Extra tab opening in Browser

I have an image with a rectangle map area and when clicked, I'm wanting a new window showing the html page for that link. For some reason, it is not only opening the html page but also a new tab in my browser. I have tried it in both Safari and Firefox with the same results. How do I get the tab to stop opening? Here is the code to one of the links:
<p><img src="http://www.renegadescookingteam.com/images/2010_2011.gif" alt="2010 and 2011 image" width="150" height="25" border="0" usemap="#Map" />
      <map name="Map" id="Map">
        <area shape="rect" coords="18,7,52,17" href="javascript:()" target="_blank" alt="2010 image hotspot" onclick="MM_openBrWindow('http://www.renegadescookingteam.com/2010.html','2010 Underwriters','width=620,height=700')" />
        <area shape="rect" coords="94,6,127,18" href="javascript:()" target="_blank" alt="2011 image hotspot" onclick="MM_openBrWindow('http://www.renegadescookingteam.com/2011.html','201 1Underwriters','width=620,height=700')" />
      </map>
    </p>
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

On all your image map tags, remove this:
href = "javascript:()"
Your javascript definition already defines what to open and where to open (new window in your case - modern browsers consider it as tabs, depending on user preferences). The href tag is redundant here.
But, this will also remove 'hand' cursor.
To add the hand cursor, add this to your sponsors.html file under #sidebar1 (line 31):
cursor: pointer;
Your issue should get resolved.

  • Constantly New Tabs Opening While Browsing

    I use both safari and chrome for browsing in my macbook air, ever since i updated it to OS X Yosemite version 10.10.2 i am experiencing irritating problems while browsing in either of the browsers. Constantly a new tab opens with a new website while clicking on any links on the existing web page. Just dont understand what to do, thought the new software update would resolve the problem but it still remains the same. Please Help

    Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

  • Extra Tab opening by itself with spam not requested

    Every other time (or so) that I open Firefox, it shows my home page, then spontaneously, another tab opens with some type of spam....... you know, you have won this prize or "there is a problem with your registry"

    Sometimes it happens when I open Firefox. Sometimes I have a session going and open an other tab and then it spontaneously opens the spam tab (don't know what else to call it).
    It NEVER happens when I open MSIE.

    Sounds like Malware on your PC.

  • Re: Endless amount of tabs open up & browser freezes

    Posted this earlier in wrong category.
    Bought my 1st Mac a month ago: MacBook. Today I clicked on an email link at tumblr.com (reputable site) and multiple tabs began opening with an "untitled" label. Couldn't close them because Firefox froze. Happened again when I clicked on a reply to email on Craigslist. Searched the Internet for answers. Came across this description from someone with a PC: "I will be browsing the Internet with Windows Internet Explorer and ever so often an endless amount of tabs start opening up, one after another. I then have make an attempt to open Windows Task Manager and click on End Task. Whilst attempting to do this, I lose count of how many times my computer freezes." Is this a virus? Thought Macs didn't get viruses. What do I do now?

    Hi guideblue,
    It sounds to me like your version of Firefox is having some issues. The first things I'd try are the troubleshooting suggestions offered [here|http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode], especially the instructions for starting in Safe Mode. If one of your add-ons or preferences is causing a problem, for example, this will help you diagnose it.
    The next step I'd follow is to uninstall the program and reinstall it.
    Hope that helps!

  • Why is there always an extra tab in Firefox? Even if I try to close it, it reopen automaticly. Please help!

    No matter what, whenever I open Firefox, an extra tab opens up. I've tried countless times to close it but it always reopens! It is very annoying. The tab is always google.com. I've tried everything, please help!!

    You may have set the home page to a website that opens in the sidebar or have set multiple home pages.
    Opening in the sidebar is the default for bookmarks that are created via a link or button on a website.<br />
    You can check the Properties of a bookmark via the right-click context menu in the sidebar (Ctrl+B; Cmd+B on Mac).<br />
    In the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) you can click the More button in the Details pane at the bottom right.<br />
    Make sure that "Load this bookmark in the sidebar" is not selected.<br />

  • When I open the browser I get a extra tab besides my home page that opens. I only want my home page to open.

    When I open the browser I get a extra tab besides my home page that opens. I only want my home page to open.

    Extra pages can be a sign that a bad add-on has crept into your Firefox. For example, an Astromenda infection.
    cor-el pointed you toward Firefox's Add-ons page, and I suggest also checking here:
    Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
    For further cleaning, try the '''scanning/cleaning tools''' listed in our support article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]]. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.

    Did you perform the fixes from the "Preferences not saved" article?
    Try to delete or rename/move the prefs.js file and other possible prefs-##.js with a number and user.js files in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
    *Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
    Make sure that Firefox isn't running when you delete files in the profile folder.

  • LSOpenURLsWithRole launches browser with an extra tab

    I'm opening a specific browser (Chrome, Firefox etc.) with a specific URL by
    using this code:
    LSApplicationParameters parms = {0, kLSLaunchDefaults, &ref, NULL, NULL, argsArray, NULL};
    LSOpenURLsWithRole(urlArray, kLSRolesAll, NULL, &parms, NULL, 0);
    The urlArray is holding only one URL, and argsArray is empty most of the time
    (unless a special browser flag is used).
    Everything is working, the right browser is opened with the right URL.
    The problem is that in Chrome & Firefox browsers, I keep getting an extra tab.
    That means I have a tab with the requested URL, and a tab that holds the default
    homepage of the browser.
    What's wrong with the browser launching code?

