Faster running time or making our Vi faster

Hello,
We are communicating with 4 RGB lights using a DMX usb interface and we have attached picture of the Vi in which we are working. Our Vi works as we want (on/off state with different colors) but the problem we have is the time. The running takes a lot of time and the transition from one modé to the other is very slow and not so efficient.
First of all,do you think that using arrays or Visa makes our Vi slower or it doesnt affect so much?
Secondly, is there any way to reduce the time (for example by using another structure or wiring) or it wont make any difference?
Here is the link of our project in order to understand the whole concept.
http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/LabView-using-Visa-and-USB-interface-to-program-lighs/m-p/2842422#U2...
Images of front panel and blog diagram for the LED1 is attached below (The system works on the same way for the rest of the 3 lights).
Any replies will be helpful.
Thank you in advance.

Then you must be using a while loop instead of the Run Continously mode. When you do it this way, you are configuring the serial port everytime which will certainly taken time. Use a while loop, before entering the loop configure the VISA session and then do the operation inside the loop and switch to different modes by using case structure. Take some LabVIEW basic tutorials which will help you to understand how LabVIEW works.
The best solution is the one you find it by yourself

  • ADF run-time error in 10.1.2 - worked fine in 9.5.1, and 9.5.2

We recently upgraded to JDev 10.1.2 from 9.5.2. We had a web application (Struts/ADF BC) that we had developed with 9.5.1 and has been in production for 5 months now.
We want to upgrade the ADF run-time libraries on our production server to the 10.1.2 libaries because they fix the one bug that we are having (bind variable gets dropped when app module is passivated). Before we deployed the app to the application server, we thought we should recompile it with Jdev 10.1.2 and deploy to a test container running the 10.1.2 ADF libraires.
We opened this application workspace in 10.1.2 and Jdev asked if we wanted to migrate and we said yes. We compiled the app and then ran it in the Jdev embedded container and we ran it in the stand-alone container that ships with Jdev and we got the following error in both cases. The page that it is failing on uses a tree binding. There is one other place in the application where we use a tree binding and it fails there also. Everything else works just fine in the app.
Is there a bug with tree binding in 10.1.2? Can anyone give me help with this?
The following stack trace resulted from the page that has the tree binding on it.

You need to download the Java SDK for your apropriate operating system and install it as per the instructions from the provider. So, for example, with Windows you go to the Sun web site, download SDK 1..4 and then run the setup script.

  • SQL Trace(ST05) and Run Time Analysys(SE30)

    Hi ABAP Experts,
Can any one explain what is the use of
    1) ST05 and
    2) SE30
ponits will be given for clear cut explanation
    Thanks and Regards
    Vijaya

