    Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • Apple 5C voicemail doesn't work even after Apple Support

About a month ago, I purchased an iPhone 5C and the voicemail wouldn't set up. I called Apple support and they helped me upgrade to iOS 7.0.4 and the newest version of my carrier, Verizon. They then helped me call my own number and set up my personalized greeting and voicemail. We even test called the number from Apple support and left a message. My Apple support helper did get the greeting and I recieved a messgae from them. The voicemail and greeting continued to work for a few days, and here we are a week later, it doesn't work. Help?

Why is this Apple's problem? Your voicemail is provided by your carrier.
Apple was kind enough to do the VM configuration for you when you couldn't, but the *setup* is Verizon's problem.

  • Wired internet doesn't work, even after fresh install?

So i'm fairly new to the linux stuff, but for some reason I cannot get my wired internet (eth0) to work. Bear with me because I've got a decent tale to give to fill you in:
After successfully installing archlinux for the first time, I was able to get the internet and everything working, but my boot manager was messed up. So I got a friend to fix that problem for me and I started updating my system through pacman. After successfully updating and changing the pacman mirror files I started downloading/installing gnome (and gnome-extra). I left it overnight and when I woke up in the morning all hell broke loose. After rebooting my computer and logging back into arch I found a number of my bash commands no longer worked (ifconfig, iwconfig, halt, shudown, reboot, dhcpcd, just to name a few I remember) so I had to manually turn off my labtop. At that point I decided to reinstall linux.
After reinstalling linux my network troubles began and from that point on I can no longer connect to the pacman servers and my eth0 times out upon booting into linux every time (for those of you wondering, yes I did change in rc.conf the eth0="dhcp" like I was supposed to). I get a transient failure or something of the likes. The wierdest thing is this:
When trying to reinstall linux using the ftp install I can configure my network (step 0), but when I get to trying to connect to a server and downloading the packages I fail to connect to the servers! Can someone please tell me what is going on?
Just for a few more backgrounds, I am installing arch64 on an intel core-duo processor with it dual-booting with windows vista ultimate. I don't think any of this is the problem considering I had it working once up a time, but now for some reason it doesn't work so i'm hoping for my wiser archlinux users to help me out.
EDIT: In a new turn of developments it seems my wired connection is now malfunctioning. Although just 5 hours ago at a friends house (when I was still having linux network problems) it worked just fine. My network card is a Intel(r) PRO/1000 PL card. Can my linux half screw up my windows half ethernet card and vice versa?
Just tried to uninstall and then reinstall my ethernet card and my wired connection still doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Well after many hours of toil, it seems that it has now decided to work. Still have no clue why my wired connection failed for that duration of time, but whatever. Archlinux is installed and running fine so I suppose all ends well.

  • HT5654 I need to update my iTunes but whenever I try it doesn't work, even after it restarts itself.

I recently purchased an iPhone 5s, and when I plugged it into my macbook pro for the first time my iTunes said it could not connect to the phone because the iTunes needed to be updated to version 11.1 or later. I have 10.7 so I am a bit behind the ball.
Anyway, when I try to install, a window pops up that says that the new version (11.1.3) is available, and I agree to "Download iTunes."A software updates comes up and it a window loads and checks for new software. Sounds good so far I think. But here's where I run into the problem I think.
I remember updating iTunes to be a sort of long task full of agreeing to 100 different pop up windows, but this times it brings me to a window that says the software updates are ready, and I agree to Install and Restart. My computer then begind to restart, but doesn't shut off all the way. The screen turns blue and brings me to log into my account, it seems like I have just logged out. When I log in, nothing happens. I open iTunes and it is still version 10.7.
I need to connnect my phone to the itunes on my computer but it refuses to work. I went through this process three times. Does anyone know what's wrong??
ps. for the record (not sure if this has anything to do with my CPU software not being up to date) my macbook is currently updated to os x 10.6.8.

