Find a particular form field

I'm new to forms with no training.  so i apologize if my question seems stupid.  I checked the book (which sadly is for the wrong version of acrobat), the online help, and i even googled it, but haven't found my answer, which surprises me, so it's probably just that i'm using the wrong search terms.
I'm trying to find a button that got randomly tossed into the file and now i can't find it to put it in the right place.  I have a 66 page form with, like a bazillion buttons, boxes and whatnot on it and i'm trying to find just this one button.  I've seen lists of  form fields in random things that pop up when the JS goes wonky, but i can't find my field in those because (i assume) it's only displaying the ones with busted JS.
i'm in acrobat 8 without indesign, or livecycle or any tools purported to make my life easier.  Can this be done?  My button is named HELP_BUTTON_5d and i guess i'm looking for some way to bring up a list of every form field (or every button for that matter) on the form, choose it and either get it's page number and x/y coordinates or get taken right to it.  I'd happily use advanced search, but it didn't seem to want to let me search by form field name.
Thanks

First of all, you can open the Fields panel on the left, select that button
but its name and then click it and the file will jump to the page its
located and select it.
Using code, you can execute the following to get the button's page number
(remember it's 0-based, so 0 means page 1, etc.):
this.getField("HELP_BUTTON_5d").page
This code will tell you the exact location of the button on the page:
this.getField("HELP_BUTTON_5d").rect
And this code will set the focus to that field:
this.getField("HELP_BUTTON_5d").setFocus()
By the way, just to make you feel better, InDesign or LiveCycle wouldn't
help you a bit with this problem...

    In versions of Acrobat prior to version 9, selecting a particular form tool (Textbox, Checkbox), etc. would only display Fields of that particular type in the Acrobat Designer (not LiveCycle).
    If one wanted to change a particular property of all check boxes for example, one would select the Checkbox Tool, Click Edit>Select All>Right Click one of the Checkboxes and Set the Property for all of the Form's Checkboxes.
    Selecting a particular form tool in the Acrobat (not Lifecycle) Designer in version 9 appears to no longer filter the display to that particular form field type. Is there any way to display only 1 particular form field type in or set a particular property for all existing Form Fields of a particular type (Check Box, Text Box, etc.) in Acrobat 9?

    Thanks for the tip..Am aware of this option and have used JavaScript to batch change properties in the past...
    Am looking for a way to replicate the interactive procedure available in previous versions.  Also, want a way to only display certain Form Field types (use this when analyzing forms which I didn't create).

    I guess you wrongly closed the thread without any answer.
    utilities --> version, it will give all the list of languages of SAPScript.
    Or goto SE71,
    Press F4, in place of form name and goto unclassified forms, you will see all form names with available languages.

    how to find and replace data in form fields in acrobat xi, its not allowing to do so while trying, asking for adobe livecycle to get installed. please help.

    Easiest way to do it is the following:
    - Open the PDF file in Acrobat.
    - Go to Tools - Forms - More Form Options - Export Data.
    - Save the form data as an XML file somewhere on your system.
    - Open XML the file in a plain-text editor (I recommend Notepad++).
    - Let's say you want to replace all the years in the dates from "2013" to "2014". Do a global Search&Replace of "2013-" to "2014-" (I added the dash just to make sure that only date fields are edited).
    - Save the XML file (maybe under a new name).
    - Go back to the PDF file, and now go to Tools - Forms - More Form Options - Import Data.
    - Select the edited XML file and import it.
    - Done!

  • Autodetect text form fields-How do you get it to find all field areas?

    I have 50 pages, all identical.  I created in InDesign and its simply just a chart that is about 50 lines with 4 columns.  It was created as a table also and very clean.  I want each of those cells to be converted to text form fields in Acrobat.  When I run the auto detect, it finds every one except the column on the far right and one of the cells on the very bottom with all 50 pages.  I really need this to autodetect these or else I will have to do all those missing ones manually and that is a TON I will have to do and give unique names also which I really dont want to do!  I have attached a screenshot of the form as is and another showing all the detected fields.

