FCP Preferences Missing!

Well,
I've been bumping along for the past couple days with rendering issues (described in earlier posts). As the frustration continuted today, I went to trash the FCP preferences. To my surprise, they were not present. I could find the FCP Studio preferences, but not the FCP ones.
So, I decided to reinstall the entire studio package. I hope this clean sweep takes care of everything.
Wish me luck.

But I guess it's too late now...
Good luck!

  • How to clear FCP Preference folder/cache

I think some of the problems I am having with FCP is due to old cache files that are still stored somewhere in the system. In the past I heard people talk about 'clearing FCP preference cache' but I could never figure out how to do it.
Can someone help me on this?
Some of the problems I am having are:
    - FCP freezes while 'log and transfer'
    - slow rendering speed
    - very slow export process
    - i had to change the location of the capture scratch because the original location wouldn't work anymore even if I had plenty of hard disk space in the system
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Download and run Digital Rebellion's Peference Manager. Set it to delete your preferences for Final Cut Pro. (It manages preferences on the whole FC suite as well as the Adobe CC suite)
This will reset your FCP system to its default state. This means all your custom settings and paths will need to be reset.

  • Boris 3D text editing window won't open without deleting FCP preferences

So, in my FCP7 projects, the Boris 3D text editing window won't open without deleting FCP preferences first. I've tried new projects, old projects, open all new windows on top settings. Once I delete the preferences, viola, opens right up. I can rebuild my preferences and after just a few days it won't open again... without preference delete.
I'm on a Macbook Pro 17'" i7 and do most of my editing on a 27" Apple Cinema Display. This is the only reason I could come up with. However I did some editing from the Macbook's screen and after 1 day, the Boris 3D editing window again refused to open. I have no idea. Is this is a known bug, etc.?
    Help!

With Final Cut not running, trash the Boris Title 3D preference file.
    /Library/Preferences/Title 3D Preferences
Also, you could have a corrupt or duplicate font file. Open FontBook and check it out.

  • FCP Preferences locking and also machines setting slocking

    Hi,
I have FCP 6.0.3 with Apple Mac.I am maintains the 5 fcp machines and there are 8 vt editors every time they change the systems preferences and user preferences and also the machine settings.
Is there any solutions that i can lock the FCP preferences so that editors can't change. Even i am looking the solutions that if i will lock the machines settings that will also help me.
    Please help me guys.

If you give each editor their own user account in Mac OS X. They will have their own set of FCP preferences. The main set of prefs on the Admin account will remain untouched.
MultiUserPro might also offer a solution -although I haven't actually tried it myself:

  • Preferences missing since upgrade

Hi, I upgraded from Studion 2 to 3 and it seems like my prefrences are missing from FCP. I use time machine so does anyone know of a way of getting them back or no. I appreciated any thoughts, thanks

How did you upgrade exactly -with a completely clean install or install on top of your existing software?
If it was the former, have you started your new version of FCP at all? Preferences files are written on the first application launch. They don't exist until the app is started.
There is also a possibility that the FCP 6 prefs are not compatible with FCP 7 prefs and were deleted by the installer.

  • Apple mail preferences missing tabs

my preferences no longer have any of the tabs/buttons across the top of the window...
General' 'Accounts' 'Junk mail' 'Fonts/Colors' 'viewing' 'Composing' 'Signatures' 'Rules' are all missing.
    where did they go?
    Please help.

OMG I feel so stupid. haha
Thank you so much. But what happened? I never used that button.
Thanks so much for the quick response. That was driving me crazy.

  • Where are the FCP preference files???

Is it possible to delete the preferences in FCP 5 without the program opening? If so how do I get to there?

Get yourself fcprescue for your version of fcp.
It trashes all the prefs (which are stashed in a couple of places.) It also allows you to save a good set. Then it's a matter of two clicks to trash bad prefs and put your good ones back.
    It's a must have.