    Hi,
The SQL Trace part of the Performance Trace tool allows you to see how the OPEN SQL statements that you use in ABAP programs are converted to standard SQL statements (see Embedded SQL) and the parameters with which the embedded SQL statements are passed to the database system.
    Overview
From the time you turn on the trace function to the time you turn it off again, all database activity occurring either for a specific user or for an entire system is recorded. The SAP System takes OPEN SQL statements and converts them in to embedded SQL statements that it passes to the database and makes the results available. The embedded SQL statement and its parameters are recorded in the SQL Trace file. The results of the SQL statement, like return code, number of entries retrieved, inserted, or deleted by the database are recorded in the SQL Trace file as well. The log file also contains the runtime of the statement and the place in the application program, respectively transaction, from which it was called which enables additional analyses (supported by the SQL Trace function).
From the recorded SQL trace you can deduce:
    ·        which SQL statements your application carries out
    ·        which values the system uses for specific database accesses and changes
    ·        how the system translates ABAP OPEN SQL commands (such as SELECT) into standard SQL commands
    ·        where your application positions COMMIT statements
    ·        where your application makes repeated database accesses
    ·        what database accesses or changes occur in the update section of your application
Create a Trace (SQL Server Profiler)
    To create a trace
On the File menu, click New Trace, and connect to an instance of SQL Server.
The Trace Properties dialog box appears.
    Note:
The Trace Properties dialog box fails to appear, and the trace begins instead, if Start tracing immediately after making connection is selected. To turn off this setting, on the Tools menu, click Options, and clear the Start tracing immediately after making connection check box.
In the Trace name box, type a name for the trace.
In the Use the template list, select a trace template on which to base the trace, or select Blank if you do not want to use a template.
To save the trace results, do one of the following:
Click Save to file to capture the trace to a file. Specify a value for Set maximum file size. The default value is 5 megabytes (MB).
Optionally, select Enable file rollover to automatically create new files when the maximum file size is reached. You can also optionally select Server processes trace data, which causes the service that is running the trace to process trace data instead of the client application. When the server processes trace data, no events are skipped even under stress conditions, but server performance may be affected.
Click Save to table to capture the trace to a database table.
Optionally, click Set maximum rows, and specify a value.
    Caution:
When you do not save the trace results to a file or table, you can view the trace while SQL Server Profiler is open. However, you lose the trace results after you stop the trace and close SQL Server Profiler. To avoid losing the trace results in this way, click Save on the File menu to save the results before you close SQL Server Profiler.
Optionally, select the Enable trace stop time check box, and specify a stop date and time.
To add or remove events, data columns or filters, click the Events Selection tab. For more information, see: How to: Specify Events and Data Columns for a Trace File (SQL Server Profiler)
Click Run to start the trace.
    Runtime analysis:
se30 is the tcode for run time analysis, is a tool it
display report based on lps for abap pragram execution
time , data base load, system load. these are all will
display in micro seconds.this tool will use for Transaction
code, function modules , abap progrmes
In Transaction SE30, fill in the transaction name or the program name which needs to be analyzed for performance tuning.
For our case, let this be “ZABAP_PERF_TUNING”
After giving the required inputs to the program, execute it. After the final output list has been displayed, PRESS the “BACK” button.
On the original SE30 screen, now click on “ANALYZE” button.
The percentage across each of the areas ABAP/ Database/System shows the percentage of total time used for those areas and load on these areas while running the program . The lesser the database load faster the program runs.

  • VISA Write differs between TS Development System and LV Run-Time Engine

    Hi all
I made an application on LabVIEW to test BERs (Bit Error Rates), and I used VISA Write between two COM ports to exchange data.
Everything works fine using just LabVIEW.
Afterwards, I used TestStand to call my application (VI). The LabVIEW adapters from TestStand were set to Development System by default, and everything works OK!!
Finally, I needed to disable the development system, and set the LabVIEW adapters from TestStand to LabVIEW Run-Time Engine and I notice that the speed of the data exchange between the two COM ports decreased dramatically.
The only difference was the speed...because all the data (changed slowly in this case) arrived correctly on the other COM port too.
The symptom was the same as decreasing the baud rate...but the baud rate and all the other configurations remained the same. The only difference was the change between Develpment System to Run-Time Engine to notice this decreased speed between the exchanged data using VISA Write.
    Any solutions for this?
    Thanks in advance
    Joao
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Joao,
you state that using the LV Developement System as execution platform for your LV code modules result in faster datatransfer between the COM ports than using the LV Run-Time Engine.
So i am pondering: Does this refer to TS at all?
    Please check the following:
Run you communication using a sole LV application in LV Developement System. This should be fast. Now build an executable of this application and run that one. Do you see the same behavior?
If there is no difference in a sole LV approach, there have to be some settings in the TS approach making this slow. So please let us know:
Are there different modules involved in that data transfer (which in fact points to the reply Christophe made)?
What about loading/unloading options of the modules?
How big is the hierarchy of the modules, e.g. is it necessary for the RTE to load stuff the Dev Env has already in memory due to loading a lvproj.......?
Could you provide a simple example sequence+modules showing this behavior?
What versions of LV and TS are you using?
    hope this helps,