    I don't think that there is a way to do, I think your only option is to add manually. If that column is the same size as last one on the right that it detected then you can copy>paste. But beware you may have to rename the field and double check your tabbing order when doing so.
    If all your 50 pages have the exact same fields then get your 1st page setup. Then create page 2 and open your pdf with the correct fields, go to Document>Replaces Pages, and select page 2, so the same for all pages and then combine all pages into 1 pdf when finished (seems like a lot of steps but in my opinion faster then doing 50+ pages and however many fields). As long as your 1st page is the exact same field setup as all the rest this should prevent you from having to redo all 50 pages.

  • Query regarding the fields details in particular form for all the users in

    Dear All,
                  I have one query regarding the fields details in particular form for all the users in company.
    Let take an exapmle if i had created Purchase Order having fields in content tab as 1.Item No. 2.Quantity 3.Unit Proce   4.Total   5. Location.
    While Login in User manager i set these fields only for Purchase order , but when i login from other user and open the similar purchase order the defaults fields are also seen including  above 4 fieds .
    Now my question is how to set the User choice fiels for the particular form that are common to all users.
    Means whenever i login in any user and opens the same document the same fields should be seen....Thanksssss.........

    You have to login with each and every user and do the Form Settings of every forms, so that all the forms look same for all the users.
    This is a manual job and you have do do it with every user login.
    Alternately, you can try out this link that explains

  • How to find which form fields are duplicated

    OK I've been making several forms in PDF to merge together at a later date. Now I merged them but its telling me I have multiple form text fields that are named the same. How can I find out all of which form text fields are named the same so I can change them. Is there a search function to do that or not?
    -Darian

    Thank you for your response and if i wanted to remove the form fields then this would defiantly help me. I am actually trying to put a few different PDFs together to make one big PDF and I have form fields that are named the same, per the message I get when merging 2 PDF docs. Because there is so many form fields to go through I was wanting to know if there was a quick way to see all the form fields that are named the same so I can go change the name of them. I want to keep all the form fields just cant have any of them named the same. thanks

  • How can i find the adobe form translations

    Hi Friends,
    how can i find the adobe form translations?
    i mean i want to know in how many languages my adobe form has been translated?
    is their any report or is their any technique to find the translations........................
    Thanks,
    Harish.K

    Hello Harish,
    To find the translation of Adobe form is nothing but to find the labels or texts used in this adobe form in various languages. This will give you an idea on how many languages your adobe form has been translated.
    So to find the translations in different languages, you have to go to Context node of the Adobe form. Then go through the text nodes which are used as labels. These will be normally stored as Standard texts in SO10.
    For example. Take the text name of any one text node.
    1) Go to SE38.
    2) Type program RSTXTRAN.
    3) Let the Text key - object be TEXT.
    4) Then enter this text name in the field Text key - name. I have put the sample standard text ZTEST_ADOBE as shown below.
    5) Let the Text key - ID be ST.
    6) In Text key - language, Enter *  (i.e enter the Asterisk) because you want to find out all the languages.
    The screen parameters will be as shown below.
    7) Now Execute this report.
    8) It will show all the various languages in which this particular standard text is used which is nothing but the Adobe form is being used in these many languages. For example, the standard text ZTEST_ADOBE is used in 3 languages, English, German and Spanish as shown below. It will look as shown below.
    Note: This will give you the more or less the overall idea of the form that has been used in these many languages. But also make sure the standard text with particular language is also linked with the Transport Request. Because there are chances that the text was created in a particular language but was never used.

  • How can I add form field value to the file name in save as dialog box

    I do not want the form to be saved automatically, just want the form to auto populate the "file name" only.
    A little background on the forms I want to use:  My company has 70 retail outlets, I'll use one of our pdf forms called an "Incident Report" as an example.  I would like for a store manager to be able to complete the form, then email the form to the main office (I already have javascript to add field values and form name to the email subject line), once the main office receives it, I want for them to be able to file the pdf electronically on our server.  We have mutliple forms that we use so I do not want any of the forms to automatically save anywhere, (at this time anyway) I just want the office personnel to be able to click "save as" (or whatever they will need to click) and the form automatically add certain field values from the pdf they have received, of which will be different each time the form is sent to the office (Date, store #, employee name etc.) in addition to the name of the form in the "File name" of the "Save As" dialog box.  The main office employees will decide into which server file the pdf should be saved.
    I'm using Acrobat 8 professional, the stores and office personnel use Adobe reader.
    One little note:  We currently print and file a lot of paper on a daily bases, as soon as I can get this to work, we are going green.
    Me and a lot of trees in this will really apprecitate any help you can give with this!  :-)

