Extremely high usage of 890L every 6 hours!

My Jetpack does either a download or uplaod (don't know which) on it's own 4 days a day, at 6 hour intervals. I have gone to the Verizon store, called customer service numerous times, talked to tech service level 1 and level 2 and NO ONE can answer my question or is willing to do what they can to fix this problem. Commomn sense tells me that no one in our house is using thier laptops at 6 hours intervals, day and night, and using huge amounts of data. Can anyone help on this? My next step is my Texas State consumer office, lawyer for class action, or both.
I have 3 laptops using the Jetpack. I have now had all 3 wiped tested, wiped clean and reloaded to make sure I had nothing on my end. Verizon will not even look at the data and tell me if it is upload or download.
Been a customer for over 10 years. Will not stay any longer after contract experies in December.

You cannot sue VZW through a class action.  You waived that right when you signed your contract.  You can only settle a dispute as an individual in small claims court.
To find out what is happening you must shutdown and isolate your computers so that only one is connected at a time.  Review the data logs that VZW can share with you and check for updates around those problem times.  Through isolation you will be able to determine which device your usage is coming from.  Once you know the device then you need to install a monitor to look at its internet activity.  That is the only way.
VZW will not disclose specific information about its users to anyone without a court order.  That includes the account owners themselves.  If you want to find out what is consuming your data then you must conduct an investigation on your own with your own devices and equipment.

  • Airport Extreme requests new IP almost every hour

I bought a new TV (Samsung)that accesses the internet. I have an airport extreme setup with a password. Almost everyday I have to tell the TV the password again. I called the TV manufacturer (Samsung) and asked what to do. They said to get a static IP address from my internet provider. I called my internet provider. They said that my router was requesting a new IP almost every hour.
Is there a way to stop the airport extreme from doing this?
My cable modem (Motorola) and airport extreme are left ON 24/7

Do you have Comcast as your ISP by any chance? I have been experiencing some problems with my AEBSn and comcast as well. I've read in some other threads that there is something about Airport wireless routers and Comcast dynamic DHCP. Comcast will tell you that it's not their problem because if you can connect to the internet by plugging your computer directly into your cable modem using an ethernet connection, then it's not the modem. Apple will tell you it's your ISP not giving your wireless router a good IP. after countless hours of being on the phone with Apple and Comcast and rebooting my modem and AEBSn several different times and ways, someone at Comcast FINALLY told me to do something that worked. Here's what I did. Maybe it'll work for you:
With my computer on, the AEBSn on, and the cable modem on, First, Unplug your cable modem. Wait 10 seconds and then plug it back in and wait for the lights to come back on (not sure what kind of modem you have, but there will be a couple of lights that should come on and be steady and at least one light that will come on and flicker a bit).
Next, unplug your AEBS and leave it unplugged,
    Next, restart your computer.
Next, plug the AEBS back in WHILE your computer is starting up. Don't wait for it to completely start up. (I plugged mine back in right after I heard the "bong" sound when my Mac was starting back up.)
That worked for me at least.
your IP address on your AEBS will still seem like it's not right but at least it works (hopefully).
    Good Luck!

  • TS3899 Extremely high usage levels by Mail app

I recently checked my usage in settings and was shocked to see that my Mail app was taking up about 550 MB of space.  I deleted all of my emails in all visible folders and that amount did not budge.  I tried to sync without success.  How can this be resolved?  How do I reduce the amount of space this app is taking up?

    Hi bugsizzy,
i have the same problem did you find a solution?
    thanks

  • Extremely high memory usage on ideapad u310

    Hi all,
I've got a problem with my ideapad u310 touch running windows 8.1. When doing completely nothing (just staring at the desktop with no programs running) my laptop uses ~55% of ram. I find this extremely high, when i open a few chrome tabs and listen to some music, maybe open a powerpoint it even rises to 80+%. My Medion erazer laptop(also running 8.1) with 4GB ram uses ~65% with the same usage and ~35% while doing nothing. I deleted almost every lenovo programm except energy management and OneKey recovery and i disabled as much programs as possible on startup but there's almost no difference.
Now, I don't really care about the high percentages but what I do care about is that it gets extremely slow when 80% of the ram is in use. Does anybody know what i can do about this? I already tried the refresh windows option but that didn't help. Or am I just stuck with a device that has very very very poor multitasking performance.

