FINAL STEP, 54 second project taking 5 hours. Need to cut the tail off...

I matched the audio with the video on the timeline and saved project, all
54 seconds. Now, I exported and the project (54 seconds) and played it. All went well
EXCEPT,
after the 54 seconds played, there was 45 seconds of blackness played. How can I cut the Tail and just have my 54 seconds? 54 seconds has taken me 5 hours...
Help me, please help me...

To what did you export your movie? To iDVD, to camcorder, to quicktime?
Examine your iMovie timeline carefully to be sure there is no stray clip at the end. You should zoom it out and look at the very end of the timeline. If you find something, delete it and that should help.
If there is no extra stray clip to remove, I think the best way to get your movie to its 54 seconds is to export it as a QuickTime Full Quality movie.
Then, take that newly created movie and put it into a new iMovie project. Play it there and if the prolonged silence of black is still present, just split the clip at that point and delete the unwanted portion.
Now you have your movie of the desired length and can export it to whatever you were doing the first time.

PS: If and when I get this fixed how does the battery work if you are going on a long trip for example out of the country and have no access to a computer to re-charge via USB port?

What kind of connection do you have? Dial-up? DSL, Cable, FioS?
And have you checked your firewall settings to make sure they are not interfering?

In ITunes when I'm using home sharing if I play the songs on another computer it cuts the songs off maybe 10 seconds plus from the end why is it doing this?

So I have ITunes Home Sharing on my desktop computer on. When I go to another computer and play the songs from the Home Share computer the songs get cut off maybe 10 seconds + at the end of the song. In other words it will not play the last 10 seconds of the song sometimes it's last 5 seconds sometimes its the last 15 seconds it seems to vary. I can't really find a pattern on the timing but I just don't understand why this is happening please help!

They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

Lion taking an age to download from the app store

Hi, I'm currently downloading Lion from the app store but its taking several hours to complete, from the progress bar it looks like it is approx 75% complete but may be stalled, any one else experienced this or does anyone have any suggestions to resolve the problem. I'm running a Mac book pro, 2.33 core 2 duo, os x version 10.6.8, my internet connection speed is good and working fine. thanks

Many of the apps I have installed (free and bought) have had multiple updates since launch.
This would seem to indicate that these programs have had issues (and hence the need for an update after only a few weeks).
Some of these are : Crash Bandicot, NYTimes, Tetris, File Magnet, Sudoku unlimited, Tap Tap Revenge
Seriously though, I dont know if these will cause the iphone to crash in the future... Its all hit and miss at the moment.

Raid- Understanding "Hot Spare" and Windows reinstall - Final Steps

Hello all,
If you follow couple of my other recent threads here you will see I have a warning of a failing drive in my 4 tb raid (4 x 1TB raid set.)
Also for an unrelated reason I am also needing to reinstall Windows 7. (and of course my Adobe Master collection CS5)
I ordered a 5th drive to serve as "Hot Spare" and it will be arriving sometime today from Amazon.
I want to make sure I do the above "final steps" properly, in the correct order.
I am basing my "final steps" based on Harm's advice on another thread:

So once my new hard drive arrives today from Amazon, I will, in the following order:
1) Replace failing hard drive. (Do I need to power down the computer to remove the failing hard drive and replace it with the hot spare? Or can I leave the computer powered on so that the raid software can continue its CONSISTANCY CHECK while II do all of the steps to rebuild the raid --- see note at bottom of this post...)
2) Create hot-spare
3) Use the Raid controller software (Areca) to EXTEND HOT SPARE
4) Rebuild raid (it should be done automatically)
THEN, after I confirm that the raid is working okay, I will
5) Reinstall Windows 7.
THe below step is what I am not entirely clear on:
6) I assume since the raid has already been rebuilt {before I did the windows 7 reinstall) I can do a very straightforward "reconnect" to the already working raid. In other words, I would reinstall the Areca raid software (using the Areca cd) and identify the raid and windows 7 will recognize the 4 tb raid as my raid drive.
I am tracking the delivery of my new hard drive and it is at least 5 or 6 hours away from arriving from Amazon.
**** CONSISTANCY NOTE: I the meantime I am having the Areca web based controller software do a CONSISTANCY check of the raid.
It is half way through the check and has found 144 errors so far. The consistancy check is rather vague about what it is doing. But can I assume that it is finding the errors and will automatically fix them.
Or do I have to do something to fix the errors once the consistancy check is finished (This is one reason why I would like to avoid powering down during the rebuilding of the raid.) Or will creating the hot spare, etc interrupt the consistancy check, meaning I must finish the consistancy check completley before rebuilding the raid.
Or should I abort the consistancy check and do that after I reinstall windows. (If possible I would like to do that so I can get on with the editing of my current project!!)

