FCP7  -1920 x 1080 photo  mismatch timeline issue

I have DSLR still photos shot at 1920x1080 (16:9)  ratio
Photoshop confirms the dimensions-- and also square pixels. (72dpi)
If I create a timeline in FCP7   choosing  a 1920 x 1080   preset (HDTV)...
---when I place the photo on the timeline--   it does not fit the frame.  Black bars on each side.
So , my quesiton is   --Why?   the dimensions are the same----  so I think it should fill the frame perfectly.
To further confound the situation -- If I create a colored test jpeg in photoshop 1920 x 1080 (square pixels  72 dpi)  and drop that in the FCP7 timeline-- it fills the  frame perfectly.
So my 1920x1080 DSLR stills and my 1920x1080 test photoshop jpeg  (identical specs as far as I can see...)  behave differently in FCP7....
Any help appreciated.

Click on one of your imported pictures in the FCP browser, and once selected, type Command + 9 to see the properties for the clip. Either report those properties here or take a screen shot and post the screen shot of the item properties here.
Next, click anywhere on you sequence timeline, and then type Command + 0 {zero} to see the Sequence Settings. Either report the Sequence Settings here or take a screen shot and post the screen shot of the Sequence Settings here.

Does this mean the actual pixel dimensions are not 1920 x 1080, but are in the 16x9 ratio?
FCP7 has a limit of dealing with still images - they can be no wider than 4000 px in the widest dimension.

  • What sequence setting would you use to edit 1280 x1080 DVCProHD (P2) and 1920 x 1080 AVCHD (Sony) in FCP. Experiencing Quality and rendering issues.

What sequence setting would you use to edit both 1280 x1080 DVCProHD (P2) and 1920 x 1080 AVCHD (Sony) in a single timeline in FCP. I'm experiencing quality and rendering issues.  I've tried numerous settings but can't seem to figure this one out.  Thanks for your assistance.

Although you can combine the avchd 1920x1080 material with prores 1920x1080 in the same timeline, you might land up saving time just converting everything to 1920x1080 prores 422.   You'd probably reduce the amount of rendering while you're working and exporting when you're done by a great deal.  This workflow will require much more drive space.

  • How to set up so that 1920 x 1080  h.264 files don't need to be rendered when importing onto timeline

Is there a way to set up final cut express to default to the proper settings so that 1920 x 1080 h.246 mov files don't have to be rendered when dropped onto the timeline? It is really not efficient to work on something when it takes hours to render. Thanks

    Thanks Tom,
Is it the same in fcs? Or does fcs have the capacity to import without render to timeline?
    Appreciate the reply.

  • Problem with still image quality 1920 x 1080 HD Export

    Hey everyone ---
Question that I can't seem to find a clear answer for -- maybe you can help !
I am producing a film and am exporting it using the H264 setting, square pixels, CBR. Video quality is wonderful --- but I am having an issue with a still image. Essentially, I am importing an image of a film logo at the beginning of my film. The image is vector, dropped into photoshop from illustrator, saved as either an EPS or jpg, then I import that into the timeline. Once exported, video looks crisp and beautiful, but the logo at the beggining has slightly jagged edges and is NOT crystal sharp super clear as it should be or as it was saved as.
I've tried a few things but can't seem to get the formula right. I tried adjusting frame size, doesn't work. I tried bringing in a HUGE image and scaling it down, again, doesn't work. I've used many versions of premiere (since 6.0) and I don't remember ever having this sort of problem. I've tried all the frame sizes, from 1440 x 1080 to 1920 x 1080 (my source footage) and it just doesn't like to render the image crisply.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks !

Create a new .psd in Photoshop (using the Film and Video templates) that match your sequence settings.  Bring the vector image into PS and add it on a second layer to that new .psd.  Save out that .psd as a .png with no Interlacing.
Bring that into PP for use in the sequence.

