Final Cut studio 2.0.1 sur Mavericks
I have Final cut studio 2.O.1 installed sur un iMac system OSX.5.8 and I want to install it on a MacBookPro with OS 1.9.2 (Mavericks).
Is it possible ?
It will not install directly. You will have to find a work around (plenty of them posted here on the forum.)

Will Final Cut Studio 3 work with OSX Mavericks?
Hi,
Does anyone know if Final Cut Studio 3 will work with the New OSX Mavericks when it's released this fall?
Thanks in advanceIf you have the snow leopard install disk, you can do a custom install and just install rosetta.
One person on this forum, says there are serious issues with this workflow and links to another method.
https://discussions.apple.com/message/22029476#22029476
I've done it a few times without any issues, and I haven't seen any definitive reports detailing the problems with this.
Doing a complete clean install is the much safer way to have a dependable system. Here's a user tip on OS and FCP installation
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2861
I'd also recommend creating a bootable clone of your startup drive before doing any os upgrades or application installations or upgrades. That way if things go south, you can easily return to the previous working system.

Final cut studio and mavericks
Is there a version of Final Cut Studio (I only need Finaul Cut Pto (and essential software to make it work) which will function with Mavericks?
I am too old to change again how to do things and unfortunately I need some software which only works with the latest systems.
Many of my plug in require vast ampunt of money to work with The new FinalCut, and frankly I don't like the video editing philosophy behind it. Is my opnion but it plays a role in my request,
I hope someone will give me some hints. Else I need to switch from one Disk in my Mac Pro with Snow Leopard to the other with Mavericks ... and is a great waste of time.
Thanks to everyone if there is a suggestion, and super thanks to the ones who will not suggest me why don't I learn the great new things, In that case the reply is here: I edited all my life with flatbed mechanical hardware: we had up to 7 screens to choose our takes from. I moved happily to digital, but editing is about giving tempo to the best take, and later to work on sound and effects. at 70 I learned already whatever I need to learn and I do not want to look at any manual anymore.
ThanksThere are copious amount of posts explainging this in depth in the discussion, its asked a number of times each day. So rather than add to the confusion, read the replies from the guys who are long time FCP 7 users and are running Mavericks and when you have a specific question, post back.

Final Cut Studio on Mavericks?
Hello everyone, I just bought a new MacBook Pro and have Mavericks OS 10.9.2 installed. I also have a copy of Final Cut Studio 2. I want to install Final Cut on my computer, but it gives me the error message: "You can't open the application "FinalCutStudio.mpkg" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported" I would like to install it. How can I?
Use Pacifist:
http://www.charlessoft.com/
Or following Jeremy Johnstone's instructions regarding the use of Terminal:
http://www.jeremyjohnstone.com/blog/2012-03-11-installing-final-cut-pro-studio-2 -0-on-mac-os-x-10-7-lion.html -
My old Mac drive died and bought a Air. Trying to install Final Cut but bumping into error on trying to install Studio. I have an upgrade to Pro but I have been told that I need to install Studio first. I have all the original disks.
Final Cut Studio 2 has a "bug" in the installer program that results in the "PowerPC" dialog box.
There are two alternative methods to install into Mavericks:
Use Pacifist:
http://www.charlessoft.com/
Use Jeremy Johnstone's Terminal method:
http://www.jeremyjohnstone.com/blog/2012-03-11-installing-final-cut-pro-studio-2 -0-on-mac-os-x-10-7-lion.html
Be sure to follow the August 2012 comment for the remaining FCS2 disks for this second method. -

