File Server IP address change

I am migrating my file server from server 2003 to a new box server 2012. I plan on keeping the hostname same but the IP address will change.
Any known issues with this?
Vijay

    Hello,
I have ACS 4.2.0.124.15   installed on a windows server 2008.
In the configuration menu : network config > AAA server , the AAA-server-IP-address change to 169.254.x.x each time I disconnect the  ethernet interface of the server.
Allthough, the ip adresse in my network connection of the windows-Lan-connection is set to static.
Whe I reconnect the ethernet interface of the server, it stays in 169.154.x.x.  And I need to reconfigure the real static adresse each time.
Do you knows this problem. Is it a way to avoid it ?

  • Not able to access object after server IP address changes

I have an Activatable object that gets registered with the RMIDs registry.
If my servers IP address changes, then when I look up the remote object, I can retrieve it from the registry, but as soon as I make a method call I get an access denied to xx.xx.xx.xx, where xx.xx.xx.xx is the old IP address - and not the new one.
I've tried rebinding the object to the registry after the IP address has changed but with no success.
I've also tried settings -Dnetworkaddress.cache.ttl=0. All my lookups are done by hostname.
    Any ideas?
    TIA
    Ian

If the server changes its IP address all stubs which have already been exported become invalid and must be reacquired. For an Activatable this also means that you must re-register the object as an Activatable as well as rebinding it.

  • Cannot log onto file server, need to change password

I am unable to log on other computers connected to a home network. I am trying to log on as a registered user and have done so in the past, but the username/password combo I thought is correct is not working. Where do I go on the computer I'm trying to connect to to verify I'm using the correct password? Is it the same password the administrator uses?
    Thanks

When you try to log onto the other computer you have to use an admin name and password.
The user name is available on the other computer by going to the Accounts preferences in System Preferences.
The user short name is the name you want.
The password is not available on the computer.
You can check the user name password combo by clicking on the lock in the lower left corner of this same Accounts window. It will bring up the user name and you can then test the password.

  • Cluster File Server Migration

    Dears,
I have my source cluster based on WIndows 2008 R2 with SP1, and my new target cluster is Windows 2012 R2.
when I run the copy wizard it validate if I can migrate the file server, however, it is giving me those in yellow mark:
File Server IP Address is not eligible to be copied. (Failed to read 'EnableDhcp' property)
FileServer01 is not eligible to be copied.
    Is this normal?
How to continue migrating file server role?

    Hi Jean M,
Could you try to manually configure the IPs by referring to the previous 2008 R2 node, then and bring the new file-servers online?

"You have to change your router's IP address to be able to access it. It will not give you the internet."
I'm not sure what that means Richard, but I did change the router's IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.5.1- isn't that what you meant in your first post. I know that isn't reflected in my screen capture that I took last night, but I did do that this morning after I read your post.
"Log on to your router and change two settings.
Change the setting in Setup from PPPoE to Automatic Configuration-DHCP and click on save.
Click on Advance Routing and change the setting from Gateway to Router then click on save."
I did this and still same results as far as I can tell. Can't get online through the router.
"Click on MAC address clone under setup tab ... click enable & click clone ...click save settings ... Check the IPaddress under WAN page ....
If getting IP in public range .... try going online ...."
I tried this- at least to the part about checking the IP address under WAN. I assume you mean the WAN page in the modem setup- nothing looked any different after trying what you suggested, and I'm not really sure where I would be "getting IP in public range" or what that means.
I'm about to give up and just buy a new router to see if I can get the same lack of results with a different one. My ISP maintains that everything is set up correctly on their end and really can't do anything more for me. The Modem works and is set up correctly and they can give tech support for a router.
Here's what my basic setup looks like now:

