File Renaming from Multiple Cards

I’m attempting to use prelude to transfer and rename files from multiple cards to the same folder using the custom text and auto increment options. When I try transfer the media from card 2 to the same folder as card 1 using the same renaming protocol the auto increment starts back at 001 instead of picking up where the numbering left off from the last card. Therefore creating duplicate file names. Does the media from all my cards have to be transferred from the same location and ingested at the same time before I can make this work? All the tutorials have all the media coming from only one card in a “DSLR” workflow. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your post. In the current version of Prelude it does not provide the "next in sequence" number as an option. We are implementing that feature now for an upcoming release. The new feature should provide you with the following capabilities:
1. Prelude will provide a new option in the RENAME settings area: "USER DEFINED AUTO INCREMENT". An EDIT field will be available when you select this option and Prelude will automatically populate it with the "NEXT" sequential value based on the last ingest operation performed.
2. You can also override the auto-populated value if you choose and set any starting value you wish.

Importing from multiple Card readers at the same time...

In Photo Mecahnics I can import multiple cards at one time. Is this possible with LR? If yes, then I will switch 100% to LR.

Your System my get bogged down?? but you probably can start multiple downloads consecutively. I know you can do consecutive Exports with different presests. Haven't actually heard of anyone doing what you ask.
I asume you are talking either more than one camera or multiple readers.
I also don't know how this would effect metadata, if at all.
Give it a try on a Test Catologue and report back hear. I am sure others might like to know if you are successful.

Photodownloader - Error in sequencing files copied from CF Card

I'm a relatively new user of Bridge and the Photodownloader there (although I've used Elements and it appears to be very similar). I've noticed that when I copy files from my CF card (from nikon 300s) that the sequence of the file names on the CF card does not identically match the sequence of the files that are copied to my PC.
I noticed the issue when working with sports photos. The sequence that ACR was presesnting to me was wrong in some instances. In the two I checked it was the same type of error. Pictures that were in 1-2-3 seqence on the CF card were in 3-1-2 sequence after copying. The sequence on the CF card was correct. It does not do it all the time, but seems to be in shots that were shot in faster sequence.
There doesn't seem to be much to mess up with the settings. I tell it to rename to a custom name + date + sequence # (usually starting with 1).
Has anyone else run into this? Is it a bug in Photodownloader? Am I doing something wrong?
I'm using Bridge CS4 - 3.0.0.464.

I use all the features of Bridge CS4 (except that one) and love it!
Vista has a useful import module but I don't know if it would suit your purposes.
Then again most cameras come with some facility for this too.
With CS5 getting closer I doubt whether the downloader will ever be fixed.

Music files deleted from Memory Card..(5800XM)

I have a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. Music files used to get deleted earlier automatically from the music player, but this problem stopped for a while. The other day, I transferred about 20 songs to my phone via Mass Storage mode through my PC. After a couple of days, all those 20 songs are missing from my music player. They've disappeared from the Memory Card as well, leaving behind only the folder in which they were.
Please help. This is REALLY annoying.

Yes, may be you are right. Something was wrong with my memory card and i figured out this morning. its an 8gb card out of which my personal data was about 4 gb. yet i could see that almost 7gb was used and only about 0.5gb was free. what i did was that i pulled all my data out of the mem card and found that still 3gb was used up. hmmm...this was very weird. Not too sure but i guess it may be occupied by .arc files which are created when i do backup on the memory card. This was leaving very little space on my mem card , so whenever new data was added to the card, it was flushing out some existing data randomly (which is actually very sick!).
So, i removed all my personal data from card and then formatted it. Now my card is clean and has lot of free space. Hopefully the problem won't repeat anymore.
Its actually quite annoying that data is deleted randomly without prompting that disk has run out space. quite weird actually.
List of Nokia phones I've used: 3310, 3315, 3200, 6600,3250, N73 ME, N95 8GB, 5800 XpressMusic and Nokia X6 16 GB (currently using this).

Imported Files Deleted From Memory Card

I imported my files from my camera's memory card and selected the option to import into the aperature library and delete the originals after import. The files successfully imported and I began to work on them in a project. I flagged a couple of the pictures that I wanted to put in an album and print, upload, etc. Then, all of a sudden, they were GONE. They are nowhere to be found in Aperature. I even viewed all photos in a "list" view and sorted by date taken and none of the pictures I took today and "successfully" imported were there. I do not see them in the trash either and a Time Machine backup has not completed since I imported the photos. Could someone please tell me how I can recover these priceless pictures of our toddler son and my wife on their first Mother's Day???

hopefully you did not actually delete your photos but just hid them. Did you quit and relaunch Aperture before your images vanished, or did did it happen, while Aperture was open?
There are basically two ways that occasionally hide images:
Hiding in a different Librariy: Import into one library, then opening a different library and the images appear to be gone
Filtering and rejecting: Accidentally setting filters or using the "reject" key will exclude images from the view.
If you noticed the missing images after quitting and relaunching, you may have imported into a different library then you are viewing now. This may happen, if your Aperture library is on a different volume and the volume went offline, before you started importing. Then Aperture may simply create a new library on your drive and import into that. Or you have two Aperture installations - on in the Applications folder, one somewhere else. Depending on how you launch Aperture you may open different Libraries.
To check for other Aperture Libraries, see if Aperture offers different Librarues to open, when you hold down the options-key while launching Aperture or if Aperture is already running, go to the File menu and select "File -> Switch to Library".
If the images vanished while you were working with Aperture: (You did not tell us which Aperture version you are using - I assume you are using Aperture 3 ....)
Check the searchfields in the Browser and in the Inspector pane and clear them.
The browser filter should be set to "Showing All" - this will even reveal rejected images,
The filter in the Inspector pane shuold show: "All items"
Note that each library item may have its own filter applied; you will have to select them in turn to clear all filters.
In very rare cases you may even have created an invisible filter; then Frank Caggiano's user tip will help.