    hi spromper,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Opening Task Manager will show you which application utilizes the RAM.
Also Doing a clean boot will help on freeing up RAM

  • Extremely high memory usage after upgrading to Firefox 12

After I upgraded to Firefox 12, I began frequently experiencing Firefox memory usage ballooning extremely high (2-3GB after a few minutes of light browsing). Sometimes it will drop back down to a more reasonable level (a few hundred MB), sometimes it hangs (presumably while trying to garbage collect everything), and sometimes it crashes. Usually the crashing thread cannot be determined, but when it can be, it is in the garbage collection code ( [https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/list?signature=js%3A%3Agc%3A%3AMarkChildren%28JSTracer*%2C+js%3A%3Atypes%3A%3ATypeObject*%29] ).
I was able to capture an about:memory report when Firefox had gotten to about 1.5 GB and have attached an image.
A couple of things I've tried. I have lots of tabs open (though the Don't load tabs until selected option is enabled), so I copied my profile, kept all my extensions enabled, but closed all my tabs. I then left a page open to http://news.google.com/ and it ran fine for several days, whereas my original profile crashes multiple times a day.
I also tried disabling most of my extensions, leaving the following extensions that I refuse to browse without:
    Adblock Plus
    BetterPrivacy
    NoScript
    PasswordMaker
    Perspectives
    Priv3
However, the problem still happened in that case.
Don't know if any of this helps or not. I'm looking forward to trying Firefox 13 when it comes out.

hello, thanks for reporting back with detailed information.
from a brief look at your extensions i don't recognize any known (to me at least) memory leaking ones. in the last weeks there were also reports about the java plugin causing high memory consumption in combination with firefox 12 - in case you have it installed in firefox > addons > plugins try disabling it for a few days & test how firefox is behaving with many tabs.
& although probably not related to the memory problems you could update your graphics driver to get better results with hardware acceleration in firefox - this is the latest driver by intel for your model & os:

  • Is it normal for battery to drain 10% every hour and phone getting extremely hot

My iphone 4 (replacement I got during the summer) heats up every so often. If i'm browsing, the side where the sim card is located heats up, pretty much everything I do the phone heats up. But the biggest issue is that my phone drains 10% every hour.
I have 5.0.0. When I charge my phone, the phone heats up. I never charge with the wall charger. I always charge using USB and my macbook.
I had my phone charged up to 100%. I made a 10 minute phone call, and sent some text messages, and my phone is already at 91%.
When i tether to my laptop, the phone heats up.
Before I got my replacement, I NEVER had any battery issues, i NEVER had any heating issues.
I took it to genius. And the guy told me that it is NORMAL for battery to be drained quickly. And that it is NORMAL that my phone warms up.
I even got him to feel how warm my phone gets, and he said "oh that is just normal"
How is this normal? I don't have any more warranty, but i feel like apple gave me a crappy replacement.

No, it's not normal.  Turn of whatever is using Location services, based on your description that is my first guess is that something is using location services constantly and draining the battery.
If that's not the case then some other app is running in the background.
Restore as new... use the device in the "new" "pristine" state for a day or so, does the issue persist?  If it does, you definitely have a hardware issue that Apple needs to address.
If it does not persist, then start restoring apps, one or two at a time until you find the one that is the culprit.

