Favicon and Apple-touch-icon on a person domain.

I've just set up Zyber17.com and I was wondering how to set up a favicon and an apple-touch-icon, any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm sure this has been answered before...
Facts (in case it makes a difference):
-I registered with 1and1
-I'm using it as a personal domain inside of the MobileMe settings (which means I changed the CNAME on my 1and1 control panel)
-I don't mind tinkering with HTML, and JavaScript.
Thanks in advance!

As long as you don't have domain name masking you can use the method described in Old Toad's Tutorial #22 - Adding a Favicon to Your Web Site. If you're not publishing to MobileMe just pic a different location for the favicon to reside and link to it there.

  • Apple Touch Icon

    Hey
I create our Company website with Adobe muse, a desktop Version and a mobile Version.
Now I wan't to save my mobile Version on my iPhone, that works but the Icon on the iPhone looks bad.
So here is my question, can I create an Apple Touch Icon with adobe muse? If so, how get it?
    Thanks Marco

    Hi Marco,
Did you try to add a Favicon icon for your site and then save the shortcut on your desktop. To see how to add favicon, check this video

  • Favicon and Webclip Icon for iPhone

Is there anyway to incorporate a favicon and a webclip icon (for iPhones) using iWeb '08?
I host to my .Mac account, domain from GoDaddy (CNAME) to my .Mac website.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have!

You add the favicon code in the HEAD of the webpage.
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="/YourdotMacID/apple-touch-icon.png" />
You'll have to open the page with a HTML editor of your choice.
    You can use TextEdit.

  • .Mac 'Personal Domain' and Aperture Galleries?

    hi all.
I have a personal domain www.gregory.hk and I've arranged with my DNS guys to set up a subdomain gallery.gregory.hk with the CNAME pointing to web.mac.com
I'm getting two impressions from searches I've done on Apple:
    1. personal domains only apply to .Web and not to Galleries.
    2. personal domains must be a 'www' subdomain; i.e., the subdomain must be www[.mySub].myDomain.hk
    So, the questions:
has anyone created galleries with Aperture and sent them to their personal domain?
has anyone been able to use a personal domain that doesn't include the www sub? after all, all that really matters is that requests to web.mac.com are via Port 80... right?
    cheers,
    Gregory

    great answer. thank you.
although the .Mac galleries have a slick interface (and Aperture only uploads new/edited photos), I have a few problems with the .Mac galleries:
the url shows your mac.com user name! I like to keep my @mac.com address secret so that's a big problem.
    no comments?
very limited space (and not customisable) for album descriptions.
no captions? (or am I blind and miss it?)
I want to have a slick gallery that can be configured/populated from Aperture, and preferably be styled/coded to match my MT4 blog (I'm working on a new version of my blog at this time...).
mac.com was a consideration because my .Mac subscription includes the storage/bandwidth and it's just sitting there not getting used.
SmugMug Photo is another consideration but I'm a little concerned about the work needed to (a) simplify the interface and (b) match it up with my blog design. (I don't like cluttered album designs. here's one of my own hand-designed albums for reference.)
for the record, I'm handy with xhtml and css.
suggestions, input and opinions would be welcomed.
    sincerely,
    Gregory

  • Two websites-one with .Mac and one with .Mac using personal domain

Good Day All! I know I asked this before but I think the question got wrapped in with another and I don't see that it has been answered. If I overlooked it I apologize for the duplicate post.
I have a .Mac subscription with one published website already. I am working on another website now in iWeb but I want to publish it using a personal domain name. Can I do this? If so, can I keep them from being linked together?? Does that make sense? Thanks! quinlis

    Aloha,
if you use CNAME both sites will be reachable using either the CNAME or the web.mac.com/username/ address
if you use Webforwarding entering the personal domain will get to the site you pointed the domain to
but that site will also be reachable through web.mac.com/username/sitename/
I'd recommend you to use webforward with cloaking/masking/framing in your case. Thus the site you want to have the personal domain for will show the personal domain in the browser and will also be reachable through web.mac.com/username/sitename/ but your other website will not be reachable through your personal domain.
Note that using masking google will not index the content of your pages using your personal domain if you're interested in that.
Have a look at the following page for further information on setup and knowing what's CNAME, Febforward, Webforward with cloaking
    http://alyeska.altervista.org/en/iWeb_Domains.html
I guess the best way would be having a family account or two .mac accounts so you can set it up as CNAME and your other site would be published to another account or sub-account and thus not reachable using your personal domain.
    Regards,
    Cédric

  • Personal Domain doesn't work properly: Forced to type "www".

    Hey,
Recently upgraded to iLife '08 specifically for the Personal Domain feature.
I followed the steps and got it to use my domain name from Register.com.
The problem is, it only works if I type 'www' as part of the URL. Otherwise I get this error:
+"This domain is not configured for this service. Please contact the webmaster to have it enabled."+
As we all know, almost nobody actually types 'www' anymore (example 'apple.com' and not 'www.apple.com'). So the Personal Domain is actually rather useless since 90% of the people typing in my URL will get an error.
I already contacted Register.com and they suggested a paid forwarding service, which defeats the whole point of iWeb's Personal Domain. The other suggestion was to get, I think, my .Mac home page's IP address. This could be forwarded for free. However I don't know how to get that.
Should I track down tech support at Apple?
Has anyone ran into the same limitation?
    Thanks in advance.

