Filenames containing funny letters ()

I have written a Java code with the porpose of uploading files to a server. The problem is when I try to upload a file (using soap) with a name containing the letters I get a corrupt name in OS X.
heres the code
String name= f.getName(); (Here is where it reads wrong and the string name gets corrupt)
soap.upload(f,name,....,.....,...);
I have read the segment Font Encoding on page
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Java/Conceptual/Java14Development/UI_T oolkits/chapter_5_section_3.html
But they say nothing about how to solve this problem. Could some one please help me.

You read the wrong page. That page is about user interfaces and fonts, but your problem is nothing to do with that. Your problem has to do with encodings (charsets) used in SOAP transmissions.
I don't know what the right page to read is, and I don't know how to solve your problem. But you posted this same question before (and I believe a similar answer was given then), so you need to move on. Chances are the Java code you're using at the client is encoding its XML one way and declaring it in the XML a different way. Just a guess.

  • Search 'filename contains' in finder. Help please

    Hello. I need to search my filesystem for any files containing the words "foo" (for example). Currently, when I type 'foo' into my finder search bar, it returns only those filenames starting with the word 'foo'. Can anyone tell me the way to adjust search behavior to search filenames containing 'foo' instead of starting with 'foo'?
    Thanks!

    That's odd: if I open the Applications folder, then do a Command-F search, with the criterion of
    "Name contains and"
    on the Apps folder, I get 143 results, including things like
    GarageBand
    GrandPerspective
    HandBrake
    Random Spheres.bmp
    copyLibFile.command
    bread and wine
    CopyAndPaste.js
    And so on. If I add the restriction, "Kind is Applications" I get four results:
    GrandPerspective
    PandoCalendar
    HandBrake
    GarageBand
    HOWEVER, if I leave the restriction "Kind is Applications" and delete the "Name Contains" criterion, and instead put and in the Search for field I get this bewildering result:
    CSSEdit
    Xee
    Neither seems to have anything to do with my Search for term. Looking at the metadata which is indexed I see both do have the actual word "and" at some point in their metadata. Poking around a bit and thinking, I concluded that the only way to get a partial name search is to use the "Name contains" criterion. If you use the Search box with the only criterion being "Kind is Any" you will get:
    1. Any file that has the word "and" in its content
    2. Any file whose metadata contains the word "and"
    3. A file where "and" is separated in the title by any method that Spotlight recognizes as a delimiter; thus you will get "Roll and Crash" and "Pen And Ink" and "FiveBySevenAndThreeH.txt" but not something like GarageBand.
    The delimiters that I know about off-hand are capital letters, spaces, the underscore (thus something like "washanddry" would show up), and periods (so if a file was named "foo.and.txt" it would show up). There are probably others as well.

  • Cannot insert Captivate Demo - filename contains illegal characters

    RoboHelp HTML v8 on XPpro. Captivate v4.
    I have created a simple Captivate v4 application demo and published to SWF.
    In my RHhtmlv8 project, I create a new topic, and choose Insert > Adobe Captivate Demo.
    The Insert dialog allows me to select my SWF file. It shows it in the Insert dialog and starts to play it.
    No matter what my SWF filename is (e.g. abc.swf, video1.swf, etc.), when I click the OK button in the Insert dialog, I get the error:
    'Unable to rename file, "abc.swf". The filename contains illegal characters.'
    I have searched the forums here and find no solution.
    How do you get support from this company? I went to the support link and it only showed Captivate as an option, even though I have a valid license for RH8 and have registered it. Yet - for 2 days now, I have not heard back from any support via that mechanism.
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff
    When you attempt to insert the demo, by chance do you still have the project open in the Captivate editor? If so, you likely need to close it there before attempting to insert into RoboHelp. I've seen all manner of weirdness with this.
    Another thing that seems to have happened recently that is worth looking at. When you Published your Captivate demo, did you Publish as AS2 or AS3? (For those that may wonder, AS refers to ActionScript. Similar to JavaScript and is the Flash programming language.)
    I've begun to notice issues with inserting Captivate content where I have published as AS3.

  • Reader fails to open mail attachment when filename contains non-us characters

    Tested reader with 2 identical pdf attachments in email (same pdf, different filename). If filename contains, in this case, scandinavian characters like ä or ö (auml or ouml), reader flags error "The file path is not valid". This is a serious error, there is no other easy way to read to attachment on the road.
    Tested with Nokia Lumia 800 with Adobe Reader version  10.1.1 Build 20120919.

    There seems to be an issue here that neither MS nor we were aware of. The WinPhone SDK that we are using has a flaw, and does not properly translate all of the international characters from the source app to our application. By the time we get the pathname from the OS it has been garbled. We are using a special SDK from MS that allows us to use our native C++ rendering engine on the device, and apparently that special SDK is where the problem lies.
    We have a partial fix awaiting Microsoft Review Approval, but it is currently hung up because our app does not work on Windows Phone 8. The special SDK we had to use for our Windows Phone 7 app is not supported by Windows Phone 8, and we need to get the store approval team to grant an exception for our continued updates.
    I say this all not to rationalize, but to at least communicate to you what the status is.

