External Video Output

Hi,
I'm having trouble sending the image from Color to an external monitor for accurate color balancing. When I go to Video Output pop up menu in the set up preferences, the only option they let me click is "Disabled". It's an HD image to a Sony HDV deck which converts it down to a SD monitor, but IO can do it in Final Cut, so I'm not sure why I can't do it in Color. Any suggestions?

You'll need a third party i/o device to handle the conversion for you. If you have a MacPro, the Black Magic Intensity cards (at the low end) up to the AJA Kona series cards (at the upper end) will work. Mid way are the Matrox MXO series of external boxes - most of which will work with an expresscard34 capable laptop as well.

  • External Video Output (in 32 Gives Me Blank Window

Just Upgraded from Logic 7 on a G5 to Logic 9 running in 32 bit on a New Mac Pro. I have 2 displays attached to the mini ports and when I select external Video Output I get a blank window and the checkbox for External Video Output doesn't stay checked. Also Apple Cinema Desktop (which is what I used to select in Logic 7 and send it to the second monitor) doesn't even show up in the list.
I know there is a problem with this in 64 bit, but it should woulk fine in 32, right?

  • Poor External Video Output

I have tried several vga second monitors with my coreduo(1) 2.0ghz iMac, all of which have the same problem: the screen is very dim. So far I have tried a mitsubishi 930SB and an apple studio display 21. These displays look great on on my windows junkbox and my iBook g4 with the display hack but they look as if they are broken on my iMac. I notice the same problem under boot camp and thus I suspect the problem to be rooted in either hardware or firmware. I have been waiting for a firmware fix for this that has not yet come. Any ideas?

Do you have a calibrator or have you adjusted the display brightness. No two monitors have the same settings. Learn more at my blog. Jon

  • Video Output for Musical on new Macbook Air

Doing first production of a musical.
I'm thinking of buying Logic Pro 9 to control the output of recorded audio and video for the show (as well as to compose a few extra pieces).
The features page on the Apple site says: Logic can let you view synchronized QuickTime movies on a separate monitor using output options like Digital Cinema Desktop.
    http://www.apple.com/logicpro/top-features/
The Tech Specs page on the Apple site says: External video output via FireWire or DVCPRO HD.
    http://www.apple.com/se/logicpro/specs/
I've bought a brand spanking new Macbook Air which has a Thunderbolt and two USB ports.
Would I be able to use Logic on my Macbook Air to output my video?  (I was thinking I would do it to a projector either through WiFi or a (yellow) composite cable.)
(The alternative I was thinking of was to use MuseScore to enter the notation for the extra pieces.  Garageband for the audio output (it's missing a few instruments [e.g. clarinet, xylophone]) and plain old Quicktime for the video output.
    Thanks!

  • What do you need to get video output to external monitor

    Hello,
I'm fairly new to Color and have read a few posts that color can't be viewed by firewire to an external monitor. Basically what I have right now for external viewing in FCP is a JVC SR-VS30 Mini DV NTSC deck with firewire connected to my computer. From the deck it goes to a small TV set and a Sony Trinitron PVM color video monitor. What do I need extra to be able to see my color correction in Color on an external monitor. BTW in Color currently the Video Output tab in Setup>User Prefs is grayed out showing Disabled. I suppose that when I get whatever I need to see Color on an external monitor that this tab would NOT be grayed out or would I have to set some other settings.
    Thanks.

Well, you can waste a lot of time and money trying to get your old iron up to speed but the sad fact is, even though it may work with Color, it will most likely end in a less than satisfactory experience all around. You need to determine if your G5 has PCI, PCI-x or PCIe slots and then purchase the appropriate cards.
However, Final Cut Studio 2 is optimized for the Intel processors. You will see users here and there using the newest models G5 with great success but quite honestly, you need a Mac Pro.
Or just purchase the Aja IO/HD which is a firewire 800 interface and the only firewire device that will preview externally Color.

  • External Video: Is dual output possible?