  • IPhone using extremely high amounts of data when not in use

I have a 4S on AT&T and am grandfathered in w/ the unlimited data plan. Last month I got the notification that I was in the top 5% of data users (which sounds crazy to me considering what some other people I've read about seem to use). According to AT&T's site I had used 2.09 GB with 16 days left in my billing cycle.
Once I got that notification I logged on to see if I could find out when I was using such large amounts of data. It turns out between midnight and 1 am almost every night there was large amounts of data sent. I think this is strange since for two reasons, 1) I'm on WiFi at home in my apartment and 2) I wasn't even awake at the times these charges occurred.
    Example: January 6, 2012 at 12:40 am I was charged for 417,327kb, roughly 417MB.
Similar data usage occurred almost every night going back to 12/28/11. On 12/29 I was charged for 468MB at 12:21am. Very unlikely this was actually data I used since I had work the next day and wasn't awake. It honestly looks like 80-85% of my data usage is coming from these occurrences. It also isn't likely that this is a total of data used throughout the day as there are other entries of smaller amounts spread out throughout the day.
Now, if I was on a truly unlimited plan and there was no such thing as throttling I really wouldn't care about this. But the fact is that my 3G speeds are being throttled (just ran speed test at a location I used to get over 1Mbps and I am was at .07 Mbps). I have spoken to AT&T and they insisted it was an issue w/ my phone, either the hardware or the OS. So I went to apple and the "Genius" did a DFU restore for me in store and told me that would fix it. It hasn't and now I'm stuck with this constantly happening and unbearably slow 3G data speeds for the rest of the month.
That was my last billing cycle where I was throttled down to download speeds of .07mbps. Unusable. This month I decided to closely monitor my data usage. I turned off iCloud and photostream, and turn off data whenever I'm using wifi. I turned off the sending info to apple setting.
I checked my account on ATT.com today and noticed that yesterday morning at 7:58 am while driving to work I somehow used 247 MB. Don't ask me how, I'm not steaming anything and my phone is either locked or playing music from the iPod app. I could probably stream Netflix for 5 hours and not use that much data.
I called AT&T to let them know (AGAIN) and got bumped up to a "Data manager" who was incredibly b*tchy and rude. She said there must be some app that's using that much data to update. I don't have any apps that are even that size so I don't see how this could possibly be the case. I tried to talk with her about how that can't really be the case and she just kept repeating that there must be some app using the data blah blah. I've gone to apple with this last month after failing with AT&T and at first they did a DFU restore and we restored the phone as new, then it kept happening so I went back they replaced my phone. AT&T said it must be a hardware or software issue last month, but this month it must be an app that's doing this. I can't get a straight answer from them and they just keep passing the ball to say it's Apple's problem.
I really don't know what to do. I'm grandfathered in on the unlimited plan and don't really want to change that. Say I change my plan to the 3GB's at the same $30/month. What's to say this won't keep happening and I'll be over that 3GB's in 10 days then get charged an extra $10 for each additional GB?!
I can't think of any apps I've downloaded in the past few months that would result in this change and I can't live with another 2/3 of my billing cycle being throttled down to unusable speeds.
Has anybody else had anything similar happen? I have no idea what to do next (and sorry for the long rant but I'm fresh off the phone with AT&T and I'm ******)

Thanks for the link. I only went through the last three pages and unfortunately it looks like there is no solution. I turn data off every night and turn it on only when I'm not in a wifi area. It seems that as soon as I turn it on, within an hour it charges me data for a backlog of whatever it didn't do when it was connected to wifi.
I think it's absolutely disgusting that AT&T can just dismiss this and act like it's the users fault. Apps and email updating in the middle of the night to the tune of 400MB? I highly doubt it and then when I called to ask them about it they try to make me sound stupid like I have an app or two open. Just really ticked me off. The worst part about it is that there doesn't appear to be anything I can do about it aside from never using my data.

  • Extremely high latency from 4am - 12pm in Baltimore, MD

Lately for the past month I have been getting extremely high latency 1500ms+.  I am directly wired to the Actiontec router using a new cable on a confirmed working lan card.  I believe the problem maybe at the POD card.  How would I go about proving to Verizon without going through numerous transfers of people that don't have a clue?

I had the same problem since Mid-June. Seems like it's anywhere in North Eastern United States. I myself is located about 20 Minutes from Washington DC. I get the latency right around 12~50 ms on first hop to Google or verizon.net on a good day with trace route test. The people in Verizon tells me that's normal but I don't buy that because my neighbor gets around less than 20 ms, never higher. It gets progressively bad around prime time and onward. Around 12 AM it can reach from 100~400 ms on latency to Google or verizon.net server.
I am a late night gamer and need that low latency badly. Seems like most of the people I have talk to from FSC (Fios solution Center) had no idea what is the difference between Bandwidth to Latency. They just call it "Speed". I have spoken with these people for almost every night for a month and a half, when I get a hint that they have no idea what they're talking about, I just hang up and call another one up or just request a supervisor to speak with.
Here is my trace route result, I have highlight the part that are unacceptable.

