Fast Failover property prevents container restart

I'm running a 10.1.3.1 Application Server using the managed data sources using
connection pooling which connect to a 10.1.0.4.0 Database in a clustered RAC
environment. (Before our recent migration from the 9.0.4 application server, we used
the oc4j startup parameter to use the fast failover.)
After I added the fastConnectionFailoverEnabled property to the connection pool,
my container will not start and gives me the following error:
The following topology members could not be restarted due to errors:
* OC4J ADSPL in Application Server appserver.ydoraias1.corp.ad.awiweb.com
due to the following error:
o 0 of 1 processes restarted.
Trying to access the container from the OEM console gives me this error:
Unable to login to the OC4J "ADSPL" on Application Server "appservername". The version of this OC4J is not supported.
I have not found anything in the log files to determine the problem.
here's the data source xml
<?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8'?>
<data-sources xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="http://xmlns.oracle.com/oracleas/schema/data-sources-10_1.xsd" schema-major-version="10" schema-minor-version="1">

<property name="fastConnectionFailoverEnabled" value="true"/>
</connection-factory>
</connection-pool>
</data-sources>

I think you also need to set this additional property:
<property name="connectionCachingEnabled" value="true"/>
<property name="fastConnectionFailoverEnabled" value="true"/>
Below is a data-sources entry from a file I have used recently:

<connection-pool name="RACDB" initial-limit="10" max-connections="30" min-connections="10">

<property name="fastConnectionFailoverEnabled" value="true"/>

  • Questions on Client Failver and Fast Failover

    've few questions regarding Client Failover and Fast Faiolver of Oracle Database HA. Before I ask those questions I would like to explain my environment. Below are the details.
    - We have two physical locations called 'ABC' and 'PQR'
    - ABC is the primary site.
    - PQR is the standby site.
    - In ABC, we have Oracle RAC database (11.2.0.2) with two nodes.
    - In PQR, we have a single server standalone database (11.2.0.2) with ASM. This is not a RAC.
    - Data Guard has been configured between ABC and PQR and it is working as expected.
    - Please note that we have a licence for Active Data Guard.
    - We have Oracle Identity Management products at both ABC and PQR and they are going to use RAC database as a primary database which is in ABC.
    - We did not configure Data Guard broker yet.
    We want to achieve below goals:
    Goal 1:
    Whenever RAC primary goes down completely, standby database should become primary database AUTOMATICALLY and it should allow read/write operation.
    I guess this is called 'Fast Failover'. Please let me know if I am wrong.
    Questions :
    - To make this happen, Do I need to configure Data Guard Broker so that standy database becomes primary when RAC goes down completely with planned or unplanned outage.
    - Let's say RAC goes down completely, how long does Data Guard broker take to make standby db as Primary.
    - What about the client/application who already connected to RAC.
    - Let's standby DB has become as primary and after sometime if RAC comes back , Does data guard automatically changes the role of RAC to primary ?
    Goal 2:
    As I explained above, all Oracle IDM products and applications speak to RAC database they only know about RAC database which is primary.They are not aware of standby database.
    - Whenever a client session is in progress with RAC primary database, if RAC goes down completely , we would like to expect client session should get transferred standby datbase without loosing session information . However before this happens, standby database should become primary becuase client session may perform write operations.
    - Whenever a client is trying to connect to RAC prmary and assume RAC is completely down, we would like to expect client connections should get transferred to standby database.
    However before this happens, standby database should become primary becuase client session may perform write operations.
    As per my knowledge, above scenarios are called 'client failver'. Please let me know if I am wrong.
    Questions:
    1. Please throw some light to achieve above features.
    2. As per my understanding, before client failover happens, fast failover should have already occured and standby should get switch to primary role. I guess all this happens through TIMEOUT parameters. What are those.
    Could you please help ?
    Thanks

