Field text problem creating a PDF form

Hi,
This might be a stupid question, but I just created a form using Adobe Designer 7.0 and when I preview the PDF, there's the lette "T" that appear in front of every dynamic text field. How can I remove that so I don't see it when I open the form to fill it?
Thank you in advance

Thanks for responding.
It's a T in front of the text field. Here's a screen capture of what it looks like.

I made a form in FormsCentral which was saved as a pdf. I got a filled in form from my colleague and the text in the fields does not show. Only when you mark a specific field the text in that filed appears but dissapears again when you select something else. What could be the problem here?

Yes, it was filled with Mac Viewer which caused the problem. The original form had to be refilled using Adobe Reader.

You can set up a temporary button (or link, bookmark, etc.) and add the following JavaScript action:
// Mouse Up script for a temporary button (or bookmark, etc.)
// Change the font and font size for all text fields in this document
    for (var i = 0; i < numFields; i += 1) {
        var f = getField(getNthFieldName(i));
        if (f.type === "text") {
            f.textFont = font.Helv;
            f.textSize = 9;
It also sets the font size, but you can remove that line if you don't need to do that.

May be that the text fields are read-only.

I'm fairly new to this, but I think it has to do with the way you have the drop downs named. Did you copy one then keep pasting it in each field? If so, that is the problem. You should rename each one with a different number: Dropdown1, Dropdown2, etc. I think that might solve the issue.

Basically you would need Acrobat. However, it is now also possible to create basic form fields using just the free Reader. In fact, I've been working on a tool that allows you to do it, so if you're interested in it please contact me privately.

  • Formatting text within a distributable pdf form

    Hi all,
I am using LiveCycle Designer 8.0 to create a pdf form for people to fill out. I want them to be able to use rich text for their responses so that, for example, they can italicize or underline the text that they're entering within the text fields.
Within LiveCycle, I've made the fields rich text (instead of plain text), and, in fact, you can use rich text when filling out the form with Acrobat.  The problem is that, after the form is submitted with Acrobat, the text reverts back to plain text and all formatting is lost (so, for example, someone can fill out the form using bold, underline, italics, different fonts and typefaces, etc., but once (s)he submits the form and it is sent to me, i only see what they filled out in plain text).
Does anyone think they can help?  I've checked the forums for similiar posts, like this one, but haven't come across solutions for my situation.
    Thanks in advance

The form is set to submit the entire pdf file (that is, the pdf, with the fields completed, is sent to my inbox in an email message, and, upon opening the pdf, i have the option of adding the data/completed fields to a dataset).  Unfortunately, the pdf seems to lose any formatting once it's submitted.
You're right--perhaps i should also ask in the LiveCylce Designer forum.
    Thanks

  • Creating a PDF form from a docx or xlsx

    Hello,
Pulling my hair out over here... Can you help me out?
I am trying to create a PDF form from either a word or an excel file.
When I choose File > Create > PDF Form, I get the dialouge box asking to use either a file or scan from paper. Choosing file, then hitting next shows the choice of current document or browse for file. I browse for file, find my docx file, but it shaded out. Docx or xlsx does not appear in the "show" drop down below, which suggests that this function doesn't support these formats. HUH?
I have read & watched the tutorials linked below, both of which clearly say Word and Excel are supported.
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/acrobat/pro/using/WSB3F26303-0F1D-494a-BC55-7BF7F6684B4D.html
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-acrobat-x/getting-started-creating-simple-forms/
Then I noticed a difference in the create window from the video, to my version...
The video says "(PDF, Word, Excel or other file format)":
    My pop-up says ONLY PDF:
    Whats going on?
    I am using:
    MAC OSX 10.7.4
    Office 2011 MAC
    Acrobat X Pro 10.1.3
Only way I can create a Form from Word files is to first print it to PDF, then use the form wizard on the PDF file... Which seems to have POOR results in auto-recognizing fields.
    PLEASE HELP Adobe!
    Thanks.

I just got Acrobat X for my mac, for a class.  I am SO frustrated.  Almost everything in the class focuses on PDFMaker options.   The 'save as adobe pdf' or save as pdf options have zero functionality.  So I now own PDF software that doesn't really function on a MAC, and have to go to a windows machine.  I keep reading that it is a Microsoft problem, but I don't know how that can be when the software I thought I bought is this fancy PDF software that converts everything!!
I asked a tech today if there were 'any' adobe work-arounds for this and basically the answer is to save PDF with no attribute functionality.  Period.

  • Text gets hidden on PDF form

I have created a PDF form with Acrobat Pro 9 and saved it as a form extending its features to Reader.
When I open the form with Reader 9 it allows me to fill in the fields but I can only see text in the field I am clicked on. Any previous fields I have typed text into is hidden (invisible) as soon as I click on another field.
I tried selecting all the fields and changing the background to a random color and then back to a non-colour and saving that form. When I opend it in Reader I was able to see all the text that I input and I though it was fixed. But when you close the file and save it and then reopen it, all the text is hidden again until you click on each field to be able to see it.
Does anyone know what's going on?

