Files saved as JPG converting to Gray

Strangest thing. A user is opening an RGB color image from Bridge CS4 into Photoshop CS4, then doing a simple Save As... to JPG format. In Bridge, the new file will show briefly in color, then convert to Grayscale. And when the new file is opened, it really is grayscale.
Those are literally the only steps we're doing -- Open, Save As... (jpg format), close.
I moved the file to my computer and I don't get this result -- my JPG stays RGB.
We can't find any preference in Bridge that would be doing an auto-conversion, nor does there appear to be anything in the file that would suggest it should save as anything but color. We completely reset Bridge and the problem persists.
Anybody got any ideas?
Thanks,
--Mike

Thanks Wayne!
No, I don't have MS Excel installed.
But my question is more to do with why Numbers opens my .xls file as a .number file.
In Finder, both identical files are side by side, one with XLS written across it.
When I click this, it opens in Numbers with the extension .numbers across it.
So, is this because it's Numbers that's opening it (and really it's still an .xls file)?   Or is it not saving as an .xls file at all?
Thanks,
Megan

  • Is it possible when saving the psd file to have an automatic jpg file saved at the same time?

My work involves preparing images for printing lightboxes and window installations.  My clients require to pre-approve the photos before printing.
I usually save my files as psd but since the files are very large in this format I usually save another copy as a jpg file that has a much smaller file size.  This makes it possible for me to add these to a presentation and and send them to my client.
Is it possible when saving the psd file to have an automatic jpg file saved at the same time?  Or do I still have to do this manually?

If you save the document manually as a PSD file in Phtoshop not from within an Action, Script, Plugin or Droplette.  You may be able to write a Photoshop that would do as save as Jpeg,  And you should be able trigger its execution by setting up a Script Save event using the Script event manager.  When You do a manual save  the script should be triggered.  I wrote may be able to for I have never tried to write that script or set up a Script Manager Save event.  I have only use open events.

  • Acrobat 7 not converting images and saving as .jpg, any ideas?

I am running Windows XP with MS Word 07. When I copy a photo in Word, open Adobe Acrobat 7 (latest update) and select "File > Create .pdf > From Clipboard Image" all seems to work fine--the photo shows up on the screen within Acrobat. The problem starts when I click "File > Save As > .jpg > Save." I go to the location that I saved the file; however, it isn't there. I changed the folder option in xp to show all hidden files and still nothing. Has any had this problem and or ideas on how to fix? Thank you!

I did try saving it as a .pdf first and then did a "save as" .jpg. Acrobat seems to run through the process just fine; however, when I go to where the file should be, it's not there. I like using Acrobat for this versus MS Paint because Acrobat seems so much faster. With MS Paint, I find that I have to enter in dimensions to have the .jpg show correctly.

  • Convert to Gray scale issue in spot color file

    Hi,
I am having some problem in Acrobat X Pro on Convert to Gray Scale Preflight Fixup, but the same PDF file is working good in Acrobat 9.0 Pro for the same process.
Even I tried with the error report, but there was no error details in that report.
Please help me out to find the reason for that problem. The PDF file is having a spot color.
Please find the RGB and converted Gray image
    Thanks in advance,

  • Help with add cover art by saving a file as preview.jpg

I need help. Im new to mac and have all my movie files on my external drive. I found out how to make an alias folder and it works great in Front Row. But when I look at the movie in Front Row. All I see is a blue folder. I read another post stating that it can be done and this is what I got,
Front Row in Leopard supports playing VIDEO_TS folders. You can also add cover art by saving a file as preview.jpg in the parent directory. The folder structure would be like the following.
/Users/fred/Movies/The Day the Earth Stood Still/VIDEO_TS/
/Users/fred/Movies/The Day the Earth Stood Still/preview.jpg
But how do I save it this way? Thanks guys and girls!

