Extract Devices from Ciscoworks LMS 4.2 to Nagios database

Hello everyone,
I'm working on ciscoworks LMS 4.2 and as part of a project I need to extract all of my devices to a Nagios Database.
Is it possible to do ?
If yes, can you explain me how can I do that ?
Perhaps with snmp traps, I don't know.
Thank for your consideration and your help.
Cordially.

I am not an expert in Nagios, so no idea on what options does it have to import devices.
In LMS, you have an option to export devices and its credentials list in .csv and xml format. Please check if you can use any one of those to get imported on Nagios.
Check details on how to export from user guide here :
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.2/user/guide/inventory/mng_device.html#wp1132486
Also, you can try to fetch database details from LMS using Open Database Connect. Use the following document for more details :
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.2/database_schema/dbviews_42.html#wp23144
You should check the possible option on Nagios to import devices and than ask if that is available on LMS.
-Thanks

  • Migrating from CiscoWorks LMS 3.1 to Cisco Prime LMS 4.2

    Hi Everyone
    My client was formerly having CiscoWorks LMS 3.1. Recently, they purchased Cisco Prime Infrastructure v1.2, which comes with Cisco Prime LMS 4.2. Can I migrate the database (equipment list, usernames etc.) of the CiscoWorks LMS 3.1 to Cisco Prime LMS 4.2? If yes, how do I do this? Please kindly advice.

    Thanks Marvin for your advice. Just one last question, there's a statement in the URL that you've provided
    "Ensure that the passwords, HTTPS port and SMTP server details are same in both LMS 3.2 SP1, LMS 4.0.1 or LMS 4.1 server and LMS 4.2 server with Symantec Veritas implementation, while migrating data from non-HA to HA environment."
    Does this mean my client need to purchase Symantec Veritas, as well?

  • Extract device from physical channel

    As always I want to do something absolutely trivial and am running into all sorts of issues
    I define (through a control) a physical channel that I want to take data on. I want to be able to programmatically reset the device the channel is on. i.e. i don't want someone to have to open up the code and change the device on the reset vi if necessary. Even if there is only one device physically connected, you can’t guarantee the device will be Dev1, because Labview keeps a history of devices that have been plugged in. The obvious solution – extract the device name from the physical channel control which contains the channel(s) you have selcted. Can I find a trivial way to do it, NO!  There is a property node called device but it does not (despite its name) return the device you have selected along with the physical channel.  There are convoluted ways of doing this, but i'm hoping there is some easy way. Suggestions
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I think this might be the "trivial" way you're looking for: some string pattern matching and a simple
    regular expression to extract the device name prefix from a physical channel name.

  • I have a problem to  extract data from oracle dump file (.dmp) using oracle database or any other tools.

    There is IMP utility which provides me data as graphical way. But i need extract data in such a way so that i could able to use in my application.

    Hi,
    EdStevens
    Actually I was using SQL Developer. Sorry for the wrong define question. Now the real problem is:
    I want to read or extract data in a txt file from Oracle Dump (.dmp) file without using Oracle sqlPlus or Oracle Database.
    No need to say that i am able to extract dump data using sqlPlus. But for that, there is a little burden to install oracle database
    or sql Developer.
    I also listen about Oracle Loader a little bit. Is it a tool for providing extraction of data from Oracle dump file.
    Thanks for your previous reply,
    And now waiting for your suggestion.
    thanks,
    mohan

    This isn't a SQLDeveloper question. You will get better answers in the Database - General forum.
    Oracle dump files produced by the exp or expdp utilities are inproprietary formats which can only be read by the imp or impdp utilities respectively.
    The best way to get data out of a dump file is to import it into a database and then extract it to plain text files using SQL.
    Alternatively, leave it in the database and your application can access it there.
    The exp dump file is mostly plain text, but the format is not published so you could waste a lot of time figuring it out.

  • File Format for export from Ciscoworks to ACS

    Hi,
    I want to export devices from Ciscoworks lms 3.2 to ACS 4.1 with the cli-tool
    dcrcli expAcs
    But, what is the file format I have to use
    lsattr gives me just the complete list of all cs-attributes
    thanks, William

    If you do not specify the file name,
    –In Non-ACS mode all the devices from DCR will be exported to the specified server.
    –In ACS mode, only the devices that are not configured in ACS will be exported from DCR to the specified server.
    The file format is the same as when you export the devices from DCR.  If you perform an export to a CSV for example, the tool will use that last file unless another file is specified.

