Filter on File Name

The filtering options in Aperture 3 is very powerful but I can't find a way of filtering on the file name. In the "Add rule" in the pop-up menu for filtering there is no choice of "File name" but a whole lot of other choices.
When I choose a picture and select "File Info" in the Metadata pane, I see both the version name and the file name. I can also sort my pictures using file name, but I can't create a filter searching for the file name.
Am I missing something?

Thank you!
It didn't occur to me that a file name could be a metadata, but there you go...

  • How can i filter the file names in SaveDialog box?

    Hi all,
    I have created a save dialog box. now i want to filter out the file listing inside the save dialog window. ie, i want to know how can i make entries in the "save as type" field so that it should be allowable for a user to select only html and pdf files.
    It will be very helpful if there is a code sample of the same.
    Thanx in advance,
    Abhi...

    If you used the JFileChooser to create your dialog box, then the API documentation has an example of exactly that. (Okay, it uses different file extensions.)
    If you wrote your own file save dialog box from scratch, then mimic what JFileChooser does.

  • Filter to print file names on your clips?

    I'm looking for a way to print the file name of a clip on the clip - similar to the Timecode filter in AfterEffects. Any suggestions? I could use After Effects as well if anyone knows of a suitable filter for that, either...

    Sorry Nicholas, I mixed that one up.
    I too am interested, and we aren't the only ones...
    Check this thread:
    http://www.lafcpug.org/phorum/read.php?1,168292,168292#msg-168292
    It sounds as though it's possible and there are Smart People who do it using XML and some text editing wizardry.
    I for one would love to see a plugin for this.

  • Applescript to filter file names

    Hi,
    Does anyone know how to create a smart folder that can send files to other folders based upon the files name ?
    EG: a folder on a shared drive (Server), people transfer a file to it named "01_myfiles" and "02_myfiles" etc. when they hit the folder "01" is sent to one folder "02" to a different folder, only the 01 or 02 should be taken in account the file name after this prefix could be anything?
    thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

  • Importing text file (with file names) into Automator.. is it possible?

    Hello all,
    I have been working with Windows Batch files for my line of work. I have a couple of file names in a text file (a column), which I want to copy from one folder of one hdd to another folder on a different hdd. I have been trying to do this kind of work with a Mac. I already know how you copy and rename files in automator (which isn't difficult, of course) but you have to 'select' the files in the finder first (with get specified items).
    But the only way i see that you can specify items is by selecting them... is there a way to import a text file with all the file names instead of selecting all the file names manually?
    or is there an AppleScript alternative which I can use to import the text file (or just copy into applescript) and run before the query's of copying and renaming the files? I am kind of new to Apple programming.
    The text file looks like this:
    image1.jpg
    image2.jpg
    etc..
    so there has to be a command to: 'goto' a specific folder as well.
    Thanks in advance!

    You can import text files, but if they are just names you will need an additional action to add the source folder path. A *Run AppleScript* action can be used, for example:
    Tested workflow:
    1) *Ask for Finder Items* {Type: files } -- choose the text file containing the names
    2) *Combine Text Files* -- this gets the text file contents
    3) *Filter Paragraphs* { return paragraphs that are not empty } -- skip blank lines
    4) *Run AppleScript* -- copy and paste the following script:
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    font-weight: normal;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 680; height: 340px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFEE80;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into an Automator 'Run AppleScript' action">
    on run {input, parameters} -- add folder path
    add the specified folder path to a list of file names
    input: a list of text items (the file names)
    output: a list of file paths (aliases)
    set output to {}
    set SkippedItems to {} -- this will be a list of skipped items (errors)
    set SourceFolder to (choose folder with prompt "Choose the folder containing the file names") as text -- this is the folder containing the names
    repeat with AnItem in the input -- step through each name in the input
    try
    set AnItem to SourceFolder & AnItem -- add the prefix
    set the end of the output to (AnItem as alias) -- test
    on error number ErrorNumber -- oops
    set ErrorNumber to ("  (" & ErrorNumber as text) & ")" -- add the specific error number
    set the end of SkippedItems to (AnItem as text) & ErrorNumber
    end try
    end repeat
    ShowSkippedAlert for SkippedItems
    return the output -- pass the result(s) to the next action
    end run
    to ShowSkippedAlert for SkippedItems
    show an alert dialog for any items skipped, with the option to cancel the workflow
    parameters - SkippedItems [list]: the items skipped
    returns nothing
    if SkippedItems is not {} then

  • How to user PowerShell -replace to remove the dreaded em dash from a file name?

