Feasibility for developing application in JDeveloper

Hi,
I am evaluating the feasibility of developing an enterprise application using either JDeveloper or Forms 6i. I would like to clarify the following points:
1. Does deployment require JDeveloper to be installed on the Application Server?
2. Is it possible to develop an entire enterprise application including all validations, input from other file formats such as .txt or .xls using only JSP/Business components?
Thanx n Bye

1. No. iAS has the required JBO classess.
2. Yes. You can do your app using only JSP/BC4J. But at present, given the poor documentation of iAS and the unstable state of iAS, you'd expect lots of trouble deploying your app.

  • Best Practices of security for develop applications

I need information about a model to use for develop application using Forms and Reports. I read many documents about best security practices for database, but I don´t find information about how can I join the database security with my software, and how can I establish an standard for my programmers.
    Thanks you for your help.

There are a number of levels of implementation pain here-- best practices in a Fortune 500 company, for example, are likely to require a lot more infrastructure than best practices in a 5000 person organization. A Fortune 500 is also much more likely to have requirements based on the needs of a security team separate from the DBA group, requirements about auditing, etc.
At the high end, everyone in your organization might be an enterprise user authenticated against a LDAP repository (such as Active Directory) with a variety of functional roles granted to those users and potentially something like fine-grained access control in the database. Depending on how applications are deployed, you might also be using proxy authentication to authenticate these individual users.
Deploying this sort of infrastructure, though, will be somewhat time intensive and will create a degree of administrative overhead that you may not need. It will also potentially require a decent investment in development costs. Your needs may be far simpler (or more complex), so your security model ought to reflect that.

  • IS designer a good tool for development applications

Rightnow we are on oracle 7.2 so i wanted to know whether i can use this case tool for all my application development in the future.
    waiting for your valuable suggestions

No. In my testing of it I found that it failed to do most of what it claimed it would do. I say avoid it.
It is only good for paving the vendors pocket's with gold.

  • Searching for a deployment tool for Developer Applications

hey ladies & gentlemen.....I wish that I should've a single setup.exe file to install my appliation developed in Oracle Developer,in addition it should also install the Oracle Database after copying the runtime application files. In this way I wish to facilitate my clients so that they should not call me to re-install the client application if he needs to reinstall the application after a system or windows crash recovery,n he should perform it just like installing another appliation like MS-Office etc. although I know that installing the Oracle Database is a very technical matter, yet I'm looking to fulfill my wish:).thanx.

You can't deploy a Forms application as an .exe. You need to install the runtime and then all the FMX/PLL/MMX files. There are tools that may help you package this up but not to a .exe file - this is why a web deployed application has advantages over client/server.

  • Could APEX be used for development of a General Ledger system?

    Hi All,
I am interested in developing a "light" web-based erp system for small sized companies for a vertical market. This system should be composed of General Ledger, Inventory & Payables functional areas. I just want to know if APEX could be used for developing applications of this kind. Do you believe that APEX is a mature platform in order ro be useful for development of complex applications? I'm very impressed by this platform but I do not have the necessary experience in order to decide if I could use APEX for more complex and demanding apps.
    Thank you very much,
    George Papageorgiou

Technically speaking Apex can handle anything other frameworks..etc can do. I think your target market will determine whether Apex is the correct choice or not.
Larger companies will want to go with an established ERP system like Oracle Financials, SAP, Costpoint..etc. So if you are aiming at a mid to small sized company, they may have a much smaller budget for such a system. If you are planning to make it a SAAS and host the solution yourself, I think Apex would be a good fit. If you are planning on selling the software for a local installation at the customer site, it may not be the best fit due to its coupling with the Oracle database. Personally I wouldn't want to put my entire financial set of data on someone else's server, but thats just me.
In my own opinion, a good ERP or 3rd party COTS product does not dictate to you which database you need to use, but instead supports multiple. Apex lives inside the Oracle database, so your customers have to run Oracle. For larger shops, it is not an issue, but for smaller shops, they may want to use mysql or something similar. Now people here will say "But Oracle XE is free!". This is true, but it is also almost 6 years old, completely unsupported by Oracle, and not patched. So I wouldn't stake my entire success on it.
So again it really will depend who you are going after, whether you will host the solution, and whether you think the cost/skill level of Oracle will be a barrier to your customers.

  • Spell Checker For Developer

Yes, That's true there is no options to check the spell inside email, but they have introduced similar to spell check + word Suggestion option and its very useful, its a inbuilt option.