  • Cannot import devices from LMS to QPM

    Hi - I hope someone can help me on this one.
    I have just installed Cisco QPM 3.2 on my network to work with my existing LMS 2.6. At the moment, I am struggling to import devices from my LMS to QPM, with error messages, "The file format is incorrect. Please select a file with the correct format". I don't know how else to deal with this. The file is successfully exported from Common Services in LMS and saved on a drive. From my QPM, I navigate to Add Devices--->Import from CSV file and browse to location where file is saved in LMS. However, it keeps giving me the same error message of incorrect file format.
    Can someone be kind enough to assist me on this?
    Find attached the error message received.
    Thank you

    Most likely this is due to the incompatibility in the respective Common Services versions of QPM 3.2 (CS 2.2?) and LMS 2.6 (CS 3.0.6?). I would make a dummy device entry in QPM 3.2, export it out to csv, then compare the QPM csv with the existing csv you have from LMS 2.6. Since your goal is to import into QPM, you'd want to edit the LMS csv (probably by deleting any "new" columns introduced in CS 3.x).

  • Need assistance in Ciscoworks LMS 3.2 for enable monitoring of cisco switches

    Hello,
    I am new to the ciscoworks LMS 3.2. I have a task to add a devices in ciscoworks and configure the SNMP on the devices and ciscoworks both. My company has bought the ciscoworks LMS3.2 in 2009 december since then one engineer has configured some devices in it but not fully. I tried to look into the guides and documentation but has huge stuff. My infrastructure lead also not familiar of ciscoworks tool. I know there is lot of documentation in it but I have very less time say this weekend I have to activate monitoring of devices in ciscoworks LMS 3.2. Can anyone please provide me the screenshots or step-by-step procedure to how to enable a device for monitoring who has prior experience on ciscoworks LMS 3.2.
    Regards,
    Ahmed

    Regarding SNMP reachabilty, you are the man........ thats true the firewall is blocking, because the subnets for the swithces which i m trying to add into the ciscoworks are not added into the firewall. Those subnets are different than the other 20 switches which are shown as reachable.
    and regarding the swithces which are already seen reachable, based on the document you have provided me for alert and monitoring of a device. I checked the DFM and configured as it is but still i didn't see any of the alert when I turned off one of the 4506E power supply. Is there something I am missing it.
    What do you need from my side to provide information or screenshot so that we can sort out the issue of monitoring of the device. Should I get an alert even if the device goes down?
    regards
    Ahmed

  • Serial Numbers with CiscoWorks LMS 3.2

    Hi all,
    Is there a way to find the Serial Numbers of all your Cisco devices using CiscoWorks LMS 3.2?
    Thanks in advance,
    Carles

    You can run a hardware report under RME > Reports > Report Generator > Inventory > Hardware Report.  However, some devices are not aware of their serial number electronically.  In these cases, you can add the serial number using the "snmp-server chassis id" command so that RME can pick it up.  You can check this link with details on how the serial number is obtained via SNMP.

  • Ciscoworks LMS RME / ASA Firewall configuration pre-shared key savings

    Does anybody know the concept about saving pre-shared by Ciscoworks LMS /RME ?
    Is there a way to get the unencrypted values from Ciscoworks LMS /RME for an ASA Firewall ?
    ASA config. saved with RME
    pre-shared-key *
    ASA config. saved to TFTP from ASA
    pre-shared-key 1ZdmaKVwEkQ66nD37d9kA9fj9z75

    If you enable "shadow directory" (RME - Admin - Config Mgmt - Archive Mgmt - Archive Settings), you can find the raw configs in locations such as /var/adm/CSCOpx/files/rme/dcma/shadow/Security_and_VPN/PRIMARY on Solaris, or its Windows equivalent, after one requisite cycle of Periodic Polling and/or Periodic Collection. That's the same config one'd get saving to TFTP manually.
    However, I don't recall how to unscramble the "asterisks" in the RME GUI, if at all possible.

  • CiscoWorks LMS problem

    We are running CISCOWORKS LMS in our Data Network,
    But right now getting below problem,
    1.    Unable to integrate Cisco-3925 integrated service router
    2.    Unable to integrate Cisco-2811 integrated service router
    3.    LMS cannot sense link status
    4.    LMS cannot auto discover link
    Attached Image for your kind reference.Appreciate your concern about this issue.

