FacesContext  ,getMimeType,setContentType

I need to know the mimetype of a know file to doanload it, how can I do this?
I need this response.setContentType(file.type);
Edited by: dimis on Dec 10, 2009 2:00 AM

If you're using JSF 2.0, then you can call ExternalContext.getMimeType().
If you're using a version of JSF prior to 1.2, then you'll need to call ExternalContext.getContext() and downcast to ServletContext and call getMimeType() from there.

    I find that if i use

    it will open the page , but unfortunetly it return an error like :

    how i can fix this problem ?

    In portlet project, to navigate between pages, you should not use the URL property to link to a page. Instead, portlets use navigation via action handling. You use the Page Navigation editor to set up links to pages; that is, the navigation editor sets the action property.
    Here is an example to hyperlink ans button to open a new page:
    # From within the IDE, create a new portlet project. This action creates the project and one page, PortletPage1.jsp.
    # Create a second portlet page, called PortletPage2.jsp, for the project.
    # Drop a Hyperlink component onto the first portlet page, PortletPage1. (You can drop the Hyperlink on the page in the Design window or on the PortletPage1 node in the Outline window.) Change the Hyperlink's text property to Next Page.
    # Drop a Button component (found in the Basic section of the Palette) onto the second portlet page, PortletPage2.
    # Open the Page Navigation Editor. It displays the two pages (PortletPage1.jsp and PortletPage2.jsp) of the application.
    # Click the PortletPage1.jsp icon in the Navigation window to expand it, and then drag a connector from hyperlink1 to PortletPage2.jsp. Change the name of the connector from case1 to Page2.
    # Click the PortletPage2.jsp icon in the Navigation window to expand it, and then drag a connector from button1 to PortletPage1.jsp. Change the name of the connector from case1 to Page1.
    # Run and deploy the portlet. The browser displays PortletPage1 and you should see the Next Page hyperlink. When you click the Next Page hyperlink, the Apache Pluto Portal server displays PortletPage2. Click the Page2 button to return to PortletPage1.

  • Get NoClassDefFoundError: javax/faces/context/FacesContext Error at Runtime

    I'm in 11g, PS1. I have an application and I have a SelectOneChoice component that invokes a managed bean (i.e. #{queryHandler.availableFilterChoice}). It then calls my constructor public QueueHandler and within that constructor i have the following line of code:

  • JSP creation of JNLP - MS IE ignoring setContentType() but OK on Firefox?!?

    Hi,
    I've got a JSP which generates a JNLP file with parameters from a form input.
    I'm setting the mime type using:
    <% response.setContentType("application/x-java-jnlp-file"); %>
    BUT MS IE is unhappy/dumb about this and is showing me the File Download dialog saying "File name: abc.jsp, File type: "Would you like to open the file or save it to your computer? <ie no file type!>
    FIREFOX on the other hand is perfectly happy, recognising the content as JNLP and offers to open with WebStart.
    What gives?! I'm sure I've had this work on IE before!

    For the Internet Explorer JNLP setup, the way IE finds its way involved the Windows Registry and, specifically, three different keys.
    First, I should mention that Internet Explorer attempts to use the same file associations that already existed in Windows Explorer. You perhaps have had to tell Windows Explorer to "Open File with..." so that it learns a new file type. What this does not do is inform the desktop what the MIME type of that file is. For the JNLP files, the short names the registry uses is:
    JNLPFile - generic name for this file type
    .jnlp - literal file suffix, appropriate when the file is opened via Windows Explorer
    application/x-java-jnlp-file - literal MIME type
    Here are the keys, but I do not recommend that you attempt to enter them by hand. Le the Java installation program set these registry entries up:
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/x-java-jnlp-file]
    "Extension"=".jnlp"
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jnlp]
    @="JNLPFile"
    "Content Type"="application/x-java-jnlp-file"
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\JNLPFile]
    @="JNLP File"
    "EditFlags"=hex:00,00,01,00
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\JNLPFile\Shell]
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\JNLPFile\Shell\Open]
    @="&Launch"
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\JNLPFile\Shell\Open\Command]

    i m using response.setContentType("application.vnd.ms-access");but while saving this file ,the extension is jsp format not in mdb extension ...
    but if i use response.setContentType("application.vnd.ms-excel") or response.setContentType("application.vnd.ms-word") or response.setContentType("application.vnd.ms-powerpoint ")..the file extension is changing and opens according to htier type defined in code..
    is there any other solution open in ms-access format.?
    please give the soution if any expert knows (urgent)
    thanks in advance..
    note:i ahve already asked this question before .but i didnt got the answer....