    Hi Larry,
I don't use Preview to view PDFs. Acrobat Pro 9 is my default PDF viewing application.
For the project I'm doing I created the form in Acrobat Pro and filled in the form in Acrobat Reader (which worked properly after changing the background color of the fields), but now when the file is opened in Reader you can see all the text in the fields, but when that same file is opened in Pro you can't see the text in the fields until clicked on. I attach two screen shots of the exact same file opened in Reader and open in Pro.
I understand that Preview and other applications that open PDFs may not be able to view/edit forms properly created with Acrobat (which is a pity), but I would of thought there would not be and issue between Adobe products.
    Regards, Tim

  • How do I create a Pdf form for others?

I have finally figured out how to make a pdf form, but my client wants to be able to attach the file to his e-mail and send it to his relations.
How do I create a pdf form with his adress in stead of my own e-mailaccount?
Tried to adjust my id in the preferences on my Mac, but that is not a safe way I guess...
Can anybody help me out, I'm stuck...
    Bob

Yes, I want to enable the client's relations to be able to click on a link
in the pdf to automatically submit the pdf to his e-mail address.
Now a purple bar shows up when a 'relation' opens the pdf form.
In this bar is a button included for sending the form, but they have to
confirm the adding of their reaction to the 'reactions-file'. This refers to
the location where I authenticallly saved the file (on my hard disk).
I can adjust the reply e-mail adress by temporarily adjusting my id in
Acrobat preferences, but I don't know the future location of the reaction
    file.
It's a difficult question, but it's based on the question: Is it possible to
make a pdf form for somebody else; so they can send en receive the reactions
on their moment and their wanted location?

are you saying the email address is on the pdf as plain text? or are you

  • I've created a PDF form using Adobe acrobat. I created the forms from a PDF that I made using pages

I've created a PDF form using Adobe acrobat. I created the forms from a PDF that I made using pages and word on Mac running Mountain lion. How do I allow the user of the form to insert JPEG files when filling out the form and how do I allow the user to add more fields or groups of fields as needed.

The type of form yo're describing is possible if you create it in LiveCycle Designer. It may also be possible in Acrobat, but there are certain restrictions. The type of form is known as a dynamic XFA form. LiveCycle Designer is not available on the Mac, so you'd have to install the software on a Windows machine and learn how to create this type of form. The LiveCycle Designer forum here is a good resource for getting more help.
Reader 11 now supports creating new pages using templates with a form that you create in Acrobat (Acroform). This requires some JavaScript programming. It also adds support for using a button to display a page from a PDF, which can be an image or anything else a PDF can be. So the user would click a button, be prompted to import a page from an existing PDF, and the button (or a different button) displays it as its icon. This would require the user to convert the image to PDF first, which is relatively easy these days (e.g., using Preview on the Mac, or Word on Mac/Windows). This too involves a bit of JavaScript programming, but it's very simple and straightforward.

  • Intermittent problem saving a pdf form

I have created a 17 page PDF form in LiveCycle Es with many dynamic features, such as adding or subtracting more lines to a table.  The whole document is about 700KB ( 800 after being partially filled in) in size.  I put fillable password protection on it and ran it thru Adobe Extension, checking Basic Fill-in and Final.
Most users are happy with it except two people are having problems saving it to their computer.  Both downloaded it from Firefox to their computers, then opened it and began typing.  Sometimes they are able to save their work and other times not.  One was able to do a Save As and rename it, but that didn't even work for the other.  One was getting an error message saying to the effect that the volume for the file was externally altered and cannot be saved.
They are both using Reader 8 or 9 and one has Vista while the other has XP.  I have downloaded the form at work and at home and cannot duplicate their problem so I suspect the problem is at their end.
Any ideas of what could be causing this?

I think have a similar question as you answered here.  But I want to just make sure I am understanding your response.
I have created a PDF form in LiveCycle and saved it as an Adobe Static PDF form.  When I supply this form to my users.  The only way they can fill it out and save it is they must have Adode ACROBAT.   The free Adobe Reader will not allow a user to fill out the form and then save it electronically.    They can only fill out the form in Reader and then print it out. Is this correct?
So any one I want to fill out the form and save it electronically will need to have Adobe Acrobat and at least the Standard addition...which costs money.

  • Creating editable PDF forms in Acrobat

I need to create digital PDF forms, a document with fields that can be filled in by anyone using the free Acrobat Reader.
I'm currently using Acrobat Pro (version 10.1.13) for Mac, but it will not allow me to do that, or perhaps I can't work it out. Here's a link to the tutorial I followed: https://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-to-create-editable-form-fields
I'm willing to upgrade, if a more recent version of Acrobat will allow me to do that.
    Please help!
    Many thanks, Mary

Whatever issues you have, have nothing to do with your version of Acrobat. Beyond that your info is simply too vague. just saying that it doesn't work is never a good way to ask for help. Either way, ask in the Acrobat forum.

  • Create Interactive PDF Form

    Hello,
How can i create interactive PDF Form i.e. AcroForm Programmatically using Acrobat SDK

    Sandyrock -
I wonder jow you might mean this -
If by interactive you mean - being able to programmatically update certain fields on a form the SDK is really good for that - also
there is another way to fill out an entire from from an external data source:
using an XFA form and creating an XML data file programmatically that maps to the form fields - This way you update an entire field at once based on the data that is in an XML data file.
It depends on what it is that you are attempting whether one of the approaches is better suited to your needs.