    Hi Hafiz,
    Kindly let me know how you are adding device to CiscoWorks LMS 2.6.
    As a best practise, when you will add new device to CiscoWorks, you should not select the device type while adding the device to CiscoWorks. Let the ciscoworks collect the inventorty on device and identify it automatically.
    To start with make sure you have the lastet MDF device packages install for Common Services and then install all device pachages for other components like RME, CiscoView etc but make sure to have lastest MDF install first.
    Thanks

  • Extracting date from oracle/other databases exactly to java

    Hello Friends,
    Iam creating a simple program which extracts data from any database and stores it in an XML file and also it can extract data from an XML file and updates the database.
    My program is just getting the tablename as an input and from that it builds the query (select * from tablename). Through ResultSet, Iam extracting date fields with getDate() method of ResultSet, which is yeilding converted dates [In oracle if date is 23-DEC-1980, Im getting it as 1980-12-23 in java]. Even getString() method of ResultSet doesn't work.
    I want my program to work with any database engine, which may have their own date formats. Kindly can anyone suggest me a way to extract date from any database exactly as it is to java.
    NOTE:: I can't use to_char(datefield) type commands in SQLQUERY as the only input to my program is tablename and my query is, select * from tablename.
    Regards,
    Ch.Praveen.

    HI Friends,
    Thanks for your fast replies. My program is extracting data from a database and generating an XML file for it, which is as follows.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <table tableName="EMP">
    <row>
    <column columnName="EMPNO" columnType="NUMBER">7369</column>
    <column columnName="ENAME" columnType="VARCHAR2">'SMITH'</column>
    <column columnName="JOB" columnType="VARCHAR2">'CLERK'</column>
    <column columnName="MGR" columnType="NUMBER">7902</column>
    <column columnName="HIREDATE" columnType="DATE">'1980-12-17'</column>
    <column columnName="SAL" columnType="NUMBER">800</column>
    <column columnName="COMM" columnType="NUMBER" />
    <column columnName="DEPTNO" columnType="NUMBER">20</column>
    </row>
    <row>
    <column columnName="EMPNO" columnType="NUMBER">7499</column>
    <column columnName="ENAME" columnType="VARCHAR2">'ALLEN'</column>
    <column columnName="JOB" columnType="VARCHAR2">'SALESMAN'</column>
    <column columnName="MGR" columnType="NUMBER">7698</column>
    <column columnName="HIREDATE" columnType="DATE">'1981-02-20'</column>
    <column columnName="SAL" columnType="NUMBER">1600</column>
    <column columnName="COMM" columnType="NUMBER">300</column>
    <column columnName="DEPTNO" columnType="NUMBER">30</column>
    </row>
    </table>
    Here you can observe that HIREDATE column is having date in different format than in oracle. We are getting an error while we are extracting data from an XML file and updating the database, as dateformats differ. Can anyone provide a solution, which extracts date from database to java exactly as per the dateformat in database.

  • Custom device prompt in Ciscoworks LMS

    Hello,
    In emerging network infrastructure of our client we decided to use some custom promps at device VTY (SSH and Telnet). Console users are network authenticated by means of ACS, and in case ACS is not reachable, we decided to use login prompts as follows:
    Username(local):
    Password(local):
    In this local mode, when CiscoWorks LMS (3.1) tries to collect configuration of switches, VLAN configuration exactly, we got such error messages in LMS interface:
    TELNET: Failed to establish TELNET  connection to 10.52.0.1 - Cause: Authentication failed on device 3 times. VLAN  Config fetch is not supported using TFTP. Command failed VLAN Config fetch is  not supported using RCP.
    Of course, we have checked the possibility to got from LMS host to these devices by SSH and Telnet, credentials are correct, only login prompts are as described earlier.
    I conclude, we need to tell LMS to accept our custom prompts. Is there any possibility and how to achieve this?

    If you're sure the failure is due to the custom prompt, yes, you can simply follow the steps in the following document to let LMS know about that:

  • CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1 and devices other than Cisco.

    Hello.
    Can I use some CiscoWorks LMS functions like config management, topology, with devices other than Cisco?
    Thanks.
    Andrea

    No, RME, Campus and DFM are still hardcoded to restrict to cisco devices.
    HUM and IPSLA are more open.
    The functionality from the HUM will allow you to monitor availablilty, interfaces and you can add OID's yourself.
    IPSLA can use non cisco devices as a target for their tests.
    Cheers,
    Michel