  • Change of SAP Server IP Address

    Hi,
We are using operating system win 2008 server (IP address: 192.168.50.1), In that we are accessing SAP ECC6.0 Server(IP address: 192.168.50.2)  and SAP Solution Manager server(192.168.50.3) through  HyperV Manager, both servers are installed in windows server 2003.
Recently we are relocating our server.
Now we are planning  to change IP address of servers according to our LAN.
    Like :
win 2008 server IP address: 192.168.50.1 to  192.168.2.1
win 2003 server( SAP ECC6.0) IP address 192.168.50.2 to 192.168.2.2
win 2003 server( SAP Solution manager) IP address 192.168.50.3 to 192.168.2.3
Please suggest me if any impacts while changing the IP Address.
    Regards,
    BBC  Achari

    Dear Achari,
Check whether your machines are configured using hostnames not ip addresses.
look in table rfcdes for sm59 RFC destinations and see if you need to change any ip to valid host names also look at  any scripts that may ftp files to your machine or so
    Also check profiles/scripts/./etc/hosts etc.
Also check your transport management system, it always using hostname but check whether any IP address you have mentioned there.
Except that there is no big risk in changing IP addresses.
    Hope this will help.
    Thanks
    Anil

  • Changed laptops, now iTunes can't find my music on my file server

Ok, here's what happened when I recently switched laptops
    - I use iTunes to point to the music I store on my file server via a network share (WinXP)
    - I manually manage my iTunes folders
    - I took the \My Documents\My Music\iTunes directory from my old laptop and copied it to the same location to my new laptop
    - Installed iTunes 9 on the new laptop
    - When iTunes9 loaded on the new laptop ALMOST all music files in my library loaded with an exclamation point indicating that it couldn't locate the file (even though the file locations never changed)
Ok... so here's the problem. I have over 20,000 songs with ratings information and if I just re-add all the files from the network share to the iTunes library again then it looks like I'd lose those ratings.
The only way that I can see to fix things is to individually point iTunes to the network share location of the file for each file... YUCK!
Is there a script or something I can write to tell it to find these files, or at least copy the ID3 tags to the duplicated songs that I re-added from the network share.
    Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

Something is different in the paths to the files....hence itunes cannot find them.
Sound like you know about the ITL file, which is why you copied it over.
What you can do is look in its companion XML file to see the paths itunes thinks it should be using.
If your XML is really big, open it using WordPad instead of NotePad. About the 10th line down is the itunes preference setting for the itunes folder:
    key>Music Folder</key><string>file://localhost/K:/iTunes%20Music/</string>
On my system it's K:/iTunes Music
The %20 just indicates a space.
Then each song will have its own path
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/K:/iTunes%20Music/Cowboy%20Junkies/The%20Trinity%20Session/07%2 0200%20More%20Miles.mp3</string>
Now....can you see ANYTHING funny in one of those song paths? Is there an extra space, a different user name, anything different than what you could browse to in Windows Explorer?

  • CiscoWorks: Not receiving syslogs, since we change CiscoWorks server IP Address

    Hi,
We  are using CiscoWorks 3.2.1. We have changed CiscoWorks server IP  Address, since then we are not receiving syslogs from Devices. Although  devices configurations have also been changed so that they log to new IP  Address e.g. logging new IP Address. But we are not getting syslogs now.
Rest  all operations of CiscoWorks are working ok. E.g. We can access it from  IE, inventory/config collection working, we can deploy configs etc. But  we are not getting syslogs.
    Also :
    Test Collector Subscription Status
SSL certificate status   SSL certificates are valid and properly imported
Collector status       Collector Server_IP_Address is up and reachable.
but I am not seeing any new alerts receiving here.
    When I do start the SyslogCollector.log/SyslogAnalyzer.log from server, I get below message;

We have already remove the logging on old IP from devices, and now about 4000 devices are logging to new IP.
Above mentioned problem is on CiscoWorks only, as its not collecting the syslogs. Below error message might suggest some solution.

  • Changing UCM Server IP Address

I built an Oracle  Linux 6.6 VirtualBox VM with Oracle DB, WLS and WCC 1.1.1.8 on our office network giving the VM box the static IP of 192.168.2.60 on a bridged network with the host which is my laptop. I want to use it for demos but when the host IP changes or I'm not connected to a network at all, WLS works fine but I can't connect to the UCM on 16200. I've tried shifting to a host only network which gives a subnet of 192.168.56.xxx but I still can't connect to UCM despite changing client HOSTS entries and the Linux eth0 adapter address. It seems something in the server config holds its IP. What do I have to change in the UCM or WLS config to change the UCM IP address please?

