  • FCPX audio problems

I have a lot of audio problems with some clips imported into FCPX.
I have a real normal clip in most cases, with audio that plays regularly, 100% audio on any media player.
But when I import it to FCPX, it has those waveforms that indicate that there is audio in the clip, but when I play the clip in FCPX, it starts off great, but in the middle, the audio just cuts, and I have a video where there is no audio where the audio is supposed to be.
Any solutions? I don't think it's the video's fault, nor my computer's problem. Mabye it's the external hard drive that's causing these problems, as I'm using a external hard drive to make these videos.
The video I made that didn't have audio in the middle was made in Motion.

    Thank you SO MUCH!!
That worked perfectly, and my intro video is working again with perfect audio!
    Thanks again!

  • FCPX update problems ?

Has anyone lost files or whole projects by doing this odd trash you old FCP to install a update ?  IE 10.0 to 10.0.3

I just 'upgraded' to 10.0.3 from the trial 10.0.1. It did not overwrite the trial - it installed separately. My projects and events were untouched. There does seem to be issues with opening old projects in the new version. They open fine, but the media is missing or needs to be rerendered or something. I haven't had time to worry about this yet.

  • FCPX not producing synched clips in browser - can you help?

Have wav files recorded on hn4 Zoom. Have latest version of FCPX (0.6).  Have video files with scratch audio converted to Apple Pro Res 444. When I highlight the wav file and the corresponding video file it looks like something processes (ie background process goes into action) but nothing appears in the event browser - ie no synchronized clip appears. I have searched for synchronized clip and nada. Anyone got advice or solutions? Maybe it doesn't work with 444??  I have previously synchronized clips successfully with earlier version of FCPX no problem.
    Any help appreciated.

The synced file may exist but not be shown. Make sure the Event Librarry Filter pop-up menu is set to All Clips and that there is nothing in the search bar.

  • When rendering a project, FCPX did not stop at 100% but appeared to keep rendering - when it reached eleven thousand something, I quite FCPX (it allowed me to quit).

When rendering a project, FCPX did not stop at 100% but appeared to keep rendering - when it reached eleven thousand something, I quite FCPX (it allowed me to quit).

The background tasks indicator just kept going and going... 200, 300... 400... 600...800... When I opened the background tasks window, the only process it said was active was rendering.
I clicked on "stop" but it ignored me, kept counting on and on....  1000... 2000,,, 5000 I clicked Pause, it didn't ignore me but still kept counting...  7000... 10,000...
I went to my activity monitor on my mac and from what it said (like, 97% or so idle), I surmised that it actually had stopped rendering.  So I quit FCPX - no problem, no "not responding" or "force quit" or anything.
My external harddrive was still whirring (that's where my project is stored) so with much trepidation I ejected it: no problem...
After my question I (agian with much trepidation) opened FCPX, did some editing, rendered, exported, without problems.
But I'm concerned about what might have caused this bizarre behavior and what to do if it happens again.
    any thoughts???

  • Moving projects and events from FCPX to server

Bear with me here...I'm a new FCPX user as far as file management is concerned.
I have several projects and events sitting at the root level of FCPX when I open it. It's completely bogging down my system (whether FCPX is open or not) and I understand I need to archive the projects I'm done with. I have access to a server that also houses all of my original footage so I'd like to archive my projects/events to there and delete them from my local hard drive so that my computer is lightning fast again.
When I go to File > Move Project the location pull-down menu only has one option: No Value and doesn't allow me to pick where to move the files to. Error Message reads: "You don't have permission to write files to the choosen destination."
When I go to File > Duplicate Project, I choose Project + Used Clips (I have all of my original and Pro-Res footage on the server already, no need to copy them again, right?) it creates a new "Clips for [project name here]" folder in the Final Cut Projects folder in my Movies folder on my hard drive. It seems like there's a lot less content in this "Clips for" folder than in the original and it makes me nervous, but I understand that since I'm only checking "Project + Used Clips" there is bound to be less content than ALL of the clips I originally had in my event when I was editing and wanted access to all of my footage.
    1. Is this all I need to drag onto the server? When I go to open the project in the future from the server will it have "broken links"?
    2. Can I then delete the original project folder from my hard drive?
    3. Do I need to check "Include Render files" when duplicating? What exactly does including these do for me in the future?
    4. If I drag this duplicated project do I need to drag the separate Events folder with it? Or was that taken care of with the duplicate function? A lot of my projects reference the same events so I'm afraid if I move one event folder for one project it will screw it up for another.
I've also read about "hiding" my FCP projects and events in different folders on my system and then they won't open when I open FCPX. Problem is, I don't want all that extra footage on my hard drive slowing down my computer when it's already on the server somewhere.
Hope this all makes sense and thank you in advance for your help!

