Fex 2000 connecting to nexus 7k/5k

Hello All,
We are connecting one fex 2000 to two nexus 5k. I have prepared a simple configuration after consulting the various cisco pages on this.
On first nexus 5k:-
int Po100
 des FEX-2232-1
 vpc 100
 switchport mode fex-fabric
 fex associa 100
 no shut
int eth1/1
 des FEX-2232-1
  switch mode fex-fabr
  fex associ 100
  channe-gr 100
  no shut
================
On second nexus 5k:-
int Po100
 des FEX-2232-1
 vpc 100
 switchport mode fex-fabric
 fex associa 100
 no shut
int eth1/1
 des FEX-2232-1
  switch mode fex-fabr
  fex associ 100
  channe-gr 100
  no shut
Is the above configuration correct?
The other doubt is; when configuring is it required to create the Po100 first before applying the channel-group command on the physical interfaces?
Or can the channel-group be directly applied to physical interface ( without the Po being created )?
Appreciate help on this please. Thanks in advance.

suthomas1,
The config is correct. I'm using the same config here so stable and resilient.
No, its not required to create the po100 before applying the channel-group command on the phy-int.
Be careful with bpdu in fex access ports.
Reagards,
Gus Magno

  • Connecting the nexus 5500 with multiple vsans

    Hi,
it's my first experience in the fibre channel world and i have a few doubts about the best way to connect the nexus 5500 to a EMC storage.
    This is my scenario
    this is my configuration:
    vsan database
    vsan 2
    vsan 2 interface fc 1/1
    vsan 3
    vsan 3 interface fc 1/2
    interface fc1/1
    switchport mode f
    no shut
    interface fc1/2
    switchport mode f
    no shut
now I don't know how can I connect the port fc1/3 to the vnx storage, I think I can't make a trunk like ethernet, can anyone help me?
Or i only can do this with zoning
    Thanks
    Fred

    Hello Fred,
All interfaces must be in the same vsan for them to see each other
    vsan database
    vsan 2 interface fc1/1, fc1/2, fc1/3
    exit
Then you can zone each separately
    example:
    zone name host1 vsan 2
    member pwwn 11:11:11:11:11:11:11:11    (host1 pwwn)
    member pwwn 33:33:33:33:33:33:33:33    (VNX)
    zone name host2 vsan 2
    member pwwn 22:22:22:22:22:22:22:22    (host2 pwwn)
    member pwwn 33:33:33:33:33:33:33:33    (VNX)
    zoneset name Zoneset1 vsan 2
    mem host1
    mem host2
zoneset activate name Zoneset1 vsan 2
    Thanks

  • Connecting two Nexus switches with link

    Hi,
I would like to connect two nexus switches with a link. Like one c5020 and one c5548p. How do i need to configure the ports at both the switches which will be joined with a fiber cable.
For MDS switches such links becomes E-port and fabric is merged. Not sure what happenes at the Nexus swictches. Any input will be appreciated.
    Thanks,

Do you have fc modules in each nexus? If so, they act much like the MDS 9148. All ports should be default auto speed and auto switchport mode. Insert fc-sfp's and a regular multimode fc cable between them. Default mode is fc switch.
If that doesn't work, configure the mode on each port as E.
Once done, the fc switch portion of each nexus will merge.

  • Could connect two Nexus 5648 to a stack of Catalyst 3750?

    Good Morning,
Can I connect a two Nexus 5600 (switchs distribution) with switch Catalyst 3750 (switch access)?
I have tried to integrate the Nexus switch in the network as switch distribution, replacing a Catalyst 6500 switch and does not work. Everything is going very slow. Although all the ping function properly.
Is there any incompatibility connect two nexus 5648 to a stack of Catalyst 3750 by VPC?
    Thank you.
    Greetings.

