File renaming to bottom of folder structure

Hi All;
Scripting dummy here. Have used the built in "Replace Text in Item Names.scpt", but it only searches into the top level of the open folder.
Is there a command I can insert into this script that will make it search all files, sub-folders and sub-files within the main, open window??
If not, anyone have a script that would work. scripting.net and third party apps are not an option.
Have THOUSANDS of proposal files that need to be renamed to Bill Gates liking so they can be placed on server! Thanks for the help!

You don't say much about how you'll replace the names or what's wrong with them, but this will drill down through nested folders to process every file (and I apologize to whomever wrote it or I'd give credit where due):
to drilldown(afolder)
tell application "Finder"
set file_list to files of a_folder
set folder_list to folders of a_folder
end tell
repeat with i in file_list
processDrilledDownFile(i)
-- relieve the script by handling the found files first,
-- before diving deeper into the recursion with the found folders,
-- as this will minimize occurences of a stack overflow
end repeat
repeat with i in folder_list
drill_down(i) -- diving into the recursion with the found folders here
end repeat
end drill_down
on processDrilledDownFile(a_file)
-- a_file is passed on to the processDrilledDownFile handler as a Finder file object
-- so it must be further processed starting from within a "tell application Finder" block
tell application "Finder"
beep
activate
reveal a_file
-- replace the 3 lines above with your own file processing code
end tell
end processDrilledDownFile
drill_down(choose folder)

  • File Size on Bottom of folder

I love my Macs, but the one thing I miss from the PC side is clicking on a file and having the size of that file show on the bottom of my folders.
On my PC there is a "Statis Bar" option, so it shows the information of what is in that folder. So if I had one file highlighted, it would show 1 file - Size 1.3 mb or if I had 4 files highlighted, it would say whatever the total of all 4 files - Size 6.6 mb or what ever it is.
On the Mac side, I have never found that. I have to Opt-Mouse click properties and then read the size. Is there something that is close or the same to the pc?
    Gary

Have you tried putting the Finder View in Columns? Go to the View menu, select Columns, and also check the Show View Options and make sure the Preview column is checked on. When you click on a file you will see a lot of extra stuff, not only the file's size but thumbnails for graphics, the first few lines in many kinds of text files in their thumbnails, and the ability to play music files and movies right there. If you prefer List View, again go to Show View Options and make sure that Size is one of the columns that is displayed. You can even check a box to have all sizes calculated, so the size of folders will also appear. If you click the Size column you can have the list arranged be size, click again to reverse the order.
As for the aggregate size of several items: for that you need to bring up Inspector--Command-Option-i. You can just leave it up, the content will change constantly as you select different items. The Preview section will give you nice BIG icon previews, and includes the ability to play music and watch a thumbnail of movies. You can navigate from item to item using the arrow keys on the keyboard.

  • PSE4 - Folder structure - Collections structure

    Hi!
I've always used some other program to organize my photo's, but now I want to use PSE4, because of all it's functions. The only thing is... Is there a way of just importing all my pics by somehow converting the folder structure they are in now to the collection-structure with the same hierarchy? And a -for me- even more important question: is there a way of exporting the collection structure to folders on my pc (WITH the files in them!)??? 'Coz as I see it if I want to make a back-up of all my pictures organized in PSE, it just creates just ONE folder on my drive with all of my ten-thousands of pictures in it...
I hope this question is clear and I even hope more there'll be a usefull answer soon!
    Thanks beforehand for all answers!
    Greetz, Thomas

