Extremely frustrated -- strange brush setting?

I just installed CS5 on my laptop and the brush tool seems to be on a strange setting. I can't figure out what it is. In CS2, my brush (say, a circle) will apply color to the exact outline of the brush. For instance, if I selected a 9px brush, I would see a 9px circle brush on my document, and when I click, it would apply a 9px dot of color.
In CS5, however, I see a much larger brush outline. If I select a 9px brush, I will see (guessing) a 20px circle which will apply a 9px dot of color. At least, this is my impression of what is happening.
I have tried:
Installing current update (original install was from a disc)
Resetting tool presets
Resetting default settings (all)
HELP!!!

Wow! I think I had this same issue just last night.
I was cleaning my macbook pro retina on the outside. Then I opened it up and was wiping dust off the monitor and I can't pinpoint exactly when, but the colors changed suddenly. It looked super strange, it was like green halo's and it looked worse when looking at it at an angle. Of course I took no pictures!!! I was freaking out that my 2 grand laptop was busted and I somehow removed a protective film or something.
But I digress... The image looked very green and spacey, it was almost a neat effect. After about 5 minutes it started to look a little more digital though. There were straight lines of this halo effect on the edges and top. After about 10 minutes it turned into a predominate issue with the blacks on screen. I could open a web browser and it was unnoticable on a white background. After about 15 minutes, you could only barely see the green cloud effect if you looked at the monitor from an extreme angle. After about 20 minutes, it was completely back to normal, I almost feel paranoid like I see a halo or something strange. But I believe that might be all in my head now.
So yerp, lemme know what you guys figure out.

When I first start (quick) brushing on top right, the strokes appear at bottom right.... No shape dynamics, no scattering, just plain soft round brush in black. If I stroke slowly, the behavior is OK.
This is very frustrating and appears very often for me if stroke quickly, so I can't use smudge which is often done quickly.
Windows 7 (Simplified Chinese). Nvidia GTS 450 but OpenGL has been disabled. Graphic driver updated to latest. No brush scattering, no shape dynamics.

This subject shows up here from time to time.
Unfortunately, I don't recall reading about any specific fix that works.
Usually the advice is update video drivers, check all other software running on the system for possible interference, change wireless mouse batteries, try a wired mouse, completely remove mouse or tablet drivers and reinstall, make sure nothing is moving over an unused trackpad, etc.
Perhaps it would help if you listed your OS and what input device you're using.

The Italics font is extremely frustrating.

Hi guys.
I'm a writer, and I'm having a frustrating time with the italics command.
I don't use italics often… But when I do, I find that pressing "Command" and the letter "i" sometimes results in the spotlight menu popping up.
This is extremely irritating, because I'm usually halfway through a paragraph at this point and I'm just trying to put words down.
All of a sudden, my writing has to be interrupted and I have to turn off the spotlight menu… Sometimes it's not spotlight… but some other completely random menu or panel.
Also, I find that the italics function simply doesn't work sometimes…. Perhaps I've hit the letter "i" before "command" Perhaps I was bouncing between italics and regular font… I honestly don't know… But whatever I did, the computer is somehow confused and will not go to italics anymore unless I copy and past a section of text that has italics in it.
Although the italics is my main issue here… I've also found that pressing buttons too fast sometimes resorts in menus or panels or search bars popping up.
Again, extremely frustrating since all I want to do is get into the world I'm writing about—without having to constantly press the "X" button.
Also, while I'm on the subject….I might as well ask if anyone has some feedback about how I might be able to set up my Pages so that it is more conducive to writers.
For instance, when I want to commit myself to my writing, I try to go in "full screen" mode… But there's always this awful toolbar and sidebar that I have to hide, it's a really frustrating way to start my writing process.
Is there a way to get rid of these awful distractions… Or is there a program that someone else could recommend?