I'm going to list the things I have done so that perhaps if you are having the same issue, maybe you can anticipate or maybe save you time with this issue.
    Replaced Router
This will be my 3rd Router in my possession. The odds of having 3 bad routers are astronomical but yet FSC will try to keep sending you more.
Replaced coax cable (twice), ONT, and splitter.
Once again, the problem still persist. To get these fix, I had total of 4 dispatchers. From the word of their mouth, they stated it's beyond their level and when it comes to latency the tech at verizon server will be the best people to help you.
Reset ONT by unplugging it for 5 minutes or more to pull up a new Gateway IP.
Appearently, someone were able to fix their latency issue this way but the results are mixed. Either it's a permanent fix or temporary fix or it made the problem even worse.
    Optimizing connection/wired connections
I have a gaming PC, when they ask to clear the cache to solve my problem, it's an insult. Not only it's irralavent, in order for the computer to bog down because of cache overload, I must possess a computer that is less than of Pentium 2 back from 1995.
    Anti-virus and FireWall
If these were actually the source of my problem then the high latency should be constantly bad.
Potentially hacked or other connection to your router.
While this problem can be an issue, I can see who uses the internet and even turned off the wireless. There's no way an uninvited person can slow down my connections.
The server that I am connecting to such as website and gaming server is not guaranteed by the verizon.
Yes, that is true but what are the odds of having google, verizon.net, altavista, gaming server from Steam, etc are having the latency issue all at the same time? It is as if they are blaming traffic problem on I-95 for having bad congestion on I-66. It's not relevant at all!
    Verizon in-home Agent
    Must I continue?
I will now list the solutions that others have found. Please keep in mind that these problems may not be relevant to you.
    1) Bad PON card
Good luck convincing the verizon that this is the issue. For this to be the issue, people from your neighborhood must experience the same problem. Sadly, the problem is the latency and most people will be completely unaware of the problem as long as they are "online". There were cases where group of people resolved the problem but unfortunately the problem came back again the next day because the network tech at Verizon decided to switch them back to the old one.
    2) Faulty hardware on rack
As far as I have been told, couple claimed that this has been the issue and was permitted to move their line into another rack.
    3) Switching Gateway IP
One have claimed that certain Gateway IP they have been assigned are bad. For example, the house you're trying to drive away from has a huge pothole so you have to go around it by taking a detour.
    4) Resetting the ONT by unplugging the battery
There has been claim that doing this for 5 mintues clears it up. What this actually does is it allows you to get a new Gateway IP and re-establish connections.
    5) They blocked my IP
Yes, this can happen. I have been blocked once or more perhaps because sometimes I like to purchase and download games from Steam. When I do download, it does so for about an hour to 3 hours depending on the size of the game. Whilst this is going on, my room mate watches movie on Netflex and perhaps download music on the side. Also I watch On-Demand (requires internet). Also not to mention sometimes torrent and other P2P downloads. Check to see if you are blocked.
    6) Last but not least, Verizon is purposely gimping our latency to squeeze budget.
There has been talks and speculations that since many primary account holders are not advance users. In otherwords, many would settle for just being "online". This supports the claims for having such a low standard for latency management in verizon. If so, Verizon must stop advertising their "fast" gaming gimmick that they display on their commercial.

  • File size extremely high for .avi after render PE 9

I'm very new to PE and have tried to learn quick to redact info (faces etc) in .avi files for a government agency. I was able to open the file (in the trial version) and make the track matte by dragging the original file to the timeline then dragging it again to the video 2 timeline for the top layer, Question 1) is this the same as copy and paste or am I doubling the size already? Anyway, I was able to get the matte and everything done. Now, to Render and save... I choose computer/avi again (I need to keep it the same) and it took 1 hr 45 min to render it, that seemed long to me but maybe not... but mainly the file size was then 100,883 kb! Starting with a 29.7 kb file. This is what my question is about....could this be right? I can't use it if this is what I get. So, here are the particulars as I got G-spot and looked it up, as per serveral suggestions I saw here. I'm trying to understand the CODEC info but I fear I have a ways to go before I can figure out what I did wrong. (This is my test computer, the future work would be done on a newer, better computer).  The videos I would be working with come from various sources and will vary in length but will probably all be a kind of avi.