Hi every onewhen I use Crystal Reports 9 or 10 I can Generate Reports and view at run time without I need to save it but now with  Crystal Reports2008 I can not do that , If anyone know how to make that in  Crystal Reports2008 please replythanks

    Ki Klassal,
For user simulation you could use a tool such as LoadRunner, this would enable you to action specific tasks i.e.
    User Logons
    Report Refreshes
    Report Schedules
If you run this against "multiple users" you need to pay attention to your use of the WAIT time parameter, i.e. how long the application waits before user clicks, typically 5-7 seconds for the wait time should be sufficient.
SAP does not provide any specific documentation around this type of performance activity, but you could also gather valuable information by using our Remote Support Component tools:

  • Query run time increases with subsequent runs.

    Hello All
I am looking for some hint about if someone else has faced such an issue in OBIEE
We are trying to enhance performance of some OBIEE Analysis reports. Every time we do a change and deploy out changes the report runs very quick like in 40 seconds . Even when I run the physical query in the database it runs quick as well. After few minutes we run the report again it take 10 minutes and then after some time we run it again it takes 20 minutes. It stabilized around 30 minutes.
We thought it needs more tuning. We tried some more, removed outer joins from the RPD, tuned those joins where we are fectching large amounts of data and deployed it again. Again the first time we ran the report it returned results in less than 30 seconds. Ran it again and it took 6 minutes. And again around 9 mins.
Once again the physical SQL is quick too in the database.
The first time we run the report we are happy to see the run time but subsequent runs take so long.
This is a test envt. so there are not huge load on the database. Also currently we dont have any caching enabled but we may do that as well.
I am just curious to see if anyone has faced something like this. I am running out of options on further tuning the views and joins that we are using.  I am not able to think, why the first time we check our reports they run fast and this behavior is so reproducible now.  And every time we start with our changes we delete all presentation layer cache etc.
    Thanks

query caching is primarily a run-time performance improvement capability.and over a period of time, performance tends to improve due to cache hits for more refer this Managing Performance Tuning and Query Caching - 11g Release 1 (11.1.1)

  • Run-time error '429': ActiveX component can't create object

    HI,
I am having the following error in my Excel VBA Run-time error '429': ActiveX component can't create object  when running the following code:
    Dim objDistiller As New ACRODISTXLib.PdfDistiller6
    objDistiller.FileToPDF2 filePath & ".PS", filePath & ".PDF", "T:\Templates\PDFSettings\Standard.joboptions", 1
This code has been working for years on all our systems, but due to recent security issues our administrator changed all user accounts to not have local administrator rights and now when we run this code we get the above error message.
I have had a look at DComcnfg.exe to try and get it to work by setting the default property permissions to allow access by Everyone but I am still getting the error.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards.

    Hi Shane,
Here is another way to create PDF with Macro using another API than Distiller. This API is faster too.
Probably this post is not of interest anymore but here is how I have done it:
    1. Download PDFCreator: http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/
    2. Use the following Macro:
    Option Explicit
    Sub printPDFmacro()
    'Author : Ken Puls (www.excelguru.ca)
'Macro Purpose: Print to PDF file using PDFCreator
    ' (Download from http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/)
' Designed for early bind, set reference to PDFCreator
    Dim pdfjob As PDFCreator.clsPDFCreator
    Dim sPDFName As String
    Dim sPDFPath As String
'/// Change the output file name here! ///
    sPDFName = "Facture-" & nclient2 & " le " & Format(Date, "yyyy-mm-dd") & ".pdf"
    sPDFPath = "E:\Partenaire Scolaire\Comptabilite\Factures"
    PDFFileName2 = sPDFPath & "\" & sPDFName
    Set pdfjob = New PDFCreator.clsPDFCreator
    With pdfjob
    If .cStart("/NoProcessingAtStartup") = False Then
    MsgBox "Can't initialize PDFCreator.", vbCritical + _
    vbOKOnly, "PrtPDFCreator"
    Exit Sub
    End If
    .cOption("UseAutosave") = 1
    .cOption("UseAutosaveDirectory") = 1
    .cOption("AutosaveDirectory") = sPDFPath
    .cOption("AutosaveFilename") = sPDFName
    .cOption("AutosaveFormat") = 0 ' 0 = PDF
    .cClearCache
    End With
    'Print the document to PDF
    ActiveSheet.PrintOut copies:=1, ActivePrinter:="PDFCreator"
'Wait until the print job has entered the print queue
    Do Until pdfjob.cCountOfPrintjobs = 1

