Filter page items by property in Javascript

What is the Javascript equivalent to this AppleScript?
set xxx to every page item whose note = "John"
After looking at some of the tutorials, I pieced this together. Is there a better way of doing this? With 30,000 path items it took over a minute to execute...
docRef = app.activeDocument;
var pathLength = docRef.pathItems.length;
docRef.pathItems[0].note;
var hitList = []
for (i = 0; i<pathLength; i++)
if (docRef.pathItems[i].note= "John")
hitList.push(i)
alert(hitList.length)

So like this?
docRef = app.activeDocument;
var pathLength = docRef.pathItems.length;
docRef.pathItems[0].note;
var myCount = 0
for (i = 0; i<pathLength; i++)
if (docRef.pathItems[i].note== "JD")
myCount = myCount + 1
alert(myCount)

  • Page item name property in UI

    Does anyone know if the name property of a page item appear anywhere in the user interface in Illustratpr CS6?
    I thought it would be the name you assign to it in the Layers palette, but it does not appear to be.

    You have an opened document with page items?
    try this:
    app.activeDocument.layers[0].pageItems[0].name = "my Item #1";
    app.activeDocument.layers[0].pageItems[0].selected = true;
    app.redraw();
    alert(app.activeDocument.layers[0].pageItems[0].name);

  • Trouble with using javascript $s function to populate a page item

    Hello Oracle APEX Community,
    I'm working on a drilldown dashboard page and have been encountering a problem when i try to populate a Text Page Item (hidden or not) using the javascript built in $s function.
    The function works great when the data is a number such as dept_id (even if the field type is varchar). However, trying to pass anything which is a text the process fails, except when a value is hard-coded as a parameter for the function. So for example, I have a chart with counts of constituents by state. I would like to populate (filter) a table based on when you click on a bar for a state without having to submit the page. I'm using dynamic actions and a built in javascript function in the SQL for the chart to accomplish this; but again, it works great when I use a varchar field like the FIPS code (i.e. the FIPS for Texas is '48'), but when I try to populate the page item using the state abbreviation 'TX' (again varchar) it fails.
    Here's an example of code that works:
    SELECT 'javascript:$s("P1_DEPTNO",'||d.deptno||')' LINK,
    d.dname LABEL,
    sum(e.SAL) sal
    FROM emp e, dept d
    where e.deptno = d.deptno
    group by 'javascript:$s("P1_DEPTNO",'||d.deptno||')', d.dname And here's an example of code that does not work:
    SELECT 'javascript:$s("P1_DEPTNO",'||d.loc||')' LINK,
    d.dname LABEL,
    sum(e.SAL) sal
    FROM emp e, dept d
    where e.deptno = d.deptno
    group by 'javascript:$s("P1_DEPTNO",'||d.loc||')', d.dname However, when I hard code a text value the script works:
    SELECT 'javascript:$s("P1_DEPTNO","BOSTON")' LINK,
    d.dname LABEL,
    sum(e.SAL) sal
    FROM emp e, dept d
    where e.deptno = d.deptno
    group by 'javascript:$s("P1_DEPTNO","BOSTON")', d.dname
    ORDER BY d.dname I'm encountering this problem on several versions of APEX: (4.0.2.00.07-local installation) and (4.1.0.00.28-apex.oracle.com)
    Does anybody know of this problem and how to solve it? I've looked for settings on the page item itself, and can't figure it out.
    I've re-written my sql to utilize the value fields of my tables instead but I have some objects on the page which are really going to depend on the character based data instead.
    Thanks,
    Wayne

    In your javascript you are generating, surround your value with double-quotes and it'll should then always work with both numbers and strings (your strings are probably being interpreted as variable names and they don't exist at runtime, hence erroring out).
    Example:
    SELECT 'javascript:$s("P1_DEPTNO","'||d.loc||'")' LINK,Edited by: gti_matt on Aug 16, 2011 9:50 AM