    I am not 100% sure on this but I think it means the browser will try and open the file, I tested it with an xml file and using inline opens the xml in the browser window. I just looked at something I wrote more recently and I used the attachment option as this forces a 'save or open' dialog box.
      response.setContentType("text/" + contentType);
      response.addHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment;filename=catalogue_download" + versionID + "." + contentType);

  • Javax.faces.context.FacesContext not found in JDeveloper 10.1.3.2

    I tried to use javax.faces.context.FacesContext calss in my application but JDeveloper 10.1.3.2 can not find this class
    ( the same problem also in 10.1.3)
    I checked the jar file of this library (jsf-api.jar ), it is in folder [jsf-ri] in Jdev home
    why JDev. can not read this library
    please how can i solve this problem
    Waheed

    Hi,
    make sure the project you are working in is configured for JSF. Double click onto the project to open its properties and set the "Technology Scope" to JSF. This ensures that all libraries are cnfigured. This also adds aa copy of jsf-impl.jar to the Web-Inf/lib directory of your project.

  • Retrieving Session bean object in a Servlet from FacesContext Object

    Hi,
    I added code in a servlet to retrieve Session bean object from the Faces Context object. I don't know what the problem was, but when I am accessing the application from two different machines and I am trying to retrieve the value from the session object in the servelet it is giving the value what I set into the session bean on one machine browser into another machine browser. Just I want to know the code which I had included in the servlet is correct or not.
    This is the code I am using in my servelt:
    1) To get the Faces context object
    protected FacesContext getFacesContext(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) {
         FacesContext facesContext = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
         if (facesContext == null) {
              //System.out.println("Current context was null...creating one now");
              FacesContextFactory contextFactory =
                   (FacesContextFactory)FactoryFinder.getFactory(FactoryFinder.FACES_CONTEXT_FACTORY);
              LifecycleFactory lifecycleFactory =
                   (LifecycleFactory)FactoryFinder.getFactory(FactoryFinder.LIFECYCLE_FACTORY);
              Lifecycle lifecycle = lifecycleFactory.getLifecycle(LifecycleFactory.DEFAULT_LIFECYCLE);
              facesContext =
                   contextFactory.getFacesContext(request.getSession().getServletContext(), request, response, lifecycle);
              //Set using our inner class
              InnerFacesContext.setFacesContextAsCurrentInstance(facesContext);
              //set a new viewRoot, otherwise context.getViewRoot returns null
              UIViewRoot view = facesContext.getApplication().getViewHandler().createView(facesContext, "ContextName");
              facesContext.setViewRoot(view);
         return facesContext;
    2) Code to get the session bean:
    Utils utilsBean = (Utils) getFacesContext(request, response).getApplication().getVariableResolver().resolveVariable (getFacesContext(request, response), "utils");

  • Javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: Cannot find FacesContext

    Hello All,
    I was trying to create a simple JSF page (Welcome.jspx )(please find code bellow) .But it is always giving the following error:
    javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: Cannot find FacesContext
    The error appears though i am calling the page with the faces servlet (http://128.128.5.64:8989/GradeEntry/faces/Infrastructure/Welcome.jspx)!!
    I have searched all possible forums on the Internet and tried their suggestions with no luck...My web.xml configuration contains the right Faces Servlet Mapping :
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/faces/*</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    Bear in mind that i can run from the project pages that are generated from Oracle Jheadstart...But i just can't run this welcome page that i've created with JDeveloper.
    Please find bellow the code for Welcome.jspx:
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='windows-1252'?>

    You help is very appreciated!!

