Extra Channels - constant "You have lost connectio...

The Extra Channels are now driving me and my Mrs (her more than me) mad. From getting a very rare and occasional "you have lost connection" message and frozen screen, I am now getting this error cropping up almost every 10 minutes.
My setup (now) is:
Infinity 2, 76 down, 17 up. Has been like this and 100% stable since installation in March.
Vision box connected by long ethernet cable (about 20m) to port 1 on the HH3
8-port Gigabit Switch connected to port 4 on the HH3
Wifi not enabled on HH3 - using Apple Airport Extreme/Time Capsule to use 5Ghz
TV/DVD in lounge and TV/WD box in bedroom connected to the Gigabit switch via Netgear Powerline
I originally had my Vision+ box connected to the switch via Powerline, but about 3 weeks ago (when this issue really raised its ugly head) my vision+ box threw up a message saying it was no longer connected to the internet, check connections, blah blah. Checking on the HH3 showed that the box indeed wasn't connected. Power cycling the box, HH3 and the Powerlines wouldn't remedy the situation, even though everything else was working 100% - TV would connect and stream Netflix, BBC iPlayer etc. So in desperation, I laid in a 20m ethernet from the Vision+ to the HH3. Initially, it still wouldn't connect, but after another couple of HH3 and Vision+ reboots, it connected and all was well - well, sort of.
From that point on, the "You've lost connection to this channel (VMC011) errors have been getting worse, until yesterday, you could barely watch a programme without the damned thing dropping out.
So, contacted Vision+ support in India - do all the usual stuff off his script, but it still hasn't resolved, so he said he'd escallate to 2nd line and they'd phone me today. No call (real surprise there).
So, call back, again have to do all the usual - power off the VDSL modem, HH3, Vision+, back on etc. He then claimed he'd 'reset' the service from his end and 99.9% sure that would 'cure' the problem. Well, guess what - it hasn't.
Since my call to India at 2pm, I have had disconnections at 14:26, 14:51, 15:16, 15:34 and now just at 16:06.
No amount of 'force resync' gets it working, nor does changing channel. The only thing I can do is to wait for the stream to restart, and it usually does with lots of pixellated/garbage picture for about 10 seconds or so before it clears and is watchable again. This 'outage' lasts between 2 minutes and 8 minutes.
Whilst this is happening, there is no continual stream of data on the LAN1 led on the VDSL modem - just the occasional short burst of data, which is coming from the Vision+ box as if I unplug it from port 1, this 'polling' stops.
This is going to be a nightmare once the sport starts - but I'm now getting aggro from my Mrs (who is recovering from Cancer treatment so tends to watch quite a bit of 'her' telly) as she quite rightly feels we are paying for a service we are barely getting. Because of the long and unweildy cable, I'm stumping up £120 or whatever to have my master socket/VDSL modem/HH3 moved adjacent to the TV as this was initially suggested as a fix, and BT are coming out Monday (supposedly) to do this work. But I can't believe this will effect a cure as I can happily watch Netflix or iPlayer without any issues whilst the Vision+ box is dropping it's stream.
I cannot believe this is the 'standard' of service that most subscribers are getting - and I believe this is an exchange or equipment issue, but all India seem capable of doing is reading dummy instructions from their script and 'resetting' the service (whatever that means) - it needs an engineer in the exchange with a data monitor to see what is going on.
Problem as I see it is that on our FTTC cab, there are not many subscribers (yet - I was No. 2 and an Openreach engineer was No. 1) and from what I understand, no other Vision+ subscribers, though that will probably change when Sport is activated. So because of this I doubt that BT are getting any other complaints.
The cynic in me thinks that the new HH4 is being released to cater for all the 'new' BT Sport subscribers as there is an issue with the HH3. Wonder if the HH3 is just not up to handling the multicast stream properly?
Anyone got any sure fire methods of escallating this?

  • You have lost me as firefox user. I do not want private browsing and cannot disable it so I am out of here and back to IE!