  • Javascript help - Hide/Show a page item

    Environment:
    APEX 3.1.00.09 running on AIX 5.3
    Sample application on apex.oracle.com:
    Workspace: GALWAY
    UserID: gwicke
    Password: gwicke
    To see where my issues are:
    1- Start on page 3
    2- In the Agency drop down select 'J & B Marketing'
    3- In the Contract drop down select the only contract that appears
    4- Click on 'Edit Existing Contract'
    5- Note the page item 'LY Closings' has the value 261
    6- Click on the link (really a tab in my theme) at the top labeled 'Cost Detail'
    7- The 'Estimate Justification' is the page item to be displayed/hidden as noted below.
    8- The 'Homes Per Year' under the 'YEAR1' column is the user input page item
    9- The P2_BUILDER_CLOSINGS (value 261 noted above) is the page item to be used in the comparison
    I need to do a couple of things with a potentially hidden page item:
    1- Every time the page loads I need to check to see if the page item (P8_ESTIMATE_JUSTIFICATION) is not null and if it is indeed not null, make it displayed.
    2- When the user enters a value in another page item (P8_HOMES_PER_YEAR1), call a function to see if that value is more than 120% of another page item (P2_BUILDER_CLOSINGS) and if so make the above page item displayed (P8_ESTIMATE_JUSTIFICATION).
    I have the javascript function created (showHideEstimateJustification) and in the HTML Header of the page. The function is being called currently with an onChange check on the page item entered by the user as noted above (P8_HOMES_PER_YEAR1).
    Issues:
    1- I need to force a SUBMIT after the user enters the value for P8_HOMES_PER_YEAR1 so it is available in session state and hence to the javascript function (other ideas welcome!)
    2- I am currently using the x.style.display = 'inline' versus 'none' to hide/show the page item, where x is derived from var x = document.getElementById(P8_ESTIMATE_JUSTIFICATION) Is there a better way????
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    -gary (a.k.a. Javascript newbie)

    Hi,
    Only your messages use the session state. The code would use the entered value, but you would need to change:
    var homes = parseInt(document.getElementById('P8_HOMES_PER_YEAR1'));to
    var homes = parseInt(document.getElementById('P8_HOMES_PER_YEAR1').value);so that "homes" becomes the numeric version of the value of the item
    Normally, for the label, you would just enter an ID="xxx" into the HTML Table Cell Attributes for the label which you can then use in your javascript. For some reason this doesn't seem to want to work in this page.
    What you could do is find all the labels and then check which is the right one before showing/hiding it. Something along the lines of:
    var xx = document.getElementsByTagName("LABEL");
    var zz;
    var label;
    for (zz = 0; zz < xx.length; zz++)
    if (xx[zz].htmlFor == 'P8_ESTIMATE_JUSTIFICTION")
      label = xx[zz];
    xx[zz].style.display = 'none';
    {code}
    Andy

  • Javascript reading a protected / hidden page item / application item

    Hi
    I'm trying to use javascript to validate / calculate the value of a page item.
    For this I need to access an item that is it protected (not simply a text field which is editable) - or one which is currently hidden.
    Is it possible for javascript to read the value of an application item or a page item that is hidden or a page item that is protected (not editable)?
    Thanks in advance.
    Mike

    Mike, when you change the item type you are changing the html element type
    from
    <input type="text" id="P1_ONE" value="This is P1_ONE item type value" />
    to something like
    <td>This is P1_ONE item type value</td>
    for the text type you would use .value so $('P1_ONE').value or document.getElementById('P1_ONE'). value but for the "display as text" would be $('P1_ONE').innerHTML or document.getElementById('P1_ONE').innerHTML.
    been a while since i use APEX js systax as I've been using jquery but the second example of each type will work.

  • Want a javascript redirect URL using an already defined page item?

    Hello,
    i have a button where i configure a Redirect to URL option... and use : javascript:html_PopUp('http://yahoo.com', '_newwindow');
    That is pretty clear, and it works. I also have a defined page item which does contain a valid URL
    For example :P4_OFFICE_WEB_PAGE_LINK_V:='http://google.com'
    I want the pop up to use a stored value, not the hardcoded one at the top... I have tried all of these, but none seem to work :
    javascript:html_PopUp('P4_OFFICE_WEB_PAGE_LINK_V', '_newwindow');
    javascript:html_PopUp(':P4_OFFICE_WEB_PAGE_LINK_V', '_newwindow');
    javascript:html_PopUp(APEX_UTIL.GET_SESSION_STATE('P4_OFFICE_WEB_PAGE_LINK_V'), '_newwindow');
    What should i use?
    Thanks.