    Thomas,
    Basic comments
I doubt that a direct transfer of your folder structure will be an efficient and effective use of the Organizer. From several folder structures that I have seen, most people have more separate folders in their sturucture than is necessary once they create Tags. Structure is still possible because Tags can have a structure with Category and Sub-Category; however the structure can often be less complicated.
My advice is that you read about
    b Tags.
It sounds like you are planning to use Collections immediately - not a good idea because there is better searching capability using Tags to identify photos.
One function that sometimes aids the transition to Tags is the "Instant Tag" feature. Use the View > Arrangement > Folder Location. The Instant Tag will make a tag from the Folder Name. Specifically this is the name of the last level folder in the folder tree (the folder that actually contains the photo files). One consideration is that you do need to be cautious in its use if you have multiple lowest level folders named "Birthday Party" or whatever.
    >as I see it if I want to make a back-up of all my pictures organized in PSE, it just creates just ONE folder on my drive with all of my ten-thousands of pictures in it...
If you use the Elements Backup command, the files in the Backup folder are renamed and do not have a folder structure. When you use the Elements Restore command, the files are renamed back and the folder structure is recreated.
However, if you use the Burn to CD/DVD Copy function, you are correct there is no folder structure on the disc. Of course, you can still use whatever burning software you have on your PC to burn whatever Windows folders you wish to CD or DVD discs.

  • Maintaining folder structure in content server

    Hi,
There are times when we have a .swf object and associated xml files all in a particular folder structure and we need to maintain that in the content server because there wil be internal references.
Is there anyway in which we can store the folder structure in UCM and use paths like /images/test.swf instead of the httprelativewebroot url.
    Thanks
    John

I believe you typed that address into your browser to get that error message right?
You can use webdav by opeing My Network Places (if on windows) and clicking Add new Place.
Follow the steps and when it asks for Internet or network address - http://localhost/idc/idcplg/webdav of course replacing "localhost/idc" with your server name and instance name.
Then you should be able to browse that folder you just setup. It might ask you to log in depending on how you have your security setup.
    Then drag and drop away.
If you aren't on windows you might want to google connecting to webdav for your operating system.

  • Importing .mts files not nested in original camera folder structure

    The short version:
Is there any way to import .mts files already copied to a hard drive, without keeping the camera's folder structure intact, into Premiere Pro CS5.5?
    The long version:
I recently purchased an iMac. For years I edited video on Windows using Sony Vegas and Vegas Home Studio. My camera, the Panasonic Lumix TS2, shoots AVCHD video. Vegas has no problem importing and editing AVCHD .mts files from a camera or a hard drive so it wasn't until I attempted to edit some video in Premiere Pro, recieved the "unsupported compressions type" error message and did some searching that I realized folder structure is so critial to working with AVCHD. From what I can tell, the files have to be in the PRIVATE>AVCHD>BDMV>STREAM>xxxxxxx.mts confirguration to be imported via the media browser.
Here is my situation, I have hundreds of .mts files in separate folders, bundled together with photos from the same day or event. I'm on an iMac i7, using an activated version of Premiere Pro CS5.5 from the Master Collection. Is there any way I can import and edit these files natively? And in the future, is there any way around transferring the entire folder structure everytime I want to copy the video files to my hard drive? I use Bridge to import photos and it will just pull the video files off the card and plop them in the same folder. Having to transfer the videos separately seems like a silly work around in our modern age. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Yo! I used to have this problem for about 1 year!! And fixed it about half a year ago and I have never been as happy when I fixed it!
Be sure that your sequence settings are set to the right settings: When you create a new sequence you should be promped with a window asking what settings you want. Open the "AVCHD" folder and there should be 3 folders; 1080p, 1080i, 720p. Pick the one that you filmed at, I film at 1080p, so I open that folder and then you pick the right setting to what you filmed your scene. I film at 24 fps so i pick AVCHD 1080p24 (non-anamorphic). Now there should be a new sequence with the right settings (don't use the same settings as I do unless you have filmed at the same frame rate and that it was filmed at 1080p or 1080i, there is a big difference between "p" and "i"). If you go in to the window in the bottom left corner there should be a tab on that box that says "Media Browser". Click it and the directory to your computer should be shown. If you have your SD card connected there should be something called SD card (or if you have renamed it then it is obvious what you should select). After selecting it there should be a folder called AVCHD and you open it up. This is where it gets tricky... because I don't know what camera you use and don't have any experience with your camera then you will have to go through all the folders that are within the AVCHD folder. They are not so many but in the folder where all the clips are hidden they should be called 00626.mts for example. Then you just select the clips you want to import and import them. This process can also be done by opening Finder (mac) or on PC just open up the same way and select the clips you want and drag them i to your project window
Then if you drag a clip in to the sequence, this is were you see if you did all the steps right (with the sequence settings) then the light above the clip should be yellow, meaning that the playback engine recognizes the format and can play it back without any compression Therefor giving you much better quality videos!
Hope this helps, I know the pain you are going through, don't want it to happen to anyone else

  • Transparent integration of a new drive into the folder structure of a file server?

