Filtering mac on switch

Hi everyone,
i have a two switches for two seperate depts,i would like to configure mac address filtering on the switch so that users cannot communicate with each other.can someone help with configuration guide.

Hi,
Not sure but i know two ways in which this can be done.
1] access-list ranges 700-799 and 1100-1199 are reserved for MAC addresses.
it would go something like;
access-list 701 deny abcd.abcd.abcd 0000.0000.0000
access-list 701 permit 0000.0000.0000 ffff.ffff.ffff
2] Port security.
Switch)# config t
Switch(config)# int fa0/18
Switch(config-if)# switchport port-security ?
aging Port-security aging commands
mac-address Secure mac address
maximum Max secure addresses
violation Security violation mode
Switch(config-if)# switchport port-security
Switch(config-if)#^Z

  • Does anyone know when the Mac Pro switched from ATA to SATA DVD Drives

Does anyone know when the Mac Pro switched from ATA to SATA DVD Drives ?
I tried to find this answer online but failed.

Appears the Mac Pro (Early 2008) is the last model to suggest Ultra ATA/100 optical.
And with an optional card, use Serial Attached SCSI via Mac Pro Raid.
This kind of information gets sketchy in that the hard drive bus and other parts are SATA
and only this (and earlier) model Mac Pro has optical drive interface w/ Ultra ATA/100. The
logic board on the early 2008 appears to have two Serial ATA ports, 3.0GBPS; so to check
these, you may need to look into specification in iFixit.com repair guides, any takeapart
guides, and note specifications in everymac.com and those from mactracker.ca.
The MacPro after Early 2008 model build series (Early 2009) appears to sport an optical
drive with 18x speed, compared to Early 2008 & before, whose drives indicate 16x spec.
Other changes may be indicated by certain parts and differences; processors, graphic
support, and those kinds of things. 2008 shows dual-core, afterward, quad-core.
So on what little I found, that would appear to be the divide or when optical drive spec
on the logic board changed from Ultra ATA/100 to SATA versions. But double check.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Aironet 600 with Mac Filtering and a switch..

How does the Aironet 600 handle Mac Filtering if I were to connect a switch to port 4 on the back ("Secured" network port). Does it authenticate each MAC or does it do somthing similar to how 802.1x with multi-host works, the first mac authenticates and then the port's wide open? My use-case here is a printer at a remote home-office. The printer doesn't have a supplicant in it so I need to use mac filtering. Thanks.

MAC authentication is all I use for my OutStationed workers.  No wifi, just the rlan.  Since the rlan is configured for DHCP only, no IP gets passed until MAC auth occurs.
When Cisco packaged this up, they said 4 is enough..  IF you use an un-managed (non-cisco) switch.
I had a need for 2 workstations and 2 digiports..  SOP sys a managed switch..  oops.  the switch consumed 2 MAC's right off the top.. 1 for itself and 1 for each vlan.
After enablilng 2 rlans, and configuring a pair on different networks, we discovered that they were bridged in the 602 (or somewhere).
We ended up switching out the 602 for an ASA5505

  • Mac Mini Switch

    Hi,
I currently have a iMac G4 flat panel. I am thinking of getting the intel mac mini. I have a few questions.
    1. Can I replace OS 10.4 tiger with 10.3 panther because I have found that tiger does not suppost the internet connection I have qhich is a DSL USB PC port thats plugged into the back of my computer. Does anyone know If i can do that or if there is a way to make my DSL connection work with my mini? Thanks!
    Linda

    Linda,
I'm not quite sure what kind of internet connection you have. If I am correctly understanding what you are saying, I believe that you are using a USB cable to connect to the internet from your DSL modem? I do not believe that 10.3 will work on any Intel mini, as only 10.4 is Universal on both Power PC and Intel processors. Since the iMac has an ethernet port, I would recomend that you use an ethernet cable to connect to the interet, with that you should see increased performance. If you switched to that, you would be able to plug the ethernet cable right into the mini and access the internet. If you wanted to have more than one computer on the internet at once you should get a router, either wireless or wired. Hope this helps, MRCUR.

  • Error sound on mac when switching tab with cmd+right arrow

On Firefox 3.6.9 and OSX 10.6.4, when I switch to a tab to the right using cmd+right arrow, I get an error sound but Firefox successfully switches to the tab. The error sound is the same sound you get when you press a keyboard shortcut that doesn't exists (ex: cmd+?)
However, if I use cmd+left arrow I don't get the error sound.
How can I eliminate the error sound?