    Hi,
    actually this mapping only identifies those requests to be handled by teh JSF servlet. Its not a redirect.
    I see several namespace definitions in your page, but no taglib reference. Wondering how this is supposed to work
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/faces/html" prefix="afh"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/faces" prefix="af"%>
    I assume the next crash you will see is when you add JSF components to
    <f:view>
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type"
    content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"/>
    <title>tt</title>
    </head>
    <body><h:form></h:form></body>
    </html>
    </f:view>
    Note that mixing HTML elements with JSF is not a recommended approach

    Hi,
    In my ADF Application, new users are to be allowed to Register by clicking a button in login page. The Application is based on ADF Security Wizard and I have created default pages for Login and Error, so the application's login page is login.html.
    Now when I’m trying to navigate to 'NewUserRegistrationPage.jspx' Im getting javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: Cannot find FacesContext error.

    Hi Branislav,
    Thanks a lot for your suggestion through which now Im able to navigate to NewRegistration page from login.html.
    In my application login.html is under public_html folder where as the NewRegistration page in public_html/WebPages.
    Code I used:
    New User Registration
    But the issue now is, the NewUserRegistrationPage was also under the ADFSecurity, so inorder to navigate to it again the user had to provide authentication. So, I have removed this particular page from Security and it has started to work.
    But the issue now I face is something else. In the NewUserRegistrationPage I have a selection to be made by user about the type of user he is and based on the selection he would be navigated to next page, This next page has a VO on it as a 'create form', through which he can directly fill the form and submit his details to database table.
    But as I have removed these pages from ADF Security and authentication, the form fields/attributes in the VO are not getting binded, Im getting this Exception:
    500 Internal Server Error
    javax.faces.el.PropertyNotFoundException: Error testing property 'inputValue' in bean of type null
    For testing purpose when I have provided link from application page to NewRegistrationPage the flow is working properly, able to navigate to second page and submit the filled form to database, I think this is working because we have entered the application after providing the login credentials.'
    Help in this greatly needed.
    Thanks,
    Manasa.

  • Cannot find a way to access facesContext during web app initialization

    I need to access a bizConfig managed bean and insert it into the db during initialization.
    facesContext is an object of request scope and is not available in
    1) filter's init() method
    2) ServletContextListener.contextInitialized()
    Ideally I would do it in ServletContextAttributeListener.attributeAdded(), but managed beans are instantiated lazily and this method won't be invoked.
    Any thoughts how it can be done properly?

    The only way I can obtain BizConfig is through the Managed Bean Facility. The categories are configured in the faces config file:

    Wow, I like stack traces ;-)
    No indication what you try to do, no information about your environment either.
    What I see is that the URL you use to start the app (if it is an app) has a suffix '.jspx' in it. This is normally not the case for Fusion Web apps. And the 'faces' part of the url is missing. So try http://127.0.0.1:7101/service_method_app-ViewController-context-root/faces/servicemethodTimo
    @John: same idea :-) You beat me again...

  • FacesContext Issue what is wrong

    hi i have this code using the FacesContext to talk inbetween my session bean and the page request bean basically this method is attached to a command button that will save an ID and then move to the next page with the "success" action
    i find this kind of weird cause usually this works fine but this time it keeps buging with a null pointer exception
    if someone could tell me what is wrong with this or tell me an alternative method to do this
    FacesContext facesContext = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    SuperSaver neededBean = (SuperSaver)FacesContext.getApplication().getVariableResolver().resolveVariable(facesContext, "backing");
    CoreOutputText var=this.getGetter();
    //this is just a test line
    System.out.println(var.getValue().toString());
    try{
    neededBean.setpersonid(var.getValue().toString());
    catch(Exception e){
    System.out.println("this does not work");
    return "success";

    then i am a bit confused i have been spending the last 2 days trying to solve an issue i have this is my first real jsf application using ADF BC and i dont get a couple of little details maybe you clear my mind.
    1--> I start with a simple employee creation form. (one table)
    2--> then i have to assign them a country -- a location -- and a department (all different views)
    that part is fine i use the navigation list but from then and on it gets harder

  • Facescontext message in a bounded task flow with a jsff

    Hi,
    I have a jsf page that uses a page fragment. The page fragment uses a backing bean to do some task. In the backing bean I am creating a FacesMessage and adding it to FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().
    Everythign works fine and i can see the message during the runtime.
    When i create a bounded task flow using that page fragment, and include that task flow onto a page, i cannot see the message anymore.
    Does someone have any idea what may be going on?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    does the page fragment have an af:message tag ? Since you are not refreshing the parent page, which usually holds the af:messages component, its not showing . At least this is where I see the problem coming from