    Hallo,
I'm looking for solution to a problem, that seams to be simple, but obviously is not that easy to solve:
I have to integrate a second external RAID system in to our MacOS X 10.6.8 Server based file sharing server that is accessed from Mac and Windows clients via AFP and SMB. I want to move one or two main folders from the old RAID to the new one, but this physical change has to be invisible to the users, as I don't want to confuse anyone.
So my idea was to mover the Folders to the new drive, and create symbolic links at the old locations pointing to the new locations. This works very well for the Windows clients accessing the server via SMB, but does not work for the Macs on AFP.
So I tried to move one folder to the new drive and mount it at the old location. Again this works fine for the SMB but does not work for AFP, the mount point does not show up in a directory listing via AFP.
Do you have any other idea how I might integrate the new drive in transparent way into the old folder structure?
    Thanks for your input
    Florian
PS: I could use SMB on the Macs but for some reason I, whenever I try to log into the server from a Mac via SMB, user name and password are accepted, but then the Mac client displays a message saying that I don't have the right to access the share. The same share works using AFP.

    Define 'invisible' please.
Do you mean you need to be able to do this live, while users are on the system? or just that you can shut the machine down, reconfigure it, and bring it back up with the new configuration, even though the shares look the same to the users?
I'm guessing the latter, but it's worth asking.
Ultimately the problem lies in the way the file sharing systems deal with multi-volume sharepoints, and it's not easy. If you think about it, say you have a 1TB array handling the main sharepoint and you want to substitute one of the directories in that sharepoint with a new, empty 4TB array.
When the user mounts the sharepoint they get a little status bar at the bottom of the window showing the available space... how much is that? Well, initially it would be however much of the 1TB volume is unused... except if they switch to the linked directory they now have 4TB available (or thereabouts)... so the amount of space available has changed even though, from the user's standpoint, they're still on the same share.
It isn't valid for the OS to report 4 TB as free because that isn't the case unless you're in this specific directory.
It also isn't valid for the OS to report 5TB free, even though there is that amount of space altogether.
It also isn't valid for the OS to report 1TB free because you could upload 4TB of data if you put it in the right place.
There are few solutions to this. Microsoft sort of addressed this with their DFS solution in Windows Server, but it's not trivial.
Unfortunately you can't just blow it off and ignore the issue.
Off hand there's only one thing I can think of that *might* work. if it doesn't then you're down to using multiple sharepoints on the server, with users mounting both disks simultaneously (which can be automated, for what it's worth).
The one thing to try is to statically mount the second RAID at the appropriate location so that, as far as the OS is concerned, it looks like just another directory even though it's on a different disk. You'd do this by editing /etc/fstab and adding a line like
    UUID=AABBCCDD-79F7-33FF-BE85-41DFABE2E2BA /path/to/mount    hfs   rw
to /etc/fstab (this file may not currently exist, so just create it as root).
The first field is the UUID of the drive (which you can get via diskutil info)
The second field is the path where you want this drive to appear in the filesystem - i.e. somewhere in the path of your sharepoint. There must be an existing (empty) directory at this path when the disk mounts.
The third field identifies the disk as HFS
The fourth field marks the disk as read-write
Now when the system boots it should locate this disk and mount it on top of the existing RAID volume. If you cd to your sharepoint you should see the existing drive and if you cd from there into your mounted directory you should be looking at your new RAID.
Now, this all works fine (or, at least, should do) from a standard OS standpoint. The big question is whether the AFP and SMB daemons honor and support this kind of setup... there's one way to try, of course...
Now for testing purposes you could mount it at a dummy directory, just to see whether it's available to network clients. If it is then your next step would be to clone the data from the directory onto the new drive, then edit the fstab to mount the disk at the appropriate location.
Note also that the entire volume will replace the directory you mount over - that means you can't replace two (or more) directories with one volume, but you can, of course, partition or setup your RAID into multiple volumes and mount each individual volume over a specific directory.