  • See if I'm doing this correctly - Starting create an HD 1920 X 1080 Slidesh

    Hello All;
I'm new to FCP and am using FCP 6 from Final Cut Studio. I need to create a High definition Slideshow that will be shown on both a computer screen and a TV.
After opening FCP, I select NEW PROJECT and then New Sequence. Then I Then from the sequence menu, I select settings and in there select a frame size of 1920 X 1080 HDV 1080i.
My photos are at a resultion of 3008 X 2000. Then I import these into the timeline.
Two questions - First, is this the basic way to set up a HDV video project, and second, will the photos (Which are a higher resolution than HD), scale to fit the screen without changing the aspect ratio ? It looks like it's working correctly but before I get too far, I thought I'd ask the forum. Thanks.
    Tim

Should I do a custom frame size and set it to 1920 X 1080. Then, select ProRes 422 for the codec ?
You choose the ProRes 422 EASY SETUP. This adjusts everything. Make a new sequence and that sequence will have those settings.
Would I set the Pixel Aspect Ratio to square and the field dominance to none ?
Well, ProRes 422, if you choose a 1080p setting, will have no field dominance and is square pixel.
I also want to create a smaller DV version for playback on a TV.
You will compress the master to a smaller format when you are done...with Compressor.

  • Bringing stills onto timeline issues...

I've got several hundred stills related to a project.  I want to bring them onto a timeline so the client can breeze through them to make selects (client has Premiere but no photo editing app).
For some reason the stills, when dragged onto the timeline, are zoomed way in.
They don't automatically size to fit (as in FCP).  Is there some setting I can do so that the stills will auto size to fit.  They are all 16:9 format.  Though various resolutions - some were pulled from the HD footage and some done as stills with a Sony a7r - all are 72dpi.
Is there some setting I'm missing in Premiere - to have these auto-size to fit when I drag them onto the timeline?  The idea of rescaling them one by one does not turn my crank.
    All ears,
    Ben

    Ben,
In PrPro, you can set Scale to Default Frame Size, so that the Scaling will match the Frame Size of the Sequence - with one caveat: That Scale to Default Frame Size will fill the first dimension, so lets say that you have a 4000 x 3000 pixel Image, then the 3000 pixels will hit the 1080 pixels in a 1920 x 1080 HD Frame first, leaving black bars on either side of the Still. This is due to a difference in the Aspect Ratio - Still Image @ 4:3, and Sequence at 16:9. If the Aspect Ratio is the same, then the Frame will be automatically filled.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • 1920 x 1080 in final cut (Lion Ruined MY mAC)

just installed lion, then spent 5 hours in apple store as it conflicted with my final cut editing suite. had to reload snow leopard to the mac then final cut. now i cannot change the compressor setting back to 1920 x 1080 with apple intermediate codec it is stuck on AIC 1440 x 1080. it shouldnt have a problems going back to the normal setting as its the smae one i have used for a year
i am sure that when i got the mac i changed it to 1920 by 1080 and there was not a problem but i have looked everywhere on final cut to change to timeline to the 1920 x 1080 AIC jpeg - photo as thats what i am used to and it just seems to work
Any thoughts would be grately thanked as i am sure i have done it before
    Cole

I thought that that after 4 hours of updates it should have done it but finally sorted it, plus the lack of food and drink affected my silly judgement.
Just wish that lion had not buttered it in first place

  • CAN someone tell me why Final Cut Pro is crashing using 1920 X 1080 clips?

I'm bringing in clips from a Canon EOS and they are 1920 X 1080. I can line them up in the timeline, scrub them, trim them etc. NO PROBLEM. But the second I add a transition (a simple cross dissolve) it stops COLD (giving me the usual RT unlimited warning, yada yada yada). I don't know whether this is just a simple RAM issue (I currently have 5 GB - I have 4 more GB on the way) or a settings issue. I'm new to HD editing and I'm pulling my hair out over this! Perhaps someone could lay out a simple workflow/computer requirements list for me. That would be amazing. HELLLP!

    Welcome to the Forum!
Files from that camera need to be transcoded to an editing format like ProRes 422. You have an H.264 file in FCP. It doesn't like those and creates the problem you are having.
This is discussed on this forum on a daily basis. If you type in your camera model into the search in the upper right corner you will see many threads where this is discussed in great detail.

  • How do you segment a long project and preserve HD 1920 x 1080 pixels at each step?