  • Access page item from Javascript

    I have searched the forum, and based on my findings this is what I've done so far:
    I have a page item where the Google Map key is stored. I want to access it from Javascript so that I can call the Google map with the key. (Note: The key can't be hardcoded as it will be pulled from DB according to the environment/url the app is running on. e.g. - dev, test, production.)
    Here's a javascript code block:
    <script>
       var google_key = $x('P1_GOOGLE_KEY').value;
       var l_url = "http://maps.google.com/maps?file=api&amp;v=2&amp;key=" +
                   google_key +
                   "&sensor=false";
    </script>I have tried, $v('P1_GOOGLE_KEY') , $x('P1_GOOGLE_KEY') , &P1_GOOGLE_KEY. and none of them work.
    How do I access a page item from Javascript?
    Thx!
    Marc

    Marc,
    I am going to take a shot in the dark, but are you referencing this item outside of a function in your head tag? So basically it tries to reference the item on load? If so this is not going to work because the item does not exist yet. If you are using jQuery change your code to look like:
    $(document).ready(function(){
       var google_key = $x('P1_GOOGLE_KEY').value;
       var l_url = "http://maps.google.com/maps?file=api&amp;v=2&amp;key=" +
                   google_key +
                   "&sensor=false";
    });This will tell the javascript to fire after everything has fully loaded. If you are not using jQuery then you can use a little javascript snippet from here to add a ready event to your page. or you can copy paste this into a script tag.
    (function () {
      var ie = !!(window.attachEvent && !window.opera);
      var wk = /webkit\/(\d+)/i.test(navigator.userAgent) && (RegExp.$1 < 525);
      var fn = [];
      var run = function () { for (var i = 0; i < fn.length; i++) fn(); };
    var d = document;
    d.ready = function (f) {
    if (!ie && !wk && d.addEventListener)
    return d.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', f, false);
    if (fn.push(f) > 1) return;
    if (ie)
    (function () {
    try { d.documentElement.doScroll('left'); run(); }
    catch (err) { setTimeout(arguments.callee, 0); }
    else if (wk)
    var t = setInterval(function () {
    if (/^(loaded|complete)$/.test(d.readyState))
    clearInterval(t), run();
    }, 0);
    document.ready(function (){
    var google_key = $x('P1_GOOGLE_KEY').value;
    var l_url = "http://maps.google.com/maps?file=api&amp;v=2&amp;key=" +
    google_key +
    "&sensor=false";

  • Example of setting page item using javascript

    Does anyone have an example of setting the value of a page item (hidden) using javascript? I have seen the following in the Forum but I am having trouble implementing it. If someone could show an example of a region it is called from, and the javascript (and where it is placed), that would be great.
    I have tried something similar to this without luck so far:
    function setValue(){
    $x('P1_FIELD').value = 'Oracle';
    Thanks!
    John

    Hi VS,
    you should really use a "Set Value" dynamic action for that, that's much more transparent than using the onclick definition in the button attributes.

  • Page item validation

    I created a page in APEX Express 4.2.3.00.08.  On the page there are two items: a text field named P55_KEY_ID and an LOV named P55_REASON with the values LOST, BROKEN, OTHER.  I created a dynamic action that enables P55_REASON when P55_KEY_ID changes. Our business rule is if P55_KEY_ID has been changed then P55_REASON must have a value, i.e. not null.  Can I define a validation on P55_REASON  with a condition to test the disabled property of the page item with javascript, if it is disabled then return false otherwise true.  Where would I place the following javascript?
    IF $x(‘P55_REASON’).disabled then
      Return  false;
    Else
    Return true;
    End if;

    What is the validation? What version are you in?
    There are some item validations that execute automatically based on settings like 'Required'.
    Date pickers has other attributes that can declaratively validate range.

  • Submit page item using AJAX

    Hi All,
    Thanks for any help in advance.
    I am trying to submit an item into the session by using AJAX iin version 4.1
    I have a application process which is an on demand: run this application process when requested by a page process.
    begin
      :P4_FISCAL_YEAR2 := :AJAX_4_FISCAL_YEAR2;
    end;then in the item :P4_FISCAL_YEAR2 have the html form element attributes set to:
    (also the page item is set to None(Default) on page action when value changed.
    onchange="selectChanged6(this)"and a page process
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function selectChanged6(filter)
    var get = new htmldb_Get(null,$v('pFlowId'), 'APPLICATION_PROCESS=SET_4_FISCAL_YEAR2',0);
    get.add('AJAX_4_FISCAL_YEAR2', filter.value);
    var ret = get.get();
    </script>The item doesnt seem to be submitting into the session and I cant figure out why, Thanks