I am opposed to having private browsing as a feature that I cannot disable. In IE I can and have disabled that feature so it is not an option, but with both FireFox and Chrome I am not able to disable. So you have lost me as a client and anyone I talk with will receive my views on this.

How can you find your IPAD serial number through your itunes account if you have lost your IPAD

If you registered it to your account then it should be on your support profile : https://supportprofile.apple.com/
Or if you have a backup of it on your computer's iTunes then go into Edit > Preferences (iTunes > Preferences on a Mac), and on the Devices tab hover your mouse pointer over the iPad's backup :

  • WAKE UP APPLE; YOU HAVE LOST THE PLOT!

Wake up Apple...you have lost the plot!
Obviously Apple does not currently use or test their products properly.
    1) Why would you redesign the iPhone and put the headphone jack on the bottom of the phone; where you hold the phone to use the home button. Really annoying.
    2) iTunes is now almost unususable; It takes forever to load and often freezes. Either it is poorly coded or they are doing some untowards stuff in the background that interupts/delays the programme from loading properly. Truely crap.....
    3) The redesigned iTunes interface is very confusing and not intuitive. I have figured out how to use, but it wasn't easy and I'm a professional web user experience strategist.
    4) The redesigned iTunes is missing some important functionality, i.e., the ability to see song totals and selected songs total weight/size. This makes it difficult to manage a large music collection.
5). Poor navigation functionality in the new iTunes; when you click 'see all' in any section, click on an album or song and then try to go back, you are sent to the category home page and not the 'see all' page. Frustrating....
    6) iPhone 5 68G phone can not be fully loaded without the music player breaking (previously posted with may similar complaints).
    7) I have all kinds of problems with the iPad 1 connecting properly to the new iTunes; iTunes continually tries to replicate files that I deleted directly from the iPad.
I suspect Apple is no longer driven by quality, but by release dates (the crap IOS maps programme is another example). I suspect they will continue to miss their financial targest until they WAKE UP!

I love the new version of Grid view but some of the other changes feel like they still need some fine tuning. And I miss cover flow even if I didn't use it that often...
You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
Ctrl-B to turn on the menu bar.
Ctrl-S to turn on the sidebar.
Ctrl-/ to turn on the status bar.
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour.
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide previous purchases that you've deleted from your library. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may, perhaps, let iTunes start-up more quickly).
If you want to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and suppporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.

  • Lenovo S405 How To: Re-Install Windows 8 if you have lost your recovery partition

To help some people out... I read some of you formatted your drive and now are stuck without the ability to restore Win 8 if you went to Win 7 before you knew there was an issue, or lost your recovery partition for any other reason. FYI, if you can get your hands on ANY Win 8 disk (doesn't matter if its Professional or the Regular version) and install it, your serial key for Win 8 is hardcoded into your motherboard BIOS. Therefore, if you have access to a disk, you can simply install and it will auto activate and install your pre installed key. No need to spend $90 or more if you don't have to.
If you don't have an external DVD Drive, simply download the Win7 to USB tool from Microsoft (it will work for Win 8) and transfer the disk image to a USB thumb drive (from another PC of course). Then boot from the thumb drive to install. Note: You will have to go into the BIOS to turn OFF UEFI and allow it to boot and install from a thumb drive.
In my experience, I had to turn off UEFI in the BIOS (Get to BIOS by pressing F2 at boot). By turn off, I mean place in "Legacy" mode. Then save and exit and allow to restart. Upon restart, enter the BIOS once again and you should now see your thumb drive appear on the list of bootable devices (the thumb drive has to be connected BEFORE booting into BIOS). Move the thumb drive up the list to be the first boot device, save and exit and you are in business.
Also, if you have access to the MSDN, you can actually download the RTM version of Win 8 which once its installed will auto activate and install using your hard coded serial making it a legit, normal copy.
I tried to write this as more of an overview and less of a "hand-holding" article for the purpose of quick reference. Any questions, please post. I will not provide links to any software mentioned in this article. Search engines are your friend.