    Hi,
Does anyone know if there's a way to get Final Cut to send external video to more than one source at a time? Like, for example, through the Digital Cinema Desktop Preview & a Blackmagic card at once.
Sorry for the odd question, it's a suite setup my boss is working on. I'd be very grateful for a yay or a nay.

You can't do DCP and output to a capture card at the same time. You have to choose one or the other. BUT, the capture card can send the signal to more than one device...so SDI to one, Composite to another, HDMI to another...

  • External monitor: problem to enable video output

    Hello,
I try to use an external monitor.
I usually use it by a camcorder and a Firewire PAL in FCP without any problem.
In Color, if I go in User preferences, Video output is set on disabled and the others (for example Digital Cinema preview or Firewire Pal) are all gray and I cannot set them.
    Thank you for your help.

    Luca,
Please refer to the included documentation. Color does not and will not send external video through firewire to any device, save one, and that is the Aja IO HD and then that device is limited to standard definition video only.
This "issue" has also been well covered in this and other forums: you need an input/output card manufactured by [Aja|http://www.aja.com/html/products_macintosh.html] or by [Blackmagic Designs|http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products>.

  • Cannot find my Satellite L350-10H - external video full HD output

    Hello Everybody.
I have a problem with my satellite L350-10H when I try to attach a second external monitor in full HD.
In fact Im only able to duplicate my Notebook Display with the same resolution (1440 x 900).
The System don't allow me to set a Full HD Resolution for my Samsung External Monitor.
I don't think can be a limitation of the Chipset because I can do that with all my oldest notebook I have at Home.
Now the strange thing is that when I try to search for a driver in the Toshiba website, my model just don't exist !!!
I put the serial number and the website don't recognize the model, then in the list this model don't exist.
It is: *TOSHIBA SATELLITE L350-10H* - OS WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM
Someone have also this model? How I can attach a full hd monitor?

    Hi
First of all, if you would take a look on the Toshiab European driver page, then you will notice that the driver search form does not contain any sub model numbers but series numbers this means you have to check the model number and then could find the right drivers.
As far as I know the notebook Sat L350-10H belongs to PSLD0E series.
You can find the drivers for this notebook if you would choose L350 PSLD0E.
    Easy. Isnt it?
    Now back to your video output;
As far as I know there is a Mobile Intel GL960 Express Chipset.
Ive got the same chipset and I can use the external monitor perfectly.
But I have installed the Intel graphic card driver in fact the preinstalled driver on my notebook didnt contain some resolutions
Therefore I recommend checking the Intel page and to download and install the driver for Mobile Intel GL960 chipset.
After new reboot you should check if you could choose the resolution.

  • Video Output to NTSC monitor

I recently got new furniture, so of course, I unhooked everything and moved it around, and now, for some reason, I can't see video on my NTSC monitor. I know everything is hooked up correctly because I can log and capture and see video on the monitor; the video captures correctly with audio and everything. But when watching video in the timeline, there's nothing happening on the monitor. Any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone else?
I have switched out firewire cables, rebooted the computer, etc. I'm so confused!

    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • Timeline and External Video issues

Have an issue with output. My external video is not showing up to play from the timeline. I am getting neither audio or video. Have checked all firewire ports, used 2 different monitors, 2 different decks, 2 different firewire cable and even tried it without the external hard drive. It shows in the view menu that all frames are checked and the output is set to the correct monitor. Refreshing the external devices does not work either. Ran FCP Rescue. Still did not fix the problem. The Canvas window is sized to fit in the window. Capturing video and audio works great. Just output and monitoring it while editing. Can I get an answer. It is the latest FCP, 6.0.2. Is this a problem with the new quicktime 7.3.1?
This is an emergency. Any help would be appreciated.

You can't monitor SD without a 3rd party card.
Perhaps you mean the material is DV?
You don't send DV material directly to a monitor - you send it out via firewire to some sort of DV/analog conversion then to a monitor.
Perhaps your post was not clear?