I am just finally posting a reply. Looks as though the sound card went out. I was told that I could purchase a new open and install myself. I did not do that, but rather my step-dad just decided it was time to buy a new Mac Mini.

  • Photoshop CS6, Mac OS, switching through open images with OS command no more possible

Using Photoshop CS6 (13.0.1) on a Mac Pro OSX v 10.6.8 it is no more possible to switch through open image windows with the OS related key combo "command <".
There is also no Photoshop own configurable command available, that could solve this issue.
CS5 or versions below always allowed that, and I very much miss this practical and fast switching between images, much faster then having to maneuver down through the "windows" menue.
    Anybody knows a solution?

thanks conroy, Ctrl+Tab does the trick! - Gerhard

  • Why does my mac not switch focus between applications

    All,
I have a very inconvenient problem on my mac.
Every time when I click on a link in e.g. Mail or Twitter, my Mac opens the link in Safari but does not switch focus to the Safari window with the loaded page.
    Similar behaviour in every application.
    Does anyone has an idea?
    Thanks,
    equi

    Carolyn,
thanks, but this did not solve my problem. The issue is, that Safari itself does not get the focus and I am not brought to the space where Safari has opened the page.
I tried your suggestion, turned the setting on and off and on again, but the behaviour is still the same. I assume that it has something to do with spaces itself.
Thanks for your time having responsed to my post,
    equi

  • 10.5.8 Mac Mail switch from POP to IMAP

I have Mac Mail 3.6 on a 10.5.8 and was originally set up as a POP account pop.telus.net - so now trying to change to imap.telus.net and the outgoing mail was mail.telus.net and trying to switch to smtp.telus.net.  Was on the phone for 2 hours with telus and now I can't get any emails at all and the only thing I can see that they were able to change was the outgoing server on my existing POP account to smtp.telus.net and now it is offline.  And I can't send or receive emails at all.  They want me to uninstall mac mail - but everything I search is telling me I have to have the original DVD to re-install..... PROBLEM is that everything was installed on the computer before I even got it from the apple.com   SO now what do I do?   I know I have to upgrade to 10.6.8 Snow Leopard before I can get OS X Mavericks - so wondering in what order should all this be done.

Not all email servers are equal. Some are best with POP.  There are other free accounts you can get that will work great with IMAP. Once you get to Snow Leopard you can get a free iCloud email account but contacts and calendars won't sync in Snow Leopard. Gmail might be a better option until you move to Mavericks.
You can try this to reset Mail to defaults.
    Quit Mail
Go to you User's Library and find the Mail folder.
    Name it MailXX
Next in the User's Library, go to Preferences folder.
Drag the com.apple.mail.plist file to the Desktop.
Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar.
    Open Mail
You can put the original files back if the new Mail does not work correctly.
While your computer might meet the requirements, also check your applications for Mavericks compatibility here:  http://roaringapps.com/  AppleWorks and Microsoft Office 2004 are two that do not work on Lion and higher.
How much RAM? Apple says 2GB RAM but your computer will be slooooow. Moving to Snow Leopard and sticking there might be the best option for your 2009 Mac.

  • Mac Pro switches itself off immediately after power button is pressed on

    Hi there,
I would like to share with you an ongoing problem of my Mac Pro (about on and off 11 month I think). Since its HD changed at the beginning of this year I've been having the problem of "switching itself off immediately after the power button is pressed on." I took it to Milton Keynes Apple Shop and apparently they couldn't replicate the problem I received it after they reset it's PRAM. Meanwhile I read the related posts and discussions about the problem and my assumption was as suggested in the scenarios of similar cause – Power Supply unit. I had a technical chat with ex-Solutions staff from Brighton, he also said it might have been caused by it.
I really don't know what to do because, sometimes attempting 10 or over times of pressing the button I hear the chime and literally 10 or 20 seconds later it switches itself off. And it happened this Sunday morning again, 8 times I've encountered the failure. And the most confusing thing is sometimes I leave it about an hour or two and then it just works and runs fine as it has never have happened.
By the way I left my computer on for a very long time I suspect maybe more than a month it was on sleep most of time when i am not using it. But yesterday I made the mistake of logging off and shutting it down. Now I can't turn my computer on. Highly frustrating and amazingly bizarre technical challenge.
Mind you I am fairly capable of carrying DIY operations on it. Previously I baked my graphics card as suggested in the forum – it works fine at the moment I am waiting until it completely brakes. But this power problem really really puzzles me.
Any opinions, how to solve this cause is highly appreciated.
    Many thanks!
    Specs:
    Mac Pro 8 core
    Xeon 5400 2nd Generation Early 2008
    10 GB RAM
    1 TB HD

