when I submitted my iPhoto book to Apple, an error caused the  image file to be unreadable or unprintable, why can anyone help me please:)
what I did with my system was following:
    1. Update your software.
    2. Restart your computer.
    3. Make sure all applications are closed.
    4. Open iPhoto or Aperture.
    5. While all other applications are closed, preview your print product as a
    PDF.
    6. Resubmit your order.
and still my PDF ibook file looked like my photos were scratched across the photos. Please help:)
    Thank you
    CJ

    Yes me too!!
I thought that I had done someting wrong.  The first time it was my first attempt so I did not preview the photobok (did not know this trick).  When I did the cover photos were completely ruined with lines and code.
The second time I changed everything and even made a different sized book - thinking my photo files were too big.  I dutifully previewed before buying the book and everything was fine.  Then a few days later got the usual e-mail message from Apple. When I previewed the project again ALL of the photos were corrupted.
What to do - I need to get the photobook to friends to celebrate their engagement!
If I saved the pdf then submitted this would that work??
Any thoughts - I am working on a large project and do not want to go any further if all the work will be ruined on buying the book.

  • Files opening in unreadable code need help urgently please

When I was given my new Toshiba laptop as a gift in 2007 Microsoft Office with Word and Excel etc were already set up so I do not have any discs or keycodes. .Being a senior person, it is also possible that my son who gifted it to me may have installed the above mentioned discs to help set me up, but he does not have any recollection of this, except that he gave me the Toshiba Recovery Disc which I do have.
My laptop had to go back to Toshiba some time ago for a Manufacture- related issue. They also informed me that some of my files were corrupted. All features remained on my computer as prior to repair, so nothing was lost or had to be re-loaded.
I have found that since then all my docs are opening in code form and are unreadable. Microsoft Word seems to have disappeared and I have had to install an old Microsoft Works 2001 disc in order to be able to work on new documents. Microsoft Onenote was on the disc but not Word, so the docs will not open with Onenote, so I am stuck.
Is it possible for me to find out if Toshiba holds the keycode to my original Microsoft Office and would I be able to download it again.? I cannot afford to buy a full new Office system and I have no way of knowing which Microsoft Office ( 2007? )created the documents. I have to know if there is any way I can read these documents and also to establish which of them may be corrupted so that I can delete them. Would a system restore make the documents readable? I am very untechnical minded with regard to computers as you can observe from my wording and would really appreciate any help you can give as I cannot afford to pay someone who keeps my computer for a day or more and then charges me an extortionate amount.
Thank you so much in advance if you can help me in any way with easy to follow instructions/advice.

What is the model number of your laptop?
A Trial version of MS Office may have been pre-installed. If you activated Office (Purchased a license), then you could try calling Microsoft to re-activate it.
If you reinstall Windows using your Toshiba Recovery Disc, the Office installation should be installed. (Note that the Recovery Disc will delete your data, so back up your files first).
Alternatively, you could use OpenOffice to read your documents. OpenOffice (free) works with Microsoft Office files.

  • Error encountered when scrolling over particular InDesign CS2 page, causes file to crash

I am working on a 36.6 MB InDesign file with 134 pages. There is at least one photo on each page. Most of the photos are linked in to a server.
When I scroll to page 93, I always get an error message and the option to debug. But the debug always fails and InDesign closes.
I have updated my InDesign CS2 to 4.0, but have had no luck.
    Here is the error signature:
    AppName: indesign.exe AppVer: 4.0.5.688 ModName: master page.rpln
    ModVer: 4.0.5.688 Offset: 000053b6
    Please, please help.

Is page 93 based on a different master from the others?
I think this could be caused by either a bad graphic or a bad font on the page.
I also remember, vaguely, something about closing the links palette and or Navigator might help, as probably, would moving the links to your hard drive.

  • Will adding keywords or other metadata changes to jpeg cause file to be compressed?

Hi, I've been searching on this for hours and not finding a definitive answer.
Will adding/modifying keywords or metadata (ok if this is two seperate questions)
cause a jpeg file to be compressed again while the changes are saved to disk?
    thanks for any assistance,
    William

Thanks for the reply. I am somewhat clearer on exporting and I understand the non-destructive changes concept for LR.
Maybe a better question would be " Does Lightroom recompress a jpeg when writing to the XMP space in the file?" please correct me if "XMP space" is not he correct term for where keywords are stored.