It may be that Content Server can't connect to itself when the IP address changes.
The only place the IP address would be hardwired in the system would be in config.cfg in the entry "SocketHostAddressSecurityFilter".  I'd change it here, rather than in EM, and restart the UCM managed server.

  • Peoplesoft Change assistant File server options

    Hi All,
I am pretty new to change assistant, I am configuring Change assistant and it seems my configuration are in correct. CA is able to find app/web,database not able to find my File server.
I am using Peopletools version -8.52.12, Detailed steps given below,
    Tools, Options, Environment Management
Clikc -(View) Opens -Environment Management hub summary for the environments.
    Its shows
    Database Name- DBXYAB
    File Server- No
    Database Server- Yes
    Application Server- Yes
    Web server- Yes
Is there a way to find, what the issue will be and trouble shooting tips, if any.

Given your stated configuration, it should identify the machine running CA as the file server. Worst case, you just have to manually copy files into the file server from the zip file. This is only necessary for your own development purposes. The app and process scheduler servers will use the versions deployed to ps_app_home/ps_home.

  • How can I use Airport Extreme just as a file server - no wifi

I'm setting up a new Apple environment for an invalid music buff.  Here are the components, all newly purchased.
    MacBook Pro
    Airport Extreme
    Airport Express
I was handed a G-Drive with a large iTunes file collection on it.
The user will have Comcast as his network provider and he already has a Comcast wireless router, so none of the Apple devices will need to be used as a wireless router or base station (assuming I understand what Apple means by a "base station").
The Airport Express has the primary function of acting as an AirPlay device, feeding an analog music signal to the user's hi-end audio system (Denon integrated amplifier, Thiel Loudspeakers).
The Airport Extreme has the sole function of acting as a network file share for the G-Drive.
The MacBook Pro will operate iTunes and will get its music files from the network shared G-Drive and send it to the AirPlay device, which will feed the music signal to the hi-end audio system.
I am able to get the Airport Express to simply act as a wireless client on the Comcast provided wireless network.  The MacBook Pro is also on the network and can see the Airport Express as an AirPlay device and send music to the audio system.
What I'm having problems with is getting the Airport Extreme to simply act as a file server on this LAN.  It can either work in bridged mode and just be a wireless network client, or I can readily run an ethernet cable from the Airport Extreme to the Airport Express, or even to the Comcast router.
I tried to connect the MacBook Pro to the Airport Extreme with an ethernet cable and get it to "join an existing network", but it refused to recognize the Comcast provided network.  All it could see were some networks in homes nearby.
I was hoping that if I just ran a network cable between the Airport Extreme and the Airport Express, that it would just get a network address over DHCP through the Airport Express.  Nope.
So I'm stuck.   How do I get the Airport Express to simply act as a file server for the G-Drive on my LAN?

+Can I use the Airport Extreme base station as a wired router, with wireless disabled for the time being?+
Sure, but it will probably take just as much time...a few minutes....to turn the wireless off than simply change the name on the default wireless network to your personal choice.
The AirPort Extreme is pre-configured to create a wireless network when it is hooked up to a modem. All you need do is assign a name to this network and establish a password. If you don't want to do this, you can turn the wireless off and use the device as a wired only router.
AirPort Utility, the application that is used to setup the AirPort Extreme has a simple guided step by step process for you to configure the device the way you want.