I appreciate any help you can give

Thanks for you response and the information was very helpful. I was able to choose and output that gave me a good file size and I do want DV-AVI (I don't remember what I chose but it worked) but, I don't see an option for DV-AVI - is that a general DV output selection, because there seem to be numerous (AVCHD, NTSC, DV STANDARD) acronyms (I have tried to understand what each is) which do I want?

For the use of Track Matte Keying, with say a Gaussian Blur, or maybe Moasic Effect, if you have not altered the In & Out Points, then just dragging the Asset to both Video 1 and Video 2 will work fine. If you HAVE adjusted the In & Out Points, you can just click-drag from the Source Monitor, where you set those In & Out Points, and all is good. The Copy/Paste is just another way to do it.
As you are doing an "overlay," the output File Size will not be affected in any way. You are also limiting the Blur, or Effect on Video 2 to just the area "exposed" by the Track Matte, so the pixel count will not be altered.
As Steve points out, the output CODEC in the AVI will determine the output File Size. File Size is basically determined by the Timeline's Duration and by the Bit-Rate of the output file. With DV-AVI, that Bit-Rate is pretty well set, and your Timeline determines the Duration. At ~ 13GB/hour, a DV-AVI will be pretty large, but that is the nature of the beast. Also, and as Steve points out, if you are going to do additional editing, and will be Importing that file into a New Project, DV-AVI is about as good, as it gets.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Ping shoots up every hour

    Hi Guys,
I really only notice this whilst playing games (I use a Logitech Gamepad, which monitors my ping) but I have noticed that at 5 to the hour, every hour, without exception, for approximately 1-2 minutes my ping will shoot up from between 20-50 to 300-1000. I know it's only for a couple of minutes but it can be a real pain when you amass a good score and then you get kicked from a game for too high a ping.
This has been going on for some 3-4 months now (I thought it was just temporary glitch) and tbh I don't really know what to do. It's certainly not the server of the game as I play various games and servers and it happens on any of them, and my mates don't seem to suffer with this anomilly.
    Any help/guidance is greatly appreciated.
    Running Homehub3
    Thanks
    Martin

At the moment I am hammering Battlefield Bad Company 2. I play with a couple of mates and it is only me suffering this problem. They have game pads to check their pings and they're saying they're not having this problem at all.
I initially thought it may be a virus on my system sending information (probably paranoia here) and did a re-install of windows but the problem is still here

  • Data being sent out every hour

We have an iphone 4s that is sending data out every hour. We noticed it when our data plan used 3G in 3 days! Any suggestions on why this is occuring, before we take the phone in the Apple store?

You have an app that is using data. If you are going by the carrier's report you don't know if it is sending or receiving, as most carriers lump all data together. You need to use the Usage info in Settings/General/Usage.
The built in apps get small amounts of data on a periodic basis, but it is a few KB. Anything more than that is either email or some other app. Music streaming apps could use that much, and the do not terminate when you exit them. Facebook can use a lot of data if you subscribe to a lot of notifications.

  • MY POSSIBLE FIX for Time Machine preparing for ages every hour

Like many others, i have had problems with Time Machines backups - ever since upgrading to 10.5.2. Every hour it would say 'preparing' for ages, and then, when it did finally backup, the data transfer was incredibly slow. Not to mention the amount of cpu usage it was using during the preparing status!
I have no idea if this is a FIX, or if i was just lucky, but Time Machine now works as it should, i.e. it backs-up seamlessly.
Anyway, this is what i did: booted from my Tiger disc (yes, even though i have Leopard) and went into its 'disc utility', from there i selected 'repair permissions'. Once the Tiger disc had completed repairing the permissions, i quit out of it and restarted my MacBook normally, i.e. not from the Tiger disc. When it had finished restarting, i went to disc utility and selected 'repair permissions'.
Ever since, TM has been just perfect. Coincidence? - i honestly do not know.
By the way, i don't know if repairing the permissions from within Leopard did anything or not, but this is the sequence i used. Plus also, it might be good to note that i had repaired permissions many a time, but with no success in fixing TM, but once doing it from the Tiger disc it fixed TM.
I hope it helps someone, because i know just how annoying it was when TM was not working correctly!