Against my better judgement (now that Apple has turned into Microsoft 10 years ago, breaking apps with every OS update, followed by radio silence from Apple, pretending like they didn't do anything), I just upgraded from Mountain Lion to Yosemite and noticed that my Motion 4 icon is now greyed out. Thanks Apple.
I still do the majority of my work in Final Cut Pro 7, with many, many, Motion 4 projects embedded in the timeline (so that I can change them in Motion and have them seamlessly updated in my Final Cut Pro project), including an unfinished feature length documentary on gay and lesbian history from 2000 BC until 1900 AD. Should I just throw the entire film into the rubbish bin? I would presume that Motion 5.1.2 is incompatible with Final Cut 7? So what am I supposed to do now?
1 - Downgrade to Mountain Lion (or heck, why not Snow Leopard?)?
2 - Switch to Adobe Premiere?
3 - All of the above?
Thanks (for nothing, Apple).
MacBook Pro 15" with Retina Display
2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MBAfter some peacefull time my system crashed completely on Friday!
I installed all from Scratch to make sure its not some old stuff that I carried on during migration.
It's not a problem with the motion files as I deleted all of them and XML export is still crashing!
The situation is, that after installing it all I got the same quicktime translation error again and I am quite angry about how Apple handles clients who are working on projects with the recent FCP story.
Unfortunately due to the problems in exporting XML I am not even able to switch to Adobe Premier as this is the only way to import there.
After a lot of testing I am quite sure, that this issue has to do something with an Apple Update release between June 2011 and now.
Conclusion: Final Cut Studio II is not working correctly anymore as it did before June 2011!!! Apple, Please fix this issue asap.!!!! -
General Overview on How to use Final Cut Studio to create a Blu-Ray DVD
I am a new user of Final Cut Studio and need an experienced user to give my a progression guide on how to create a Blu-Ray DVD of my recent Alaska Trip. Last month I spend 8 days in Alaska visiting Denali and Juneau primarily. During that time I took about 100 short video clips (HD 1080p) and 570+ still photos with my Canon 7D. I have experimented with some pieces of the software and have created a Blu-Ray disk using Final Cut Pro and Compressor. However my goal is to create this DVD with menus that will play short clips (some narrated) and still photos(also some narration). I did a short one in DVD Studio Pro this morning but need some general guidance on what progression and programs to use to create this project. I was not able to take my video from the Studio Pro Sequence I created for my 1st DVD I had to take the original clips which were processed using Apple ProRes 422 and copy them in one at a time and then find the audio (on the voice overs) I created and also place them into DVD Studio Pro one at a time. I obviously need some guidance on the proper progression.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here's the situation...
DVD Studio Pro will not do the trick for you - it doesn't do blu-ray discs. If you want to do Blu-ray you've got to use either Final Cut Pro's "Export" command or Compressor's "Burn Blu-ray disc" template. The downside to both of these approaches is that you can't burn more than one title (or movie, etc.) using Final Cut Studio.
To do what you want to do, you need Toast (at least). Toast will auto-generate menus but will let you put more than one title per slide (so you can put multiple slideshows on the same disc).
If you want to do full-on customizing of menus and multi-level menus, for that you need Adobe's Encore.
My suggestion - Get Toast. Encore is close to $800.
Here's your progression (at least the one I use).
Edit in Final Cut Pro (ProRes 422 is fine, ProRes 422 LT would do the trick as well)
Export as QuickTime movies (original settings)
In Compressor using the H.264 for Blu-ray setting and Dolby Digital setting and create elementary streams for video (.264 file) and audio (.ac3). Make sure these files have identical names except for the extension.
Using toast, add the video file to the Toast project and it'll find the audio file.

7 Hours to Install Final Cut Studio 2??
I just installed Final Cut studio 2 on my Brand New Mac Pro and it took 7 hours... I installed it on my other Mac Pro back in May and it maybe took maybe an hour. I was just going to ask and see if this was normal or if I should be concerned. I have also put a black magic card in the machine and run into some issues with that as well.
Thanks for any thoughts you may have. Here's the trick you NEED to know.
Once you know how to do this you will never again need to waste an entire evening inserting DVD's.
1) Make disk images of all your DVD's using Disk Utility. Be sure to save them as DVD/CD Master in the Image Format dialogue box, with no compression added. Save all the disk images to an external drive if possible. Final Cut Pro users all have big external drives, but in a pinch this would work off an internal drive if you have the space.
2) Mount all of the DVD copies on your desktop, all of them at one time. This assumes you have ample memory, which if you are running Final Cut Pro you'd better have.
3) Start the install. Select your options. Then watch the magic as your Mac loads the DVD copies on your desktop until the process is done. It's that easy.
It takes a while to make the disk images, but once you have them saved to your external drive you can use them again when you get a new machine or need to reinstall for any reason. This works with Logic Studio as well as the Adobe suites- I've used this process for years. In the old days we used this process for floppies; works just as well with CD's and DVD's. Once you try it you will be dedicating an external drive to software installer disk images.
Cool, or what?

Unable to install Final Cut Studio 2.0
I had the previous version of FInal Cut Studio and just purchased Final Cut Studio 2. I chose to uninstall Final Cut Studio first by dragging all the studio programs to the Trash figuring I didn't want to chance having two versions of Final Cut Studio on my computer.
I then went in to install Final Cut Studio 2. It allowed me to install the items such as Motion Content, LiveType, Audio Content, Studio Pro, etc. The option for selecting Final Cut Pro was greyed out and said skip. I don't know why but it's like it already thought it was on there and would just upgrade it. I tried it several times but always had this same set of options.
I went on then and did an install of Final Cut Studio hoping that when it came to installing it would actually work right. Well it installed all the supporting programs but not Final Cut Pro. How can I properly install the whole suite? The FinalCut Suite 5 I'm running is misbehaving so before I install the new FinalCut Pro 6 Suite, I'd like to uninstall all of FCP Suite components and _all of their settings and customizations_. How do I make sure the new install is _absolutely clean and nothing from the previous installation effects it?_
Thanks,