    Marie,
    I think I have acomplished what you are looking for but if your goal is quick response time then this can fluctuate since there is 1 ajax call made to set your item value and another ajax call for every chart you want to refresh.
    This solution assumes the following:
    1. all reports are in the same language and in english.
    2. all reports are flash charts.
    here is a demo: http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=43401:23:0
    Go into your chart template and add the class refreshable_chart
    <div class="rounded-corner-region refreshable_chart" id="#REGION_STATIC_ID#" #REGION_ATTRIBUTES#>
    ...Create the following dynamic action on your chart page:
    Name: refresh_chart
    Event: Change
    Selection Type: Item(s)
    Item(s): P4_FISCAL_YEAR2
    True actions:
    Sequence: 10
    Action: execute pl/sql code
    Code:
    NULL;
    {code}
    Page Items to Submit: P4_FISCAL_YEAR2
    Sequence: 20
    Action: Execute JavaScript code
    Affected Elements:
    -- Type: jQuery Selector
    -- jQuery Selector: .refreshable_chart
    Code:
    {code:javascript}
    this.affectedElements.each(function(){
      apex_RefreshFlashChart(&APP_PAGE_ID., this.id.substr(1), 'en');
    {code}

  • Page Item / Source / Format Mask  -  Table Column Numeric

    Form page to maintain a table row, the item is for a numeric column. Selected/Entered the format mask "999G999G999G999G990D00" for the Page Item / Source. I was under the impression that this would result in the page item being formatted with the mask when navigating out of the item. I can enter non-numeric values and navigate out with no error being raised/reported ... is this expected behaviour?
    Thanks

    APEX was touted at being a MS Access application killer and a RAD tool. If the user is presented with having to understand the complexities of session state variables, page item variables, etc. then a lot of developers/users will be switched off. APEX was supposed to appeal to the masses as the pipes and plumbing coding behind having a web application front end on an Oracle database backend was being hidden. The converse seems to apply when implementing functionality like a format mask being applied both on entry and display of several page items. So I may be able to implement the required format validation using Javascript but if I have to apply this functionality to more than one page item in now way does APEX lend itself to RAD, e.g. In Oracle Forms you could select multiple Block/Items and then change a property to apply to all the selected items.

  • Set page item from a stored procedure

    Dear reader
    We would like to have a stored procedure to run every 10 minutes. When the procedure starts, the user has to be warned that the update process is running.
    When the procedure is finished, the user should receive a message that the update process is finished.
    What I had in mind was to set a Page 0 item 'P0_REFRESH' and set his value depending on the status of the update. Then add a dynamic action with a change event. So everytime the value of this page item changes, the user will receive a correct message.
    Does anyone know if it is possible to set a page item from a stored procedure?
    Kind regards

    I found a solution by querying the user_jobs table. In Apex, I created two page 0 items that hold the current status of the job (online, offline) and the old value of the job.
    Online of offline in the current status item is determined by a decode on "this_sec".
    The enext step was to include a html region in P0 that contains some javascript. This javascript will display a message when the values of the new status is different from the old status ;)
    Many thanks for bringing up the ideas.

  • Problem with dynamic change a page item value

    Hi,
    I'm trying to dynamically calculated the value of an item based on a simple formula that involves the multiplication of two elements from the same page.
    To do this, create dynamic action as follows:
    Event: Change
    Selection Type: Item(s)
    Item(s): P19_DURATION
    Action: Set value
    Fire on page load: TRUE
    Set Type: SQL Statement
    SQL Statement: SELECT :P19_DURATION * :P19_RATE FROM DUAL
    Page items to submit: P19_DURATION
    Selection Type: Item(s)
    Item(s): P19_AMOUNT
    When altering the P19_DURATION get no change in P19_AMOUNT
    Since my knowledge of javascript is almost zero, I'm trying to do this with pl / sql or sql. Try the dynamic action with a function or a PL / SQL statement and nothing works.
    Have to use javascript for this?
    Searching the forum I think it's something simple, but I did not find an example similar to what I need.
    Regards

    Event: Change
    Selection Type: Item(s)
    Item(s): P19_DURATION
    Action: Set value
    Fire on page load: TRUE
    Set Type: javascript
    javascript Code:
    amount = $v('P19_DURATION') *  $v('P19_RATE');
    $s('P19_AMOUNT',amount);

  • SkillBuilders Modal 2.0 plugin with a page-item button - pass parameters

    Hi all.
    I have an employee table, which is connected with a 1:N relationship to two tables: Emp_Tech_Fields and Emp_Kids.
    I've created a form to update / insert employee data, and I want to add two modal pages: one for kids and one for tech_fields. I think this will be the most usable way for this form.
    I've created two page-item buttons on that form, which open the respective modal pages successfully, but I can't dynamically pass them the EMP_ID in order to filter the data in them.
    Iv'e uploaded an example to http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=64921:1:6401028834215::::: guest / gu12est3
    Document Types is a report with a link-column which opens a modal page with data filtering, as it should.
    Employees (click an edit link) has two buttons: Kids, which open the modal form, but does not filter, and Tech Fields, which is filtered hard-coded with EMP_ID = 1 (see in the dynamic action definition).
    As far as I understand, this should be something quite easy and day-to-day, so I don't know why I did not find a way to do this. What am I missing?
    Any help will be greatly appreciated,
    Dovi.