  • Server 2012 File Server Cluster Shadow Copies Disappear Some Time After Failover

    Hello,
I've seen similar questions posted on here before however I have yet to find a solution that worked for us so I'm adding my process in hopes someone can point out where I went wrong.
The problem: After failover, shadow copies are only available for a short time on the secondary server.  Before the task to create new shadow copies happens the shadow copies are deleted.  Failing back shows them missing on the primary server as
    well when this happens.
We have a 2 node (hereafter server1 and server2) cluster with a quorum disk.  There are 8 disk resources which are mapped to the cluster via iScsi.  4 of these disks are setup as storage and the other 4 are currently set up as shadow copy volumes
    for their respective storage volume.
Previously we weren't using separate shadow copy volumes and seeing the same issue described in the topic title.  I followed two other topics on here that seemed close and then setup the separate shadow copy volumes however it has yet to alleviate the
issue.  These are the two other topics :
    Topic 1: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/ba0d2568-53ac-4523-a49e-4e453d14627f/failover-cluster-server-file-server-role-is-clustered-shadow-copies-do-not-seem-to-travel-to?forum=winserverClustering
    Topic 2: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/c884c31b-a50e-4c9d-96f3-119e347a61e8/shadow-copies-missing-after-failover-on-2008-r2-cluster
After reading both of those topics I did the following:
    1) Add the 4 new volumes to the cluster for shadow copies
    2) Made each storage volume dependent on it's shadow copy volume in FCM
    3) Went to the currently active node directly and opened up "My Computer", I then went to the properties of each storage volume and set up shadow copies to go to the respective shadow copy volume drive letter with correct size for spacing, etc.
    4) I then went back to FCM and right clicked on the corresponding storage volume and choose "Configure Shadow Copy" and set the schedule for 12:00 noon and 5:00 PM.
    5) I noticed that on the nodes the task was created and that the task would failover between the nodes and appeared correct.
    6) Everything appears to failover correctly, all volumes come up, drive letters are same, shadow copy storage settings are the same, and 4 scheduled tasks for shadow copy appear on the current node after failover.
Thinking everything was setup according to best practice I did some testing by changing file contents throughout the day making sure that previous versions were created as scheduled on server1.  I then rebooted Server1 to simulate failure.  Server2
picked up the role within about 10 seconds and files were avaiable.  I checked and I could still see previous versions for the files after failover that were created on server1.  Unfortunately that didn't last as the next day before noon I was going
to make more changes to files to ensure that not only could we see the shadow copies that were created when Server1 owned the file server role but also that the copies created on Server2 would be seen on failback.  I was disappointed to discover that
the shadow copies were all gone and failing back didn't produce them either.
Does anyone have any insight into this issue?  I must be missing a switch somewhere or perhaps this isn't even possible with our cluster type based on this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc779378%28v=ws.10%29.aspx
Now here's an interesting part, shadow copies on 1 of our 4 volumes have been retained from both nodes through the testing, but I can't figure out what makes it different though I do suspect that perhaps the "Disk#s" in computer management / disk
management perhaps need to be the same between servers?  For example, on server 1 the disk #s for cluster volume 1 might be "Disk4" but on server 2 the same volume might be called "Disk7", however I think that operations like this
and shadow copy are based on the disk GUID and perhaps this shouldn't matter.
Edit, checked on the disk numbers, I see no correlation between what I'm seeing in shadow copy and what is happening to the numbers.  All other items, quotas, etc fail and work correctly despite these diffs:
    Disk Numbers on Server 1:
Format: "shadow/storerelation volume = Disk Number"
    aHome storage1 =   16
    aShared storage2 = 09
    sHome storage3 =   01
    sShared storage4 = 04
    aHome shadow1 =   10
    aShared shadow2 = 11
    sHome shadow3 =   02
    sShared shadow4 = 05
    Disk numbers on Server 2:
    aHome storage1 = 16 (SAME)
    aShared storage2 = 04 (DIFF)
    sHome storage3 = 05 (DIFF)
    sShared storage4 = 08 (DIFF)
    aHome shadow1 = 10 (SAME)
    aShared shadow2 = 11 (SAME)
    sHome shadow3 = 06 (DIFF)
    sShared shadow4 = 09 (DIFF)
Thanks in advance for your assistance/guidance on this matter!

