Faceted search using endeca

Are endeca dimensions and facets(as in faceted search the same things). If not can someone provide me some reference material for doing faceted search using endeca.

I'm not sure whether your question is aimed at the Discovery or Commerce Endeca engine. However, there are similarities.
In Oracle Commerce. a dimension is an attribute type that contains data that will drive facetted guided navigation. The values contained by the field become the facets that you see in Guided Navigation. A Property attribute is used for continuously varying data. Either attribute type , Dimension or Property, can be made searchable.
In Information Discovery, no distinction is made between Dimension and Property attribute types. Instead, any attribute has the potential for driving faceted navigation, but an attribute has to be is configured to do so. In Studio, on the View you can specify whether an attribute should be used Dimensionally e.g. as a facet for filtering results. Generally speaking, continuously varying data will not be configured to be used Dimensionally whereas textual data often will be. These settings can be modified in the Views editor in Studio.

I think you basically want to implement all the Browse and Shop pages in ATG application from Endeca.
Couple of steps to follow
1. Create an Endeca Application using DeploymentTemplatePCI
2. Configure your product-sku-output-config.xml to add the required record attributes and dimensions that you would need apart from category and item type dimensions which are provided to you OOTB
3. Perform the baseline update from ATG using ProductCatalogSimpleIndexingAdmin component and check for the indexed records using the Endeca JSP Reference application
4. Create the category and sub-category pages in using Endeca Experience Manager in Work Bench (Eg: /pages/browse, you can show different content to each category by configuring the location)
5. Invoke the page from ATG using InvokeAssemblerDroplet or using the AssemblerPipelineServlet defined in your request handling pipeline.

Using Endeca Search in CSC

Is CSC search uses Endeca, if not is there any integration document which i can refer for ATG integration with Endeca. Any pointers will be helpful.

ATG CSC won't come integrated with Endeca as of now, it uses ATG Search which is not that great. You can find the Endeca integration with ATG at the below document

Just weighing in here. To create site URLs, the current revision of the Endeca Sitemap Generator (v2.1.1) uses Spring configuration. Specifically, the Endeca Sitemap Generator does not know how to consume UrlFormatter configuration specified using Nucleus. As such, if you configure your UrlFormatter (and associated classes) with Nucleus, then you will need to manage two separate versions of your UrlFormatter configuration: a Nucleus version for your application and a Spring version for the Sitemap Generator.
Without getting into any specifics, the purpose of the Endeca Sitemap Generator is to create sitemaps within a multi-dimensional navigation space. This is a unique problem (and big SEO opportunity) for faceted search sites. This is not something that you'll get with any generic sitemap generation utility.
With the above in mind, my understanding is that the forthcoming version of CRS will use the NucleusPublisher mechanism to resolve UrlFormatter components that are managed within a Spring context. While not ideal in the long-term, this does allow you to manage a single UrlFormatter configuration, which can be shared between your application and the Sitemap Generator.

Typeahead problem using Endeca

Hi all,
We are exploring the type ahead using Endeca option.
We started with the reference App (typeahead.xq) and were able to set it up.The challenge we are facing is:
We are getting the suggestions only after typing the entire search term.
For example:If we type "North" the suggestions North Goa,North America,North Carolina are coming up only after typing the entire word "North".
We would expect those to come after the letters Nor are typed or No are typed.I assume we are doing a match mode all hence this problem.
Can anyone guide us for achieving the wild card suggestions instead of getting the result after typing the whole word?

Hi Kartheek,
There are a couple of things to check here:
1. Enable Dimensions for wildcard search by opening the project in Developer Studio, then open the Dimensions from the Project menu and you will see a button up top called "Configure Search". Open this and check the "Enable for wildcard search checkbox in the dialog box. You must re-run the baseline update.
2. Ensure that you are encapsulating the search term(s) inside the asterisk symbol when submitting the search to the Endeca engine. I can't remember but this may already be in the typahead.xq module.

Enterprise Search using Sharepoint Server 2007 + SAP R/3

I want to achieve an enterprise search using SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS).
SharePoint includes the BDC (business data catalog) which allows you to communicate with the SAP System.
I read in the Microsoft whitepapers that thereu2019s a need for a web application server 6.40.
So here is the problem:
We have SAP R/3 Enterprise 4.7 with WAS 6.20. We donu2019t want to change or upgrade the SAP system.
There are ways to connect the WAS to the R/3 system e.g. RFC.
But does this still work for search in SharePoint?
Did anybody already deal with this problem?
Any other ideas connecting SharePoint to SAP in this scenario?