  • .Mac iDisk syncing preventing reliable Restarts/Shut Downs in Leopard

    I have been experiencing a Restart/Shut Down reliability issue with my new iMac and Leopard 10.5.1. This evening an Apple rep I know pointed me to a work-around in Apple Discussions:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5957261&#5957261
    This thread notes the discovery by one user that iDisk automatic syncing is not working reliably, and is preventing consistent restarting/shutting down of your Mac. Although, syncing has been working reliably for me both for .Mac stuff, and the iDisk itself, if you do a Get Info on your iDisk it reports, at least for me, that its capacity is 1TB, with 466GB available. I have only the standard 10GB .Mac account, and only 5GB of that is allocated to my iDisk, so something is clearly amiss with the .Mac iDisk setup, as being reported from the .Mac server. If you check your Console logs, you may also see this recurring error message, which is reporting a syncing error, although my syncs have, as I've said, been working correctly:
    11/25/07 9:11 PM FileSyncAgent192 MKCOL /.FileSync (FAILED), httpStatusCode:405, errorType:100, transactionState:5, txnId:3846B904-9ABB-40E5-9928-B9233FAC05D2, auto-retries=0, manual-retries=0
    To summarize, if you turn off automatic iDisk syncing in your System Preferences/.Mac/iDisk preference pane, you'll have no problems restarting/shutting down. You may also need to do the power management reset (turn off Mac, unplug all devices and power for 15 seconds, reconnect, and start up) and the parameter RAM reset (reboot while holding down the cmd-opt-P-R keys). You can do this in one restart cycle, if you like. After that, restarts/shutting down has worked perfectly for me.
    Of course, I actually USE my iDisk, and will be leaving it on. But, at least I know now how to work around the restart/shut down issue.
    I hope Apple adds this fix to their 10.5.2 update next month.
    Note: This is such an important issue, that in addition to adding it to a reply in another Shut Down thread, I thought I'd post it as a separate topic here.

    MacOS X updates have resolved this issue.

  • What is property that contains the pass/fail status(UUT Result) of my main sequence ?

    Test Engineering
    Empower RF Systems Inc.

    Hi Mal,
    In general, in TestStand you use a step type that can use the Sequence Adapter in order to call a sequence (named subsequence in this context). The MainSequence is called from within the ProcessModel execution entry-points ('Test UUTs' and 'Single Pass' sequences in the TestStandModel.seq) when you launch the execution from "Execute->Test UUTs" or "Execute->Single Pass" menu or directly by the engine when you start an Interactive execution by selecting "Execute->Run MainSequence" menu option.
    In the first case, after the sequence call step executes, the Sequence Adapter can set the step status. So, finally the property that contains the status of Main Sequence is a subproperty of the SequenceCall step that in the ProcessModel execution entry-points is named "MainSeque
    nce Callback". The lookup string for this property depends from where you want to access it. For example :
    a) if it's from a step you add as part of the Execution entry-points customization, then the lookup string for the property should be "RunState.Sequence.Main["MainSequence Callback"].Result.Status"
    b) if it's from a step in the MainSequence, then the lookup string for the property should be "RunState.Caller.RunState.Sequence.Main["MainSequence Callback"].Result.Status" but special consideration should be taken if the MainSequence is run in Interactive mode, since the "RunState.Caller" property doesn't exist in this case.
    In the second case the sequence status isn't available (see above).

    I was able to reproduce this issue in the beta also. The issue has since been fixed. For the time being, it looks like you can just clear (delete) that particular value and re-add it w/ the updated binary.

  • Keynote preventing logout/restart

    I'm running Keynote (5.2) as a display kiosk on a MacMini running 10.7.4.  I have the mini set to start up every day at 8:15 AM and shut down at 5:15 PM.  The Mini isn't shutting down at the desired time beacause Keynote is preventing the logout (gives a message saying as much and suggests to force quit, which isn't necessary).  So, every morning, I need to manually restart the Mini, rendering this exercise in automation moot.  Any suggestions as to how to get this to work?  It worked fine in 10.6.8 and this problem only started after upgrading to 10.7.4.

    BTW: 10.6.2 update should address this problem....
    I've installed it - now i'll wait and see...