Can I use Final Cut Studio 2 software on a MacBook Air?
My old MacBook Pro was stolen a couple of years ago and I replaced it with a MacBook Air OSX 10.9.5. I still have the software from Final Cut Studio 2 which I used on my MacBook Pro. I haven't got around the replacing this and was looking at the Final Cut App when it dawned on me I might be able to use the software I have. Any thoughts? I know nothing about how computers work, so a simple 'No', 'Yes' or 'Do this to make it work', would be great!
I think the gist of what the two former responders are saying is that, if you can upgrade to software that will run natively in Yosemite, then you are seemingly much better off!
I am not a film editor (although I play one on my computer! hahahaha) but I have been told by many FCS2 users that they need ongoing access to it because of clients who ask for editorial updates to older projects. My understanding is that Final Cut Pro X will NOT open the FCS2 files for processing. Hence a valid reason to be able to install and operate FCS2 on today's modern Macs.
There are three methods to install and operate FCS2 in Mavericks; I have no confirmation yet that these work in Yosemite, or if once installed in Yosemite, FCS2 will operate properly. Here is a recent post I prepared to provide this information:
Apple has created a "bug" in the attempt to install FCP6 in Lion, Mt. Lion and Mavericks, which makes it look like Rosetta is needed for a PowerPC app, the installer, so as to make it difficult for the use of FCP6 in these versions of OS X! There are three ways to install it:
1. Pacifist https://www.charlessoft.com/
2. Jeremy Johnstone's Terminal method http://www.jeremyjohnstone.com/blog/2012-03-11-installing-final-cut-pro-studio-2 -0-on-mac-os-x-10-7-lion.html
3. HawaiianHippie has discovered the best and safest possible solution to this problem:
https://discussions.apple.com/message/26309669?ac_cid=tw123456#26309669
I have now successfully done this on four computers, brand new iMacs running 10.9.4. And I've discovered an even easier way to do this! You don't need to edit the plist file, just move it into the Trash. Install proceeds normally. You can return it after you're done if you like, I don't know what (if any) possible repercussions might come from leaving it deleted.
The file, as indicated on Jeremy Johnstone's blog, is
/System/Library/CoreServices/Installer.app/Contents/Resources/PPCRequirements.pl ist
(Note that when you get to Installer.app, you will have to Control+click and select "Show Package Contents")
I have not, as yet, attempted to recreate his success. -
Can't Install Final Cut Studio V3.0
Hi,
I'm currently using a mid-2009 13-inch Macbook Pro running OS X Mavericks 10.9.1. I'm trying to install a retail verison of Final Cut Studio V3.0 that has 2 installs left, but my Macbook ejects the first installation disk about a minute after I put it in.
Does anyone know why the installation disk isn't being recognized? Here's a user tip on installing fcp
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2861
In particular, there's a link to this

which details a method in which you create disk images of all the dvd's. Works great. -
Can I install Final Cut Studio on the G5 I have?
Currently have Final Cut 5.0.4 - I just purchased Final Cut Studio 2 and am nervous about installing it on this computer. From the box specs, it appears as though this computer meets all specs except the VRAM for 16 and 32 bit rendering. (It says I need 128 MB, but my graphics card is 64 MB.)
Any advice on what problems this might cause and if I should or should not install Studio 2 on this computer?
Any input is appreciated.I think you'll be able to run Motion, as long as you stay 8 or 10 bit.
You may remember that I wrote:
So if you do all your work in regular 8 or 10-bit, it should work.
It's difficult to upgrade a computer that old, as you probably realize.
I'm not sure whether your computer is a M9454LL/A or a M9555LL/A
I checked out these spec pages:
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP80
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP67
and it seems that, if you can find this card
ATI RADEON 9600 XT with 128MB DDR SDRAM
(wihch was used on the faster G5s of that series)
it should plug in and work.
In any case, Motion needs a good graphics card.
My suggestion? Go ahead and install FCS on your G5 and get to work.
When you can afford an Intel machine, you can install it on the new machine
and go crazy! -
Can't update final cut studio 5.0.1 to 5.0.4
I am trying to upgrade my original version of final cut studio to 5.0.4. I have scoured the web for info and have tried everything to force the update. I've downloaded the 5.0.4 update file from apple. The installer window prompt tells me: THIS INSTALLER PACKAGE NEEDS TO RUN A PROGRAM TO DETERMINE IF IT CAN BE INSTALLED. DO YOU WANT TO CONTINUE. When I continue I get: FinalCutPro5.0.4Update cannot be installed on this computer. This updater is only able to update an existing Final Cut Pro 5.0, 5.0.1, 5.0.2, or 5.0.3 application. Please make sure the application is located in the Applications folder, and is called "Final Cut Pro". My hardrive apps folder has a file called 'Final Cut Pro HD' (it's 5.0.1). Then someone told me to move the original pkge file from the library to desktop to prompt the updater. Nothing seems to allow me to upgrade? I'm running OSX 10.3.9 and was running Quicktime 7.1.6 Now because Apple tech support told me to run the updater on everything so that Final Cut might be recognized I upgraded to 7.4.5 I hope I'm not going to regret the QuickTime upgrade? I need 5.0.4 because 5.0.1 is not recognizing my P2 files.
Thanks to you both, I found the misplaced booklets with the new serial number and am in the process of installing right now.
I've gotten so many new toys in the past couple months it's been difficult to keep everything straight...but what a great problem to have!