  • Open JPG as RAW preference missing, Photoshop CS3

Some of my scripts are failing when the "open Jpg as Raw" preference is selected in Photoshop CS3. I found this thread that seems to solve the problem, but the relevant code is missing:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?128@@.3be5325f
Could someone please re-post the missing code for those functions?
    Thanks

Photoshop does "play nice" over networks, but seems to catch more OS and server bugs than other applications (mostly because we've added more error detection code over the years after dealing with many OS and server problems).

  • Tell me if this below is correct...trashing FCP preferences???

While using FCP, when I try to import with my lacie it shuts down after 38%. so these people below told me to try this...can you go there and tell if it sounds smart? FCP works for everything else. I RECENTLY did an update to the lacie and FCP----thinking thats the culprit. wish I could uninstall those updates.
One thing that I should have done and didn't was try what they say at this link...find a good combo that works between FCP, QT and OS version and never do updates so you can edit for years....

    Quit Final Cut
In ~/Library/Preferences (the ~ is your username), delete com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
In ~Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/, delete: Final Cut Pro 5 Prefs Final Cut Pro Obj Cache Final Cut Pro Prof Cache
    To reinstall Final Cut Pro:
    Open the Applications folder.
Drag the Final Cut Pro application to the Trash.
    Go to /Library/Receipts.
In the Receipts folder, select the “FinalCutPro.pkg” file.
Choose View > as List to view the contents in a list.
Click the Date Modified column header so you can easily see all of the receipts that were installed at the same time as Final Cut Pro.
Drag the FinalCutPro.pkg receipt to the Trash, as well as any other items that have the same modification date within 3 minutes of the FinalCutPro.pkg’s modification date.
Click the Name column header to sort the list alphabetically.
Drag any other receipts whose names begin with “Final Cut Pro” to the Trash.
Insert your Final Cut Pro installation disc and install Final Cut Pro.
When finished, use Software Update (under the Apple menu) to update your software to the latest version.

Deleting Preference files causes fresh ones to be generated, using default values, the next time an application is started. It's a good first step in troubleshooting, because it is relatively harmless.
One caveat, some apps, although not all and none of Final Cut Studio's, store their serial numbers in the Preference file -make sure you have those handy before deleting.
You can use Preference Manager to back up and restore working Preference files:
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm
Receipt packages contain information about the corresponding program -what was installed, when and where also, information about access permissions is store there. Receipts are only deposited by applications that are installed by Apple's Installer.app.
If you delete a receipt, Installer intially thinks that the application does not exist on your hard drive. However, if Installer attempts to place component X in folder Y, and then finds that the component or a newer version of it already exists, it will not overwrite it.
Because FCS places components in the System folder and in other folders which are normally hidden from the user, you need a tool such as "FCS Remover" to get all the components off your drive.

  • Ipod preferences missing

I'm manually updating my selected playlists but when I connect my ipod, I get an error message saying that the ipod preferences are missing and it can't update my ipod. Anybody else see this and have a solution?
    Thanks

The preferences for photos has changed in iTunes 7. Now you need to select your iPod from the Devices list in iTunes. Once selected, the iTunes main window will be replaced with a number of tabs labelled Summary, Music, Podcasts etc. Click on the one labelled 'Photos' and you'll be able to manage what gets copied from that window.

  • Store Preferences, missing "Music" checkbox

I reacently bought a new computer and was about to sync my music from my old one to the new and also to my iPhone 4, I've opened iTunes and got into Preferences then Store Preferences, but to my suprise the "Music" checkbox isen't there? The same "Music" choice in iOS is allso missing, Why?
I've bought a big amount of music through iTunes but I'm now unable to download this music to my new MacBook and my iPhone 4?
Thinks like this makes you understand the "downloading without buying" comunity, even though this could be a result of something outside the power of Apple it's most ceartenly the music industri which I don't really care about at all.
So is this some kind of country limitations(I'm living in Sweden) or a bug in iTunes software?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Where are you, not all locations support redownloading of iTunes purchases.

  • FCP X Missing Project.