  • Automatic run time updates

One of my customers is looking at a method for distributing and updating

    Hi David,
We have almost finished adding the runtime update to one of our existing
tools that might be of interest.
It's a generic client-side updating tool - it updates Forte runtime, Forte
clients, help/ini files and whatever else you need distributed.
Currently, clients must map to a file server where they read a file
containing a "command file" of things to synchronise, install or remove.
The tool is also the starting point for running all Forte client programs
(after checking that everything is up-to-date). Parameters to the program
define the particular application to run and the environment in which to run
    it.
    Other features include:
    * Ability for this tool to update itself.
    * Fast distribution of Forte clients by using compressed files (and not
    relying on Forte's installation services)
    * Audit tracking of which clients have been updated

  • Optimal way to enable user to pick style at run time - Flex

What I'm trying to do: allow a user to be able to select a color palette for a custom component by selecting from a drop down menu with a variety of icons.
I have the drop down menu part down, but I'm trying to understand how to best handle the various styles in my code. Ideally I would have liked to be able to load styles at run time, but I don't see a major advantage with this so I'm now thinking about compiling in all styles. Still, I can't seem to find a decent way to structure the code. Hacking it seems pretty easy / fast, but there's got a better way than having a big fat array of values which can be indexed via some index associated with each icon - yuck!
Would love to hear your thoughts or see any pointers to obvious ways to handle this.
    thank you!

Wouldn't style sheets make this a lot easier where the user essentially just picks one?

  • What's the cost of Labwindows run time engine

    Dear Sir,
I have some questions about CVI and hope you can help me figure it out as usual.
1st, what's the advantage of labwindows against Labview? I know one is C programing environment and the other graphical environment. But the Labview seems more user-friendly.
2nd, What is run-time engine according to your definition? I know Matlab has similar component and is free of charge. Does the run time engine in Labwindows charge? If so, how much?
3rd, Previously, I thought labwindows is used to convert Labview program into C source code which is faster (how fast, compared with labview) and very popular in the industries, so companies do not have to buy labview and run it for just simple application in the field. But if the run time engine costs a lot, I can find no reason to use labwindows.
    Thank you very much!

    1) LabVIEW is a graphical based programming environment and
LabWindows/CVI is a C based programming environment.  Both can be used
for similar tasks.  Users familiar with C may prefer CVI.  LabVIEW is
typically easier to learn if you are unfamiliar with both.
     2)
The Run-Time Engine is a separate component that can be installed to
execute LabWindows/CVI programs and LabVIEW programs.  It is free of
charge for both LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI.
    3)
LabWindows/CVI does not convert any LabVIEW programs into C code.
LabVIEW programs are already compiled as you write them, so you won't
need to convert them to C to use them.  You should see similar
performance in similar LabVIEW and CVI code.

  • Run-time connection load balancing

    Hello!
I'm using jdbc thin client (10g) and I'm trying to improve connection pool management. I would like to enable run-time connection load balancing. Is this option
    available with Fast Connection failover?
Basically when a a client requests a connection from the connection cache by calling the getConnection method on the DataSource object, I want that the connection selected
is the connection that belongs to the best instance from the connection cache. The client receives the connection that would process the work request with the
    best response time.
With run-time connection load balancing ebabled what's happen when new connection is requested? The same algorithm?
    Other question:
Is it possible create a manually process to distribute new connections? Having the following connection string:
    url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@
    (DESCRIPTION=
    (ADDRESS=(protocol=tcp)(host=192.168.12.17)(port=1521))
    (ADDRESS=(protocol=tcp)(host=192.168.12.18)(port=1521))
    (load_balance=on)
    (connect_data=(service_name=EHR)))"
In a specific moment I want that new connections only will be created in a specific instance... How can I do this? P.e.
Connection POOL has 10 connections (5 in each instance). All sessions are active and a new session needs to be created. At this moment I want to decide wich instance
is the best to attend the request...
    Thanks a lot
    Best Regards