Reading (and searching, use of TOC and index) Acrobat files offline

OK - I have tried several things in effort to read PDFs offline.
The 'tools' that allow me to access these files PDFReader Pro and GoDocs are incapable of doing searches, use TOC, and index.. It is basically a picture of a PDF. They also present it in the linear form where I need to actually scroll the 343 PAGES to get to the information I want to read mid-way into the document.
Is there a realistic tool that actually properly presents PDF files offline and allows it to be used as it was intended? OOPS - correction Safari cant display this right either.... never mind ....

I removed an erroneous statement that safari can properly display PDFs - it can't provide search, index/toc accesses. Bogus!

On a possibly related note, see http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20004258-263.html?tag=mncol;txt for a way to ADD stuff to the TOC. I'm just passing this along, I haven't tried it.

How do you perform partial word search using PDF Open Parameters?

We are using the 'search=' open parameter in the URL string, which open a PDF and automatically searches for a word within the PDF. It works great for whole word searches. Unfortunately, it does not work for partial word, or phrases. In other words, if I'm searching on '123456' and there is a word in the document that is '1234567', it will not find the partial word, or first 6 characters of the 7 character word. You can perform a partial or phrased search using the advance search feature of Adobe Reader. So, currently after the PDF opens, and shows no hits on the automatic search for '123456', we are able to manually search again for a partial word search, and then see matches in the document. Is there any way to specify to use a whole or partial word search when using the 'search=' open parameter, so that we can automatically match on partial and whole words? Something like 'search=123456*'?

It never worked that way. Command-F shows the page search bar.

Service Ticket: Search using Inbox & My Worklist in IC WebClient

Dear Gurus,
When I create a Service Ticket in the IC WebClient in CRM 5.0 and save it, the system generates a Transaction Number which I can then search for by using Interaction History, Inbox and My Worklist.
When I search using Interaction History, I select the relevant Service Ticket and the system takes me to an Interaction Record, and from there I can navigate to the correct Service Ticket.
When I search using Inbox, the system takes me to a Service Order, which I do not believe is correct.
When I search using My Worklist, the system also takes me to a Service Order, which I do not believe is correct.
Any recommendations?

You can search service ticket from inbox ideally by entering the object ID in the agent inbox or you can also search for service tickets in interaction record which is an activity transaction type if you maintain the copy control for service ticket from interaction record then you can search for service ticket through the interaction record as well.

One of our requirement is to enable the search using firstname and lastname. We store users, groups, roles, and accounts in Oracle Internet Directory and integrated with UCM. I would like to know the ways to show firstname and lastname fields in the search so that users can search with those properties instead of author metadata .

If I got the question, first name and last name refer to first and last names of document authors, right? Otherwise, I miss the link between search for documents and people identities in an identity pool.
Note that search dialogs support "wild-characters" - that is, you can enter "Jiri Mac*" instead of "Jiri Machotka" - alternatively, use "Contains" rather than "Equals To" criteria.
Furthermore, I'm wondering how you intend to use first and last names in GUI - do you prefer to have two names that you somehow construct together? Do you want to display the names to users? (How many names will be in first names? How many in last names?)

BP telephone Search using wildcards (IC Winclient)

I'm unable to search business partners by telephone number using wildcards (*) because I get the error message "enter a country to do the search using wildcards".

I have requirement for product search using the product table which has around 5 million products. I Need to show top 100 disitnct products searched in the following order

Where '_' is space. If first two/three/or any criteria itslef gives me 100 records then i need not search for another patterns

You could use an Oracle Text context index with a wordlist to speed up substring searches and return all rows that match any of your criteria, combined with a case statement to provide a ranking that can be ordered by within an inner query, then use rownum to limit the rows in an outer query. You could also use the first_rows(n) hint to speed up the return of limited rows. Please see the demonstration below. If you decide to use Oracle Text, you may want to ask further questions in the Oracle Text sub-forum on this forum or space or whatever they call it now.

Can't click links when searching using Google - iPhone 5

Strange problem but bear with me.
iPhone 5. When I search using the google box in the upper right corner, and the search results come up, I am unable to click any of the result links that appear. The browser appears like it is opening the link, but nothing happens and the circle just spins.
Bookmarked links work fine as well as any web address keyed directly into the bar. The only issue is when I search and attempt to go to a web page by clicking the link after a search. Any idea what's wrong? I've only noticed this while using cellular not on wifi but I can't confirm.