!!! But how do I save it this way? Thanks guys and girls!
That other post looks like one I wrote. I am note sure what you are stuck on, except perhaps you are not using VIDEO_TS folders.
The normal location for Front Row to look for movies is /Users/yourname/Movies in that movies folder you can put either movie files, or folders containing movie files, or aliases to folders containing movie files (which might via the alias be on another hard drive).
If you are using video files e.g. an AVI, or MPG, or MOV then these normally should be added in to iTunes and Front Row can access them via the iTunes library. iTunes will then let you set a 'poster' frame for the movie.
If the movie is a full VIDEO_TS (i.e. a copy of a DVD) then you cannot add these to iTunes and you cannot set a poster frame. Therefore Front Row which in Leopard now supports playing VIDEO_TS folders has provided another mechanism to provide a poster for each VIDEO_TS movie, which is the previously mentioned preview.jpg file.
This literally is just a standard JPG file, I get most of mine from Amazon.com to match the DVD covers, but some people prefer using movie posters rather than DVD covers, and in that case you could try getting a suitable JPG from http://www.impawards.com/
So, in /Users/yourname/Movies you would either create a folder for each movie (VIDEO_TS) like the following
/Users/yourname/Movies/The Day the Earth Stood Still/
    /Users/yourname/Movies/Soylent Green/
    /Users/yourname/Movies/Forbidden Planet/
or you would put an alias in Movies to a folder on another drive containing individual folders for each movie, I will use italics to represent an alias
    /Users/yourname/Movies/MovieDrive/
MovieDrive would then contain folders for each movie
/MovieDrive/The Day the Earth Stood Still/
    /MovieDrive/Soylent Green/
    /MovieDrive/Forbidden Planet/
Each movie folder e.g. "The Day the Earth Stood Still" would contain firstly a JPG file called "preview.jpg" which would be your poster or DVD cover image, and also the VIDEO_TS folder which is a copy of the DVD.
/MovieDrive/The Day the Earth Stood Still/preview.jpg
/MovieDrive/The Day the Earth Stood Still/VIDEO_TS/
    /MovieDrive/Soylent Green/preview.jpg
    /MovieDrive/Soylent Green/VIDEO_TS/
    /MovieDrive/Forbidden Planet/preview.jpg
    /MovieDrive/Forbidden Planet/VIDEO_TS/
Note: VIDEO_TS is the standard folder name used on DVDs and you have to keep that name so that Front Row know it is from a DVD and therefore how to play it, however in order to let Front Row list them under individual names you put the VIDEO_TS folder inside a folder which would be the Movie name, as shown above.
In Front Row you would select "Movies" this lists the contents of
    /Users/yourname/Movies
If you have put an alias in Movies it would list this as a folder which in Front Row you would select. Front Row would then list all the movie folders you have created and it would automatically see the preview.jpg files and VIDEO_TS folders in each movie folder you have created. Front Row would then know to display as a poster the preview.jpg when you highlight each movie folder.

  • Editing TIFF files from camera and saving as JPG

I have searched extensively for this and feel like it must be answered somewhere but haven't found it. Call me an idiot.
I have a camera that can save a picture as a tiff and jpg files simultaneously.
When I open the tiff file in PE2 it is strange. It something like a negative and strange colors. In addition, it seems to have a small portion from the right side that has moved to the left side of the picture.
Does this mean there is something wrong with the tiff files?
I have tried opening it and saving as jpg. Then opening the jpg just shows the same strange image.
Do I need a newer version of PE?
    Thanks

Well I found something finally on the internet. Apparently it is a problem with the 2GB SD card in my Panasonic FZ20 properly storing the file. I will have to look into it more. The card is an Ultra II San Disk. The sorry part is that the accompanying jpg is much smaller than if I taken the picture as jpg to start with.
See the following link if you have a similar problem.

  • Saving Illustrator .ai file as a .jpg

I have Creative Suite 3 on Windows. In Illustrator how do I save a file as a .jpg? Also how do I make the coloured text white? I have managed to change the body of the text but I can't seem to change the ® into white characters. I can't seem to stroke the path or text.

    H&P1,
    You should be able to:
File>Export and then choose JPEG, either CMYK or RGB
Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Alt(Option+S to Save for Web, as RGB.
You may change the colour of type in the following way:
In the Appearance palette flyout select Add New Fill, and then you can insert the desired colour.
Adding a stroke is for changing the outer shape and changing the colour at the rim.

  • Saving an Illustrator file as a jpg

I'm trying to save an Illustrator file as a jpg, but when I exported it, the image quality was so horrible. I created an alphabet and there was plenty of space in the margins on the artboard, but in the jpg image, some of the letters are cut off and the quality of the image as a whole is super fuzzy.

do you really need a jpg? a png would be more suited for text.
but anyway. what settings are you using in your export?
i don't know what to say other than maximize your settings. make sure you have enough resolution. do you have "use art boards" selected? what antialiasing setting are you using?
if you need a preview of what it's going on Save For Web instead so you can play wight he settings till you get what you need.

  • When are renderd files saved ?

    pe 11
I want to know when PE saves the rendered files (I mean rendering for editing, not the final rendering for export) and when the program doesn't save the rendered files.
You should expect that PE saves also the rendered files at the moment you save (or/and autosave) but in my project I estimate only 2/10 of the timeline is green after loading the project again. So most rendered preview files are NOT saved in my case ...
So I have to start rendering everytime and this takes than longer and longer before I can start work ...