I'm shooting video with a Canon HF S10 in the maximum quality (1920 x 1080 i) mode.  The resulting files in AVCHD format are coming into the computer and into Elements 7 okay.  The desired  Project output is BluRay.  I want to maintain the full image quality (1920 x 1080) end-to-end (lesser quality is okay on the timeline if that all that is available).  My current project is about 65 minutes long--future ones could be two hours or more.  All the 100+ trimmed clips and transitions are on the timeline.  Saving the Project file seems to work, but re-opening the Project takes a long time and doesn't always work.  Rendering this long timeline ulitimately freezes/crashes.  When the Project was much shorter, the save and reload cyle worked okay.
Per Steve's book a work around is to break the project into pieces around 10 minutes long, render and save them to AVI files, reload and merge the AVI files into a new "Master" Project and then render the whole thing to BluRay(?).  Better yet he suggests outputing to a folder and burning the disc with other software.  But Elements does not output BluRay to a folder.  And when I experimented outputing with AVI segment files, quality dropped a lot suggesting that the 1920 x 1080 is not preserved in AVI format.
    It appears that:
AVI files are just the DV 720 x 480 image quality of mini DV tape
Output to a folder in BluRay image format is not available
Elements 7 does not support breaking an HD 1920 x 1080 timeline into segments for long projects
Any ideas will be appreciated.  Canon does supply a crude editing software package that is claimed to do simple cuts and transitions and produce a file that can be loaded back into the HF S10 memory for playback (distributing product on SD cards instead of BluRay is a novel possibility).  I'd prefer to use Elements or a similar software product that takes me start to finish without losing any pixels.
Finally, I have a backlog of several long projects using HDV tape as a source.  I want those to go to BluRay too, but not giving up any of the 1440 x 1080 pixels.  I think the same limitations above apply to HDV.
After waiting several years to get this end-to-end capability, it is disappointing to find it still seems to be out of reach (maybe is just hidden).
Sometime soon, I hope Steve will write an edition that deals exclusively with the end-to-end HD (1920 x 1080) work flow including best scaling of still images, storage of image files and output to BluRay and creating slide shows using all the HD pixels (no SD compromises) again on BluRay.  That of course means Adobe may need to add some tweaks in Elements 8.

PS, my PC is using an Intel Core 2 Quad processor, Vista OS, 4 GB of memory, has access to several TB of HD, and a couple of GB of Ready Boost memory (does this really help?) and a 1920 x 1200 monitor.

You could export each section as 1920x1080 MPEG2 using the Share>Personal Computer>MPEG option then selecting the MPEG2 1920x1080i export Preset.
You can also export as AVI... however this will be uncompressed AVI with a file size of over 1GB per minute... File>Export>Movie then in Settings under General>File Type select Microsoft AVI (not Microsoft DV AVI). Then in Video>Compressor select None, in Frame Size set 1920x1080 and in PixelAspect Ratio select Square Pixels.

  • Quicktime Export 1920 x 1080

    Hi
    Using CS5 Master Collection.
I am giving my finished output to someone who is doing color correction for me.  The source is 1920 x 1080, (1.9), 29.97 fps Progressive.
They want a quicktime format.  Not an AVI.
I am looking at the Export Settings for QuickTime and I only see 720 x 480, in various flavors.
Certainly there must be a way in premiere to export to Quicktime 1920 x 1080????
I assume there are plenty of threads here, but thought I'd start from scratch and get some recommended "best practices" for this issue.
    Thanks
    Rowby

    Good day to you all.
I'm having real problems exporting to Quicktime but I'm in the UK and obviously the format is PAL rather than NTSC, but I'm not sure if that affects the QuickTime settings.
I'm using PPro CS5 and I have downloaded the AVID codecs, mentioned above, and I can see them in the Video Codec menu.
    My source file is:
    Format: .avi
    Frame rate: 25
    Duration: 5m 30s
    Size: 720 x 576 (1.4587)
    Audio: 48000Hz - 16 bit - stereo
I want to output this to play on iPads, Macs, etc. in the UK. Which setting should I be using as I have gone around in ever decreasing circles and keep getting the "Error compiling movie", "Unable to create or open output file" dialogue.
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Hd 1920 by 1080

i got footage shot on a canon HD and the properties is H.264 Decoder, 1920 x 1080, Millions 16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz with 29 fps
i exported that footage using mpegstreamclip to change it to apple pro res 422 and change frame rate to 25 fps and maintaining the size and adding 16 to 9 in the setting.
what is worrying me that this footage after editing will be aired on a usual tv-Pal 720 by 576.
what is the best way to put it so i don't have to find it cropped at the end.