    Hi,
There can be many reasons for the switches not joining the stack like SDM template mismatch.
You may go through the following document:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750/software/troubleshooting/switch_stacks.html#wp40112
    Thanks

  • Servers connected to Nexus 5548 only getting 200 Mbps of throughput

Servers connected to NExus 5k were only getting 100 Mbps of throughput. So I disabled Flow control recieve on all the ports. After this we are getting 200 Mbps of speed. The servers are connected throuh 10 gig port. Could you guys please suggest why the throguhput is still low? Atleast we should get 1Gbps of thrpoughput.

    Hi Adam,
I think we probably need a little more information to go on. Can you answer the following?
What type of servers and NICs?
What OS are you running on the servers?
What cables do you have from the servers to the switch?
Are the two servers in the same subnet or is the traffic between them routed?
If routed, is that in the Nexus 5548 or some other router?
    How are you testing throughput?
Presumably you're not seeing any errors on the switch ports that the servers are connected to?

  • Connecting two Nexus 5020 with 10G ISL link

    Hi Experts,
I am trying to connect two nexus 5020 with a 10G ISL link.
Per my understanding, with new release 5.0.3 N2(2a) ISL link between two nexus switch is supported.
    Following is my config
    c5020-1(config)# show running-config int vfc 32
    !Command: show running-config interface vfc32

    c5020-1(config)#
    c5020-1(config)# sho running-config int eth1/32
    !Command: show running-config interface Ethernet1/32

    interface Ethernet1/32
      switchport mode trunk
      spanning-tree port type edge trunk
    c5020-1(config)#
I have similar config on the other switch. But for some reason the link does not come up. vfc port keep "initializing" and Eth port stays isolated.
    c5020-1(config)# sh int vfc32
vfc32 is trunking (Not all VSANs UP on the trunk)
        Bound interface is Ethernet1/32

    c5020-1(config)#
If any expert throw some light to make me understand things better will be helpful.

i have not connected two Nexus before but looking at your eth 1/32 interfaces ..do you think it needs to be "
switchport trunk allowed vlan" your "FCOE" VLAN ?

  • Very low transfer speed issue on SUN4270 M2 server connected with nexus 5548 switch on 10GB fiber.

                       Hi,
I have 2 SUN 4270 M2 servers connected with Nexus 5548 switch over 10Gb fiber card. I am getting performance of just 60 MB per second while transfer of 5Gb file across 2 servers. The similar speed i use to get on 1Gb network also. Please suggest how to improve the tranfer speed. On servers, ports ET4 and ETH5 are bonded in bond0 with mode=1. The server envrionment will be used for OVS 2.2.2.

    Hi,
Thanks for reply..but the RX errors count is keep on increasing and the transfer speed between 2 servers are max 60MB/ps on 10GB FC card. Even on storage also, i am getting the same speed when i try to transfer data from server to storage on 10GB FC card. Servers and storage are connected through Nexus 5548 switch.

  • The meaning of Interface Ethernet250/1 under the Nexus 2000 is connected to Nexus 5000 switch

    Dear all,
Recently, I prepared and deploy a network monitoring system to monitor the new generation Nexus connected network.  With using snmpwalk to query the interfacs information from the Nexus 5000 switch (one Nexus 2000 is connected to it via FlexLink), I found that other than normal Nexus 5000 and 2000 ports(ifName to be Ethernet1/1, Ethernet1/2, ... Ethernet190/1/1, Ethernet190/1/2...), a series of interface with ifName Ethernet250/1, Ethernet250/2, .... to be appeared in the interface SNMP tree.   With logged into the Nexus 5000 and issue display interface command, I can only found the information on the normal interfaces but not the abnormal interface Ethernet250/1, ...
Would someone know what is it (do E250/1 is a logical interface like port channel or VLAN) and how to monitor it ?  Thanks in advances.

I've not seen that myself. Could it perhaps be a VPC (Virtual Portchannel)?