Any ideas how to resolve this or is it a bug?
    Thanks
    Craig

    Hi Craig,
Deactivating the alert could be the latest solution, but you should first check how the tempfiles are setup. If they are set as sparse files they might not use all the allocated space at FS level, but might grow up to it and cause an overflow...
To deactivate that behavior you should copy temp files with a specific cp option (--sparse=never) to deactivate the sparse attribute as explained in the here under notes (the 2nd one is for 11g only thus not valid for you).
    Regards
548221 - Temporary Files are created as sparse files
Oracle creates files of temporary tablespaces as sparse files.
'Sparse' is a special property a file in Unix operating systems can have. Sparse files are files that can dynamically grow and shrink depending on their content. So many sparse files can use a common pool of free disk space. Also the creation of a sparse file is much faster than creation of a normal file.
Problems can occur if sparse files on the same disk grow in parallel and there is not sufficient free disk space for all to extend.
Usage of sparse files is not a bug. Therefore there is no possibility to tell Oracle not to use sparse files for the temporary tablespace if the operating system offers sparse file functionality.
1864212 - Forcing complete space allocation for temp files
By default, temp files are not initialized when the file is created and therefore the disk space is not pre-allocated in the file system.

  • Multiple (Legacy) Blur Effects plus various opacities cause file to crash upon Save. What to do?

We have to work with designers' files and we have some that have many layered objects that use Gaussian Blur effects created in CS5 (we're in CS6), plus various opacities, opacity masks, etc. Pretty much the kitchen sink. The files can't be saved except by using the most powerful Mac in the office. I have a Quad-Core processor running Snow Leopard, with 6 GB of RAM, and it's not enough. Any tricks? Perhaps saving without Use Compression or something?

Lots to be excited about. BUT...Just updated to 8.1 on one of my computers to test it out...
Sadly, the following issue is NOT fixed for me. Is it with new projects only?  I haven't started a new project on 8.1 I've only opened an old project but the issue that I'm referring to which involves also a delay/freeze of anywhere from a few seconds to a MINUTE while the render bar goes from yellow to red and then back to yellow is still there. Boo.
    On the list above...
Switching between sequences can turn the render bar red.
This issue is incredibly easy to replicate. I really do hope it gets fixed. Here are the steps:
    1) Create two sequences with multiple short clips (the more clips the better)
    2) Make sure GPU acceleration is enabled.
    3) Add warp stabilizer to the clips in both sequences. Again, the more clips the longer the delay/freeze will be as the render bar goes from YELLOW to RED and then eventually back to YELLOW again.
    4) Hit SAVE.
    5) Now, toggle between sequences. You'll hit a short delay with a few clips stabilized and a LONG delay with lots stabilized. In my case this delay is around a full minute. The render bar will go from YELLOW to RED and then back to yellow...eventually.
    6) Toggle back to the original sequence and the delay occurs again.
    7) Once you've toggled between sequences and have gone through this delay, that's it, there is no longer a delay...UNTIL...(and here's the big kicker)...until the project is SAVED again. After that the issue returns when you toggle between sequences. Both saving manually and AUTOSAVING cause this issue. No way around it except not editing with GPU acceleration.
Not sure what the issue is...caching issue when saving maybe? Either way, it stinks and it's still there in 8.1. Big bummer.
Again, lots to be excited about with this release but I really was hopefully this specific issue was resolved.
    Sigh.

  • FileReader deletes Files!!!!

    Hi,
    I have the following code:
    File f = new File("c:\\abc");
    try
    BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(f));
    reader.close();
    catch(Exception e)
    e.printStackTrace();
The File abc has no reading permission --> in WINDOWS.
If I call the programm a FileNotFound exception is thrown and the
    file is DELETED.
Do you have any idea why?
Can anybody try this code and tell me if the file is also deleted afterwards please?
    Thanks in advance,
    Anita

    There is a way -->
right mouse click on the file
    properties
security ... or so --> i have the german version
there you can give permissions for every group and every access
    (read, write, ...)
    I denied all.
Then I started my program -- an the file was deleted.

  • USB causing file corruption?

    Hi all,
I've been using external usb drives on my macbook for a while now, both harddrives and flash sticks. I recently noticed that some photo's I copied on a flash drive got corrupted. After doing some research I found that a lot of the files I store on my harddrive are somewhat corrupted. I verified by downloading some files and checking MD5 hash and also copying files and checking integrity with par2 hashes.
The harddrive is directly plugged into the macbook so power can't be an issue. I pretty much eliminated faulty formats by testing with multiple devices. That leaves me with either a hardware defect or faulty USB drivers. Any ideas or similar experiences?
Ps: I do have macfuse installed, though I ought it unlikely to effect things considering corruption also happens on HFS+ formatted drives.
Edit: It might be worh noting that corruption doesn't seem to happen continuously; maybe in 1 out of 3 downloaded/moved files.