Hi, there are several questions here. So, let me try to answer some, and I could address more if you have further questions. I am also presuming you are using JDBC driver's
    colocated Implicit connection cache.
    1) Yes, you need to enable FCF on the pool to leverage RCLB. Note, there are
no specific knobs for RCLB on the client side, only the RAC / DB side which requires
LBA to be enabled (this is documented in the RAC clusterware admin guide)
    2) When LBA is enabled on RAC/DB, RAC starts posting FaN events to the pool.
This enables the pool to pick the best connection to an instance with the best
service response time or throughput -- depending on how LBA was enabled.
    3) When new connections are created, the pool relies on the DB listener to place/create
the connections on the appropriate RAC instance -- this depends on the LBA goal you
set, and is required to be set to "short"
    4) The pool currently does not have the ability to create a conn to a named instance.
What's the requirement or use case for this? If we understand this better, perhaps
we could address this. How do "you" decide which is the best instance to connect?

  • Can I load pictures for a picture ring control at run time?

    Hi all,
is there a way to achieve the above mentioned behaviour? Changing the graphics elements of a picture ring control or indicator at run time?
    Best regards,
    Matthias
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can do that with the picture indicator.  I have written a slide show program in LV and it works quite smoothly.  If you start to see delays, it is probably due to file read time rather than the display.  Read one or two files from disk ahead of when you will want to display them.  Updating the display from memory should be fast.

  • How do i measure my each blocks running time

    Hi, guys
I am going to measure my each major blocks running time, the are totally five major blocks in my final VI, the last four of them were in a while loop
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

What exactly do you mean by a "block"?  Is it a subVI, LabVIEW primitive, some chunk of LabVIEW code?
You can use multiple Tick Count functions.  If you place your code in a flat sequence structure with Tick counts in frames in between, you can subtract values from each other and get the relative time of each piece of code.
Why are you worried about the execution time?  Are you having particular timing problems?  Most LabVIEW primitives will run so fast, you'll probably see no or very little change in the tick count before and after them.
Here is an example to show how to measure the execution time for one section of code.

  • SAP Gui 6.40 BeX Analyser problem (Run Time Error)

    Dear All
    Really need some help
We get the following error in EXCEL 2003 when running transaction rrmx from SAP easy access:
Run time error 91 Object variable or with block variable not set
When debugging we get the following error message:
    call pAddin.SetConnectionFromHandle(p_connectionObj).
We've rolled out the same package globally to all our users, some machines have this problem and some don't - which has been making this very difficult to resolve and troubleshoot.
We've tried patch level 29 of the GUI and this did not resolve.
I've read lots of threads relating to the .net framework and made sure all the service packs are installed, and also tried .net framework 2.0 and 3.0 - the problem still existed with both.
I'm really stuck and appreciate any guidance.
If we manually launch Analyzer (SAP BW 3.x) from the start menu, EXCEL and the BW add-in works fine... we only get the run time error when using transaction rrmx from SAP GUI.
    Please help!
    Thanks.

OK, so I've done the following - which DID work and i no longer get the RUN TIME error:
    -uninstalled SAPGUI
    -uninstalled Office 2003
-uninstalled all .net framework versions + updates.
-install .net framework 2.0 with SP1
    -install microsoft office 2003 + SP3
install sap gui 6.40 + patch level 29
However, if anyone out there has got an easier and quicker solution to this problem I'd REALLY appreciate it. I have got lots of our users with this problem and it took a long time to complete all the steps above.. there must be something easier to do to fix this...
    thanks for your help