  • How to import files and convert folder structure to collections hierarchy?

My RAW files are organised on disc by date, e.g.
    2013
    01
    02
    etc
    2014
    01
    02
    etc
    2015
    01
    2015-01-05 Family outing
    2015-01-27 Walk along the Canal
    etc
    02
    2015-02-01 Visiting granny
    2015-02-05 Golf
    2015-02-07 Skating competition
    etc
I would like to batch import these into Lightroom (Lightroom CC) and have the folder structure above replicated in Collection Sets and Collections (i.e. one collection set for each year, and within each one have a collection set per month, and within that individual collections for the folders)
Is there a way to make this happen automatically?
    Many thanks,
    /alan

    Hi.
Trash the iPhoto Library folder that you created on your Mac, or rename it "iPhoto Library damaged" if you may need some of its contents. Copy the iPhoto Library folder from the backup into your Pictures folder. Hold down the Option key as you launch iPhoto and select "Choose Library" from the dialog. Navigate to the good iPhoto Library folder and open. iPhoto should launch and open your library in exactly the same condition it was in when the backup was made. If all goes well you don't have to import anything.
If the library is still missing items, you can try a database rebuild. Hold Command and Option while you launch, select the first 3 options in the dialog, and rebuild. This can fix a library with a slightly damaged database.
If the library still isn't working you may have to create a new library (Option-Launch, select "Create") and import your Originals folder from the backup library. This will give you the pictures back without creating duplicates, but your albums and other items will not be recovered.
    Regards.

  • MTS files (and really, they're just MTS, not the entire folder structure)..

OK, I see lotsa advice about dealing with MTS files...if they're in their proper folder structure.
Well, that'd be easy, and I'd be importing them now if they were in their proper folder structure. But they're not...I have 503 .mts files, in a folder, that a client copied "for me", and now expects me to import.
Any advice? Like I said, I only have the .mts files, not the supporting folder structure.