    You might want to take a look at the document "Developing Acrobat Applications Using JavaScript" (js_developer_guide.pdf) which is part of the Adobe Acrobat SDK, which can be downloaded here. Read the "Privileged versus non-privileged context" (p. 45ff.). You will find an example for "Executing privileged methods in a non-privileged context". Should be almost exactly what you are looking for.
    Small Outline: For security reasons ("the user always has to know what's going on") you are not allowed to use the "Doc.saveAs"-method without the user permission (--> in a non-privileged context). In order to reach the goal of a privileged context you can use a trusted function. You do this by creating a JavaScript file (*.js) in either the Application-JavaScript-Folder (default location on Windows systems: "%ProgramFiles%\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Javascripts") or the User-JavaScript-Folder (default location on Windows systems: "%AppData%\Adobe\Acrobat\10.0\JavaScripts"). Add the following content to the new file:
    myTrustedBrowseForDoc = app.trustedFunction( function ( oArgs ) {
         app.beginPriv();
              var myTrustedRetn = app.browseForDoc( oArgs );
         app.endPriv();
         return myTrustedRetn;
    myTrustedSaveAs = app.trustedFunction( function ( doc, oArgs ) {
         app.beginPriv();
              var myTrustedRetn = doc.saveAs( oArgs );
         app.endPriv();
         return myTrustedRetn;
    The developer guide actually wants you to add this content to the existing "config.js" file. I recommend creating a new file, since its easier to deploy in a network. Either way, every client/user who needs to be able to save documents this way, needs this JavaScript Code in his Application/User-JavaScript-Folder.
    Within the Acrobat Document, which you want to obtain a certain file name, you can now use the trusted functions "myTrustedBrowseForDoc" and "myTrustedSaveAs" to store the file. To call the trusted functions and deliver the file name you can either you use a form field (button) or you add a new menu item. Add the following JavaScript Action to the button/menu item and change "Roller Coaster" to the name of the field which contains the value which you want to become the new file name:
    var fileName = this.getField("Roller Coaster").valueAsString;
    try {
         var oRetn = myTrustedBrowseForDoc({bSave: true, cFilenameInit: fileName + ".pdf"});
         try {
              myTrustedSaveAs(this, { cPath: oRetn.cPath, cFS:oRetn.cFS });
         catch(e) {
              console.println("Save not allowed, perhaps readonly.");
    catch(e) {
    console.println("User cancelled Save As dialog box");
    Good Luck!

  • Acrobat XI Windows 7 - unable to (copy and) paste form fields to a different pdf.

    To maintain a consistent appearance and function in the forms I create for various departments, I copy a few form fields  (text, checkboxes) from an unrelated Acrobat PDF. Then I paste those fields into a different PDF document that I am making fillable.
    I do this because Acrobat does not allow setting a default for certain attributes when creating form fields, i.e. an unchecked scroll option, a default font other than Helvetica (in Acrobat 8, 9, and X). Plus it is time-saving to copy and paste fields that are the same in another PDF, like name, address, phone. etc.
    We just updated to Acrobat XI and Windows 7 and now I cannot paste copied fields onto a different PDF.
    Using "replace pages" is not applicable as I am pasting to an entirely different form and copying form fields with the settings I use.
    Is this a glitch or is something new that was not in Acrobat 8, 9, and X?
    Also, question regarding this forum entry -  http://forums.adobe.com/message/5638333#5638333 - which is somewhat different from my current question.
    The PDF creator could not paste copied fields on other pages of the same PDF. Was this ever resolved so that copy and paste worked as it has for the last 3 versions of Acrobat?
    Thanks!
    Joanie

    Gilad:  You're right: when the fields are different, such as a checkbox and a text field, and you try to title them the same, Acrobat gives you a message. I received no messages, the field names are not the same or I missed one and Acrobat is no longer messaging about it.
    My question is different. Acrobat XI will not let me paste any field copied from a different PDF.  I've been doing that for 5 years in three different versions.  Maybe Acrobat XI has a new process for that, which I could not find in Acrobat help. Maybe it's because all forms now have extended rights automatically in Acrobat XI and there is another method to copy common fields to other PDFs.
    Any thoughts about the new Acrobat XI? It's different in many good ways, but different.
    Thanks for your ideas.