Well I did precisely that over a month ago.
BTW My domain name is aristomenis.com, and I do not use .mac for email.
As the CNAME, I already have "*" and "www" pointing to web.mac.com. Below is a representation of how I filled out the form a Register.com, where "{ }" represents the text fields I have access to:
    {*}.aristomenis.com points to {web.mac.com}
    {www}.aristomenis.com points to {web.mac.com}
    {ftp}.aristomenis.com points to {aristomenis.com}
Register.com will not allow me to put "@" (or alternately nothing) in the field preceding aristomenis.com. Every time I try that an error page comes up saying "there is an error updating Zone records".
As you can see above, Register.com forces ".aristomenis.com" right after the alias field, which leads me to believe that a "." (a.k.a a period) must precede aristomenis.com to make a typed-in URL work.
For example, in my browser's address bar I can type in almost anything plus '.aristomenis.com' and it'll point to my .Mac site. However aristomenis.com without a period before doesn't work.
What am I missing? I spent an hour with Register.com's tech support and I'm pretty sure I filled out everything exactly as needed on their side. Utimately they said I need to contact Apple to get an IP address for my .Mac page and maybe we can Register.com can help me link it with a free version of their forwarding service.
Please help. I really don't see how iWeb's Personal Domain feature doesn't actually work properly. Especially with such a large registrar as Register.com.
    Again thanks in advance.

  • Personal Domain Names in iWeb/MobileMe?

Why is it that MobileMe will now not accept UK domain names? I have a .co.uk domain name and can no longer use it with the new MMe.
When I first started to use iWeb and .Mac I purchased a UK domain name and had it entered in the personal domain name section and .Mac accepted it with no problem at all and I had my site redirected using the CNAME option for a long time.
Now .Mac has become MobileMe, it will no longer accept UK domain names, only domains ending in .com, .net, .org etc. Due to this, I can no longer use the personal domain name option of my MMe account and I did not want to re-direct to my domain using web forwarding so have had to publish my site to a folder and ftp up to my host server space. Now I don't mind doing this, as it does not take that long and the whole site loads more quickly anyway, but I would just like to know why MMe does not now accept UK domain names now when .Mac always used to?
This is irritating because it means that I am not able to use my MMe account to the full and as I live and work in the UK it did seem more appropriate to purchase a UK domain name rather than a .com or a .net.
Perhaps Apple should look at this again, as not accepting UK domain names excludes a lot of British users!!

What the heck is wrong with some people on this site! The guy was simply asking for advice!
I got a similar snotty reply from someone in a post I made in which I was simply asking for advice from other users.
I thought this was a SUPPORT Forum? Sheesh!
Anyway, I am glad that Ethmoid posted about MobileMe and the problem with it and .co.uk domains. I was thinking of signing up to MobileMe and using iWeb for my blog and having it redirected to a .ie domain. But if this problem keeps up then it looks like I won't.
    Happy happy forum!

  • Mistaken personal domain name, how do I change it?

I am using iWeb iLife 08, and have my own .mac account.
I am trying to set up my own personal web name for my iWeb account, which I have purchased through GoDaddy. I entered the name, or what I thought was the correct name (wrong by 1 letter) and submitted this name, I am now only being offered the option to continue with this incorrect name.
How do I go back one step and change the name of my personal domain for my iWeb?
    many thanks

I don't think you can easily do change ownership of your MBA.
The Mac App Store doesn't allow you to transfer ownership of the applications asociated with your MBA to a new owner.
You may have to contact Apple to resolve this for you.
Maybe someone on the forum has more information for you.
This discusion may be of interest.

  • Can't connect to personal domain since iLife upgrade

I would REALLy appreciate any direction here
I have a site - www.askkaty2write.com - which I give clients to see my writing samples. I upgraded it iLife09 yesterday and now cannot connect to my personal domain. I get the "Looking for something on Mobile Me" error page. I am totally freaking out.
I phoned Godaddy, who told me that the domain name is still pointed to the mobileme servers, and really, all that has changed in 24 hours is the upgrade, so it must lie within Apple. I used the online tech support but literally got no where - two different tech people who couldn't help at all.
Any type of direction would be so very appreciated. thank you!!

You use URL forwarding to this page that does not exist :
    http://web.me.com/katykrassner/Site3/The_WriteStuff.html
Your default page in Site_3 is :
    http://web.me.com/katykrassner/Site3/Ask_Katy_2Write.html
Perhaps using only the Sitename will get you out of trouble when you change/delete pages.:
    http://web.me.com/katykrassner/Site_3/
If you change/delete the Sitename you will get the same problem.
One can avoid this kind of "problems" by simple paying attention to what one does, and remember it.