Greetings all from Jakarta - i have a feeling this is going to be a lengthy response and will only be of interest for those currently suffering from MTS file issues, but I do believe (while my solutions are not perfect) I have found some answers. What I have not found, unfortunately, are the hairs that I pulled out of my armpits in frustration over these MTS issues.
Background info: My office purchased the Panasonic HDC-TM700 to provide back-up to our Panasonic 170EN and we have been quite happy with the results. We have also been converting the MTS files to .MOV files on both Toast Titanium, and Final Cut Pro.
    SITUATION #1
After a day of shooting I downloaded the TM700 files (full structure) to the hard disk. On day two after a full day of shooting I realized I forgot to format the camera's memory card so i had 50 MTS files that I already downloaded. Ever the smart guy, I highlighted file #51-#102 and dragged them into the STREAM file of the previous day's download. Then I formated the camera so i wouldnt forget the next day.
Well during log and transfer in FCP ONLY THE FIRST 50 FILES could be read, because that is what the metadata in the info supported ..... FCP couldnt even locate the other 50 files. I nearly fainted at the thought of getting fired. Thank goodness, when we dragged the MTS files into TOAST TITANIUM they could be read and converted!
    SITUATION #2
The new guy (seriously, it was the new guy!) ONLY DOWNLOADED THE MTS files and since I wasn't there I wasn't there to see the havoc when neither FCP or TOAST could open the files. I was called in and my first idea was to take an old file structure, copy it, and slip the MTS files into the STREAM folder.
Well, it worked!! kind of.... The interesting thing is that the files could be converted in TOAST (FCP would not open the files) BUT ONLY TO THE TIME CODE THAT was equivalent to the original file. So if the original file was 1 minute and the file that I only had the MTS file for (and which corresponded to the file's number) was 5 minutes, only 1 minute was converted.)
So what I did was I took the TM700 and I shot five minutes of my foot. Then I downloaded the full file structure. Since I only took one shot of five minutes there was only one file in the STREAM folder, which was a 598mb file numbered 00000.MTS
I know I will regret it one day but i deleted the MTS file of my foot. Then I placed in one of the "homeless" MTS files into the (now empty) STREAM folder and changed the name to 0000.MTS -
When opened in FCP log and transfer - IT DID NOT WORK. However, in TOAST I am happy to say IT WORKED, yayyyy. And the file that was converted was the length of the clip. What I thought might happen is that if the clip was only 30 seconds long but the foster file was 5 minutes then there would be 30 seconds of footage and 4.5 minutes of black empty space on video. That wasn't the case.
    THE SHORT TERM SOLUTION:
Over the years I have been very very very lucky with all the help I have gotten over the internet and in my own small way I hope the following helps out others. So here is what I have done, with instructions.
PLEASE NOTE I AM INDONESIAN LIVING IN INDONESIA SO WE USE PAL ..... 25 frames per second. .... Hopefully if someone in North America likes this idea and can help out, they will post a NTSC file structure.
    OKAY INSTRUCTIONS:
    1. Double click this link and download the file structure. The the file structure is only 68kb all your (and mine) frustrations for 68,000 bytes!!
    www.klirkom.com/helpout/AVCHD
    2. If you look inside the folder (AVCD->BDMV->STREAM) you will see AN EMPTY STREAM FOLDER. This is where you will place your "lost/not working" MTS files. Sorry, but this file structure only supports two files at a time. The first file is 5 minutes long, the second file is 33 minutes long (i was going to make it 10 minutes but I forgot about the camera being on and left it for 33 minutes ...)
    3. Change your first file name (preferably an MTS file less than 600mb so that the 'foster' file can cover it) to 00000.MTS. Now change your second file (preferably less than 4GB, but unless you are filming the whole wedding this should be okay for most people.... the important thing to remember is that if you want your full file converted without missing any parts at the end, the files should be smaller in size than the foster files) to the name 00001.MTS
    4. Now drag your newly named and newly placed MTS files into TOAST TITANIUM. Click convert. I have not tried this with other software but hopefully it works for you.
    5. If you want you can now rename your original MTS files to their original names and continue with the next two files. I know with 500 MTS files this is a HUGE pain in the buttox .....
    Okay, good luck all!!

  • How can I batch move files to the same folder structure in a different location?

    Hi,
I recently had an issue with my iTunes Library so I used the Organize Library feature to have iTunes organise my library.  What happened was that it put all of my music in a folder called 'Music' on my external hard drive, whereas previously it was not in a folder at all, e.g.
BEFORE: External Hard Drive / Abba / Greatest Hits / Mama Mia.m4a
AFTER: External Hard Drive / Music / Abba / Greatest Hits / Mama Mia.m4a
I don't have any particular issue with the updated folder structure, except that I had copies of the artwork for each album in my album folders, and these weren't moved when the audio files were moved/consolidated/organised.  So I need to find a way of moving all of the artwork to the new folders, e.g.
External Hard Drive / Abba / Greatest Hits / folder.jpg
    needs to become:
    External Hard Drive / Music / Abba / Greatest Hits / folder.jpg
I have to do this for 3,000+ albums, and I have multiple artwork files for some albums, so I am hoping that there is a way of doing this using a batch/automated method of some kind, but I haven't been able to turn up anything yet.
    Can someone help with this?
    Thanks,
    Nick

You can make a smart playlist containing episodes of both series and play from that. Podcasts are linked together by the URL they are served from so merging ongoing series isn't really practical.

  • How to make file folder structure from virtual folders

    lv 2013 sp1
This is the layout of an example project, (please don't mind the horrible naming)
When i create a source distribution.. no matter what settings I try, the preview is always like this:
But I want the folder structure from the build to become as the virtual folder structure. is there any way of doing this without moving them by hand in the file explorer tab?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Unless you use auto-populating folders (which I don't like), the virtual folders are not meant to reflect the location on disk, so it certainly won't be automatic.
I don't have experience with source distribution, but other build types have the option of configuring destination folders in the Destinations category and then assigning these destinations to items in the projects (including virtual folders, which then takes all the elements inside it) either in the same category or in the one under it, I can't check. I expect that you can do the same in a source distribution.
Try to take over the world!