I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, which is why i believe i have had trouble.
    What is 'A&I or E&I'?

  • Can you make a spreadsheet object log every hour on the half hour?

I have a spreadsheet object that logs the data every hour on the hour, i.e., at 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., etc. Can I make it log every hour on the half hour, i.e., at 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., etc.? If so, how?

    Hi,
Yes you can make the spreadsheet object to behave in that way by just using with it the TimeOfHour object.
The TimeOfHour object output goes high every hour at some offset into each hour. So is just a matter of defining the offset as being half an our and placing the output of this object in the yellow field "Log now=" of the Spreadsheet object.
You can leave the "Interval=" and "Logging=" field empty since the "Log now=" will override them.
    I hope it helps

  • Extremely high 3g traffic since updating my iPhone 4 to iOS 5

    Hi!
Since I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.0 I recogniced that my device is generating extreme high amounts of traffic on 3G.
Sometimes 60MB each day (= 1,8 GB traffic per month, but only 1GB data option, could get expensive)!!! Before updating I had this traffic in about a week or so.
I have already shut down ALL sync services, I am not logged in to GameCenter or other services.
Before updating to iOS 5.0 I also used Twitter & FANCY and so on, these apps generates a lot of traffic when using them several times each day.
Now I have already deleted Twitter and FANCY and some other apps and anyway the traffic generated by the OS itself is really huge!!!
Anyone has the same problem or anyone can help me finding the reason for this high traffic in iOS 5.0??
Also some location services are permanently running and are killing the battery within a day... Why are they always turned on?
Now I turned off all location services and the battery life is still bad - only 1,5 days with low usage (former 3 or 4 days)...
    Please help!!
    Thanks in advance,
    Wolfgang

    Hi Urs
I searched a lot and maybe found a part of the reason for this high data traffic.
I'm synchronizing my contacts, calendar & reminder with iCloud & my mail with Hotmail.
When push is activated for Hotmail, that doesn't matter, but when push is activated for iCloud, the amount of data nearly explodes. So I turned iCloud to manual and let Hotmail on push.
Contacts, calendar & reminder are synchronizing when opened (I think this is enough).
Also I do a backup on iCloud and than I deactivate the function (I do not delete the last backup, I only deactivate the option for automatic backup).
It seems, that the backup functionality also generates traffic when not on WiFi - especially at night!!
The battery life has been getting better, when I deactivated the support for automatic time zone changes (location services were always on).
The battery finaly got MUCH BETTER since the update on iOS 5.0.1.
My traffic is actually higher than on iOS 4 but not so high as before I deactivated some services...
I hope this info is a little help for you!!
Let me know if this works for you, ok?
    Best regards,
    Wolfgang

For those that have looked at this post... I may have found the remedy to my issue.
I spoke with Apple Support and we went through the normal proceedure:
    1) Run Disk Utilities...check
    2) Delete cache files, reboot
The machine was still running high unless I disconected the ThunderBolt Monitor... it would then run normal. If I plugged it back in, eventually the kernal_task would go extremely high.
So, a thought came to mind,
    I had recently purchased a 27" iMac with a second 27" monitor,
So in talking with Apple we decided that changing out the monitor to the "new" 27" one would at lease confirm that the monitor is not the issue.
When I changed it out... my MBP worked perfectly!
Here is where it gets interesting...
I ran the MBP with the "new" monitor for enough time that it should have spiked the Kernal_Task. It didn't.
I then, because of the set up, disconected the "new" monitor and reconected the "original" monitor,
It has been over 24 hours now and the MBP has NOT had any Kernal_task spikes at all!!
So, at lease for me, the issue seems to be solved.
Now, I would like to know why.
Could connecting the "new" monitor have changed a setting that was corrupt within the MBP?
    Anyone with any ideas?
    Doug