Rejecting images: If you accidentally hit the "9" key, your currently selected images may be rated rejected and the filter in the Browser will exclude them from view, if it is not set to "Showing all". Rejected images are marked by a "x". To unreject them assing a different rating.
Pkease post back, if this does not solve the problem. Don't use the card in your camera, until you got your pictures back. If all fails, you may need to use recovery software on the card.

So all is well and this is not a HUGE problem, but curious.
#1...I really wish we could just choose a Music folder, or something, without being stuck with Windows Media or Itunes.
#2...In Link, it doesn't show the FLAC files that are located on my sd card.
I love, both, my Q10 & my Z10. It seems that this shouldn't be?

5800 files deleted from mem card in mass storage -...

I have connected my phone via USB mass storage and deleted some MP3s
however
there is no extra free space showing on the phone (in File Manager)
I had this problem before and it somehow fixed it self after a reboot/sync, but this time it isn't working.
I reallly can't face the hassle of soft/hard reset/card format - life is too short!

I had the same concern in my N96. All my messages were deleted. This happened thrice with me. I had activated the silent profile & was listening to music in the handset, I received a message & the handset restarted. then all the messages in the handset were deleted. I had around 1300 messages. I tried a lot to retrieve those messages, but couldn't find any solution. I guess you cannot retrieve the deleted messages.

ABAP File renaming from *txt to *sik

In production we are getting runtime error as MESSAGE_TYPE_UNKNOWN
In which sy-subrc =1 which means no permission.
For particular user I ma facing the issue in production.
we have tried solutions such as giving folder access rights to the file but still it is not working.

Zip'ing files from multiple folders to the same zip file

Could somebody recommend a method to create a zip file with file contents from multiple folders? Or is there an application I can drag and drop a bunch of files to zip em?

First highlight all of the folders or files. If they're not right next to each other, or on the same drives, hold down the Command key while clicking to choose the next without losing previous choices.
Once they're all highlighted, right click on any highlighted item and choose "Compress xxx Items".

Cna a movie be ftored on sd card and played via camera card reader. i transfered my movie from itunes to sd card. i set up a new file renamed the movie to dscf ... name , it loaded tom ipad but ipad says it cannot open?

In THEORY, you can. However there are a lot of hoops to jump through. And the last time I played with it was when my device was running iOS7.
You put the movie file on an SD card. Follow the naming convention. Give it a file name of 8 characters. Put it in a folder named DCIM.
You can't watch the movie off the SD card. You have to import the movie onto your device (so you need plenty of free room) watch then delete.
What you may be running into is if those movies were downloaded from iTunes or some other source they may have digital rights management on them prohibiting you moving them around and watching them like you're trying to do.

Does OS X corrupt files when copying from SD card to desktop?

Using finder to copy a folder and its files from SD card to mac desktop seems to cause *some* files to be corrupted, specifically a handful of MP4 files from a FAT32 SD card which was used in a digital camera. Using a binary/hex comparison tool reveals that some segments of the files contents were modified when copied from the SD card.
This error occurs when copying multiple files using Finder windows. However, when copying the same files one at a time, the corruption does not occur. This appears to be an OS level bug. In reviewing past content, I found that dozens of MP4 files have been corrupted in the past 4 months by merely copying the files from the SD card to mac desktop using Finder copy/paste.
I am using OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3

Well, like I said, the byte size in fact did *not* change. So I'm not even concerned about that. What *did* change is the content of those bytes and it doesn't matter what operating system you are using, the content of those bytes is *not* supposed to change.
Also, like I said before, if I copy the individual file (MP4) insead of the entire folder, and then do the binary/hex comparison, the byte data is identical. i.e.
a) copying one file at a time produces an *identical* file on the HD, i.e. the byte count AND the byte content are precisely the same.
b) copying a folder with multiple files produces a *different* file on the HD, i.e. the byte count is the same BUT the byte content differs from the original file.

Aperture batch file rename: remove dashes from date?

Just wondering if it is possible to change the format of the date from YYYY-MM-DD to YYYYMMDD when you rename files as they are imported into Aperture 3? I In Aperture 3, the date format used includes dashes. I would like to have the file renamed without the dashes in the date. Is this possible?
This question was previously asked and answered in 2010, however Aperture does not seem to have an option for this it the batch rename edit menu. Thanks

It is not possible in the Aperture naming presets to remove the dashes or in any way change the date format.
The reason is that it is not possible to access the individual components of the date. When you drag an Image Date or Current Date token to form the filename you can't just get the day or the month or the year which is what you would have to be able to do to remove the dashes.
There is no technical reason this couldn't be allowed, Apple has just made the decision that it won't be allowed. You can try sending feedback to Apple requesting this, see Aperture->Provide Aperture Feedback.
It is possible to do what you want either before you import the files or with an Applescript eitehr beforre import or within Aperture.
For doing it before import you would basically copy the image files from the camera card to a folder and then import from there. There are several programs that you could use to do the rename, Name Mangler has been mentioned here a few times. I've never used it so I can;t vouch for it.
As for an in Aperture Applescript solution if you are familair with programming and/or Applescript it isn't to difficult to do but would be easier with some prior knowledge.