So I want to connect the 4 N2K to the two F2 line cards in a redundant fasion, can some one tell me the best practice of how to connect those N2Ks?
I have read somewhere that I can only use two ports from each 4 shared ports but I am not sure if this is true. I will appreciate any input or a link.
    Thanks

That was Awesome link! Thanks indeed.
So can you please confirm if I am following the F2 + FEX rule
Again, I have only one Nexus 7009 and 4 x N2K , so I have two F2 cards on the Nexust 7009. Here is my connectivity plan:
    1st N2K to port 1 on the first F2
    1st N2K to port 1 on the second F2
    2nd N2K to port 2 on the first F2
    2nd N2K to port 2 on the second F2
    3rd N2K to port 3 on the first F2
    3rd N2K to port 3 on the second F2
    4rth N2K to port 4 on the first F2
    4rth N2K to port 4 on the second F2
So eventually , I am planning to use one group (4 ports) on each F2 card for all the connectivity to those N2K Switches.
Also, I will have a total of 4 port channels .. right ? 1 Port channel for each N2K
    I will appreciate your feedback!

  • Nexus 5000/2000 connected to ESX host with 2 teamed NICS

    Hi,
I have a question regarding a configuration we have in our Datacenter (see above)
The issue is with the Server configuration on the switch (Please note this is an ESX host with 2 NICs (active/active, same vSwitch), 1 NIC each connected to a different FEX)
Currently we have removed the 'channel-group x' from under the individual ports on each FEX and have full connectivity, i.e. no vPC configuration, how can this be working?
    Rgds
    Jake

ESX uses per default the following NIC-teaming method:
"Route based on the originating port ID"  - Also know as vSwitch port-based load-balancing,  this method chooses an uplink based on the virtual port where the  traffic entered the virtual switch
    (check out this PDF: http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/virtual_networking_concepts.pdf)
With this method you don't need to configure a channel on your Nexus switches. If you configure a port-channel (vPC) you should reconfigure the ESX vSwitch teaming to "Route based on IP hash" and make sure your port-channels on the nexus are configured as static ports (mode on) because ESX is not able to do LACP.

  • Nexus 56K and FEX 2232TM - connect a router to the FEX?

Hi I know the recommendation a couple of years back was only to connect servers to FEX ports. Is this still the case? Is anyone connecting devices other than servers to FEX ports? Is there any good reason I could not connect a router to my FEX 2232 TM and form a layer 3 adjacency with an SVI on the parent 5K?
(going to post this in DC as well as it is relevant to both)
    Any assistance would be great,
    Thanks
    Rays

    Hi Rays,
The function should be the same for all FEXs regardless of what parent switch they connect to. to.
if you are referring to this comment:
You can connect any edge switch that leverages a link redundancy mechanism not dependent on spanning tree such as Cisco FlexLink or vPC
FelxLink is a different technology that does not use STP, but not every switch platform supports FelxLink. FlexLink is not used very often, as other technologies like VSS, VPC and stacking has emerged.

Don't know if anyone is still having problems with this, but just in case...
I was getting a similar error. I had an Event Viewer record (It wasn't a Warning or an Error, just an Information) reading:You are running a version of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (also called MSDE) that has known security vulnerabilities when used in conjunction with this version of Windows. To reduce your computer's vulnerability to certain virus attacks, the TCP/IP and UDP network ports of Microsoft SQL Server 2000, MSDE, or both have been disabled. To enable these ports, you must install a patch, or the most recent service pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or MSDE from http://www.microsoft.com/sql/downloads/default.asp

I installed SQL SP4 and it corrected the problem

    Its good to you,
I am having a similar problem: I get ORA-28508 from oracle gateway. When I try to connect mssql server from sqlplus.
Everything goes fine when I connect on port 1433. So I think the root of my problem is that I specify the port number in the wrong way:
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO="address='hostname/instancename' port='1106'"
If your problem was similar or the same, then you could help me by by posting your solution.
    Cheers,

As per the error message it seems like the SQL 2000 Services has been stopped running due to login issue. You need to start up the service using a valide login.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa176564(v=sql.80).aspx
Here we have the various ways to start up the services