  • Dual Booting with mSATA causing file corruption

Have a T520 with an Intel SSD. Last week I added a Kingston mSATA to install Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Pulled the SSD before installing Windows 8. Then put it back in. Since doing the install have had lots of issues with both drives, although most of the issues are with the SSD and Windows 7. Somehow, a bunch of system files and program files on the SSD have been corrupted.
Whenever I would boot to Windows 8 on the mSATA, Windows 8 would work fine. But when I would shut down and then boot to Win7 on the SSD, CHKDSK would run after the opening Windows logo and before the login screen, usually to check the SSD, but sometimes the mSATA., saying the disk needed to be checked for consistency. The first few times, CHKDSK found just a few things to fix. Then one time Win7 wouldn't open after a CHKDSK...I'd get a black screen with a cursor arrow (that I could move with the trackpoint). So I booted to the Win7 install disk and did a repair and that seemed to fix the system problems (although a few programs still have issues). I ran the Intel SSD Toolbox to scan the SSD and it didn't find any problems.
Then tonight I booted to the mSATA (no problems), then when I booted to the SSD and CHKDSK ran, it found a bunch of problems on the SSD. Here are a few representative samples:
Attribute record of type 0xa0 and instance tag 0x4 is cross linked
starting at 0x10c for possibly 0x5 clusters.
Some clusters occupied by attribute of type 0xa0 and instance tag 0x4
in file 0x1c9 is already in use.
Deleting corrupt attribute record (160, $I30)
    from file record segment 457.
The index bitmap for index $I30 in file 0x13e is invalid or missing.
Correcting error in index $I30 for file 318.
Recovering orphaned file System.Data.DataSetExtensions.dll (15412) into directory file 318.
Recovering orphaned file System.Data.Entity.Design.dll (15414) into directory file 318.
Figure I need to do a clean reinstall of Win7 on both drives, but would like to figure out what's going on before I do so I don't spend a day reinstalling only to have the same problems reappear.
    All help appreciated.

Is there some way to get '8 to do full shutdown?  Does that make any difference?
Yes.  Fast Startup can be disabled.  I haven't discovered all of the ways to get to the option but here's at least one of them:
Control Panel | Power Options | System Settings
You'll see the checkbox under the Shutdown Settings section of the page at the bottom. Most likely you'll need to click the admin permission required link at the top to "Change settings that are currently unavailable".
The way I really discovered this was when I went to the "Choose what closing the lid does" task in the Power Options area.

iTunes is free... there is no membership fee.

  • Exporting to Powerpoint causes file size to expand almost 10X

I am a new Keynote user. I like the program, but I sometimes need to be able to send presentations to Powerpoint users. The export process is simple and worked fine, but in my first attempt to export a small Keynote presentation it increased from 3.3 MB in Keynote to 27 MB in Powerpoint. Does anyone know how I can keep the Powerpoint file from increasing so much in size?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Try doing this:
#1 choose Show Master Slides from the view icon in your tool bar in Keynote
#2 go through and delete master slides (Just click on one and choose delete). If you're asked to replace that slide with another one, hit cancel and assume that slide is being used in your preso, so you can't delete it.
#3 once you've removed all unused masters, try the export again and see if it's any smaller (and report back here if it is as I haven't tried this yet).

it's usually best to restore the ipod when you're getting one of those. see:

the restore will clear all content off the ipod.

  • CS3 Indesign library is causing file sizes to be insane... anyone else have this problem?

A large corporation that I contract for has asked me to figure out their file size issue.
They have hundreds of library items - almost all of which are simple illustrations created in InDesign. (Line art, minimal fills, no gradients, roughly 20-50 segments on average.) They have created all of their art using InDesign (or in Illustrator and then pasting into InDesign before placing in the library) so they could pull things out of the library, ungroup, and make quick alterations. Their other logic in this workflow was to keep from having a trail of links.
Unfortunately, the file sizes seem to be skyrocketing. I created 2 test documents using identical illustrations. The document with the InDesign native art was nearly 4 times the size of the one that had the Illustrator native files (placed as images - then put in the library before placing in the test doc).
The company wants to remedy their file size issue but really needs to here the logic behind this library behavior... Does anyone have any experience with this issue or knowledge of why this line art is creating such a problem? I have my theories, but I need some facts to effect change.

I'm not sure, but I think the difference is that the native illustration contains the vector information, while the linked illustration contains just the link information, i.e. the path to the location where the vector is stored and possibly the preview. I bet if you move one of the linked files the library item will break.
Just tried that, and it seems to be the case.