  • Setting tab order to form fields contained within a table, Indesign CS6

    I have created a form in ID CS6, and have put all the tabs in order so that people can easily navigate it when filling it in. However, all of the form fields that are contained within tables are not in order, and I can't find any way of putting them in order without changing them in acrobat after I have made the interactive PDF. This means that every time my client makes changes to the form I have to manually put all the fields in order again, which is time consuming. Is anyone able to help?

    This tab order dialogue box is nearly useless if you have a complex form with hundreds of form fields as there is no way to interact with the document when the dialogue is open and clicking on an entry in the list does not highlight the respective field. Furthermore, if you have arrays of radio buttons, or check boxes acting like radio buttons, ie all with the same form field name, there's no way to know which order they should be arranged in since they can't be selected or identified while this dialogue is open!
    That is immensely frustrating to say the least.
    It's quite ridiculous that Adobe hasn't fixed this bug in years and this user interface is shockingly bad.

  • Editing Form Fields inside Acrobat? (after using LiveCycle Designer)

    Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended ==  Acrobat
    LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 == LiveCycle Designer
    =========================================
    Say I downloaded a new PDF from the interwebs.
    I want to add some forms fields so I go to Forms ==> Add or Edit Fields... (inside Acrobat)
    Now Acrobat will detect possible places where to add the form fields. I make changes etc. Then I am  satisfied with my form fields.
    Now say I want to remove a particular object from the PDF, lets take an image as an example.
    So I fire up  LiveCycle Designer; File ==> New ==> Import a PDF document ==>  Create an Interactive Form with a Flowable Layout.
    I remove that pesky little object.
    In LiveCycle Designer, I save the file as PDF.
    I open up Acrobat. I realize I need to make some more changes to some of the Form  Fields.
    But now instead of "Add or Edit Fields..." option I get "Edit Form in  Designer..."
    I hate the GUI of LiveCycle Designer --- I had rather edit the form  fields from inside Acrobat, as it is easy and fast to change multiple  form fields in a few clicks.

    Thank you Niall for the above response; Your response gave me an idea which allowed me to remove that line by zooming in to 200%
    You know Acrobat detects Form Fields for you.
    But many times it makes mistakes, for example in the screenshot below it made the boxes that came with the PDF as text fields instead of check boxes.
    The thing is rather than me delete the (form) fields it detected, and start over by making new check boxes, I will not be able to place my new check box in exact locations as Acrobat has done.
    When I imported the fields that Acrobat made into LC (by saving the PDF in Acrobat and then opening it with LC) I get option to change the Object Type from Text Field to Check Box when I right click the object.
    Is there a similar way to change the Object Type from Text Field to Check Box inside Acrobat? Any suggestions?
    ===========
    I would really like to do it inside Acrobat because then if I have to make some minor changes to some field properties, all my hard work which I did by filling the fields gets deleted, as I am forced to use LC. The text I add to the fields don't get deleted when I edit the field properties inside Acrobat. I don't know why LC decides to delete all the text which is filled out in the form fields even though the PDF is saved in Acrobat before being imported into LC?
    Here is the above PDF file with the text boxes:

    Again thanks for all your guidance so far.

    Hello COTI
    Unfortunatly, SAP MDM doesn't have good ability for  WF search.
    All WF clarify by it's status (unlaunched, avialable, Received, complited, error  etc.)
    For each WF SAP MDM assing unique Job ID and this id will be shown in Job ID field in Data Manager WF Tab.
    You can change WF list order by all WF fields like as Job ID, Step, User, Start etc. and try to find your's WF.
    You can use Java API - this is one of the best solution for WF management and WF mass upload  (for example)