  • - Sort on a property which contains muliple data values  -

    Hi All,
    I need to sort on a item property p_x which has the data productid1:SortNo1# productid2:SortNo2# etc..
    So basically if the user is in productid1 page , then I need to extract the Sortno corresponding to productid1 from
    p_x . I know it is doable in Java API.
    But I am thinking is there any solution like stratify I can use in Ns parameter? [first split by # , then split by :]

    Hi ,
    My answer given below
    - What does the "x" signify in "p_x"?
    p_x is just a property.
    - How many of these properties are there?
    There is only one property p_x which is tied to an item
    - How many key/value pairs are there packed in this property?
    Unlimited and the format of data for p_x -> productid1 : sort id #productid2 : sort id etc
    - Are these properties on the products that "productid" references, or are these properties (productid1:sortNo1 etc.) on some kind of meta-data that you are reading in separately to the products?
    p_x is a property of item which gives sort order no based on product it belongs to .
    - What is the use case for this? There may be easier ways to achieve the result you are looking for (possibly via Experience Manager, or a simple record filter and application-side sorting)
    If the user browse a product page , i need to sort items based on p_x.

I tried restarting several times with the same result. Help!

    The internal drive is malfunctioning, or you have some other hardware fault.
    Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
    Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

    Hi. I am trying to restart my macbook air. but getting the following popup : "The application Mail cancelled shut down. To try again, quit Mail & chose Aplle menu > Shut down"
    Problem: I dont seem to be able to quit Mail. "Quit Mail" in the menu is grey. Also, I can seem to open Mail & see my mails.
    This problem started to showup after I downloaded & installed Thunderbird as a mail software.
    Could somebody advie.

    To make Mail quit you'll need to perform a forced quit or, failing that, a forced shutdown.
    When an application won't quit you can hold the Command and Option keys together and then type the ESC key. This (usually) brings up a dialog with all the running applications. Select the offending program and click the Force Quit button.
    If this doesn't force the application to quit (quite rare) or if you cannot get the Force Quit Dialog to pop up, hold the power button for about 10 seconds to shut down the entire computer. This should be a last resort but sometimes is necessary.

  • Prevent Container Delete Access

    I have an application Im writing that will store all of the files for it in the azure storage account. I would like to be able to create an account access code, that gives Read, Write, and List permissions to a container, but no delete permissions, is this
    possible?
    I have thought about possibly generating a Shared Access Signature, for say 200 years in the future with Read, Write, and List permissions, but I think by doing this I wouldnt be able to leverage the .NET Azure SDK.
    I have also thought about a Storage Access Policy that doesnt allow deletes, only Read, Write and List, but if Im using the main account key and send a delete over, I would think that overrides the Storage Access Policy and the container and blobs would
    be gone.
    The reason for this is containers are extremely easy to delete and with the files only being stored on a company account, not a personal account, if the container is deleted and we lose all of those files, we are boned; so that is not an option.

    I have tried doing that but running into some trouble. I want to use the my account name and key to generate a Shared Access Signature to a container that allows read, list, update/create permissions. I then want to be able to use the SDK with this Shared
    Access Signatures to generate new Shared Access Signature to blobs within the container it has permissions to. My tests with the client using the first Shared Access Signature allowed me to upload files to the container, but would fail when creating new Shared
    Access Signature to objects within the container "Error - "Cannot create Shared Access Signature unless Account Key credentials are used."
    Im really just looking for a way to now allow a user or similar term to delete objects from the azure storage account. The ease at which you can delete a container and all of the blobs within it it far too scary. Plus I have no seen any azure options for
    backing up entire containers and being able to restore them. If you know of a way to back up objects in azure that would allow me to restore them if a developer accidentally deleted a blob or entire container, please share. Amazons S3 service looks like you
    are not allowed to delete a bucket/container if it has objects/blobs within it, which would be awesome for Azure, but I dont see that option.
    The best option would be if I have the ability to create a "user" with an account key that would do all of the uploading, reading and listing for my application, and then if I ever have to delete something, I would use the main account to handle
    that (this would be a rare occasion).

  • The 'Name' property cannot contain any of the following characters

    Hello,
    I'm still suffering with OData requests:
    This URL works fine on the English version of my Project online:
    https://myserver.sharepoint.com/sites/pwa2/_api/ProjectData/Issues()?$filter=Status eq '(1) Active'&$select=ProjectId,IssueId,Title,Discussion,Resolution,Owner,DueDate
    So I tried to translate it to the French one but even the short syntax returns an error :
    https://myserver.sharepoint.com/sites/pwa/_api/ProjectData/Problèmes()?$filter=Statut eq '(1) Actif'
    NB: If I remove the filter, the connection works fine.
    What is the  'Name' property which dislikes some characters ?
    Thanks

    Hello,
    so far as I know, the installation language from Project Online is always English. In the Online Tenant you merely select the required language pack. In your case, the problem lies in the term "Problèmes" which has the illegal character "grave accent".
    Therefore, also in a French Project Online Tenant use for OData the English terms. That should work.
    Best regards

  • Will UPSupply prevent Random Restarts?