What OS are you using (update the signature/ profile info if it isn't 10.5).
The shortcuts sound odd in what app is 'cmd+i' bringing up Spotlight?
System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts covers all custom shortcuts for the OS, see if Spotlight is assigned to cmd+i
Check the 'app shortcuts' section too for any that may conflict or bring up Spotlight.
You may also want to confirm the same thing happens in another user account, make one in System Preferences > Users & groups, login as that user & see if the same issue occurs - it could be an app that is running in your account if the new user behaves differently.
Also see if you can catch the 'flash of a menu' when hitting the shortcut - it could indicate if the app is responsible for triggering Spotlight. Dig into that menu to examine it's shortcuts.
As to alternatives to Pages…
MS Word, LibreOffice, OpenOffice, AbiWord, Scrivener are 'word processors' (text with a billion other options like images, tables, organisation tools…).
WriteRoom, FocusWriter, Zen are more like 'text editors' and generally allow you to focus on typing words, some restrict how you can style text, so bear that in mind if you need styled output. Don't forget TextEdit too - simple & built in but actually quite effective.

I can still access the internet. I can still log into my iCloud. I reset my network settings and restored my iPad twice already. I tried all the stuff I could find on YouTube to include changing my DNS setting to 8.8.8.8 I don’t know why I can’t log on. I bought the iPad in Germany and it worked. When I came back to Turkey where I live it worked. I took a trip to the states in December and it worked. Now that I’m back in Turkey, I can’t even log on. For both the facetime and imessage I get a message that says “ Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again. I tried to all the help line twice and they couldn’t even help me. I just bought this in November and don’t know why it’s not working……….Help if you can. Thanks for the response.

Extreme Frustration with Blurry Text Export in CS6

Two related problems that are extremely frustrating. I'm hoping someone who has grappled with this issue in the past, will take pity on my wretched soul and help me out.
1) So I have this Premiere Pro CS6 project with a dynamically linked After Effects composition that contains a 3D Text title.
The preview of the composition looks perfect within Premiere Pro (and obviously, After Effects). Nice and crisp.
However...
When I try to a) render the sequence preview or b) export the sequence in Premiere Pro -- I can't get the text to display crisply. It's all blurry. I've tried all of the different encoders and only one of them works. The problem is that the only export setting that works creates a monster file (and a bit rate of 500,000+Kbps -- 100 times what the original video quality was):
- Format: AVI
- Video Codec: None
- Depth: 24 Bit
All of the other export settings are the same as the original media (except that the original media is quicktime format -- .mov). I've also made sure that the composition settings are correct for the media (by having dragged the media to the new composition window). I'm also not sampling up or down. It's 1280 x 720.
2) Here's the real brain scratcher, if I don't export using this very high 24 bit depth, or if I use another encoder, I get really crappy video -- beyond just the 3D text. This blows my mind, because the original footage (is only rendered at 5,000 Kbps) yet looks pristine.
I've attached a couple of images to show what I'm talking about. Anyone have any ideas?
I understand that I can expect some degradation, but come on, this is ridiculous. I've seen 3D text at 480p look better than this. What am I missing? If I were getting paid for this assignment, I'd either be fired or have to commit ritual seppuku for my shame and dishonor.

Okay, I've posted a screenshot of the export tab that I'd like to use (that doesn't work), below. It's just one of dozens of different configurations I tried, that didn't work.
This second image is a screenshot of the only export setting that I was able to get to work (which generated the ginormous file).
This third image is an export screen with the "Match Sequence Settings" checkbox selected. Thought that it might be revealing.
Steven, to answer your question -- yes, the original media is 1280 x 720, and that is also what I'm exporting. The only reason the screenshots look so small is because I cropped them. When I went to post an image on this forum, there was a message that says the maximum image width that can be posted is 405 pixels and that larger images would be scaled down. So I simply cropped the images to that size so as to provide a non-altered version. Maybe that message was just referring to the thumbnail size? I've posted larger images this time.
Sorry for the delay -- I'm still figuring out how to post the individual AE comp... Is there a preferred method?

I agree.
It was very useful to reduce everything to small and quickly scan down looking for missing artwork.
Particularly useful when I only connect to the machine with iTunes via screen sharing, so everything can be a bit slower to scroll through at times.
In fact, itunes 11 when used purely as a server for Apple TV etc is a downgrade in usability IMO, as they've got rid of some of the useful views that helped me manage my library remotely.