  • Linking to external video in Captivate 7

I develop video-based training. Each slide includes mostly video. I've been successfully embedding f4v videos into Captivate projects for some time but video quality and file size issues make it necessary to begin linking to videos on external servers.
I've tried a number of options without success.
I create a video event, choose the url option, and add the url from the uploaded video. The only usable server choice is the Adobe Media Streaming Service. I've tested the videos on different servers including Amazon since the troubleshooting advice alerted me that only Adobe partners servers will be recognized. The project previews and the progress bar moves as if the video is playing but only the background file is visible. I tried all the preview options - no luck.
I decided to try the YouTube widget. I uploaded test videos to YouTube, inserted the Interaction widget and added the url, etc. This option results in a successful preview only when I choose the html 5 output in web browser option. Captivate will successfully publish the project but I get "Java Script Error unable to acquire LMS, API content, may not play properly" messages.
The published file performs like all of the unsuccessful previews. The file loads and acts as if the videos are playing in that the progress bar moves but there is no video, just the slide background image. I tried different output settings like just SWF, just html5, both SWF and html5, different versions of the flash player, etc. I also added the output folder to the Flash Global Security settings in case it was a permissions issue.
I'm working on a mac so I emailed a zipped file to my PC and tried to open in Internet Explorer to see if the file might play on a different system or browser - same outcome - no luck.
Making external video work is critical to my work and use of Captivate so I'm hoping there's something I'm missing or misunderstanding about what I need to do.
Any help or advice will be appreciated.

I'm continuing to have problems with the YouTube widget. My client sent me YouTube links and when I copied and pasted the new links into the Captivate file and the published and uploaded the file, the links didn't work.
To review, I uploaded video files to YouTube and used the interactions widget to insert the linked videos. The videos which I uploaded can be previewed in html5 in web browser but not in any other way. When I publish this file and view the file on my system on my browser (Safari) the file opens but the videos do not play. However, when I upload to my ftp site and open the file from there, the linked YouTube videos play.
So this led me to believe that I have a file that will work at least in html5 output. But when I replace the original YouTube links that I uploaded with new links provided by my client the videos preview in html5 in web browser mode but do not play on my system or when uploaded to my ftp site. All of the videos (mine and my clients) play in YouTube and preview in html5 mode.
Additionally, when I ouput the html5 file, the quiz doesn't work properly. The radio buttons don't appear on screen so when answers are selected the user has no way of knowing their selections have been accepted. Oddly, the quiz is registering answers since when you submit there is a brief flash during which you can see the buttons but they quickly disappear and results are tallied accurately at the end. But the quiz is unusable without user feedback for selections. You can view this performance beginning on the sixth slide (the beginning of the quiz).

Are html5 output files compatible with Learning Management Systems? Is there a way to use the YouTube widget in SWF output files?

  • HD video output on TiBook?

Is there any way to get my TiBook 400 MHz (15 inch) to output at HD resolutions? I just bought a new 1080p HDTV, and I can output using S-video to the TV', but then the resolution on the big screen TV looks crappy.
My TiBook also has a VGA port, and I've output to projectors to give presentations many times. . . but there is not VGA input on my HDTV. . . only composite video (ie: non-HD), S-video (same), component (HD), or HDMI.
Is there such a thing as a VGA to HDMI (or component) adapter? And, if I were to use it, would my I be able to get High-def resolutions on my HDTV from my TiBook?
    Thanks.

Hi, dgalvan. No, your old Powerbook doesn't have any digital video output capability, and its 8MB of VRAM can't support 24-bit color at any resolution higher than 1280 x 960 on an external monitor or TV, regardless of how it's connected.
EDIT: However, you do have one of the only PB G4 models whose video can be upgraded with a CardBus add-on. For somewhat more than your Powerbook is worth, you can add a DVI port to it and increase its maximum output resolution to the HD level. I can't help you with any of the details or side issues (notably how to get audio to the TV) because I don't know diddly about HDTV.