    How many pages do you have set as your "homepage"? <br />
    Firefox allows for multiple homepages in separate tabs, separated by the pipe | symbol.
    Try resetting your homepage. <br />

  • Why does the Welcome to firefox tab open with my google tab every time I open the browser? And why can't the browser hold any add-ons I downloaded? I loose then when I close the browser, even tool bars have to be reinstalled every time I open the browser

    Every time I open the browser the Welcome to Firefox tab is the first tab, then a second tab opens and thats my google, then a 3rd tab opens for me to reinstall my toolbar. This has been happening for a good year. Updates have not fixed it. Others have this problem. I did a search for an answer, the question is out there but no answer. Now if I go into add ons and add a background Theme or an extension it all is gone when I exit the browser. When I open the browser again I get all 3 tabs and have to install my toolbar again. I DO NOT want to reinstall as I will loose all my saved data, passwords, bookmarks, everything! I have had this computer for a year, Windows Vista x64 bit. Its not the computer, it's the browser. If you have specific questions e-mail me and I will be more then happy to help

  • When I try to open a Hyperlink in Excel, the Firefox pop up the page I request with an extra tab of error message. How to fix it?

    Hey guys. The problem actually bothers me for a while.
    If I input a URL in an (microsoft) Excel Cell then turn it into a hyperlink, when I click on it. The Firfox, which is my default net browser will pop up and show the page I request. But there always has an extra tabs show some other things. Here is a sample:
    The url I request is: http://privacy.microsoft.com/zh-cn/default.mspx
    OK, the page is showed up and an extra tab's url is:
    http://privacy.microsoft.com/zh-cn/default.mspxFirefoxHTML%5CShell%5COpen%5CCommand
    the later part: 【FirefoxHTML%5CShell%5COpen%5CCommand】 is automatally added behind the url I request. And the correspond page reads: The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
    how to fix this problem? and many thanks.:)

    Can you post the original link you have in Excel. We need to see what the
    full link looks like.

  • I had about 17 tabs open on my browser. I clicked a link to open another one and when the tab opened the other tabs disappeared. What happened here?

    I had 17 tabs open. When I clicked a link to open a new tab all the other tabs disappeared. I thought a new window had been opened instead, but this is not the case there is only one window open on my mozilla browser. If I try to close the window I get a message that says there are 26 tabs opened, I opened 9 more tabs. Can anybody tell me what is going on here or how I might figure this out?
    Also, when I close a tab and try to reopen the tab using the right click menu, the 'undo closed tab' menu is disabled. What happened here? Can anybody tell me how to re-enable it?

    I've seen some occasional glitches with windows losing the toolbar area, but not one that disturbing.
    If you click and drag down on the 18th tab enough to tear it off into a new window (and possibly the same for the other newer tabs you opened), can you get the 17 tabs to re-appear in the first window? If not, I'm not sure there is a way to mend the window. If it's NOT a private browsing session, you might have to use Firefox > Exit (or File > Exit) and restore your session to get a working window. That won't work with a private window...
    As a backstop, you might also right-click a tab in the window > Bookmark All Tabs before ending your session. (Because session cookies and other transient data are not preserved when you reload bookmarks, this isn't as effective as restoring a session. On the other hand, bookmark storage is less fragile than session data storage.)
    Regarding Undo Close Tab, are the closed tabs listed on the History menu under Recently Closed Tabs? If so, that context menu item definitely should be enabled.

  • With more than one tab open in private browsing, how do I leave private browsing all at once?

    Before the latest Firefox update I was able to close a private browsing session by selecting the STOP menu item and checking the appropriate selection in a pop up dialogue box. Now, when I have more than one tab open in private browsing, I can't end the session by selecting STOP. The dialogue box opens and offers a START option instead of a STOP option. The same is true using CONTROL+SHIFT+P. To work around the situation I need to close all but one tab and then stop the session. I want to go back to the way it was before the update and opt out of a private session entirely, regardless of how many windows or table are open, with the former two-step process.

    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
    *https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
    There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
    If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
    See:
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox

  • How do I keep my downloads from opening 100's of tabs in my browser?

    I tried downloading a free trial of After Effects for the second time; I then tried selecting where I wanted to send it to on my computer, then I clicked the box at the bottom. Next thing I know, it's opening a hundred tabs in my browser a second and the only way to stop it is by closing all tabs. It's the same thing when I tried downloading the free trial for Final Cut. Does anyone know of how I can stop this, so I may be able to download apps successfully?

    opening endless tabs would only cost you money if your isp charges you for the amount of data you download and each of those tabs is loading something.  adobe will charge you nothing.
    and no, the downloading stops and the tab opening stops once you close your browser.  you should be able to verify by opening your browser again (which i'm pretty sure you did in order to post here) and seeing no more problem with your tabs.
    also, that's not an adobe issue.  you have a browser issue.
    if you google, <your browser name> opens endless tabs, you should be able to find a solution to the problem, though the above link will probably circumvent the problem if you want a quick work-around.

  • Is there a way to 'Force all Links to be opened in New Tabs ' like Maxthon browser?

    Is there a way to get Firefox to 'Force all Links to be opened in New Tabs, like Maxthon browser does ? I really like this Maxthon feature but hate Maxthon as it has always has and continues to lock up all the time (what a pain!!)
    Hoping Firefox can do this. By the way I know if you right click a link and ask for it to open in a new tab it will. I want it to be automatic.
    Thank you

    Question already asked and answered.
    I gave an AppleScript and an other helper described a scheme relying upon standard features.