    Have had random shutdowns and restarts since August 2008-
    I-Mac Intel Core Duo early 2006-
    It has been in repair shops 5 times - logic board, powersupply , optical cable ram
    checked, (all under warranty) Erase and Install
    They were never able to duplicate problem -
    They are saying it is probably due to my electric in house -
    Had the power company check - nothing wrong from cable running into house
    Would an electrician be able to put something on outlets in my house to check if the electric is spiking?
    I have no other problems with anything electric in my house-no dimming of lights -everthing electric running fine.
    The Poweer company said my electric is probably fine -
    Any advice would be appreciated. My warranty has finally run out.
    This is an intermittent problem -it can happen once a week, every 3 days etc.
    No rhyme or reason.

    Hi,
    As others stated, it can be difficult to chase it down, especially if it is not reproducible. Here are some thoughts:
    It could be the powersupply in your iMac. I had a similar behaviour recently, and it turned out to be a bad capacitor in the PSU. Without sufficient caps, the 3 V line was not stable enough causing the iMac to switch off. NOTE: this was a G5 iMAc from 2005, when Apple had (generic) problems with the PSU and LB due to bad capacitors. ((( I had opened the PSU and could see the bad caps. But don't open you iMac if it is still under warranty!!)))
    It might be interesting to set your preferences to NOT to restart automatically after power failure (in System Prefs->Energy). Perhaps this makes a difference...
    It could be that the supply voltage (220 or 110 V) changes when an appliance in your house (or even from your neighbours) kicks in. This can cause a short instability in the low-voltage the PSU is supposed to deliver, which in turn starts the restart. You might want to do two things:
    a) try to make sure that no other (heavy) appliance is on the same line as your iMac (a house usually has at least 3 different lines).
    b) try to identify if a given appliance starts just at the moment when your iMac restarts...
    I know, it's a nuisance, and difficult to solve.
    Please report back. if i have new ideas, i'll tell you.

    I'm getting a similar crash message when I run su.  It errs this way only the first time I run it, however.  The second su works:

  • Imac-- Upgrading elements 10 to elements 12. Did successful backup of 10.  When restore to 12 message said the disk in drive My Passport for Mac does not contain a valid backup

    IIMac      doing upgrade of Elements 10 to Elementys 12.  Did full backup of 10 on my external hard drive "MY Passport".  Rec'd message backup successful.  Did restore on 12 and rec'd message "The disk in drive My Passport for Mac does not contain a valid backup".  Any help suggestions?

    The funniest part of the whole situation, Apple Care explained it to me as some kind of feature. The told me how to adjust the time when my computer sleeps and recommend I don't shut it down, let it sleep and "instant wake". I would bet if you called them about your Macbook, they would suggest you just close the lid and let it sleep rather than shutting it down.
    Basically shutdown and restart have a problem and the solution is to not shutdown is how they explained it to me. They kept saying buzz words like "instant on" and "fast wakeup". My computer already could sleep and wakeup fast, but now shutdown and restart don't work right. I called them 3 times about it, but since they use these buzzwords, sounds like Lion is meant for a Macbook Air or a Mac with an SSD. If you have a normal hard disk, some of the saving/versions/resume features take too long to be written to the disk on shutdown. And when you start again, it takes a long time to reload the system to it's previous point.
    Even if I uncheck the box to reopen windows on next start, it reopens them anyways.
    If they can't give me a better explaination or some kind of fix, I will have to go back to Snow Leopard. I use my Mac in a production environment and depend on stability. They assured me before I upgraded that it would be stable and all the new saving and versions features could help my productivity. So far it's not helping me and downright annoying. You need to close all your windows before you close the program... if you have 5 windows open in terminal or textedit... every time you launch, they will launch all those windows. I just really want versions, not resume it seems.
    But I can deal with it opening a million windows, just can't take it getting stuck on booting or not shutting down properly. This is a "feature" that should be fixed. LOL
