File extension default no longer enabled while saving

Similar to Gregg Riley's StarOffice experience, I recently noticed that default saves for various (but not all) StarOffice "pulldown file type" selections no longer save with the correct-default extension.
I now (sometimes) have to type in the correct extension, re-check the "automatic file name extension," or re-name the file (adding the extension) after the file was saved.
I am fairly certain that this behavior has only recently begun, and wonder what could cause this new behavior. Could this be a StarOffice bug or macro-virus, or a Windows XP/Vista bug or virus?
Could opening a corrupt StarOffice file cause this issue? Could a corrupt file "reset" the defaults and cause trouble saving and re-opening similar file types?
I am searching the posts for support tips, but have not yet found a "known problem."
Sure, I could have "unchecked" this feature during save, but I have no reason to "uncheck," so that's why I am wondering if this is a known problem/phenomena.

I am using Star Office Ver 9.10 Build 9399 on a Windows Vista operation system.Current SO9 is 9.1.1. When you are using VISTA, you must have your permissions set correctly.
If I use a file name on a ODT file ending in numeral "6", the file type becomes "type 6" and then the file won't open except using a text editor. I can't get the "Open with" options to even list the Star office apps, and it keeps offering Adobe PDF to open with or my Chrome Browser, and Word Pad.This sounds like operating system corruption.
I guess my next step will be to uninstall and reinstall the software off the latest web download, but for now I am working around this as I am on a big project and cant take time to screw around trying to redo things at this moment.If your problem is operating system corruption, it may be risky not to get to the root of the problem.

    When opening DIR files I get a long delay while Director "Builds True Type Fonts"
    Anyone know how to work around this?
    I've got all the fonts in my library and embedded in Director.  (Do I need to dump them from my DIR? Dump and reinstall?)

    Two bits of advice:
    1) Pare down your code to no more than 30-50 lines. Enough to compile and show the problem, but not so much as to make our eyes bleed, and for no one to want to read your post or help you.
    2) You would be wise not to state that your problem is "urgent". Even if it is urgent to you, realize that it is not urgent to us. Many here take offense to this as it implies to them that a) the poster thinks that his post is more important than everyone else's, and b) that the poster wants to put pressure on the volunteers who come here to help on their own free time. Just a friendly word of advice.
    I'll be happy to help when you've posted a reasonable amount of code. Good luck!

  • Unwanted File Download box in JSF - Problem while Saving State.

    Hi,
    I am having a situation wherin there are multiple command links dynamically generated in a dataTable.When I click on any one of the links a file download dialogue pops up to save/open a pdf doc.Irrespective of any operations on the download dialogue, if I click on anyother link (i.e this is the 2nd click on tat page)
    then the file download doesnt pop up and instead the page is refreshed.
    On the 3rd click , the file download again pops up.
    The code in the action method of the command link goes like this
    public void showPDF() {
    byte[] pdf = // gets the data from another place.
    FacesContext faces = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
              HttpServletResponse response = (HttpServletResponse) faces.getExternalContext().getResponse();
              response.setContentType("application/pdf");
              response.setContentLength(pdf.length);
              response.setHeader("Content-disposition", "attachment");
              response.setHeader("Cache-Control", "cache, must-revalidate");
              response.setHeader("Pragma", "public");

              } catch (IOException e) {
                        log.debug("IOException in viewPdf: " + e.toString());
         faces.responseComplete();
    }To fix the above problem ...I have included the following 2 lines of code just before invoking the responseComplete() method :
      StateManager stateManager = (StateManager)
                                                                    faces.getApplication().getStateManager();
         stateManager.saveSerializedView(faces);This solves the above problem but causes another problem for which I need help :
    There is a value change listener in my jsp.When I change the value in a drop down list in the same page, the file download dialogue is poping up. which shuld only pop up when am clicking any one of the command links.
    I debugged thru the code and found out that after the value change listener action method is finished executing it jumps and executes the above showPDF() method.
    Seems its something to do with saving of the client state.
    It will be of great help anyone can advise on this.

  • Changing file extension default application

    Hello, I periodically change my .avi and .mpg movies default "open with" application to VLC, but although the association change in first place, in a few days the default application mysteriously turn back to QuickTime.
    Is this a bug or an Apple QuickTime appropriative policy? Anyway, is there any way to change to VLC permanently?
    Thanks in advance
    iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Open one of your .avi or .mpg file's "Get Info" window. Pick a new "Open With" application and click the "Change All" button. Confirm your changes.
    From this point on (until you change it again) any time you double-click to open any of these files your chosen app will be used to play the file.
    You can temporarily override these settings by Control-clicking on a icon and choosing a different app from the pull down menu.

  • Why do the file extensions (.jpg .gif .png) no longer appear when I click on a previously saved image to use that image's file name (particularly important when saving a series of images using the same root name)?

    I save a lot of images using firefox, often times from a large batch or series of images. It used to be that I would click on a previously saved image and the entire file name including the file extension (i.e. image_example.jpg) would appear in the "save as" line. Now when I click on a previously saved file, the file name appears without the file extension (i.e. image_example). Which means I have to manually type .jpg every time. For a large collection of images that I am hoping to use the same root file name and then add chronological numbers at the end, this has become incredibly frustrating, especially as it is a previously unnecessary task.
    I am using a new Macbook Pro and maybe there's something Apple related to this...? It did not happen on my old PowerBook G4. I have file extensions turned on in System Preferences.
    It should be noted that I have searched high and low and have even gone into the Apple Genius Bar where they were just confused as I was and of course ended by urging me to use Safari (shocker!) as it has all kinds of new extensions and bells and whistles. I seriously feel alone on an island with this dumb, hard to google problem. Thanks so much for any help anyone out there might have.
    I mean: is this as simple as changing a setting in about:config?
    Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your response Mylenium, however like I mentioned multiple times, I did change all of my trackpad/scrolling settings in system preferences.  And if I wanted to use a normal mouse (or a tablet), I would've gotten an iMac instead of a MacBook Pro.  I travel often and work all over the place, not always with access to a decently sized workspace that would be required for using a mouse or tablet.

  • I have difficulty pasting text into the file name field(prefix only) while saving files.

    OS: WinXP sp3
    FF: 3.6.3
    I have difficulty pasting text into the file name field (prefix only) while saving files. example: File name is Pic123.jpg and I want to rename it ABC123.jpg and I have ABC loaded into the WinXPsp3 clipboard. When I highlight\right-click\delete "Pic" then attempt to paste the ABC, I get either no reaction, or upon multiple paste attempts, the ABC is appended to the end of the file, after the extension, as "Pic123.jpgABC". If I delete this unwanted suffix, or repeat the process several times, eventually I can delete the unwanted portion of the prefix and paste the desired text. Sometimes it works fine first try, but mostly it takes several tries. I'm using Firefox 3.6.3 but the problem existed in whatever previous version I had too. This issue only occurs when using the delete/paste; I can always manually change the name by typing. Thank you for your help.

    Thaks for the help guys.

    Hi,
    To confirm can you check commeting "getOADBTransaction().commit();" gives any error message?
    If yes then you can try the following option:
    Have you checked whether the "/" is changed to "\" in the dbc file?
    In the following two entries the slash has to be made as shown below:
    APPS_JDBC_URL=jdbc\:oracle\:thin\:@(DESCRIPTION\=(ADDRESS_LIST\=(LOAD_BALANCE\=YES)(FAILOVER\=YES)(ADDRESS\=(PROTOCOL\=tcp)(HOST\=10.100.503.6)(PORT\=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA\=(SERVICE_NAME\=VIS)))

  • Quicktime no longer exporting my movies with file extensions

    Hi all, QT is no longer exporting or saving movies with file extensions. The only way i can view extensions is to turn on all extensions in finder which means i get .app in my apps folder which i find looks naff, have i changed something to cause this?
    Cheers

    In the export or save dialog windows is a check box to "hide" the file extension.
    Remove that check mark.

  • Cannot set default programs for a file extension in Gnome

    After a gnome upgrade (cannot remember when), I can no longer set the default program for a particular file extension by right clicking the file in nautilus -> going to "properties" -> going to "open with" tab -> highlighting a program -> pressing "set as default".

    The program I was trying to set was totem for default video playback; wine had made windows media player the default player prior. Interestingly, once I installed gnome-mplayer; the default program changed to gnome-mplayer and I was then able to switch default programs. This error may be related to wine.

  • How to retain file name while saving file on archive servers

    Hi Experts,
    I am using function modules:
    ARCHIVOBJECT_CREATE_TABLE and ARCHIV_CONNECTION_INSERT for inserting a file to archive server and for linking it with a document.
    Then I am reading the URL using FM: SCMS_AO_URL_READ. When I get this URL and download that file, the file name will be always defaulted to 'pclHTTP.dll'. I debugged these FMs to a certain extent and found that this name comes from CREP_HTTP-HTTP_SCRPT table.
    Is there any way I can retain the file name while saving it so that when I read the URL it has correct file name in it?
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Anand Kolte

    Hi Max,
    In case when downloading one file it is fine. But if I want to download 10 files at once and later if I go to my downloads, every file will be having similar name. Unless we open the file, we cannot know what file it is.
    Regards,
    Anand

    Hi all
    Hope to get some help with Elements Organizer.
    I have 12-15 years of digital photos that I now want to import into my newly aquirede Adobe Elements Organizer / Photoshop. Since my Nikon names the files with continous numbers from 0001 to 9999 I have multiple files with the same name although they are not alike at all. My previous software had no problems with that since I keep the photos in separate file folders based on import date. I generally import photos after each event and so name the folder with the date and some event info (e.g. 2014.12.24 - Christmas at grandparents).
    That is a common situation, I have the same limitation for files not going over 9999 on my Canons...
    Now - when I import my photos into Elements Organizer I get a lot of error messages with "same name exist .....) Hmmmmmmm
    Please sate the exact wording of the error message, I have never seen a message stating 'same name exist...' or equivalent; only messages about files already in the catalog. Files already in the catalog mean that some files have the same 'date taken' and file size in Kb.
    Any suggestions. I'm using a mac and tried to rename files based on date taken. The mac can do that but it takes ages to go into each folder and run the renaming script there.
    I also use a similar folder creation scheme (such a date naming is the default for the downloader). That way I never get a message about duplicates for the same file names.
    However - I can't be the first or only person with this problem so I figure that some workaround must be known out there. Maybe the import action can recognize date taken or - well. Thank you very much in advance if you can help me out here.
    You can alsways set the downloader to rename the imported files with a unique new name, there are many options in the 'advanced' dialog of the downloader. I don't know about Macs, but I don't thing there is a difference.

  • Disable Default Settings while saving Layout

    Hi,
    The client has a requirement wherein he wants to disable the "Default Setting" for all the Users and enable only the "User Specific" while saving a Layout in Standard Reports.
    Guide me as to how i can address this issue.
    Regards
    PJ

    Dear PJ,
    As per me, instead of Functional Consultant, you must get in-touch with BASIS-Admin; particularly for this requirement.
    As, what i know to achieve this, some settings needs to done in Parameter-ID (or Authorization Object - replace/ restrict access to Global layout) in T. Code: SU01/ SU3.
    Can't comment much on the same.
    Best Regards,
    Amit.