    I have a bunch of .msg files in a directory and want to zip them up (to send them to our spam filtering company), but I keep getting errors on file names that contain the em dash (—).  I believe it's (char)0x2014.
    [edited]... the correct syntax is [char]0x2014.
    I wish to eliminate the em dash in the file name but I can't seem to find anything on the web about replacing em dashes.  When I paste '—', PowerShell replaces it with a '-'.
    I found this neat function that does a great job replacing multiple characters within a string.
    http://powershell.com/cs/blogs/tobias/archive/2011/04/28/multiple-text-replacement-challenge.aspx
    I am using the below code for my string replacement.
    Thank you for your help.
    function Replace-Text {
    param(
    [Parameter(Mandatory=$true)]
    $text,
    $replacementlist = "(-,,',,%,,$,,@,,#,,&,,’,"
    Invoke-Expression ('$text' + -join $(
    foreach($e in $replacementlist.Split(',')) {
    '.Replace("{0}","{1}")' -f $e, $(
    [void]$foreach.MoveNext()
    $foreach.Current)
    $path = '<path>'
    Get-ChildItem -Path $path | Rename-Item -NewName {(Replace-Text $_.Name).trim()}

    Here is a simple filter that will strip out all nonprintable chanracters.
    $newname=$file.Name -replace '[^a-zA-Z\.]'
    I just tested it on Win 7 which supports has a Unicode filesystem and it successfullstrips the bad characters.
    We also need to do this on files uploaded to SharePoint and OneDrive.
    The ~ and other similar characters are not allowed in may systems.  You should keep a translation log and tag all renamed files with some obvious tag.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Identifying text file names and importing on single Excel sheet

    Hey!
    Does anybody can help me with Excel VBA macro code in order to import data from text files into single Excel spread sheet? I want to create User Form where user can select start and end date of interest and macro code will import
    bunch of text files depending on user demands...
    My text files are named: 20130619004948DataLog.txt (meaning: yyyy mm dd hh mm ss). Text file contains recordings for each 15 seconds... It would be great to omit time tail (meaning that user can only specify date). Text files for one day of interest (I have
    text files covering whole year):
    20130619004948DataLog.txt
    20130619014948DataLog.txt

    - Make a new Excel file
    - Open the VBA editor
    - Add a Userform
    - Place 2 text boxes and 1 command button on that form
    - Paste all code below into the code module of the form
    - Download this file:

    - In the VBA editor press CTRL-M and import that file
    - Save the Excel file in the directory that contain your text files
    - Run the form
    You can format the columns of the sheet as you like, e.g. column E:H should be a number with 5 decimal places. The top row can contain some headings. My code did not affect the formatting or the headings.

  • How to set selected file in FileChooser showSaveDialog to default file name

    Hi,
    How do I set selected file in JavaFX 2.0 FileChooser showSaveDialog, so I can prompt the user with a suggested default file name?
    I am converting a Java Swing application I wrote a few years ago to JavaFX 2.0.
    In the Swing application, I use setSelectedFile() as follows:
    JFileChooser jFileChooser = new JFileChooser();
    jFileChooser.setSelectedFile(new File(backupfile));
    jFileChooser.setCurrentDirectory(new File(outputDirectory));
    FileFilter filter = new FileNameExtensionFilter("Comma Delimited (*.csv)", "csv");
    jFileChooser.addChoosableFileFilter(filter);
    jFileChooser.setFileFilter(filter);
    filter = new FileNameExtensionFilter("XML Document (*.xml)", "xml");
    jFileChooser.addChoosableFileFilter(filter);
    jFileChooser.setAcceptAllFileFilterUsed(false);
    jFileChooser.setDialogTitle("Export File");
    int returnVal = jFileChooser.showDialog(jFrame, "Export");
    This would show a file chooser with the file name text field pre-populated with a default backup file name.
    I can't find an equivalent in JavaFX.
    Also, in the Swing application, I was able to determine which extension filter was selected at run time using getFileFilter().getDescription() as follows:
    String extension = jFileChooser.getFileFilter().getDescription();
    if (extension.equals("XML Document (*.xml)")) { ...
    I can't find an equivalent in JavaFX.
    Thanks,
    Barry