Check with the network to see if they want letterboxed or anamorphic footage.  In addition what format are you delivering on?  File or physical media?
Without more details I suggest you drag one of your converted clips onto the timeline and select YES to update the sequence settings.  Edit.  Export that using Current Settings.  Create a new sequence with your delivery settings (720x576) and drop the exported QT movie onto this sequence.  When you drop it in pick NO to retain the settings you plugged in.  If you do it this way you will have an HD version for archival and the SD version to send to the network.
As for going from 30 to 25 frames, I don't have good advice for that.  I got some PAL in recently and went through Motion's Optical Flow to get it to 30 fps.  Looks great, but it took forever.

  • Accidentally Shot 1920 x 1080, 60i

Shot some footage today using two DSLR cameras. One was incorrectly set to 1920 x 1080 60i and when I imported into FCP, the video is not smooth. tried exporting it and got the same result. The other video was shot 24fps. I brought a 60i clip into the project window and exported it using H.264 but no luck. Not sure what to do here or what I have have done wrong. I suspect you may need more information and I would be glad to give it to you on request. I am a bit of an amatuer (obviously) and I may need someone to walk me through it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hi Ian,
Thanks for the reply. I agree that something odd is happening here. FYI when I run the files through quiktime, they also do not run smoothly. In other words, I imported the files through FCP and after the clips didn't ruyn smoothly, I went to the Event Folder/Original Media and tried to play the clips that way (through Quicktime) and I got the same issue. Does that tell you anything? When I play the clips on the camera they play fine. Is there perhaps an import setting error?
I tired reset speed but it did not change things. Also, there was no place to reset the speed to 24p. I assume the project is set to 60i since I assumed FCP sets the project to the first clip that is dropped into the project.
Does any of this make sense to you?
    Thanks

  • 1920 x 1080

I've been looking through old posts on here and one of them seems to be saying that FCE 4 cannot accept 1920 x 1080, only 1440 x 1080. Is that right?
    Thanks
    Richard

The limitation isn't actually in the AIC codec btw.
When I capture my 1920 x 1080i footage from my Sony HDR-SR12E it produces an AIC file with true 1920 x 1080 in the capture folder (shown with Quicktime Movie Inspector).
In FCE you cannot inscrease the sequence frame size from 1440 x 1080 though so it always renders to 1440 x 1080 (and you can see this on the render files produced through Quicktime Movie inspector).
Also note, there are known issues with capturing this kind of footage from some cameras (there is an artical on Canon cameras on the Apple support site).
Final note, if your footage is captured at 1920 x 1080i FCE will insist on rendering everything that you use.

  • Dreamweaver CS6: font size in menus too small on 1920 x 1080 screen. [was: Dreamweaver]

    Hi,
I am using adobe Dreamweaver cs6 and my Laptop screen size 15.5 (39.4 cms) wide (1920 x 1080). My Dreamweaver software top tab menus like File, Edit, View, Insert, Modify, Format etc. these are menus font size too small in my laptop display so i am facing problem in development. I have try to resolve this issue through change to desktop resolution but after change the resolution of window property i have get only little bit change in font size of tab menus but i am not satisfied with this change if you have any other solution for this problem please reply me or email me on [personal information deleted by moderator]
    Thanks
    Parveen Kumar

Unfortunately, the only way to change the font size in the Dreamweaver interface is by changing the display settings of your computer. On Windows, you can change the size of text and other items without changing the resolution by selecting Start > Control Panel > Display. I don't think there is an equivalent on a Mac.
If you find the size of the menu items a problem, I suggest that you submit a feature request through the form at https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform.

  • Choppy playback of AVCHD footage. 1920 x 1080 60p. Imported as optimized media.

So I have some stuff shot on different days, same card, same camera, same settings.  1920 x 1080 AVCHD 60fps progressive, imported as optimized media.  I know my computer and external drive are able to handle this kind of footage. What is puzzling is that some clips with the same specs, play back very choppy (like unrendered media) and others play back wonderful.  What gives, I must be missing something obvious. Why would some clips play ok and others really badly?  I have double checked that everything (codec, frame rate, optimized vs. proxy) is the same by viewing stats in the events browser. Dropping these clips into the timeline does not show they need rendering, but if I output the clip as a master file, it plays fine. I have clips in other events that play great, with the same specs.  I am at a real loss. thanks gentlemen.

Sorry, but I can't think of anything during import that would introduce errors that would cause  choppy playback. A momemttary loss of connection would be a problem but would typically corrupt the file and it most likely not play at all.
If you hadn't said that some clips played (or previewed) perfectly smoothly, I'd suspect a hardware problem.
Maybe someone else will have some better ideas.