  • Can't create file with filename contains user-defined character

    Dear all,
    I got a question about directory listing and file creation. My development OS is Win2K traditional chinese version and my JDK is 1.4.0 Internationation version.
    My program copy each of file into another directory. I call File.lists() to get an array of filename String, I then create the file in the destination directory. However, I got error while the filename contains some chararters that I created in my system only by Win2K character creation utility. I found those characters become "?" if I printf them. How could I overcome this problem? Thanks.
    ArthurPan

    The limitation here is not caused by Java at all.
    Java handles UNICODE characters, the concept of ASCII characters is only loosely retained by accident, mainly because the ASCII set is retained as is in UNICODE.
    The limitation here is the Operating System whose filesystem does not support UNICODE names. As far I as can remember, although the System default locale can be your language equivalent, the filesystem does not necessarily support UNICODE filenames even though it may actually be able.
    What you need to do is check the file.encoding property in Java and set that using the -Dfile.encoding=BIG-5 or whatever when starting your application. This may help with the file name problem.

    Does it begin with 1057? If not, it's a redemption code. In which case, see here:

    If it is a serial number, go to system preferences>security & privacy>firewall>firewall options and be sure that PSE is allowed to call out.

  • Search files which filename contains a speicific string

    Hi
    I'm lookng for a way to find all files in a directory which part of filename contains a specific string.
    e.g.:
    string = hello
    files;
    - 1hello2.txt
    - 22he45.txt
    - gehello42353.txt, ....
    The result should be either an index or the complete filename that matches. In the example I'd found index 0 and 2, or 1hello2.txt and gehello42353.txt.
    Actually I have the list of the files with the "recursive list.vi".
    Any suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks for your precious help
    Yves
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    You can use List Folder - function with *hello* -pattern.
    From there you get filenames, which include that specific pattern.
    If you allready have list of files:
    - use Scan string for tokens in a for loop and if token index != -1, then you can add that array index to the list.
    I´m sure there are better ways to do this, but nothing I can come up with quickly.

  • Open file error when filename contains particular characters

    In windows platform, when i try to open a file when the filename contains uncommon chars, such as ’ (different than ' ), the call to OpenFile returns false.
    The filename is a wchar_t* , and I've tried any flavour of conversion to char* using WideCharToMultiByte, with no success.
    Any hint?
    Does the toolkit (5.5.0) support extended character set ?

  • NoClassDefFoundError when jar filename contains '#' sign

    Hi,
    I'm running JRE 1.3.0_02 and have the following problem;
    The application I'm trying to run uses a jar which contains a '#' sign in its path (not something I can change 'coz I'm running it from a Synergy CM archive which creates symbolic links to cache objects)
    e.g.
    /some#dir/lib.jar
    or
    /somedir/lib#21321.jar
    The jre does not recognize this and throws an 'ClassDefNotFoundError'. If the jar's location (and filename) does not contain a '#' al works fine. The symbolic link is also not an issue.
    The machine I'm running on is a:
    'SunOS 5.8 Generic_108528-13 sun4u sparc SUNW,Netra-T4'
    TIA

    BTW: the problem does not occur with JVM 1.4.1_02

  • Sender file adapter - filename containing  *  does not work

    Hi All,
    I am doing simple file-file scenario wherein my filename is something like
    MATMAS05_XI20070911-150159-088.xml
    there are many files having similar kind of  name which are supposed to be picked
    so simply I can go on writing <b>MATMAS05_XI*.xml</b> in filename
    it is not working.. communication monitoring gives error <i>Error occurred while connecting to the FTP server "10.25.117.237:21": java.lang.NullPointerException</i>
    But  when I use character '?' then it works fine - '?'  placeholder for each extra character
    I am on SP 20.My adapter is configured properly. FTP server working fine with '?' or simple filename. So bit confused why it is not working with *
    Are there some BASIS settings which have to be in place to work it out with * ?
    All your inputs are welcome !!
    Thank You,

    If there is a mismatch between what you do in your code in Oracle, and what the o/s is configured for, then this type of "+translation+" error is to be expected.

  • Get-ChildItem with -LiteralPath is throwing "The specified wildcard character pattern is not valid" when filenames contain brackets

    I'm trying to get a list of folders in a hierarchy that don't contain any mp3 files. (The goal here is to eventually clean up all the "empty" folders that only have album art, thumbs.db, desktop.ini, etc. files left). So I wrote a quick PowerShell
    command to try to do this. But it doesn't seem to be working.
    I already checked out this thread <Get-ChildItem
    SomeFile[].txt occurs error because of the [brackets]: "specified wildcard pattern not valid"> and I think I'm using LiteralPath correctly. Any other hints for troubleshooting this problem? Here's the command I'm using.
    Get-ChildItem -Recurse -Directory | ?{
    @( @(Get-ChildItem -LiteralPath $_.FullName -Recurse) | ?{
    $_.Extension -eq ".mp3"}).Count -eq 0 }
    This is on the latest version of PowerShell found in Windows Technical Preview.

    Fair enough, but it still doesn't answer the original question- why isn't this working with -LiteralPath when the path contains brackets?
    Get-ChildItem -Recurse -Directory | ?{
    @( @(Get-ChildItem -LiteralPath $_.FullName -Recurse) | ?{
    $_.Extension -eq ".mp3"}).Count -eq 0 }
    Thanks,

  • Look for a filename containing a Wildcard (how to?)

    My program enters a loop, and when a certain file is found, the loop exits and resumes duties. The file will start with "Pos_" or "Neg_" or "Warn_" then have some arbitrary junk, before suffixing in txt. So... how do I search for a filename with a wildcard? The attached JPG is how I'd like to do it, (and this works fine if the filenames are constant) but of course it doesn't work for the wildcard.