HT6154 My Apple account password has been reset on the count that it says it's incorrect. I just made a new one after making a previous new one, and now it says the new one is incorrect after trying to log in to download an app. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED & C

My Apple account password has been reset a couple times due to Apple telling me my passwords are incorrect. I know they aren't because I have already had to change the password three times, and I keep record of my password. Yet, it continuously tells me my password is incorrect. I have just changed it, again, and now I cannot log into the itunes store to download an app because it's telling me my new password is incorrect.
I just bought the new iphone 5s today, so does this have anything to do with it? Please help, this is extremely frustrating.

Last Resort, put the iPhone in DFU mode (Google How to do that). Connect in iTunes. Follow on-screen prompts to Restore. All Data would be lost, if not backed up earlier.
To save the photographs you may have to use third party software. Google is your friend.

I can't tell if my previous messages came thru, but I need help with PSE 7.0. I can't use my drop shadow brush set anymore.

I am not sure if any of my previous messages went thru or not, but I have Photoshop Elements 7.0. I learned how to open a blank file and use a textbox to make my watermark and also my copyright logo and save them each as a brush. They were saved in the Drop Shadow Brushes. When I used my cloning stamp yesterday, I switched brushes to basic. When I later attempted to go back into the drop shadow brush set where I had saved the watermark and copyright logo, a message came up telling me the file couldnot be opened because it wasnot compatible with this version of Photoshop. I presume it is because of the special brushes saved there. What do I do now?

For the wifi problem:
Does the iOS device connect to other networks?
Does the iOS device see the network?
Any error messages?
Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect OK before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

Plugged is very unspecific.. ethernet and USB are possible and completely and totally different.
If you need help.. we need to know what the printer is.. and using what connection.

Anyone know of a way to print out a list of brush sets like you can print out a list of fonts? I am tired of having to go and look all over the place for the brush that I need.

Ed, I do know how to use the preset manager, but I really wanted a way of looking things up on paper. I keep a manual of printed out fonts to refer to and now I have a printed out set of brushes to refer to as well.

Well, you say that nobody else hears this beep, and neither do you. It is only this one person that hears this beep on their phone. What makes you think the problem is at your end?

Custom Brush sets don't save to dropdown menu

Hey! I was wondering if someone could give me some advice on saving brush sets. I've recently upgraded from Elements 7 to PS CC and the way I saved brush sets in Elements doesn't seem to work in CC.
I can make and save a brush set fine. I save it in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC\Presets\Brushes alongside the default "Assorted Brush" and all the others, and I can load them into an existing default set.
They never appear in the dropdown menu though. I've tried saving through the preset manager and the dropdown menu and saving them over an existing brush set but it reverts to the old brush preset as soon as I changed between default sets.
On restart, they stay in the brush set if I load it before closing.
Can't get it to work no matter what I try. What am I doing wrong? :S

Ah, that makes sense, coupled with the fact that the entire menu for external Speedlite control isn't available if no flash or a non-compatible flash is attached.

Surprisingly, by following the settings you stated in the forum, we were able to duplicate the problem with our equipment too. I have submitted a notification to our engineers who will look into the matter further and hopefully a future firmware update may be released to fix the problem. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Help on finding a brush set once installed using Adobe Exchange in Photoshop

I've installed brushes before not with Adobe Exchange. I was in Photoshop and used the Extensions to download a brush set. This brush set was installed butto add it to Photoshop I can't find it. Anyone know where to gos to add thisbruh set??

Thanks for the heads up RK. I ended up removing them anyway, because they were not really up to scratch. In fact I trawled through my long list of brush sets this afternoon, and did some house cleaning. Removed all the dross, and renamed the sets with a meaningful first word or two, followed by enough info to identify the source. They now list according to rough brush set type, and I removed... [screws up face] not that many [cringes with embarrassment] but you just never know.
Interestingly, I found a couple of identical brush sets with different names. Plagiarism or innocently renamed according to source?
Speaking of embarrassment, I have more than once suggested to troubled Wacom tablet users to use the Wacom brushes to aid troubleshooting a nonresponsive pen Pressure issue. I realised after my search today, that I have been completely confusing those people, and that those brushes are named Standard. I can only hang my head in shame and put it down to a ‘can’t see wood for trees’ situation brought about by my OCD regarding brush sets. And I thought I was being so methodical!
So if you are one of those people I have confused in the past, then my humblest apologies.
OK, I think I’ll move to Elements now.