    Hello Alex,
Thank you for your reply.  I will go through your questions in order as best I can, though I'm not the backup expert here.
    1) "Did you see any event ID when the VSS fail?
please offer us more information about your environment, such as what type backup you are using the soft ware based or hard ware VSS device."
I saw a number of events on inspection.  Interestingly enough, the event ID 60 issues did not occur on the drive where shadow copies did remain after the two reboots.  I'm putting my event notes in a code block to try to preserve formatting/readability.
I've written down events from both server 1 and 2 in this code block, documenting the first reboot causing the role to move to server 2 and then the second reboot going back to server 1:

    JANUARY 3
At around 2:30 I reboot Server 2, seeing that shadow copy was missing after previous failure. Here are the relevant events from the flip back to server 1.

We are using Symantec NetBackup.  The client agent is installed on both server1 and 2.  We're backing them up based on the complete drive letter for each storage volume (this makes recovery easier).  I believe this is what you would call "software
based VSS".  We don't have the infrastructure/setup to do hardware based snapshots.  The drives reside on a compellent san mapped to the cluster via iScsi.
    2) "Confirm the following registry is exist:
    - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\Settings"
The key is there, however the DWORD value is not, would that mean that the
default value is being used at this point?

  • "file server is running on your machine" message

OK, this seems very weird & I can't figure out if the issue is in my new (simultaneous dual band) Airport Extreme or the Mac (iMac G5) I use to administer it.
When I try to connect to a USB drive connected to the Extreme from my iMac, & the iMac is connected to the Extreme by ethernet, I see the Extreme in the sidebar of Finder, but when I click on it to access the drive, I get a "connection failed" bar across the top of the Finer window. If I click on the "Connect" button at the end of that bar, I get the following message:
"This file server is running on your machine. Please access the volumes and files locally."
The volumes (the drive is partitioned into two volumes) are not showing up as local ones (in the "Devices" section of the sidebar), so I can't access them "locally."
BUT, if I turn on Airport on the iMac, I get the normal "Connected as ..." bar & the volumes appear as expected in the Finder.
The really weird part is if do not turn on Airport & I use the "Connect to server..." Go menu option & enter "afp://Extreme's_name.local" it connects & either or both volumes mount on the desktop as expected. ("Extreme's_name" is the actual name I have given the device.)
Weirder still, if I have one of these volumed opened in the Finder & click on the Extreme in the sidebar again, I still see the "Connection Failed" bar across the top +yet the volumes are there in the Finder window+, can be opened, & otherwise behave normally.
This behavior persists until I click the eject button in the sidebar, at which point the "Connection Failed" bar reappears & the volumes are no longer listed or accessible. Waaaaa?
FWIW, my MacBook has none of these symptoms. Whether connected by ethernet cable or wirelessly, clicking on the Extreme in the sidebar results in the expected "Connected as ..." behavior.
I tried researching the "running on your machine" message on the web & found some references the problem in connection with Windows (smb) sharing. Sure enough, looking in my keychain access file, I saw several passwords for the Extreme with the "where" info as smb://Extreme's_name. However, deleting these (& even all Extreme-related entries) had no effect.
I'm stumped. Any help or even just a clue would be appreciated greatly.

I seem to have eliminated the 'connection failed' problem & its accompanying 'file server is running on your machine' message as follows:
My Extreme was set up for its DHCP server to assign local IP addresses in the 192.168.2.100 to 192.168.2.199 range. This matched how my old SMC router had been set up for years. The SMC's DHCP server was set up to always assign 192.168.2.100 to my iMac's Ethernet MAC address. I did this because my iMac was set up as a webDAV server to publish an iCal calendar on my local network, using the address "webcal://192.168.2.100/ical/MyCalendar.ics." This worked fine with both the SMC & the Extreme.
I'm not sure why I decided to try it, but I changed the Extreme's DHCP server to assign local IP addresses in the 10.0.2.100 to 10.0.2.200 range. Obviously, this invalidated the address for the published calendar, but the iMac now connects to the Extreme's drive without any problems. (For those who care, changing the calendar's published address to "webcal://MyMac.local/ical/MyCalendar.ics." fixed that issue -- IOW, substitute the computer name for its local IP address. I probably should have done that to begin with, but hindsight is always 20/20, right?)
So my problem is solved, but I still would like to know why this worked. AFAIK, either IP range is equally valid for private networks. Any comments would be appreciated.