  • Step-by-Step guide for developing a ADF application, does it exist?

Step-by-Step guide for developing a ADF application, does it exist?
    Hi there,
At our company we recently begun working on a project using Oracle ADF with
UIX. We got the Oracle JDeveloper 10g handbook and we did a 5 day Oracle ADF
course. A good way to start the project I think.
One thing that bothers me though, is that I cannot find a simple clean example
how to manipulate a record in the DB, going through all steps of MVC. I tried
this forum, the books we got and google. It usualy explains a small portion
of the steps needed, but never a complete example.
I know people will probably say you can design what you want in various ways
and that's its all up to the developer, this is also the power of ADF that it
    can be very flexible.
However it would be nice to have a step-by-step example how to be able to insert,
edit and delete a record. Showing all the steps that have to be made in the BC4J,
struts and UIX, including creating triggers, seq, autocommitting etc.
I think ADF is pretty complicated, therefore having a step-by-step example guide
(design pattern) would be very handy for a beginner like me.
Do such guides exist, are there developers who created such a guide for themselves?
Would other developers find such a guide useful? I'm curious about everybody's
    opinion.
A good example of what I mean by guide can be found here

Have a look at the ADF Workshop - it doesn't use UIX rather it uses JSP but I think it will give you the basics.

Then have a look at the toy-store demo and the new ADF Case manual:

As you know, the business and programming community has
adopted Java in an unprecedented manner.
Java will be the lifeblood in the infrastructure of many
future (enterprise level) applications and future platforms.
So, I believe it is vital to understand Java!
To develop an enterprise level application without Java,
would be a difficult propositio to sell!
    Ofcourse, significant technical expertise in

  • Setting 1280x1024 Screen size in Jdeveloper 11.1.1.4 for development

    Hi All,
I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.4 to develop an ADF application. I want to develop UI screens for lowest screen resolution as (1280x1024). But in the JDeveloper IDE in the resolution dropdown, I can only see the following
    Full screen
    400x600
    600x800
    800x1200
    1024x768
    1280x720
    1600x1200
    1680x1050
Problem is most of the end-user (customers) screens have maximum resolution of 1280x1024. My development PC resolution is 1600x1200. Can I can use the full screen option in JDeveloper after setting my screen resolution to 1280x1024? Will it suffice or is there a way to set JDeveloper for 1280x1024 resolution in the IDE for development purpose.
    Thanks

I previously developed under full screen option and my PC resolution was 1600x1200. But when the application was ran on other screens it was displaying with some page contents being cut out. It was due to other machines running on lower resoultion. I will need now redesign the pages to run on user defined lower resolution of 1280x1024. How do I setup Jdeveloper design tab to show for 1280x1024.
    Thanks

  • Getting error while configuring WAS 7 Fix Pack 37 with Oracle Application Development Framework (Oracle JDeveloper 11.1.1.7.0)

    Hi,
I have installed Oracle Unified Directory 11.1.2.2.0 and WebSphere Application Server 7 with Fix Pack 37.
I am getting error while configuring WAS 7 Fix Pack 37 (7.0.0.37) with Oracle Application Development Framework (Oracle JDeveloper 11.1.1.7.0). While adding products to cell (Oracle Directory Services Manager for WebSphere - 11.1.2.2.0), I am getting below error:
CFGFWK-64069: The following prerequisites were found to be missing: Oracle WebCenter Composer Extension - 11.1.1.0
Also attached the screenshot of the error.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Himanshu Verma

    Hello,
ODSM has the following dependencies apart from ADF (both components depend also on ADF):
    - UIShell (oracle.idm.uishell.war)
    - Webcenter Composer (oracle.webcenter.composer.war).
    Apparently the composer is missing.
Important points to check when using ODSM with WAS:
    - To install and configure Oracle Fusion Middleware with IBM WebSphere, you must first install (but not configure) IBM WebSphere
    - You must install the Oracle Application Development Framework as the same user who installed Oracle Unified Directory.
    - appdev must be installed under the same ORACLE_HOME as OUD

Oracle applications are a set of pre-built applications that you can use for different tasks like Human Resource, Purchase Order, Customer Relationship Management.
The good thing is that the application is already built so you just buy it off the shelf.
JDeveloper lets you develop applications from scratch or customize existing applications.
So your basic question is "Buy vs. Build" - and this depends on whether you have the time and staff to build an HR application from scratch for example or would you rather spend your money on buying a packaged solution.