Thanks so much for responding! That all makes sense, and I was concerned about editing from the server directly because of bottlenecking, so I will continue to have my current project on my local drive and then move it later.
Can you clarify this for me:
"create a sparse disk image on the server, mount it"
Does that mean I create a "shortcut" on my desktop to the area in the server where it goes and then archive my projects to it?
One more question, when I hide my events/files as you show in your screenshot, isn't it still housing my footage on my local drive and therefore eating up space?
A  disk image is a special kind of file that you can double click and mount as if it were a hard disk.
The word "sparse" means that it will grow only as you add content to it. So you can create a sparse disk image with size, say, 50GB, but if you only add files that occupy 1GB, that's the space it will take on disk; it will grow as needed to accomodate more files (assuming the actual disk where the image resides has available space, of course). You create disk images in Disk Utility.
You probably have used disk images a lot without maybe realizing it. The dmg files that contain installers for many applications are disk images.
Regarding the hidden events: yes, if they are still on the drive they will still occupy space. If the matter is freeing space on the drive, this will not help; but if the matter is making FCP X work faster and use less memory, it will.
And you could just as well take the events and "hide" them in a different drive.

  • RGB to CMYK (channels) with PixelConduit plugin

As I'm unable to submit a user tip yet, I thought I'd share my solution here for anyone looking to simulate CMYK channels in Motion/FCPX.
    PROBLEM
For some reason you want to convert your RGB source clip to extract individual CMYK (Cyan, Mangenta, Yellow, blacK) channels. For example you'd want to simulate the printing process of a book on a printing press.
    SOLUTION
Use a free FCPX/Motion 5 plugin caled PixelConduit, a node-based visual effects design system. Install the plugin before launching Motion.
To extract CMYK channels, I used a (linear) RGB to CMYK formula:
    Black   = Math.min( 1 - Red, 1 - Green, 1 - Blue )
    Cyan    = ( ( 1 - Red )   - Black ) / ( 1 - Black )
    Magenta = ( ( 1 - Green ) - Black ) / ( 1 - Black )
    Yellow  = ( ( 1 - Blue )  - Black ) / ( 1 - Black )
and translated it to PixelConduit's nodes.
Clone your source clip four times. Call the clones 'Cyan', 'Magenta', 'Yellow' and 'Black'. Navigate to Library > Filters > Conduit Effect System, choose Conduit and apply it to each clone layer. In Inspector, click 'Show Conduit Editor' and assemble the following node tree for each layer:
    K (black) layer:
C (cyan), M (magenta) and Y (yellow) layers are identical except the first channel selection:
So, for M and Y layers change the 'Separate RGBA' node to output the green and blue channel respectively. You can copy/paste the whole node tree between intances of the filter so you don't have to create everything again from scratch.
You should now have four layers outputting a simulation of C, M, Y and K channel in greyscale. If you'd like to present these channels in colour you'd need to add Colorize filter to each clone layer:
And finally, if you use Multiply Blend Mode for each clone layer group you'll get a pretty close colour composition to the original source clip! By fine-tuning colour values in Colorize filters and/or tone curves in Conduit you could probably get a perfect conversion.
Colour values used in Colorize filter:
    Remap White To:
    1, 1, 1 (all)
    Remap Black To:
    0, 0.61, 0.89 (cyan)
    1, 0, 0.5 (magenta)
    1, 0.95, 0 (yellow)
    0, 0, 0 (black)
That's it! Hope it can help anyone :^)

  • Help: I need to video underwater

    Hi there,
I need to video some underwater video. I have research into some action camera like below:
    a) JVC GC-XA1
    b) GoPro Hero 3
    Questions:
    1) Which of the above action camera are better ?
    2) I will be doing multicam function as there are angles to take. SInce my other video cameras are shot in 1920 x 1080 at 25p, if I set this action camera to 1920 x 1080 at 50p, will FCPX have problem handling the difference ?
    Thanks

    Jakob Peterhänsel wrote:
1: Well, I would choose between the Contour HD cams or the GoPro's.
    It's a matter of taste.
2: No, FCPX handle multiple framerates just fine.. and if you shoot in 50p or 30/60, you just have extra frames to use if you like to make slowmo..
    Thanks Jakob.
    1. Can I know why in your opinion you do not like the JVC since the JVC do not need extra housing/casing to go underwater ? I saw some review from the JVC which claims that the audio will be better without the waterproof casing.
    2. Thanks, it is good to know that FCPX can handle a mixture of different framerates at one go. I also notice that in the review of GoPro, it ways we must use a micro sd card of Class 10. Will this be a problem since all these while my other video cameras are only using Class 4 sd card. Will these pose any problem for FCPX ?
    Thanks again ...
    Cheers

  • How to merge video clips?

I have a video that is broken into two files (the memory card had a 4gb file limit so it has two files under that size). I imported the two of them into FCPX no problem but I want to treat the both of them as one clip in the event browser. Is there a way to do this?

... ehm? you can select two clips and hit F = both marked.
or, if you want to mark just parts of both clips, in-to-end clip#1, begin-to-out on clip#2 ...
ok, this is two clicks, instead of one ... big thing
I would avoid compounds as much as possible.
And esp.just for organizing, the 'data base tool' FCPX offers with its tags, keywords, favorites, meta-info, search filters, smart collections etc etc etc MUCH more 'powerful' tools than just bins of single solid clips.
…Not meant as a personal offence, but I really recommend to get familiar with the NEW way, how FCPX handles 'sources'… just for organizing, compounds is really the wrong turn.... my 5¢.-
No I can't mark from one clip into another because they have different time stamps. I guess the camera marks the clips based on the start time. And there are clips in between these two clips.
Why is there no way to join clips?