After changing from UEFI to Legacy mode the function keys (F2 or Fn + F2) are not working anymore. I can't access the BIOS anymore and boot from the USB. Any idea? Thanks
All Ok now. Please ignore my previous comment

Well iv read these forums for years sat back a tried to decipher the good from the bad to the bias peoples posts and to be truthful this belle update sounds pretty grim from the more techy types to the need for biz types of user to the general type user like my self who just wants a GOOD high end phone.
Im running Anna on my N8 00  and its fine stable does what it says on the tin. So how come some geeks from nokia can come along with all the hype an try well it seems sucessfully distroy Anna with this bug laden OS Belle and still be employed.its beyond words Nokia.
Many want a return to Anna but there is no way back (there is if you google to the right sites ) thats not the issue of my post
The issue is .............. • How do you do a reset if you have lost the system password?

I have lost the password for logging in the ipad. How can I reset it?

If You Are Locked Out Or Have Forgotten Your Passcode
iTunes 10 for Mac- Update and restore software on iPod, iPhone, or iPad
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
    iOS- Understanding passcodes
If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup.
If you can not restore your device then you will need to go to recovery mode.
Placing your device into recovery mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
         1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end
of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
         2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the
red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake
and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake
              and Home buttons.
         3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device.
The device should turn on. Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device
charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then
             start with step 2 again.
         4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
         5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
         6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • Constant "you have changed the settings for the iphone" in iTunes

On my iPhone 4, I can sync my phone with no issues, and when the sync is done and I switch over to the iTunes store or my library, it always pops up with "You have changed the settings for the iphone "my iPhone". Would you like to apply these settings?"
I can hit apply, go to something different, come back, do nothing but sync my phone again, and as soon as I switch back to something else, I get the message again...
I didn't change anything, but it keeps saying I have?

    Wow...
    That is pretty bad...
From what I've gathered. There has been an increasing number of issues ever since iTunes 9 and more problems with iOS4 for the non iPhone 4 users.
It's such a shame because I used to actually comment on how iTunes worked seamlessly and so quickly. This actually feels as if I'm running a typical bloated windows software now. [And to my great surprise, an equal number of people using iTunes on MacOS have given the same kind of feedback. I originally thought it was restricted to just windows users.]

i just needed to take out steam
and if you erase this post, it will only get me more angry and more dissapointed from you.

    Letterbomb,
I see no reason to delete your post. You are not using curse words and are simply expressing your frustrations with the problems you have had. I'm sorry that you have not had a good experience with the RMA process. My suggestion would be to go ahead and contact support. I do not have access to the RMA records in your region, so I cannot look at your details directly, but let them know the situation and ask if there is anything they can do to get it taken care of more quickly. Make sure they know that this occured straight from the box and I would ask that the replacement be tested before shipping.

    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have to iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.

  • What do you do when you have lost your iPod and  it hasn't been charge

    what do  you do

If your iPod is without a charge / offline, then there is only one thing you can do... Go looking for it like it was a lost wallet or set of keys. If you think there is a possibility it could be stolen or may be stolen you should contact the police, report it stolen, and disconnect from this iPod, change all passwords, account information associated with this iPod, to prevent a thief from accessing your accounts and computer, etc. Good luck, Cheers.

My partner was trying to sync my phone to iTunes on our mac but instead restored all his phone details to my phone. It appears that I have lost everything. I have no backup. How can I restore my iPhone.

hmm thats kinda odd! how he managed to do that i dont know I thought the backups were locked per phone or phonenubmers serial.  Anyhow IF you have no backup at all then you have lost everything.  There is software out there that can recover data on the phone that was deleted..  I would personally click restore on Itunes and restart over.  You cant get back what you lost that easy and software that does recover deleted data may not allways work 100% and costs money for the software..
    Lesson learned huh..

My apps and notes are still there though.
please can anyone help me to recover my lost photos?
    Thanks

    Hey
To answer your question, a restore deletes everything of your iphone/ipod/ipad. Unless you have your photos on your comupter or a memory stick then sorry but you have lost them. Make sure that you back up ur iphone in the future regularly so that you dont lose ur stuff.
    Hope it helps Peter
