FF loses $_SESSION data

Hello, I set an session variable in my index.php, say
session_start(); $_SESSION['test']='hello';
I call another skript on the server via AJAX that includes something like:
session_start(); echo ($_SESSION['test']);
This will result in the output of "hello" for some time.
I have a timer running to call the AJAX function every 20secs and sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after a few hours, FF loses the session variable.
In other words, $_SESSION['test'] is not set anymore.
I can echo session_id(); and verify, that the session is still runing, so does the session cookie, but the complete $_SESSION array is lost.
Any ideas?
Regards, Chris.

It is my understanding that the browser's role is limited to sending the cookie. If the associated session gets messed up, that sounds like a server/PHP problem...
Do your logs show any unexpected requests for another script that could possibly affect $_SESSION['test']?

  • I just updated my I pad and now it wont open and says that I have to restore it back to factory setting and will lose all my data on I pad, all I did was try to update I dont wont to lose my data as I am not sure if I have back up my photos

I have just updated my Ipad mini the latest version (so I am told) but it has stopped my I pad from working and it says that I have to restore it back to factory settings etc. and will lose my data as I dont know whether I have fully back up my photos which I dont wont to lose what do I do??????????????????

If it's in recovery mode, the data is already gone. Why did you never back up your important data?

  • Race conditions - can you actually lose the data in memory?

I've seen posts where a race condition can actually destroy the contents of a global memory. I understand about not getting the right information if your read just beats your write, but can it actually lose the data altogether? This would mean you have to semaphore every time you write to a global if you have something polling on it to guarantee the data doesn't get lost. I've never seen this in any example programs - its hard to believe!

I think the idea is merely that when you write to a global (or any)
variable the previous contents are overwritten. If you intended to read the
global before the write but the write ends up happening first then you lose.

  • My daughters ipod 4th gen will no longer charge past 20% and will not connect to a pc in order to back everything up. the cable is working fine, otherwise it would not even charge to the 20%. i have tried the reset to not lose any data and no luck. help!

my daughters ipod 4th gen will no longer charge past 20% and will not connect to a pc in order to back everything up. the cable is working fine, otherwise it would not even charge to the 20%. i have tried the reset to not lose any data and no luck, home+power for 10-15 seconds. I really would like to not lose everything she has, again, because I can't back it up this time. I have tried charging via a wall outlet and PC and both charge fine, just only to 20%. I am using the cable that came with it so no aftermarket issues there. Please help so I don't have to reset everything again.

Because once it has charged enough to be powered on as soon as you turn it on it says battery is at 20% and will not charge anymore after that, it just runs for about 5-10 minutes before the battery dies again. The battery cycles discharge/recharge daily and its not on the charger at full charge for more than a couple hours and is never totally dead for more than a couple of hours.

  • I had an unauthorized purchase on my old apple ID so I created a new one since the old one had been deactivated and now I cannot update any of my apps, I have read that the apps will be tied to the old account but I do not want to delete/lose their data

I had an unauthorized purchase on my old apple ID so I created a new one since the old one had been deactivated and now I cannot update any of my apps, I have read that the apps will be tied to the old account but since the old one was deactivated I cant update them and I do not want to delete/lose their data, re download, and start all over again. Is there anyway to go around this issue?
    thanks

Ask Apple to re-enable it. I had an unauthorized purchase last October. They disabled my account until the problem was solved. However, I asked them to reopen it, and they just asked me to provide some security information (billing address, a recent purchase you made, etc.), and then they re-enabled it.

You can't reformat it and not wipe everything on it.
Have you tried a different USB port?
Only other option, back it up on a different computer.

Please, I need your help for this issue it is very important to me to get back my data, i will pay any charges.
hope to hear good news soon from you.
    George

it is incomprehensible to me why, if you had important data on your phone, you never backed it up using any of the dozen or so means of backup and sync that Apple offers. We are 4 decades into the personal computer revolution, and I would have thought that there wasn't anyone left who did not understand that backups are an essential part of the responsibility of using a computing device.

  • Upgrading from 10.4.11 to 10.5.6 - Will I lose any data or application?

    Hi gang,
I forgot that I have a 10.5.6 family upgrade disc. I've upgraded my kid's Mac Mini and was not sure about upgrading my MacBook Pro then.
So I'm thinking I should upgrade my MacBook Pro now but I am not sure if I will lose any data or application (and application specific information). Can you folks please clarify and/or provide best way to perform the upgrade?
I use my MacBook Pro on a daily basis from office document, browsing, audio recording and editing, video editing and photo editing that I can't imagine my MacBook Pro having a problem.
I'm also hoping that with the upgrade, my Superdrive will somehow come back to life and be useful again.
    Here's my MacBook Pro info:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP31.0070.B07
    SMC Version: 1.16f11
    Sudden Motion Sensor:
    State: Enabled

I'm also hoping that with the upgrade, my Superdrive will somehow come back to life and be useful again.
    Unlikely.
That usually means a hardware problem. No operating system update will fix hardware problems.
I'd get it fixed by an authorized service center. If you are in the U.S. there are places that can do it cheaper if you are out of warranty:

Before doing any upgrade, backup your data*:

That way you avoid the risk of losing everything.

  • IPod Touch has been synced with another Library- can't lose any data!!

Okay so I have my iTunes Media Folder on an external drive to save some space on my Hard drive. This just works fine, but yesterday I accidentally messed up my Media folder. Luckily, I got all my music, videos, apps etc back in original form, however when I wanted to sync my iPod Touch with My iTunes, I got a message saying that my iPod touch could only be used with one library and that I'd have to erase it! I have LOTS of app data and saved games (over 300 apps)... so is there any way I can make it sync without erasing? Help is appreciated!

Apps are not an issue since you can always redownload them for no additional cost if you are signed into the same iTunes account that purchased them originally. You can also transfer iTunes purchases to the computer. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 (redownload)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 (transfer)
It appears that iTunes now sees the fixed media library as new library. Is the computer authorized for the iTunes account on the iPod (Go to the Store tab in iTunes). On your computer if you go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices do you see a backup for your iPod? With you iPod connected to your computer if you right click on on your iPod under devices do you have an option to backup your iPod.
If you can backup your iPod and transfer purchases then you can restore the iPod using the backup and then sync. If You can't backup but have the backup already then you may be able to restore from backup. If you can't make a backup and one does not exist I know of no way not to lose yur data saved in your app.

I have a Western Digital external hard drive that needs to be re formatted for use on my iMac, but I do not want to lose existing data, is this possible ?

Formatting a disk always erases all the data on it. Your only option is to back it up elsewhere and restore it once formatted.
