Feasible to have high quality 2 hour vid on one dvd

I was trying to use i dvd 6 to burn a quicktime standard def video that is just over 2 hours long. I got it on the disc with about 100 megs to spare on the 4.7 gig dvd. Problem is some of my clips have significant distortion. Funny thing is when the same video was about 3 or 4 minutes less the final burn looked just fine. So I may try this with dvd studio 4.
My question is, is it feasible to get a good quality burn with dvd studio 4 with a video that is this long on a single dvd? Thanks.

It should be - DVDSP has an adjustment in the preferences to encode at any rate you want giving you the possibility to produce very long DVDs.
As an example, encoding at 4 Mbps would give you a DVD around 2 hours 20 minutes. A lower bitrate would give you longer.
Compressor also has pre-sets up to 150 minutes long, but once again you can set your own lower rate which will give even longer times.
Of course the quality will not be as good as a one hour DVD but it shouldn't have the video nasties you have described.

  • Fit a 2 hour iMovie on ONE DVD with iDVD??

I have a 2 hour movie in iMovie. I have shared it to iDVD and cannot burn it to one DVD. I've been told that other programs offer settings where I can lower the quality to fit it on one DVD... however I cannot find the settings in iDVD. I do see one setting where I choose from "Best performance, High Quality, or Professional Quality" ...it's already on Best Performance which I assume is the lowest quality. ANY IDEAS on how to change video in iMovie or iDVD?? Thanks!

The encoder settings you need is for 120 mins or less of QT playback which is High Quality (a bit of a misnomer IMO).
To paraphrase David Pogue's book on iDvd, with Best Performance, iDVD allots a pre-determined fixed amount of data to each frame of video, even if most of the disk will be empty. The burning process is faster and the quality is great. With Best Quality, iDVD uses the entire disk by analyzing the amount of video, dividing it into the amount of space available so that the amount of information in each individual frame varies from project to project. It takes longer to burn, but gives two hours of great video.
In regard to Roxio Toast, it does have an option for Fit to DVD in the form of a simple check box which is highly useful as well.

Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • 4 hour video on one DVD

    Hi.
I'm trying to put a four hour video on to one DVD. It was originally on one dvd so I must be able to put it back, right.
The reason it fitted on one disk is because it was in LP, or 336x256. But iDVD wants to change it into 720x576. Something that makes no sense, the quality isn't going to get any better, this is just a waste of space. But I can't seem to find a way to turn it down.

    Hi
Can't help with resolutions but just made a 3h DVD - NOT using iDVD but Roxio Toast™
    a. In Toast I made a Video_TS folder
    b. This I copied to DVD and selected Fit on One DVD disk
Result was better than I imagined.
    With iDVD You need
    • a more modern version of iDVD eg iDVD 09
    • a DVD burner capably of burning Double Layer DVDs
    • DL-DVDs
To me Roxio Toast™ was cheaper.

  • Help with getting high quality DVDs from AVCHD footage

    Hello,
I know enough about video editing with PE7 to be dangerous, and was hoping someone could help me out.
My question is regarding getting the highest quality standard DVD from AVCHD footage. I have a Sony HDR-SR12 camcorder recording in AVCHD. I am editing footage natively in AVCHD with PE7 on a quad core system. No problem with that. However, when I export to standard DVD the quality of the video goes down drastically. (Yes, I know burning to Blu-ray would give me higher quality, but I am giving this DVD to a friend who doesn't have Blu-ray).
So far I have tried starting my project in both HD 1080i 30 5.1 channel:
    General
    Editing mode: HDV 1080i
    Timebase: 29.97 fps
    Video Settings
    Frame size: 1440h 1080v (1.333)
    Frame rate: 29.97 frames/second
Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD Anamorphic 1080 (1.333)
    and Full HD 1080i 30 5.1 channel:
    General
    Editing mode: HD 1080i
    Timebase: 29.97 fps
    Video Settings
    Frame size: 1920h 1080v (1.000)
    Frame rate: 29.97 frames/second
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square Pixels (1.0)
But I see no discernable difference in the quality of my output onto DVD.
This is where my knowledge is lacking...how can I get the best quality output from my AVCHD onto a standard DVD? Is there some format I can convert to first, and then burn to DVD? Also, I am willing to break the footage into a couple of DVDs to improve the quality, but I don't know how or what to do for that.
My footage looks REALLY great when viewing from the HDR-SR12 direct to HD TV with HDMI cable, but not very good on the DVD. My footage is of a ballet recital, and I lose definition in the faces, costumes, etc on the DVD output.
    Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
    Gina

    Hey Gina,
This may be a year late, but as I have been pulling my hair out trying to solve this problem for the last 48 hours I finally did find somewhat of a work around, but it requires Adobe PP CS4.2.
    There is a plug-in here:
    http://www.mainconcept.com/site/prosumer-products-4/mpeg-pro-hd-7850/features-7861.html
Which will actually output your edit as an AVCHD file. You can then burn this straight to an AVCHD using Nero 9 and keep the highquality level of your clips and not need Blu-Ray. The DVD player will need to be AVCHD capable, but I just bought one of those for $40 as compared to the $200+ of most Blu-Ray players.
    Hope that helps.
    Regards,
    DSW

  • EPS preview in high quality?