  • 120FPS video play and share

So, I got my shiny 5S, I made a few videos in HFR, and would like to upoload them to youtube/vimeo OR just play them on my mac.
I got an i7 17'MBP, so the performance wont be a problem, but, whenever i transfer my video with image capture, quick time just plays it at HFR and dont slow down where it supposed to. Even tried it in FCPX, same problem. I have 10.0.9 of FCPX and 10.8.5 of OSX.
What could be the problem? The video plays fine on the 5S.
Oh, and FCPX just makes my CPU go up to 120-150%, but the video is even get laggy in the preview window...

    Hi,
You may take the following into account:
The following devices support the mobile application:
    Anchor– iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4
    Anchor– iPod Touch 4th Generation
Anchor– iPad 1 and iPad 2
You can check this link: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/video/digital_media_systems/5_x/5_3/showandshare/admin/guide/ssadmin/mobile.html#45621
Is it working for non-mobile users?
Does your mobile has connectivity to your SnS Network?
    Hope this helps!

  • Final Cut Pro dropping Frames on playback

I am editing a multi cam video in final Cut Pro. I have set playback to proxy media. I have 250gb free hard drive and 8gb ram. I have an IMac that isnt a year old yet.
I have previously completed a music video, excactly the same composition of 3 camera angles and a soundtrack and no issues at all.
The individual clips play fine but when I play the multicam clip its dropping frames on playback and output. The video is lagging behind the audio.
Considering upgrading ram, but Im confused as to why last week I could do this perfectly and now the machine seems to be struggling?
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

    1) IF the clips are playing back fine without the effect. It is NOT the drive speed causing the drama... The effect is.
    2) FCPx is NOT a real time application like PPRO when effects are applied. Sometimes if your GPU is strong enough and if the effect has been properly coded you WILL be able to achieve real-time performance... But in most cases not...
    3) FCPx has BIG problems playing back video in real-time as it is. Even if its ProRes and residing on a super fast SSD... FCPx HAS problems which are hopefully being worked out as I write...
Solution to your problem is to render the timeline if you have effects on any clips. Also, make sure that your project is NOT residing on the same disk as the event library which it is using. The project ALSO need to be on a fast disk because ONCE you render the timeline, the video is being played back from a file in your project folder and NO LONGER the event library

  • Cannot share my projects - failed every time

Hi, I am on a mbp with 8 GB Ram and running Lion. A couple of weeks ago my harddisk crashed, and I got it replaced. I used the time capsule to back up all my stuff. My events for FCPX are kept on WD HD with firewire connection. I can launch FCPX, and all my projects are intact, but when I try to share them, I immediately get the share monitor dialogue box that says "failed", and nothing else happens. When I restored from my time capsule, I had to choose a new username, and I deletes my old one - maybe that has something to do with the problem?
    Any Ideas?

I tried to reinnstall FCPX - same problem. But when I tried to log on to my other user account (the one I created when i reinnstalled from my time capsule) - I was able to share my projects. But on my other user account where I have all my music and pictures etc. I am not able to share my projects. Now I am wondering if I can merge those two accounts? Or maybe I should delete the account that isn´t working with FCPX, and then extract everything from my time capsule onto the account that works with FCPX.
Hope this makes sense, and I am glad for all help so far

  • Flash Crashes on Export Every Time

All of a sudden, today, I started having Flash crash on every

  • Problem with backing up my FCPX file

    Hi all,
my FCPX "library file" is 1.5 terrabyte and I can't back it up. Every time I try and do it, it stops after approximately 100 gigabytes (the HD I'm trying to copy it to has more than enough free space. It's between two 4TB G-raids with approximately 2GB free on each. My computer harddrive has 215GB free space). The file works just fine in terms of opening and working with but I can't back it up. This is really scary since I've already spent 4 months of work on this. Does anyone know of other ways it can be backed up other than just copying the library file to another harddrive? Or has anyone had the same problem and found a workaround to at least back up all the timelines?
It seems very strange to me it's all just an ENORMOUS file and no folders, editing files, etc to back up separately for security. Or have I missed something?
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Best,
    Chris

Hello again Tom and thanks for your help!
No, I didn't optimize any media though I've rendered proxies for all media. I have about 14TB of R3D footage on five external harddrives, it's a feature. The proxies and sound files which I copied to the library makes the library file that big. I can't consolidate all media, as far as I know, since I don't have a drive even close to the size of all the R3D footage.
In terms of copying I have only tried the good old "copy/paste" method. I have never used any of those programs you mentioned. Can those programs be used to copy certain files or will they copy an entire drive?
Will the automatic back-ups FCPX does every 15 minutes save my timelines if something would go wrong and the library file would dissappear? I don't fully understand how that back-up process works. I could always render new proxies, though it would take time, but re-editing all those timelines is a whole other thing. Important to note here is that I'm used to Premiere Pro and the "old" FCP which is why all of this is so confusing.
    Thank you again!