Oh that you can leave on BlackBerry Browser.
If you're in the browser go into Options | General Properties can you set the default browser to Internet Browser?
Also try to reset the device by removing the battery for 15 seconds and replacing it.

It is possible to refine employee search using status indicator STAT2 (Employees' Employment Status). I would like to refine employee search using e.g. Customer defined status indicator STAT1. I created an entry identical to STAT2 but with STAT1
in view V_T77S0 but it did not help at all.

Who's Who (ESS): Selection and Output
In this activity, you can change the fields for selecting and outputting data for the Who's Who service. The fields of the underlying InfoSet Query are available. Note, however, that text fields cannot be used for data selection (with the exception of the fields Organizational Unit, Position Name, and Job Name).
You have the following options:
You can specify the fields for selecting an employee.
You can specify the fields for the hitlist, that is, the list of all employees who meet the selection criteria.
You can specify the fields for the detail screen for a selected employee.
All selected fields are automatically transferred to the service in the sequence you chose and are then available for selection or output.
Standard settings
The standard system contains an InfoSet for the service. It contains default selection and output fields.
Activities
1. Check whether the default settings fulfill your requirements.
2. If you want to change the default values, proceed as follows:
a) Choose the relevant tab page and remove the indicator in the Use default settings for group box.
To change the selection fields, choose the Selection Fields tab page.
To change the fields of the hitlist, choose the Output Fields List tab page.
To change the fields of the detail screen, choose the Output Fields Detail tab page.
b) If you want to delete a default field, select the field in the relevant tab page and choose Delete Line from Display Table.
c) If you want to add an additional field from the InfoSet, select the field in the Fields in InfoSet group box and choose Copy Entry from InfoSet Table. You have two options:
You select an existing field in the tab page and choose Insert Entry in Display Table. The system copies the InfoSet field and inserts it above the selected entry.
You select the blank field at the end of the tab page and choose Insert Entry in Display Table. The system copies the InfoSet field and inserts it at the end of the tab page.
Note that the sequence of the fields in the tab page determines the sequence of the fields in the service.
The selection screen fields are laid out according to the following pattern (maximum of 4 rows and 20 fields):

The fields in the detail screen are laid out underneath each other for a maximum of 20 rows, while the fields in the hitlist are laid out from left to right for each row, for a maximum of 20 fields.

d) If you want to add a new field that is not in the InfoSet, you have to create a new InfoSet. You then assign the required field to the new InfoSet. Then select the new InfoSet in the InfoSet field in the Parameters group box. Proceed as described above to add the field to the relevant tab page.
For information about creating InfoSets, see Specify InfoSets for Interactive Employee Selection in the IMG for the HR Information System.
Not the SAP naming convention for the standard InfoSet: /SAPQUERY/HR_XX_PA_ESS
The country code "XX" stands for "international." The InfoSet itself is in the global area (cross-client). You can create customer-specific InfoSets by copying an existing entry. Take account of your customer namespace and set the relevant country code.
Note: The Personnel Number field (P0000-PERNR) must not be added to the InfoSet. If you want to use the personnel number, use the P0001-PERNR field, for example.
e) In the Sort field of the Output Fields List tab page, you can specify the sort sequence in the hitlist.
Example: You have selected the Last Name and First Name fields for the hitlist. You want the hits to be sorted first of all by the employees' last name, then by the first name. You therefore enter 1 for the last name and 2 for the first name in the Sort field.
f) Once you have completed your modifications, choose Check Display Table. If the check was successful, choose Save to save your changes. If inconsistencies were found during the check, a message in the relevant line notifies you of them.
Further notes
In certain circumstances, runtime issues may occur, especially in data selection. If they do, set the Selection Fields indicator in the Use Default Settings for group box. This deactivates the use of the InfoSet Query; instead, the system uses the BAPI_EMPLOYEE_GETDATA method.
You can switch the hitlist and the detail screen to the BAPI_EMPLOYEE_GETDATA method by setting the Output Fields List and Output Fields Detail indicators.
Note that by setting an indicator, you restrict the field selection in the relevant tab page to the interface of the method.
If, in the initial screen, you enter a country for which values have not yet been defined, the system automatically creates an entry that sets all indicators in the Use default settings for group box. You can then edit the entry to suit your requirements.
You can specify whether you want employees' photos to be displayed in the service in the IMG for Employee Self-Service under Determine User Options.