    You can use the open sequence file method on the application manager (then you only need to wire the file path)

  • File name under UNIX

    Hi,
    I have this problem: a part of my application is reading a file name. Sometimes the file name contains special characters: , .... Everything works fine when I'm testing on Windows. When I'm testing under UNIX I get '?' insteed of . I can see that la file has a corect name on the HDD.
    Why my application displays different results on Windows and UNIX?
    Ex:
    File f = new File("bla/bla1/bla2");
    Filter filter = new Filter(".txt");
    String[] files = f.list(filter);
    The files array contains diferennts strings on Windos comparing to UNIX.

    Que? File names are allowed to contain certain characters in windows, and another set of characters in unix.

  • Passing Dynamic File Name to ODI nterface for processing to another system

    Hi,
    I need help regarding passing a Dynamically Name changing fixed length Flat File in ODI Interface. This interface is built for taking the Flat File as Input and process it to SQL Server by applying Data Mapping and transformations... The input Flat File Name is sequence generated for eg: OEORD1123.txt and next file will be OEORD1124.txt and it sits in Oracle Conc tier. How to pass the latest file name to ODI interface for processing
    Regards,
    Anil..

    Hi Guys...
    I would like to suggest a way.
    a) create a single interface with dynamic resouce name (a ODI variable) with a filter to the month column like:
    month_column = '#vCountMonth'
    b) in the refresh tab of a first variable (I named "vMonth"), use the following query: (varialbe should be alphanumeric, "not persistent")
    select to_char(to_date('#vCountMonth','MM'),'month') from dual
    c) create one more ODI variable (I named "vCountMonth"), alphanumeric, not persistent and at its refresh tab write:
    select lpad(to_char(#vCountMonth + 1), 2, '0') from dual
    d) now just create a package, drag and drop the objects in the following order:
    d.1) vCountMonth in set mode and set = 0 (zero)
    d.2) vCountMonth in refresh mode
    d.3) vMonth in refresh mode
    d.4) the interface
    d.5) vCountMonth in evaluate mode, evaluating "= 12"
    ==> if NO (KO, red line) link the KO line to d.2 step
    ==> a OK line is not necessary unless you have others steps after finish the evaluating
    Make any sense? That is a single loop to have the interface developed only one time.

  • Custom metadata fields used in file name?

    Hi,
    Is it possible to add to the list of meta data fields that are used as tokens for file names?
    I've been using Rob Cole's excellent custom meta data in the library module and now I want to use these fields to name the file during export...
    While at it, is it possible to add the same custom meta data fields to the info view overlay in develop mode?
    Cheers,
    Bonny

    1.  Its possible an export filter (post-process action) could be defined that supports the custom metadata for export filenaming (Lightroom itself does not have any other hooks I'm aware of) - dunno if anyone's done that, yet.
    2.  I think not (see PM).

  • Easy -- default file name in JFileChooser

    Hello,
    I have a JFileChooser dialog ready and working. I select the directory, then input the file name and press Save.
    The enhancement I would like to add to the dialog would be displaying a default name already in the FileName field once the dialog is opened. For instance "REPORT_ONE_" and then I would only add some text to the end of the default name. This would save me from typing the "REPORT_ONE_" all the time as this would already be displayed in the filename field.
    I could add the "REPORT_ONE_" to the filename later, when saving the report. However appending anything to the filename "behind the scenes" is not acceptable by the customer. They need to see the filename, not guess it.
    Looking forward to your help, fellow forum users.
    Thank you!
    aulo

    Thank you, 5p given.
    However this is what I execute and in my file chooser dialog the filename field is still blank.
      ExampleFileFilter filter = new ExampleFileFilter();
        filter.addExtension("html");
        filter.addExtension("csv");
      JFileChooser chooser = new JFileChooser(new File("REPORT_ONE_"));
        chooser.setDialogTitle( "Save Report" );
        chooser.setFileSelectionMode(chooser.FILES_AND_DIRECTORIES);
        chooser.setFileFilter(filter);
        int returnVal = chooser.showSaveDialog(this);
        ...It is in try-catch, no errors are returned.