AME is taking 20 hours to render 30 min clip from AE

Hello.
I am new to Abode After Effects CC and its Adobe Media Encoder CC
I have made a video in AE cc for youtube purpose.
I saved the file as a AE File and opened the AME cc Encoder,
I have opend the AE file in AMEcc and put it in H.264 - HD 1080p 29.97 (Target Rate 32Mbps)
When I tell it to render, It says its going to take 23 Hours. It started at 8 hours, and went all the way up to 26 hours, and has now sat at 23 hours.
Its a 30 Minute clip
Please can you tell me where I am going wrong.
I used to use AE 5, and I used to render 30 minute videos with AME 5 within an hour, maybe an hour and a half,
I have only a 4GB RAM But we have moved this file that we are trying to render to another PC that has 8GB of Ram// Win 7,

It almost killed me, I tell ya. But I FINALLY got it figured on this end. I don't know if this will help you, Emily,, but after the war I just waged, I gotta tell somebody.
Okay, I uninstalled, and cleaned everything up - the CIA would have been jealous of my deletion skills.
I reinstalled only Premiere, AE, and of course Media Encoder came a long for the ride, and stopped there - and tried again.
As you can see - it's only 1 minute long and I got it down to 23mb.
But then we give it to ole Media Encoder.
20+ HOURS! But that's still HD, so I scrubbed everything out and tried with the tinest, lowest rate encoding I could dig up.
I don't know if y'all can see that down at the bottom - but I really did get it down to 2mb just for this experiment. I happily clicked the button and got ....

Oh them's fighting words! Errr... numbers!
So, I started researching, overhauling, generally driving myself in circles. Now my video card is decent, but it's not CUDA - but I discovered the card maker had a new driver out - it's beta, but fingers crossed.
It helped - doesn't have a lot of the bells and whistles, but I have a small but notable difference.
Media Encoder still crashes upon the second time I open it, or send anything to it, I have to reinstall from the patch file. Now this project I'm doing, I'm in a serious time crunch - so silly me thought it would be easier to get a template, and slap it together and go on down the road.
I should have known better. The first two templates I used, worked like a charm. Under an hour to render, and we zipped along just fine.
But now I realize I ow Media Encoder an apology. Not a big one - it's still giving me fits - but a little one.
It's the way the templates are set up. It would have been faster for me just to build this stuff from the ground up. I ended up ripping these suckers apart and putting them together in a much more efficient fashion.
I've never had this problem before, I never really looked that hard at this stuff. When I did - I was really to kill someone.
So, I ended up stripping these things down, and really streamlining them. I also started pre-rendering stuff.
I pre-compose all the time, but really haven't messed with pre-rendering, I do short trailer stuffs.
But pre-rendering helped a TON too!
I got that sucker lined out like you wouldn't believe!
AND DRUM ROLL!......

Well, since this wasn't working like I planned, I went back to AE and tried all sorts of different formats. I couldn't figure out why it worked just great on my first two renders, and it wasn't working with these last two.All four templates are different.
Then I realized it was because the last two were still awful despite me trying to fix them. I went back to my original template which is about the same length, and it has trapcode - but I tossed something together with that.
And rendered in 20 min in AE.
Media Encoder and I still aren't speaking.
I still haven't been able to get the second two templates to work - but I just got done rendering my project on the first template and it worked like a charm. So that's when I decided to pop over here.
What exactly do you have going on, Emily? I'm wondering now if not only pre-composing, but pre-rendering as much as you can will help. At least I hope it will!
It's either that or take a sledgehammer to it - which is still a possibility for me. hehe!

Exporting movie taking 10 hours

Hi I have a Canon HV30 HD camcorder. I have about an hour long of HD footage and it is taking FOREVER to export. If I export using "Quicktime Movie", the file comes out to being around 32 GIGAbytes, far too big for any practical use, but exports very quickly. If I export using "Using Quicktime Conversion", it takes MUCH longer, and I have yet to see how large the file will be because it is still exporting!! (I started it at around 3pm... it's 9:15 right now, and it is only at 45% and says it should be done in about 7 more hours...?!?!?!?!).
Obviously, I must be doing something wrong. Why is it taking soooooooooo long to export? I honestly don't mind waiting a while for things to export... but approximately 14+ hours for ONE video? There must be some mistake.
When I use quicktime conversion, the only setting I am changing is the Data rate and I am setting it to 4,000. I noticed that if I leave it on the default, final cut express exports the videos on such a high bit rate that other computers can barely even play the video because it is too much for the video cards to handle (my macbook pro can just barely play it, let only older pcs. the video shows up all choppy on the pcs) The bit rate comes to around 20,000 or something like that when its on the default which is why I set it to 4,000.
Does it have something to do with that as to why it is taking so long? Please help! I need to export these videos, but the time it's taking to export is far too long and I don't have that much time to wait for my computer.

Choosing the right export method depends on your intended destination (use) of the exported video. You apparently shot HD with your HV30, and in that case 1 hour of video will take somewhere between 25GB-50GB of disk space. So, your 32GB file is not unusual.
If you intend to export the video to iDVD, then you should export to QuickTime Movie and UNcheck the option called "Make Movie Self-Contained". This will give you a very small file that will export quickly. You can then import it into iDVD and you are on your way. DO NOT use QuickTime Conversion if you are sending your video to iDVD.
If you intend to export your video for other purposes, such as posting to a website, then QuickTime Conversion is generally the choice (eg. to create an H.264 or HPEG4 file). However there are many settings in QT Conversion and depending on what you choose, the exported file could well be very big and take hours & hours to export. The export time can also be affected by having a disk drive that is too full (say, more than 50% full or having less than 50GB free), you are running other apps, etc).
One other thing, and this is very important. Before you export from FCE, you should always do the following:
*Sequence > Render All > Both*
*Sequence > Render Only > Mixdown*
Then save your project. Then export. This will speed up your export times and help ensure good quality in the resulting video.
The big questions are ... what is the nature of your source video clips; what are your sequence settings; did you render everything; and what is the intended use for your exported video?

Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
      left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
        the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
      the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
            because it is three times faster than wireless.