The SMC especially on the very first 2-3 months of Early 2008.
Use to suffer from a "restart on wake from sleep" issue.
Some one told me that is not what "inrush current issue" is but that is what I (and couple others) called it.
Best to always have a workstation on 1500VA UPS.
Not share the outlet or cirucit even with anything major.
Yes it could I guess, poor phrase, but put more stress on PSU over time as a result also.
Methods to reset SMC have varied and changed over time. Thanks to web not all the revisions and older versions are kept online though to compare to.
Stories of people going on vacation etc for two weeks to come back to a "dead" Mac Pro started showing up in 2007.
If it had an actual SMC button, use that to reset.
If not, leaving it totally disconnected, and all external cables and such over-night, not for the mere 5-10 minutes.
Unplug but then press and hold power button for 8-10 seconds. And only once. And not to be done repeatedly. That was SMC Reset #3.
I know the 2007 8-core 3GHz had a different PSU than the smaller models.
    2008 high end was 8-core 3.2GHz 5400 (stock was 2.8GHz 4 or 8-core)
FBDIMMs draw between 10W up to 15W each, so possible to have 8 DIMMs drawing 120W when maxed out. And heat. I always recommend Mac Pro use fan control to boost the fans a small 400 rpm to expel heat better and keep FBDIMM temps down. Heat, and temperature fluxuations stress and weaken components.
Other than AHT and the tools that a Apple Certified center should have, not much other than to swap out parts, monitor - iStatPro or Hardware Monitor -
And because of all this, I would setup a test system so you have a freshly formatted and installed OS and take it from there, with a better chance.
    ATI 2600XT still? or upgraded?

  • Can I print from my iPhone/iPad via my Airport Express without my Mac being switched on?

When I want to print on my home system I must have my Mac running on the network.  I prefer to have that switched off in the evening as I just use the iPhone /iPad from a separate building (within the extended network) but need to print!
Airport Express is set up .... Router -erthernet -> Airport Extreme -wireless -> A.Express (Extended)  --> ethernet -> to Brother MFC-9120CN.
Is there a way to set that up without the need for a separate print server???
    Thanks

Chances are, you have already tried this and already know the answer.
But, if not....sorry, but no......since your printer is not AirPrint compatible, you must use the extra software workaround in the Mac.
A newer AirPrint printer would allow you to do what you want.

  • Windows to mac iPod switch

I've synced my ipod with my mac, but the ipod still says its formatted for windows. Do I need to re-format it with my mac, and if so how?

To add to the reply you already got, yes, it is completely possible to sync Windows (FAT32) formatted iPods on a Mac machine. You are not required to reformat to Mac format and simply updating the iPod on a Mac does not cause a reformat. If you don't have any pressing need for it to be in Mac format, you can leave it as it is.
If you also turn on the "Enable Disk Mode" option, you would be able to plug it into a Windows computer and it would show up as a drive. Useful if you need to get or transfer stuff from a Windows computer onto your Mac using the iPod as an external drive.

  • PSE 9 Mac-I switched to a smaller monitor and can't determine how to shrink the window.

I recently changed monitors from a 28" Cinema display to a 23" Cinema display (Mac) and discovered that the window is still being displayed for the larger monitor which means that the pallettes that are displayed on the right cannot be seen.
How do I get the window resized so I can use the software? I have the original cd but it's in storage and will be unavailable for a couple of months.

I've tried turning it off and it does show the pallettes so the application is useable. I get the impression that the pallettes are always there at the right side of the screen, but the application frame covers them when it's visible. However, I prefer to have the desktop obscured by the application frame ever since I got PSE 9. So it's only a temporary solution until I'm able to get my 28" monitor back.
Is there a way to delete some PSE file that is holding the size variables for the application frame so PSE will rebuild it the next time I run it? That seems to be the way Apple "fixes" things like that.

  • PC-to-Mac: iTunes Switch

    Hey,
I'm getting a MBP 17 in the next few weeks and I would like to now the best program I can use to get my iTunes Library in Mac looking exactly like in Windows. I have a lot of songs, (all organized with Lyrics, Artwork, etc so I need all the metadata transferred), movies and photos. Oh yea and Podcasts aswell. I'd prefer a free program but with my high demands I'm guessing I'll have to lirchase software and I'm fine with that