I tried to rename a file, it gave me an error message (can't remember the number - 43??) and then the file disappeared from the original folder. When I do a search, the file comes up under the new name, but it does not show a path, and even though preview shows the contents, I can't open the document (Powerpoint) and I can't move the document. I tried "Copy" and paste but it doesn't work. I tried "Share" with Airdrop and iChat, but the file is inaccessible. When i try to rename the file, it says the filename is too long.
When I try to open it, it says the alias is not good, and asks if I want to fix the alias. I'm afraid to do that and lose all access to this document.
Right now, it feels like a ghost document - it is on the computer intact, but it is in an undisclosed location and inaccessible.
    Please help!!

I was able to resolve this by repairing permissions, even though no permissions error was listed specifically for that file.
I could also have recovered it through Time Machine, but I'm interested in knowing how not to have this happen again!
I was afraid of rebooting and possibly losing track even of the ghost.
I did not try EasyFind - I'll keep that in mind next time.
    Thanks for all the comments.

  • How to change location of files (folder structure to storing in iPhoto lib)

    I need help.
I thought I was smart, but as is always the case, I find out that I am not
I did not trust iPhoto at first. So I retained my images in my 8 years of folder structure (by year and then subfolders of months).
My lib is getting large, 7000 plus images, and when importing images (I do not have the setting for imported images to be stored to iPhoto Lib) and wanting to delete some, I find it more work than is necessary.
Bottom line: Can someone tell me if there is a way to change the setting (of course there is) but also to reimport, or move, my images that are already in iPhoto (but are really just previews referencing to my folder structure) so that they will reside in the iPhoto Lib?
When I import it finds duplicates...if I say do not import then it does not go any further...but if I say "yes, import duplicates" then it brings them in as duplicates...which means I have two copies, but only one retains all of the keywords etc.
Another bottom line: I want to retain my keywords in my current library, but move all images into the iPhoto lib instead of my folder structure. I can do this from this date forward, but I want to get the entire lib to be this way.

  • Sender file adapter, file existence check in archive folder if exists rename the same and proceed with current file

    Dear SAP Gurus
    Interface flow:
    File --> File and RFC.
We have a requirment where PI needs to check the file existency in archive folder and if there is a file already exists with same name we need to rename that file and archive the current file as is...
Note* Customer don't want to add time stamp!!!!
For ex today first message processed with file name "UBMO_delta20140626.xml" and archived as is- UBMO_delta20140626.xml
and customer sends a second file on the same day with same name(UBMO_delta20140626.xml) in this case before archiving PI needs to check whether there is a file exists already in archive folder or not if there is, then it should rename the same like(UBMO_delta20140626_1.xml) and proceed with current message processing and archive the same name(UBMO_delta20140626.xml).
    Many Thanks in advance...

    Hi Nagesh,
I think you can use the feature of run operating system command before message processing. you can refer the below wiki for information.

  • Can't delete, rename files, or move to another folder

I had posted earlier about not being able to delete, rename files, or move to another folder. It never was resolved here, and I guess Apple still hasn't done anything about it. Here's a great workaround I found though in case others need something. Download the program called "Unlocker", it's free and you can get it at http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ When you get the message about the file being in use, even though QuickTime isn't even open, you can unlock the f'ing file and do whatever you want to then, move, uh DELETE, or rename, or whatever. Try it, it's the best thing going so far seeing Apple isn't doing anything about this problem.

    Hi there,
I am still struggling with this problem. Actually my coworker has the same machine, Apple pro with windows xp installed, but he does not have this problem with his quicktime 7.5. I uninstalled 7.5 and installed 7.2, but it did not solve the problem. The fact is that I don't have the problem in my laptop which I am using it in the office. I am still trouble shooting. Hopefully I can find an answer.
    Peace