My computer then begind to restart, but doesn't shut off all the way. The screen turns blue and brings me to log into my account, it seems like I have just logged out. When I log in, nothing happens. I open iTunes and it is still version 10.7.
Sounds like the computer is going through a STOP error (blue screen of death) when it tries to restart, and then reboots to the last known good configuration.
Do you have any better luck if you update using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website?

  • I am having problems opening pages in safari. the rotating wheel at the right end of the address window doesn't stop even after the page has filled up. then if i try to open other pages it gets stuck and won't open them.

I started having problems opening pages today. When first open a page it seems to download the page OK, but the rotating wheel on the right-hand end of the address field keeps rotating after the page is completely filled up. Then if I try to open other pages it becomes slower and eventually stops filling-in the pages, while the rotating wheel keeps rotating.
I wonder whether junk is being downloaded into my mac, or what is going on. Help will be geatly appreciated.

When was the last time you emptied the Safari cache?
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
If that didn't make a difference, go back to the menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari. Select the top 5 boxes then click Reset.
And how much free space on the startup disk?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space. Freeing Up Hard Disk Space - Mac Guides
If emptying cache or resetting didn't help and there's enough free space on the startup disk, login to another user account, launch Safari. Same problems there indicates a system wide problem. Log back into your admin account so you can check the startup disk.
    Launch Disk Utility. /Applications/Utilities
Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
I wonder whether junk is being downloaded into my mac
Nothing should "download" to your Mac unless you initiate the download yourself. You can check the Downloads folder from the Safari > Window menu or your Downloads folder in the Finder.

  • WiFi doesn't work even though it says that it is connected

When i connect to some WiFi networks it says that i'm connected but when i try to do something like access the iTunes store it says that i don't have WiFi. It happens with some WiFi network and for others it works fine. how ca i fix this so it works 100% of the time? I have the latest firmware and the network that i try to use does not require a log in. It is a secure network and i type in the password and it says that i am connected.

Sometimes, if the WiFi is very weak, it won't connect all of the way.
If it says you are connected in the Settings app, but the WiFi strength isnt being shown next to "iPod" in the status bar (the bar at the top of the screen with the time and battery) then the connection is bad. To verify if a connection is working, I see if Safari can load a webpage. If it can't, then your connection is crappy.
Also, a router could be broadcasting a signal, but no internet. Make sure your router is properly configured.

  • AirPlay Mirroring doesn't work even with the specified hardware/software

    Hello,
    I have a late 2011 (OS X 10.7.5) MBP and a Sep  2012 Apple TV (MD199LL/A) with the updated software 5.1.
AirPlay Mirror icon doesn't appear in the menu bar.
No options/icons or texts related to AirPlay mirroring in System Preferences > Displays either. Checked detect displays, still no.
Updated all the software in both the MBP and the Apple TV on Oct 6th 2012 late evening/night and restarted both a couple of times, still no signs of AirPlay Mirror icon or option.
BTW, AirPlay works with iTunes, so I can hear music from MBP on my TV.
AirPlay Mirroring works with the latest iPad (as of Sep 2012) as well.
I think one or two people have reported this issue on the forum in response to some question/discussion. Thought it deserved starting a new topic in case some Apple folks are listening.
Perhaps their adverstising or guidelines need an update to remove references of AirPlay mirroring working with 2011 or newer MBPs. Perhaps they meant 2012 or newer?

    pthompson63
To be honest I use mine mainly near power and juice up when I can so I don't test the battery too heavily, so I haven't noticed but would probably not.
If mirror is the only thing you want to do but don't want ML look at third party apps such as airparrot or reflectorapp (I hvae used airparrot and found it OK).

  • Siri doesn't work still after the apple rep I spoke to said it would be back up this morning. anyone else have this problem too? and how can I fix it?

it has been 24 hours and  Siri still doesn't want to take any commands anyone else have this problem too? and how can I fix it? she just keeps saying there is something wrong and to try again later. I didn't buy this phone to be jipped on any features.

Mine wasnt working either but i saw in another thread that you should try Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. Ignore the warnings, all your settings have to be changed back but you dont lose any media or data, you just have to put your background back and location settings. It fixed Siri for me but dictation still doesnt work. Hopefully it works for you :-]