    fredowww66
Again, the preview files generated when you direct the program to give you the best possible preview are not deleted or damaged in their hard drive save location when you save/close a project with the "rendered look" and then reopen it to find the "unrendered look". There appears to be a disconnect between the project and those "rendered files", be those rendered files DV AVI from a SD project or MPEG2.mpeg from a HD project....either that or there is a problem with the indicator line itself programming.
Reports of this issue peaked around Premiere Elements 7 and have presented less frequently from then until now. But, it does happen even today with Premiere Elements 11 and 12 without a real explanation for how, when, or where. The problem has never been confined just to the use of .psd files in Premiere Elements. Today, I revisited the issue specifically for Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 7 64 bit some .psd files versus their .jpg counterparts.
    a. When I took 4 .psd files into a project, rendered - orange indicator line to green, saved closed the project and then reopened it, the 4 .psd files presented with orange line over their contents. At the same time, the preview files generated automatically by the rendering process were still alive and well in their hard drive save location.
    b. When I took the same 4 .psd files and converted them to .jpg files, and repeated "a", the 4 .jpg files presented with a green line over their contents immediately before save close and immediately after reopening. But, based on the history of this problem, we cannot be sure that will be the case all the time for all the versions with the different computer operating systems.
Yes, in this situation, if you want to render the Timeline content for the reopened project, the program will let us and will generate another batch of preview files to add to the existing ones which appear to be disconnected from the reopened project.
    Considerations
    1. Ignore and proceed knowing that you saw the best possible preview before the save close of the project. But, if you edit that re-rendered content, you will get the orange render indicator line anyway and will have to render to get the best possible preview of what you just edited.
    2. If you do not want to render the whole Timeline with its orange line over it, you can render selectively by setting the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar to span just the content to be rendered.
    3. You can render the whole Timeline in the re-opened project.
Some just in case notations...Rendering is not going to improve the quality of the end product. It is just an opportunity to catch a problem sooner than later. It is particularly indicated for titles, transitions, effects, and non native formats.
My take on the situation is that you will need to find a way to adjust your workflow according to what is. Based on history and this issue, there is no evidence to suggest otherwise.
By the way, if you are preparing your images in Photoshop, do not apply the CMYK color model. Premiere Elements (any version) does not support it.

  • I cannot save pictures from facebook to "my Pictures" files on my hard drive. There is no place to indicate the type of file, such as jpg etc.

I have been copying a picture & pasting it on my AOL email & saving photos from Facebook from email . Also, I cannot watch videos posted by my friends on Facebook.
Firefox works fast on scrolling thru Facebook but I haven't found it to be that helpful for simple things I want to do.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Hi perric,
On the first issue about pictures.
    * You can set Firefox to ask you where to save the file rather than always using the Downloads folder. This article describes how to set that: [[Startup, home page and download settings]].
    * When you say "there is no place to indicate the type of file, such as jpg etc." is the problem that Facebook isn't including that in the file name and you need to add it? If you could explain this part a bit more.
    * Another way to save pictures is to use the Page Info dialog. While on the page with the images, you can use either:<br><br>* right-click and choose View Page Info > Media<br>* Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Media<br><br>As you scroll down the list, you can preview and use the Save As button to save those "hard to get" images.
On the second issue about videos.
    * Do you see a gray space indicating that you need a plugin? Or does the video not play when you click it? Please explain what you're experiencing in a little more detail.
    * In case you do not have the Flash player plugin for Firefox, you can get it here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ (make sure to uncheck any unwanted extras that Adobe might offer). If you do the download from IE, you won't get the right version. In that case, use this link to choose the non-IE plugin: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
    Hope that helps a bit.

  • Why can't i save an edited .raw file as a .jpg

I am using PSE 10 and with other catalogs i had no problem of editing my .raw files (6.7version) and then opening them and after further editing doing a "save as" and saving it as a .jpg file in a version set.
now I am working with another set of picture files and when i try to save the final edited it suggests:
ed-1.psd and the drop down menue also lists: psd, pdd, pse, .raw, png and TIFF.(there are no layers in the file)
search of FAQ was unsuccessful. I have avague recollection of having this similar problem years ago with other earlier versions of PSE but can't remember the solution. This is my first instance of this problem. Other info that may help is i believe this is a "converted catalog" from PSE 8. I am running on WIN 7 Prof, 64 bit
    Appreciate any help
    Dan Y
I went back to a previous different catalog>same computer, same PSE10 and selected a previous version set consisting of the original >raw file and the saved edited file ed-1.jpg and selected the original .raw file, opened full edit, it opens in ARW 6.7 as before, then opened the file in the PSE10 editor and tried to save as a .jpg ( which i obviously did in the last few days at most)(no changes made to computer or programs) and it WOULD NOT OPEN AS A .jpg AS DESCRIBED ABOVE.
    HOPE THIS HELPS

You are possibly working with a 16 bit image. Before clicking the Open Image button in the camera raw dialog change the drop down to 8 bit and you should then be able to save as jpeg.

  • Saving as .jpg or .tiff loses black

    I am in CS5
    Mac
After saving and opening up as a .tiff or .jpg the black has faded and becomes much more weak, why is this? This happens every so often when I'm working with files, but I don't know the reason, maybe a setting I need to tick? If anyone has the solution or suggestions I would much appreciate it.
-I created my event poster in CMYK, the darkest black I used was 75, 68, 67, 90
-I have 1 photo (background mountains) that was orginally RGB and converted to CMYK when brought in.
-Tested merging all layers together and the outcome was fine, only after saving and viewing is it faded
-Could this be a monitor issue, or even the settings in my "preview" that are throwing this off?
    Color settings
    Screenshot of original .PSD file
Screenshot of JPG and TIFF file

I re-opened the .jpg in PS and it looks perfect, I also opened in acrobat & firefox and it looks like it should. What the heck preview! What do you use to view your non .psd files after they are finished?