I am needing to create EPS files that have high quality previews. I can do this in other programs with WMF previews. Is there any way to achieve this in Illustrator CS2 or CS?
    Thanks in advance.

There is no such thing built-in., though there may be some Explorer extension like similar to QuickView that can provide this facility. Other than that get an image viewer software like IrfanView or XnView and the GhostScript package that goes with them...

  • Youtube "High Quality" Setting

Youtube has the High Quality option for some clips on youtube that are 640x480.
Is there anyway for appletv to select this option if not how do I let the devs know to implement this RIGHT AWAY.

    gordymac wrote:
It was my understanding that AppleTV defaulted to the high quality option, if not avaiable then it shows the crappier version.
That's my understanding as well. I've actually been pleasantly surprised with the quality of some of the YT vids on my aTV/plasma.
Here's a little tip for the YouTubers out there......
(This tip is applicable on YT's website, not through aTV.)
On most any video on YT where a "High Quality" tag is not offered, simply take the url for that vid and add "&fmt=18". Don't enter the quotations.
    Here's a good example......
One of those Mac/PC adds in Standard def........
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=KNnX6XRQBec
(Notice how there's not an option for "High Quality" on that vid.
Same vid but with HQ code........
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=KNnX6XRQBec&fmt=18
(Notice how now there's an option for "Standard Quality".)
If you're really a YT fan, this might be useful to you.
    Enjoy.

I really need this issue resolved it is driving me insane!!! How can the images appear perfectly fine on my laptop then when transferring over to a USB stick they just  corrupt!?

    Check out this site:

That will show you how to format a USB stick for use on both PC and Mac.
If the problem continues take it to an Apple store and have them check it out.

    From:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExFAT
"exFAT (Extended File Allocation Table) is a Microsoft file system optimized for flash drives.[3] It is proprietary and patented."
That first site explains it at length.

    9 hours??!
Twice the length of a cinema epic?
How are you expecting to distribute it?
    iDVD encoding settings:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/11417.html
    Short version:
Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)
That was for single-layer DVDs. Double these numbers for dual-layer DVDs.
Professional Quality: The Professional Quality option uses advanced technology to encode your video, resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned abo
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.

When I am editing, I have noticed that sometimes my images and clips have a drastically higher quality in the viewer than the canvas/timeline, what is causing this, and how do I edit and export my films with the highest quality possible?

    >Why does my clip have a higher quality in the viewer than the canvas?
The answer is very simple; the Viewer shows the media at its native resolution while the Canvas shows the media at the Sequence resolution.  I'd bet that in your case, the original media is of higher resolution that the Sequence in the Timeline.

  • Bridge only shows "high quality thumbnails" even if i have "quick thumbs" selected under preferences

I have tried using the options "Convert To High Quality When Previewed" and "quick thumbnails" under preferences, and closed and restarted bridge after changing each option, but to no avail.
bridge only shows high quality thumbs even with other options selected.
    any ideas?

After the thumbnails have been created using the option
i Convert To High Quality When Previewed
then reverting back to the option
    i Quick Thumbnails
won't "downsize" the cached thumbnails; the high-quality thumbnails will still show. To see low-quality (quick) thumbnails, turn to another folder with images with no thumbnails yet created, or purge the thumbnail cache. Simply closing and restarting won't purge the cache.

It sounds as if the Artboard is 8 x 10. It should fit the Artwork (at 5 x 7).

  • I've reduced my project size to "high quality," with a resulting 2.42GB size and 78 minutes project time. With my 4.7GB dvd, I should now have more than sufficient space, but I still get 'Your project exceeds the maximum content duration."

Am I simply out of luck? The video itself is 65 minutes with pretty simple music and photos in the themes with no scene selection option.
    Thanks.

You should check that the Project settings match the clip settings before editing them to the Timeline.
Only newly created Projects will change not existing ones by adjusting the Project settings.
If, for example, you have a Project set to NTSC DV you can only end up in trouble if the clips are PAL 1920 x 1080i.