  • Personal Domain Questions

I'm sure this has been answered but I can't find the answer with search...
    1. After setting up a personal domain with iWeb is it really publishing the site to your domain requiring you to have a an additional site host? Or is it just interfacing with the domain control to set up forwarding?
    2. I've looked at buying a domain from the Yahoo Small Business site. It looks very cheap, does anyone know of any problems with using Yahoo?
    3. Do Yahoo Domains allow for masking of the .Mac web addresses?
    4. Does anyone have any suggestions for were else to get a Domain name and/or hosting for personal use that doesn't break the bank?
    Thanks, Jason

"Thanks a million for sharing your knowledge! "
Let it be known that I've not technically DONE any of this yet. I'm currently building my second iWeb site, and have not yet activated the personal domain service. Instead of sharing my knowledge, it's more accurate to say I'm sharing my speculations and related anecdotal experiences.
    Okay, disclaimers aside...
Jason- how are the URLs of the individual pages showing up in the address bar when you surf to your site? Do you get 1) "www.mydomain.com" for all pages (this is called URL Masking, I believe), 2) "www.mydomain.com/mysitename" for all pages, 3) "www.mydomain.com/blog.htm" where each page is named accordingly, or 4) "www.mydomain.com/mysitename/blog.htm" which seems almost as unsightly as the original "homepage.mac.com" version of things.
mitsopa- It looks like you're trying to do what I'm after... You've paid for the domain name at the registrar (one company paid). Any good registrar should be able to handle the DNS, CNAME and MX records you need to change to do this. I would NOT pay the registrar for hosting, unless they charge an additional fee to setup and maintain your DNS records for the domain. -- Next, you've paid Apple for a .Mac user account (2 companies paid). I think this is all the paying that needs to be done. Basically, .Mac has or will become your web host, but NOT your eMail host. If you're happy with [email protected] for your eMail address, you're done. If you need [email protected] type eMail addresses, then you have 3 options: a) setup your own eMail server (a Mini with OS X.4 Server is running my eMail for 6 domains currently...) b) Pay another "hosting company" for eMail hosting - most hosting companies sell you web and eMail hosting as a package. Since you're already paying for web hosting at .Mac, this seems like a waste.) c) Find a free eMail service that will, in effect, host your eMail... I'm hearing good things about Google Apps and the eMail service they provide.
Maria- My first intuition is that it's a DNS propagation issue, and a day's wait will make the problem disappear. I have ISPs up here in Alaska that have taken up to 7 days to get the new IPs and cnames up for their users to access when have moved or setup servers in the past. If that's NOT it, start checking in iWeb as far as where you are trying to publish to. I know in this crazy OS X Mac world, you can publish a website at www.mydomain.com, mac.com/myusername, homepage.mac.com/~myusername, as well as server.ip.address.or.domainname and server.ip.address.or.domainname/~username if you've fired up Apache in your local machine. There's also some silliness about Public folders on Macs and publishing websites to them.... it goes on and on. Basically you can "publish" a website to any directory on any computer that's shared, visible to the world, and has a webserver (Apache) running...
MARIONRR- search the iWeb forum for creating or managing or publishing multiple sites using iWeb. I've not tried yet, but from what I read, it's quite difficult to get iWeb to do multiple separate sites. There's an option of multiple .Mac accounts, but I assume you don't want to go there. Also, I don't know how the .Mac servers are set up, but I would imagine they're pulling off this personal domain name service with some sort of symbolic link (alias) that simply points www.mydomain.com to your pages published with dot Mac. What this means (if I'm correct) is that the answer to your question is "no" since you can't publish two different sites to the same directory.... the "index.htm" page for one site will over-write the "index.htm" for the other...
Sorry to ramble. It's been a long day of snow-shoveling here and I reckon I've only got time for this one post tonight...

  • Using a personal domain name

I am trying to use a personal domain name with my iWeb page. I found the directions to do so - it says go to File>Set Up Personal Domain. I am using iWeb 06 and I do not have an option under File (or anywhere else) to "set up personal domain". What am I doing wrong?

I wonder if you could help. I have iWeb 08 and have followed the instructions for personal domain name and its be 4 days now and my page is still loading with the long address. I've contacted .mac about his but nothing yet. Do you know what to do?
Did you purchase a personal name and, at the place where you have it, set the www CNAME to web.mac.com? Or arrange ordinary forwarding?
Could you provide your personal domain name plus the name you gave your site inside the iWeb app?

I changed all the CNAME etc, but when I type in the personal domain in mobile me it says "We are unable to configure domains at this time. Please try again later." Waiting and trying again later doesn't make a difference because I constantly get this message. Has anyone been able to resolve this? Thanks

    - I suspect that he went to Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings.  For 1G or 2G iPod that can take hours and it will likely stall out if not connected to a charging source.
    Try the following:
    - A reset.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - The connect to computer and try to restore via iTunes.
    - Id something is still showing onthe screen, disconnect from computer/charging source and let the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour, Try the reset and restore.
    - If you can turn the iPod off, se if placing the iPod in recovery mode and then restore. For recovey mode:
