File Layout of a Glossary File (.GLO)

As a new RH user, I have yet to find a definitive answer
about how a RH glossary file (a .GLO file type) is defined. The RH
help file talks all about importing them into your projects, but
nowhere does it mention what the file looks like inside.
Presumably, it has a glossary term and its definition as its
components, but are they comma separated or what in their layout?
Can anyone provide this info?

Hi Jeff
These are simple text files. You may open and view them using
Windows Notepad.
Here is one of mine:
NAME=BC
BC represents BigCo, our company name
As you can see, they follow the format of NAME=BC (BC is the
glossary term you define)
Glossary description here (the simple description follows the
term)
Hopefully this helps... Rick

  • RH8 deletes the glossary file (.GLO)

    Simple issue: I converted an RH7 WebHelp project to RH8. The glossary file became a zero-byte door stop.
    I close RH8, copy over a backup GLO file, open the project in RH8, make changes to the Glossary and can edit at will, close and open the project and the Glossary is still there...but, when I complile/publish the project, RH8 wipes out the GLO file.
    This also occurs if I use the Glossary Hotspot Wizard: I end up with a zero-byte file.
    (An ancillary issue is that the Glossary "Toolbar Button" does not show as an option in the WebHelp layout Properties page, and it is properly defined in the skin I am using).
    Any hints/help would be thoroughly appreciated...
    Here's something else I just discovered: any action that results in saving the GLO file zero-bytes the thing.

    Bear with me on this: I refined the issue to anything that causes RH8 to explicitly save the .GLO file.
    If a populated Glossary is available in the RH8 interface and no changes are made to the Glossary in RH8, then everything compiles and works fine. Any change to the Glossary in the RH8 interface, however, results in a zero-byte file when RH8 saves the change. I discovered I could use an external editor (e.g., UltraEdit) to make and save changes without getting RH8 all fluttered.
    Issue resolved, but there's an underlying problem -- likely a bug.

  • Glossary tab not appearing in RoboHelp9

    Yes, I have read the other posts on this topic, but am still having the problem.
    I have a RoboHelp project, with a glossary, that I've published to several layouts.  The glossary appears in the web layouts (but, for some reason does not work in Chrome), AIR, and even in the printed documentation.  In MS HTML Help, however, I don't even get a glossary tab.  I have RoboHelp 9 installed, and I've manually re-registered HHActiveX.dll.  In the MS HTML Help layout properties, I've selected both <Default Glossary>, and the project name (the only other option provided).  Either way - no glossary.
    I've triex everything I've read, but still don't even get the tab.  What am I missing?
    Specs:
    RoboHelp 9
    Windows XP Pro, 32-bit

    I'm afraid you'd be right to not hold out much hope for Peter's excellent enhancement request. The more people that request it though could sway Adobe to implementing it in a future release, so please do take the time to do so. As for why the windows are created in a certain way, could someone else have been using the project? A window's default settings are taken according to the default SSL........period. I you didn't set the default SSL to WebHelp Pro, maybe someone else did?

  • Using character tag content (not format) in a variable?

    Hi, all you Frame experts.
    In Microsoft Word, you can create a header that includes the STYLEREF field and "call" any text defined by any style, including character styles. Therefore, you can have a glossary with the glossary term "defined" with a character style, and use this to present the term in the document header (re: dictionary-style page headers).The benefit of this is that you can have a very simple page layout for a glossary (no table, side heads, etc.) and still have dictionary-style headings.
    In FrameMaker, it appears that you can only use a paragraph format in a variable that you use in the document header. Is this correct, or can you use a variable to "call" the content defined with a character format?
    For example, let's say that I want a glossary that is formatted as follows:
    Glossary term: A term that appears in the glossary... (where a character style, e.g. GlossTerm, is used to make the term bold, and the paragraph is a normal Body para.)
    Can I get the glossary term into the page header using a variable (or via any other simple FrameMaker method)? If not, then I'll use a table w/para. format for glossary term, but that is not the client's first choice.
    Please note that I don't want to get into any discussion of the merits of Word vs. FrameMaker. I'd just like to know if there is a simple solution to this in Frame.
    Thanks very much,
      --Gloria Mc

    The simple way to make a glossary with dictionary-style headers in FM is to
    use a paragraph set as "Run-In Head" to hold the glossary term, followed by
    a body paragraph to hold the glossary definition, for each glossary item.
    It's easy to set up the dictionary style headers. From FM9 help:
    Create a dictionary-style header or footer
    You can use dictionary-style headers or footers to show the range of
    information that appears on one body page or on two facing body pages.
    Dictionary-style headers or footers appear frequently in documents such as
    dictionaries, indexes, and glossaries.
    Headers show first entry on left and last on right. Insert a different
    running header/footer variable in the header or footer of each of two facing
    master pages. Edit the definition of the variable on the left master page to
    use the
    <$paratext[paratag]> building block. Replace paratag with the paragraph tag
    of dictionary terms. In the same way, edit the definition of the variable on
    the right master page to use the <$paratext[+,paratag]> building block. The
    plus sign tells FrameMaker to find the last paragraph on the page
    matching the tag rather than the first paragraph.
    1. Insert a different running header/footer variable in the header or footer
    of each of two facing master pages.
    2. Edit the definition of the variable on the left master page to use the
    <$paratext[paratag]> building block. Replace paratag with the paragraph tag
    of dictionary terms.
    3. In the same way, edit the definition of the variable on the right master
    page to use the <$paratext[,paratag]> building block. The plus sign ()
    tells FrameMaker to find the last paragraph on the page matching the tag
    rather than the first paragraph.

  • Is there 1 Glossary file with all terms & def's?

    I have created a complete glossary list in RH7 for my
    project. One of my teammates would like to use the same glossary
    terms because the RH project he is working on is very similar to
    mine. Is there a way to grab a copy of the glossary terms and
    definitions from my project? I am assuming there is a file, but
    don't know the name and location.
    Any help is MUCH appreciated!!! :)
    Natalie

    Hi Natalie
    As Peter said, if you want to do this "behind the scenes",
    copy the .GLO from your PC to your teammate's PC.
    OR... you can also view the right-click the Glossary editor
    in RoboHelp and choose to Import a glossary. You would then browse
    to the desired Glossary file and pull it in.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Glossary tab is looking in the wrong place for the Glossary file

    Running 11.0.3.268.
    I am testing the Responsive layout. In my test project, the TOC, Index, and Search tabs are all functional, but when I click the Glossary tab, I get the IE "This page can't be displayed" message. The path listed on this page is:
    C:\My_Stuff\Docs\Help Output\ResponsiveHTML5\ProfitX\template\PROFITX_2\glossary1.htm
    I can see, however, that the glossary file is actually located at:
    C:\My_Stuff\Docs\Help Output\ResponsiveHTML5\ProfitX\glossary.htm
    Can anyone tell me where can I adjust my settings so that the generated project will be able to find the glossary file?
    Thanks!

    Thank you for clarifying where I needed to look. After modifying the Glossary.slp references in the Index, Table of Contents, and Topic .slp files, I was able to get the Glossary content to show up in the generated responsive layout, at all resolutions. Getting this fixed is great. Thanks!
    Curiously though, when I now click the Search tab/button, I get this:
    Since this used to work, all I can think is that I've unintentionally broken something in an .slp file. I didn't touch any reference to Search in those files, but something isn't right. I'd appreciate it if you could glance through the recently modified sections of the .slp files (below) and let me know if anything looks amiss. Thank you.

  • Glossary in .chm file

    Hi Everyone:
    I'm using RoboHelp HTML, ver 8.0.2.208, with other users in a version controlled environment.
    I have created a .chm file but the glossary and glossary tab do not appear in the file.  I do have the glossary populated with terms and info but when I generate the .chm, there's no glossary tab and hence no glossary info.
    I do have a glossary listed in the HTML Help Options-Microsoft HTML Help window before I generate but no luck with it appearing in the resulting .chm.
    Any ideas?   Thank you so much for any help/input.  I really don't know what I would do without this forum -- it's been a lifesaver!

    Hi there
    First, check to ensure your Window definition has the Glossary enabled. Assuming it is, the next step is to try creating a new Window definition. Then configure the SSL to point at the new definition. If that still doesn't coax it to show, try creating a new layout. Just right-click in the SSL pod and choose to create a new layout.
    Don't copy the layout as it would be like cloning a cow with a birth defect. You would likely bring the birth defect right into the clone! Best practice is to create it from scratch.
    Keep us updated on your progress... Rick

  • Glossary hotspots not working in output file

    I've recently upgraded to RoboHelp 8. I have a project that's well over 10 years old contains 1652 topics.
    In the WebHelp output file, my glossary entrys look like regular text and the hotspots do not work.
    The hotspots look fine in Design view, and they work when I preview the topic. But when I generate the project and view the Output file they do not work.

    Hi again
    Okay, here's how I'd test. Edit one topic that's easy to find in the output. Add a Glossary term by clicking and dragging from the Glossary editor to either just a spot in the topic or to some selected text. Re-generate and see if that survives the trip. If it doesn't, it means you have some aspect of the generation process failing.
    Perhaps also try creating a new layout and generate using the new one. See if that makes a difference.
    Cheers... Rick

    How do i add Edge animate .oam files to Fixed Layouts Epubs in Indesign?

    Hi,
    There is a bug on iOS7 which does not let edge animate work correctly here. This issue will happen on iPad and not on Mac OS.
    There is a similar thread that explains in detail this issue you are facing:

  • Unable to run jar file without lib folder containing swing-layout-1.0.jar

    I have done my project through NetBeans 5.0. Eventhough I have copied my lib foloder containing swing-layout-1.0.jar inside my project.jar, I am still unable to run my project.jar in other systems, it is creating an error as Could not find the main class. Program will exit. But if I copy the lib foloder containing swing-layout-1.0.jar in the same path as the project.jar, then my project.jar is running.
    But I want to give only the project.jar for other users and not also lib foloder containing swing-layout-1.0.jar each time.
    Could someone please help me with this.

    When you develop GUI applications using the Netbeans you may endup using netbeans specific jar files in your auto generated code.
    And when you build jar files with netbeans it copy the third party jar files used in a application in to a lib folder in the same directory as the jar file of your project. And then set a class path entry to those jar files in your project jar file's manifest file.
    So if you want to redistribute the package you have to redistribute your jar file and every thing in the lib folder in with the same directory structure.
    If you want to change the structure you will have to change the class path to suit the new structure.

  • Help needed creating export file from a file layout with Application Engine

    The following is what I would like to do:
    - Read a record from a PS view
    - Manipulate the data as needed
    - Write the fields out to a file as defined by a File Layout
    - Repeat until no more records are found
    I have created the PeopleSoft Application Engine action listed below. It receives an error "BCUNIT is not a property of class File".
    Local Record &rec1;
    Local File &myFile;
    Local SQL &sQL1;
    /* Create instance of Record */
    &rec1 = CreateRecord(Record.W9M_MBSCRSE_VW);
    /* Instantiate the Output File */
    &myFile = GetFile("c:\temp\help_me.txt";, "A", %FilePath_Absolute);
    If &myFile.IsOpen Then
    If &myFile.SetFileLayout(FileLayout.TACOURIN) Then
    /* Create SQL object to populate rowset */
    &sQL1 = CreateSQL("%Selectall(:1) Where INSTITUTION = :2", &rec1, W9M_MBSCRSE_AET.INSTITUTION);
    /* Cycle through the records */
    While &sQL1.Fetch(&rec1)
    /* I know this section is not coded correctly but I'm not sure how to fix it */
    &myFile.BCUNIT = "1";
    &myFile.BCTCD = &rec.W9M_MBS_TERM_CODE;
    &myFile.BCTYR = &rec.W9M_MBS_TERM_YEAR;
    &myFile.BCDPTN = &rec.ACAD_GROUP;
    &myFile.BCCOUR = substring(&rec.CATALOG_NBR,2,5);
    &myFile.BCSEC = &rec.CLASS_SECTION;
    &myFile.WriteRecord();
    End-While;
    Else
    /* Process FileLayout Error here */
    End-If;
    Else
    /* Process File Open Error here */
    End-If;
    &myFile.Close();
    There are probably a lot of things wrong with this approach and if you could provide some guidance and/or  corrections to the above logic I would greatly appreciate it.
    Another approach?
    After doing a bunch of reading on Application Engine maybe my approach is incorrect. Perhaps I should be doing something like the following:
    - Read a record from a PS view
    - Populate a temporary table manipulating data as it is inserted (Temp table is named according to the file layout fields?)
    - Fetch the records from the temp table and write the record to the file layout.
    - Repeat until no more records are found
    Is this approach better and designed correctly? If not, could you recommend how it should be done? Would the population and reading of the Temp table be done in separate actions or within the same action? Do you know of an Application Engine program that can be used as an example with "like" processing?
    As you can probably tell I haven't used Application Engine before and my goal is to start out on the right path. Thank you for any direction and input that you can provide.
    Steve

    I did and my initial logic was based upon them. I don't see where it shows how to manipulate the data before writing it to the file layout fields. Maybe you can send me a link to that section?
    I was hoping that I would be able to reference the file layout fields directly to allow for manipulating the field values. Re-reading the file layout section and the application engine PeopleBooks I believe I need to create a temporary record which matches the file layout fields; i.e., the second alternative that I listed. Then, make my updates to the temp record fields as I load them. Then, load them to the file layout as a row.
    I'm not sure how this would break down in Application Engine; would the insert into the temp table and the writerecord be different steps/actions, etc.

  • How do I generate a PDF output report when the layout template is an Excel file in BI publisher 11.1.1.7

    This is what I did ..
    1. Create new report
    2. Create a report using an existing Data Model (browsed and picked a data model)
    3. How do you want to create your report? (clicked on Used Report Editor)
    4. Clicked Finished (then saved the report)
    5. Then it asked me to create layout (I chose Upload or Generate Layout and then browsed for an uploaded  my excel template with XDO_* column mappings to the data model)
         Template File = Excel Template, Locale = English (US)
    5.  Clicked on Upload
    6.  Then clicked on View Report on the top right, which opened up my report file name "my_report_layoutname.xls"  with sheet 1 (xdo mapped all fine) and a xdo_metadata sheet.
    I just wanted step 6 to be a pdf report of sheet 1.    How do I do that ?  Can't find the place where I can specify that.
    M. Jamal

    Thanks Daniel for pointing that out.  Though you answer is helpful but I am not sure if that is what I would want to do.
    The link you provide for csv says "For each report there's an _report.xdo file that contains the XML structure of the report... "   It suggests I modify the .xdo file for each report.  I currently have 16 reports.
    Does it mean I modify the .xdo file for all 16  and what happens if someone creates a 17th report ?
    Also, what if I run the same report using different input parameters will that change the xml structure for the report  and therefore will need me to modify the .xdo again ? (I think it should not change the xml structure so the answer should be "NO" to that, unless I change the structure of the report).
    Finally, the link you provide says after doing what it suggest  "Now log back into BI publisher and select the report. You should now be able to see that CSV is now an option."
    CSV should be an option where ? on what screen/page ?  Maybe PDF is already an option for me that I cant see because I do not know where that option is.
    I was hoping there would be something I could do on the xdo_metadata sheet (in the data constraints section or elsewhere) OR in BI Publisher itself as some property of the report.
    I will try out what you suggest any ways.

  • Layout Par file name not appearing in list while creating new Layout

    Hi
    I downloaded com.sap.portal.layouts to modify the light_framework page to suit my needs, renamed it to com.mycomp.portal.layouts, modified the page, created a par file and uploaded it thru NWDS.
    When I go to the portal to create a new Layout, I do not see my custom par file in the list.
    I have even uploaded it from the portal: System Administration -> Support -> Support Desk -> Portal Runtime -> Administration Console -> Archive Uploader. Even after it was successful, I was not able to see the par file listed while creating a new Layout.
    How do I get my Layout par file listed do i can create my Layout?
    Thanks
    J

    Hi Bala
    I never had a problem with the JAR files in this par file while opening, nor did I have to manually add anything.
    I know it has been successfully uploaded in the portal, as I can see my par file in the Archive Deployment Checker.
    What could be wrong? Is there something else I have to put in the portalapp.xml to make it visible in the list?
    Thanks