  • Satellite P300-13J - S-Video output shows no picture

    Hi,
I need a little help here.
I have P300D-13J and I bought it with OS Vista HP 32-bit. I have tested S-Video output few times after time I bought my computer and it worked fine,no problems.
    But,after a few months I needed S-Video output and I connected cable like any other time I did that(same cable,same TV),and it didn't worked!
I thought it was some software problem, and in that time my copy of Windows 7 HP came. I've installed Windows 7 HP 32-bit on my computer and everything is working super, but I still have the same problem with S-Video output. I need to say that with instalation of W7, I installed all newest drivers from Toshiba web page.
When I try to move screen on TV, I use FN+F5,and it has a button called TV. But if i chose TV,my FN shortcut key blocks and nothing happens.
When I go to Display Settings and connect TV on S-Video,I have second monitor (No.2) and it is called Non PnP Generic Monitor or something like that. I can not change any settings on that monitor, not even a resolution.
So,does anyone has this kind of problems or solution for this?

    Hey Stevan,
I had the same issue that I couldnt see a picture on my external monitor that was connected via S-Video cable. The solution for this problem was very easy: I had to change the TV-standard from NTSC to PAL!
Of course its depending on your country where you life but you can find this option in display driver options.
    Check this!!!

Concerning: VGA monitors using an Aluminum Powerbook G4 PowerPC 2004 15"-screen 1.5Ghz
The DVI (converted to VGA) video output stopped working on this computer after 9 years of service. This raises question 1:
Is there any way of fixing this? I've tried the usual: triple checked all vga cables & devices through trial & error. Bought a new DVI-VGA adapter. Reset PRAM, PMU, etc. Nothing works. Something is probably damaged, because my KVM switch was not working unless I hot-reseated the vga cable into it, leading to this DVI port, and that is pretty rough stuff.
    Question 2 (related):
This dovetails into this: Can I drive a VGA monitor with the s-video output port on this computer. It would take an s-video (male)-to-15-pin-VGA adapter. Has anyone does this? So far, I haven't even found the adapter mentioned anywhere.
    Thanks for reading this.
    el7

Thanks for the useful feedback, Knucklesmac. I agree. I must have blown something on the logic board -- because I had a faulty old KVM switch that would not switch between computers without some nasty hot-plugging/unplugging the VGA video cables. (wince!). It's like when Dizzy Dean ruined his arm because a line drive hit him in the foot and he readjusted his mechanics around the injury. I take the blame because this has been a great computer, and does not deserve any blame.
If it will help anyone else reading this thread, C2G (née Cables to Go) has some interesting ideas for still getting external video out of this computer:
    -USB-to-VGA
    http://www.cablestogo.com/product/30545
-Convert s-video or composite video signals to high resolution VGA
    http://www.cablestogo.com/product/40971
The price range is $75-$85, which doesn't make horse sense to me for such an old computer -- which has a lot of life in it anyway, because its own 15" monitor is not chopped liver.

  • Problem With External Video

I am currently running Final Cut Pro 5.1.2 on OS X 10.4.8. I am having some serious issues trying to get Final Cut to display the timelines video out to my TV. I have my Canon GL2 connected via FireWire, and set it up so the DV input plays as the audio/video. It then goes out to the TV via some standard RCA jacks. I have done this before, no problem.
    The settings are as follows:
    External Video: All Frames
Video Playback: Apple FireWire NTSC (720x480)
    Audio Playback: Audio Follows Video
Sequence Preset: DV NTSC 48 kHz
Capture Preset: DV NTSC 48 kHz
Device Control Preset: FireWire NTSC Basic
If I turn the camera off, the output shows it as 'missing'. I can import using the camera so I know its connected correctly with the FireWire. I can see playback on the TV if I watch the tape, so I know that too is connected correctly.

Its funny you should reply, I was just looking through my posts, and was reading a response you left months ago when I asked a question, then I came back to this post and there you were again! Thanks, I fiddled with the camera for a bit and finally did something to get it to show up. Marked as solved.
