Fetch excel file from app. server using open dataset...

Hello Experts,
Our functional consultant is asking me if it possible to get an excel file from the
application server file using OPEN dataset and in background mode? If yes, Please tell me on how to do this.

to download this the procedure:
you can use the FM 'EXCEL_OLE_STANDARD_DAT ' for this purpose.
this FM 'EXCEL_OLE_STANDARD_DAT' can be used to start Excel with a new sheet and transfer data from an internal table to the sheet.
Here are some of the parameters:
file_name: Name and path of the Excel worksheet file e.g. ?C:TEMPZTEST?
data_tab: Name of the internal table that should be uploaded to Exvcel
fieldnames: Internal tabel with column headers
How to build the field names table:
data: begin of i_fieldnames occurs 20,
field(60), end of i_fieldnames.
i_fieldnames-field = ?This is column 1?. append i_fieldnames-field.
i_fieldnames-field = ?This is column 2?. append i_fieldnames-field.
to upload follow this:

I have uploaded file in to application server through a program using open data set with the separater as "|" ( pipe ) . Now the user should be able to download the file from apps server to presenataion server in .XLS format using txn CG3Y. but when we download, the format appears wierd and the data is not consistent across columns in excel. i.e the data which is supposed to be in one column in the excel is in the other column. what precautaions should i take before moving data to apps server so that it will be downloaded in a good format.

Separate each values with TAB space present in the application server .
Currently u r using | pipe character. Instead of that use CL_ABAP_CHAR_UTILITIES=>HORIZONTAL_TAB as delimiter.
Each value will displayed in separate cells in excel sheet when u download it frm app.server

Upload xml file from aplication server using read dataset, parser error.

I would like to upload xml file from app. server but parser failed. If I upload this xml file from workstation (using ws_upload) it is correct. For uploading xml file from app. server I use open dataset... read dataset. In loop section I remove '#' char. How do You upload xml file from app server? What Could be incorrect.

What happened?
    At the conversion of a text from codepage '4110' to codepage '4102':
    - a character was found that cannot be displayed in one of the two
    codepages;
    - or it was detected that this conversion is not supported
    The running ABAP program 'ZHDI_LOMM_VEHI_MAT_MASS_CREATE' had to be terminated
     as the conversion
    would have produced incorrect data.
    The number of characters that could not be displayed (and therefore not
    be converted), is 449. If this number is 0, the second error case, as
    mentioned above, has occurred.
Error analysis
    An exception occurred that is explained in detail below.
    The exception, which is assigned to class 'CX_SY_CONVERSION_CODEPAGE', was not
     caught in
    procedure "F_DATA_UPLOAD" "(FORM)", nor was it propagated by a RAISING clause.
    Since the caller of the procedure could not have anticipated that the
    exception would occur, the current program is terminated.
    The reason for the exception is:
    Characters are always displayed in only a certain codepage. Many
    codepages only define a limited set of characters. If a text from a
    codepage should be converted into another codepage, and if this text
    contains characters that are not defined in one of the two codepages, a

Unable to create a file in Application Server using OPEN DATASET stattement.

I am unable to create a file in Application Server using the following statement.
OPEN DATASET filename FOR OUTPUT
IN TEXT MODE ENCODING DEFAULT
MESSAGE msg.
The message I'm getting is "Permission Denied". I have checked authorisation using SU53 which says "The last authorization check was successful". Please help.

Error while reading excel file from application server into internal table.

My requirement is to read an excel file from application server into internal table.
Hence I have created an excel file fm_test_excel.xls in desktop and uploaded to app server using CG3Z tcode (as BIN file type).
Now in my program I have used :
OPEN DATASET v_filename FOR INPUT IN text mode encoding default.
DO.
READ DATASET v_filename INTO wa_tab.
The statement OPEN DATASET works fine but I get a dump (conversion code page error) at READ DATASET statement.
Error details:
A character set conversion is not possible.

Try to use OPEN DATASET v_filename FOR INPUT IN BINARY mode encoding default. instead of OPEN DATASET v_filename FOR INPUT IN text mode encoding default.
As I think you are uploading the file in BIN format to Application server and trying to open text file.

1) As far as i know there are no FMs to read a file from App server, you can do the same using *OPEN/READ/CLOSE dataset ABAP statements - There are tons of examples for this on the net.
and print the PDF file or send it as an attachment in an email?
You can send the file read from the app server(by the suggested method above) and use CL_BCS to send it as an attachment.
Again there are many examples on the net on how to use CL_BCS for the same.

1. Using open data set, transfer , close etc,
   also it will work.
   ( it will download / upload any kind of file from app server)
2. Just make sure the
   FULL PATHNAME and the FILENAME
   are mentioned in EXACT CASE
(small/CAPITAL).
3. U can check thru transaction AL11, to see the file and path.

System exception while deleting the file from app server in background job

I have a issue while the deleting the file from application server.
I am using the statement DELETE DATASET in my program to delete the file from app server.
I am able to delete the file from the app server when i run the program from app server.
When i run the same report from background job i am getting the message called System exception.
Is there any secuirity which i need to get the issue.

I get all the authorization sto delete the file from application serever.
Thing is i am able to run the program sucessfully in foreground but not in the background .
It i snot giving any short dump also just JOB is cancelled with the exception 'Job cancelled after system exception ERROR_MESSAGE'.

I am trying to upload the data from application server into an internal table.
My requirement is I need to validate the data before I upload the data into internal table.(i.e I open the file from application server using FM Open_Dataset.Now before I upload the data into an internal table,I need to first validate each record in the file).I have some 7-8 lakhs of records in the file.
Any input for the above requirement would be of great help

First you read the file in output mode using Open dataset and Read dataset statement with the initial application server path.
Then write this data back to another file path by opening the file in Input mode and using Transfer statement.
Example.
