Filereader cause file to be unreadable

Question

i uses the folowing to create a file
     public void openfile()
          try {
               //FileWriter fw = new FileWriter("Apprecord.txt");
               fw = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter("Apprecord.txt",true));
          //BufferedWriter fw = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter("test.txt"));
               display.setText("File Open for record");
          catch(IOException e)
               display.setText("File Not Found");
     }//END OPENFILE()
then i write data in it
     public void writerecord()
          try{
               display.setText("File Open for record");
               display.append("\n"+childfield.getText());
               display.append("\n"+agefield.getText());
               String child = childfield.getText();
               fw.write(child);
               String age = agefield.getText();
               fw.write(age);
               }//END TRY
          catch(IOException io)
               display.setText("Write file error");
     }//END WRITERECORD
all when well but the data i got in my file is one continuous line. i need the data to be in some form that i can display accordingly. anyone can help me??

to change line, use
String newline = System.getProperty("line.separator");