I am working on FCPX 10.1.3 on Yosemite, I was working on a project last night, when I woke up this morning to continue working on it, my project was missing, I also get an error when quiting here is a screenshot...

So I tried a few more random things - this is just to potentially save other people some time trying useless random ideas to fix this stupid issue:
    - I copied the iMovie Library from my USB drive to my internal hard drive.
    - I made sure that I did not have any more symlinks pointing outside the Library. I had some JPEGs on my NAS which were used in the project and just symlinked into the Library (no Idea, why). I did this by "consolidating"* the iMovie media from iMovie - right click on events.
    - I tried two more projects
    - I disabled AppNap for iMovie AND Final Cut Pro X
None of these actions changed anything.
    This is incredibly annoying!
I am now trying to find out, how I could automate the process of hitting Shift-F for every single clip in my project using Apple Script (i.e. fixing the Events in the end). Unfortunately I can not find any useful information on how to script the FCP X interface.
Another option would potentially be to play around with the Events themselves (i.e. the CurrentVersion.fcpevent files). They are SQLite database but I have not figured out the structure yet. Any information if someone has already reverse engineered the structure of these databases would be very helpful!
*this might be called differently. I am on a German system so I don't know exactly how this translates into the english version.

  • Bold 9790 "Connection Preferences" missing

I bought the Bold 9790 to use UMA access for cell usage from a WiFi connection where there is no cellular service (from any carrier).
You are supposed to be able to set this:
    Bold Connection Preferences
but "Connection Preferences" does not appear on this phone.
I seem to have the right Service Books.
I do pay for the UMA (WiFi) option with Fido.
There is another site that suggests that there is a really painful way to get it going:
    BB UMA Access
There must be a simpler way to get access to "Connection Preferences".
There was a previous posting on this in 2012 that was never answered.

Thank you for your reply. I've learned to always start at the very beginning with the questions so as to not miss anything.
The next thing to investigate is whether you're running the latest version of OS available from Fido. You say you have the necessary service books (though it never hurts to resend them) so now you'll want to make sure you're running a new OS.
Check your phone for OS version then compare it to what Fido currently offers:
http://ca.blackberry.com/support/apps-and-software/desktop-and-device-download-sites.html (find Fido in the list)
Have a look at that and post back.
    - If my response has helped you, please click "Options" beside my post and mark it as solved. Clicking the "thumbs up" icon near the bottom of my response would also be appreciated.

  • Mail Reset After Kernel Panic- Accounts/Rules/preferences missing

My MbP had a kernel panic this evening and after the restart, I opened mail and got the "Welcome to Mail" message.
Tried restarting again, resetting pram (not sure why, but did), deleting preferences, etc. But all my mail preferences and accounts are missing.
They do still exist in the ~/library/Mail folder
But all my rules, smart folders, custom settings, etc are gone.
Any idea why this would happen?

Just wanted to make a quick reply because I had the same problem happen today, my MacBook Pro running 10.6.6, crashed with a kernel panic while using mail, although after checking the logs, it appears coreaudio caused the crash (had iTunes open in the background, perhaps a problem there?), had to do a force shutdown and restart (this is a very rare occurance that my MBP crashes).
When I started up again, mail would not start directly, instead was asking for details to set up a new account with the 'Welcome to Mail' message.
The fix was to move the mail preferences file (~/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist) to the desktop (or trash) and recover the most recent preferences file (com.apple.mail.plist) from time machine or other backup to the original location (~/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist).
Once I did that, restarted mail and all settings, messages, mailboxes, etc.. were exactly in place with no change (even the message I was typing when it crashed was still in the Drafts folder).
So this fix works as long as you have a back up.
(note I added extra info/explanation into this post for search engine's sake to make it easier to find)

  • Why does is the Content tab in Preferences missing?

When I try to view the Content tab in Preferences, it shows the last tab I clicked on. For example, when I click on Tabs and then try to view the Content tab, it shows the Tabs tab.