    Hi Dovi,
    I had a look at your application and can see the link your using for the kids and tech fields modal isn't passing the session ID which is why it is asking you to log in again.
    Below is an example URL for your issue, it isn't tested though.
    f?p=&APP_ID.:20:&APP_SESSION.:::19:P20_EMP_ID:&P19_EMP_ID.:: You will need to change the page numbers of the pages and items to match the page numbers of yours. This is using the statically defined url inside the plugin itself, I have also only done this in an earlier version of plugin but believe the functionality is very similar.
    Hope this helps.

  • Creating page items from pl/sql procedure and using them on a page

    I have a page containing 2 select lists (P21_DEPARTMENTS and P21_DATE). Originally I added them as items that were "select list with submits". The problem is that based on the clearance level of the currently logged on user I only wanted the P21_DEPARTMENTS to be a select list if the user was an administrator. If however the user is not an admin then I want the page to have a hidden form field called P21_DEPARTMENTS that stores the user's department and has a label item that has the department name.
    There is also a report region that generates a table based on the department selected from the select list (if the user is an admin) or the value stored in the hidden form field if the user is not.
    My problem is that I cannot have both those items on the same page and use the HTML built-in authentication to determine which item should be rendered because I need to use the same ID for both items so that the stored procedure in my report region doesn't break. HTML does not permit items to share the same ID.
    I tried to circumvent the problem by creating a stored procedure that performs all of the item rendering in the procedure and uses "htp.p()" to output all of my HTML code. This solution would allow me to pass a parameter into the procedure informing me as to whether or not the user is an administrator. If the user is an administrator the procedure would use a conditional statement and render a select list. If not, the hidden form field and label option would be used instead.
    I finally got the stored procedure working perfectly. Now I am encountering the most bizarre thing. Since the "select list with submit" was not working (I used the same code that gets generated when I created other items using htmlDB's GUI) I decided to use a JavaScript function instead that gets triggered by the onChange event. I send along the value that is currently selected in the select list and in the function I set:
    location.href='http://www.myoraclesite.com/pls/htmldb/f?p=111:21:729740000000000000::NO::P21_DEPARTMENTS:1';
    In theory this should work. The problem is that it doesn't. The page reloads and the P21_DEPARTMENTS select list is not pre-selected.
    The only thing I can think of is that when htmlDB generates page items that you've created with it's own admin tool it assigns some internal guid or something as opposed to when someone tries to generate dynamic page items of their own from a pl/sql procedure it's like the application doesn't even know they exist.
    Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
    My only other solution would be to create a totally separate page (one for admin and another for non-admin). I would really like to avoid this.
    Thanks in advance.

    I would love to be able to generate my menus and
    various other items in my htmlDB applications in much
    the same way I can using ASP, PHP and Cold Fusion.
    Users should have the ability to write server-side
    code wherever they feel like it. The way htmlDB works
    right now I spend more time trying to figure out how
    to create simple effects and generate simple
    interfaces when I need to be building a portal. Ami - it's important to understand that HTML DB is not like other languages. Thus, trying to force concepts which are common in other languages into HTML DB will often result in more work.
    It's definitely worth the time to go over the HTML DB 2-day Developer, which can be found here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/htmldb/pdf/B14377_01.pdf
    I can build a portal using Classic ASP, C#, PHP or Cold
    Fusion in like 1/10 of the time that it takes me to
    build one using htmlDB. I understand that this is not
    meant for the hard-core programmer but no web
    programming application in today's day and age should
    prevent experts from getting under the hood.And I can build a Portal in HTML DB in 1/10 the time it will take me to do it in any other language. It's like anything else - proficiency comes with practice and work.
    As for getting under the hood, there is plenty of places you can do that with HTML DB. Keep in mind that HTML DB itself is an HTML DB application, so the limits on what you can build with HTML DB are virtually limitless.
    Sorry for the vent there. After spending the last 2
    days trying to figure out how to implement such a
    straightforward thing and now being informed that it
    can't be done kind of bugged me.I understand your frustration, as I've been there before. My rule for beginners is that if you are writing more than a line or two of code in the first week, you're doing something wrong. Stop, take a break, and then use the ample resources (including searching this forum) to help solve your problem. There are plenty of resources available for you to learn about HTML DB on the HTML DB home page: http://otn.oracle.com/htmldb
    Good luck,
    - Scott -
