Find/Change function

I used the Find/Change function to change a particular word's format from "regular" to "bold" and within a numbered list where the Find/Change function applied, it changed the font of the number to a different font not used anywhere in the document.

Please show us a screen capture of the Find/Change dialog and the Change Formatting screen you get by clicking on the magnifier icon next to "change formatting" at the bottom of the dialog.You can embed screen shots in a post by using the camera icon on the web page like this:

  • JS for Find/Change

    I am a novice with JS, but trying to make a couple of enhancements to workflow using scripting. I have managed to figure most things out ok, but usually just need a little kickstart. What I am trying to do is:
    InDesign CS2
    Find a specific sequence of characters in a text selection (in this case, " - " (that is space dash space) and replace with end of nested style & forced line break (^h^n). At the same time, search for double carriage returns and change to single carriage returns (^p^p => ^p).
    Currently, using the Find/Change Function from the Edit menu but I'd like to be able to just apply a script to do it all. I have tried to dig through the archives for a similar posting, but haven't had a lot of luck. If anyone can please point me in the right direction, it would most certainly be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you in advance.
    -Scott

    Thank you Peter ... I have just purchased the electronic version of the O'Reilly book that you recommend. This will certainly help.
    One thing that is not clear ... can I use characters such as "^p" or "^h" directly when setting my parameters, or is there a unicode equivalent that I would need to use?
    Thanks again.

  • Find/Change for internet links?

    Is it possible to do a Find/Change for internet links?
    That is, if I have URLs that do not appear in the text of the AppleWorks document, but in the links window, and I want to change all the links beginning with http://us.imdb.com to http://pro.imdb.com
    It seems this is not possible through the Find/Change function under the Edit menu, but perhaps I just don't know the right way. Otherwise, the only way to do it would seem to be to change each one individually in the links window with the edit function.

    Hello
    Alas, the last formula is the right one.
    The URLs are not stored in the body of the document so the Find/Change tool is unable to find them.

    I am trying to find a function module or BAPI for internal order change. I did come across a function module ALE_INTERNALORDER_DB_CHANGE which directly updates the internal order using insert statements. Can i use this for internal order change or this is any other Function module for updating the internal order.
    I dont want to use BDC as a option. Please suggest.

    This is possible using the Rotator Component Widget from Infosemantics.com.au but it is only compatible with  SWF output, not HTML5.
    Go to this page and scroll down to the video tutorials about the Rotator Component widget:

    I'm not clear on exactly what it is you're asking, but if you're referring to changing opacity, you can change the opacity setting for the States of a menu item via the States panel and Control Strip.

  • How to find Change number for a Material

    Hi,
    If we know the material number and Revision level then how can we find the Change Number of that material.
    Is there any table in which i can find Change number for a revision level or is there any Function module available.
    Regards,
    Vaibhav

    Hi Vaibhav,
    Is there any table to find the change number and revision level of a material. I have change number and material and revision level coming from external system. But i need to check that with SAP whether it exists or not.
    Is there any table link to find whether a material has change number.

  • Find Change through external text file

    Hello folks
    I am bit pretty in InDesign scripting so could you please look into this.
    How can i change any particular text field in Indesign CS3 document from text file.
    I do have find change script but for each InDesign document specific text file is assigned.
    So each time i have to modify find change GREP property that is also repetetive of work. Is there any way to get find change information should be extract from external text file.
    Many Tanks in advance

    In the FindChangeByList script, you could customize the function myFindFile(myFilePath) {...} as to search the FindChangeList text file in the document location rather than the script location. That's an example. The question is: given a document, where will you have the corresponding FindChangeList?

  • The "Find Faces" function is deactivated on iPhoto 9.5, in OSX Mavericks. Is there any way to activate / deactivate this function?

    Hello,
    Instead of deactivting the "Find Faces" Function, I would like iPhoto 9.5.1 to run this.
    On my MacBook Aluminium Late 2008, running Mavericks 10.9.3 this function is grayed out, and never run.
    Is there a way to activate this function?

    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It makes no changes to your data.
    Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    defaults read -app iPhoto PKFaceDetectionEnabled | pbcopy
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
    Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered.
    The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produced no output, the Clipboard will be empty. Paste into a reply to this message.
    The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.

  • Control authorization of mass change functionality via PCUI

    Hi,
    We are having the following issues with the Opportunity iview, com.sap.pct.crm.opp.opportunities_s.(Business package for CRM 5.0 and contains functionality CRMD_BUS2000111).
    Once the user clicks Go..he has the list of Opportunities. He can select some or select all and use "Mass Change".
    We would like to control the functionality of "Mass Change" attribute in the backend CRM System so that only a few people can be authorized to do this. However we are not able to find any CRM authorization
    object that controls the mass change activity for opportunities and pursuits in the backend CRM System.
    What is the backend CRM Authorization object that controls this functionality in the backend CRM System ?
    Regards,
    Rajan.K

    Frank,
    In IW38/IW3N we added our own Mass-Change button (in addition to the standard option) via Enhancement Spot ES_EAM_LIST_ENHANCEMENTS_EXT. This was required to perform functions that don't exist in the standard mass-change function e.g. mass-add/delete operations, mass-un-TECO, mass-un-CLSD, etc.
    This Enhancement Spot may work for IE05 too.

  • Finished script: Use grep find/change to fill in a supplied table of contents

    This script is now complete, and has been the subject of most of my previous posts. Just in case anyone wanted to know what the finished script ended as, here it is.
    Thanks so much to all. A lot of really helpful folks on this board are very responsible for the success of this task. This script is to be one of hopefully many in the creation of our records. But it's a huge leap forward. Thanks again to everyone that helped.
    Cheers,
    ~Nate
    Task:
    Automatically find town names in listings, and fill in table of contents template on page 2 accordingly.
    Example of page 2 toc, initially:
    Example of a page of content. The town names are what need to be referenced on the TOC:
    Example of page 2 toc once script is finished:
    Because of the need to include the transaction dates on the TOC (comes as a provided, tagged-text file), a simple Indesign-generated TOC can't be used alone.
    This script uses an Indesign-generated TOC that's on a master page called "T-tocGen" ... It then uses grep search and replaces to grab the needed information, and insert it into the page 2 TOC.
    The script will update a generated TOC and then search for an instance of a page number, and town name. The generated toc lists all included towns in the following format:
    (line start)## tab townName(line end)
    In Grep, this would be (please note, extra \ for \d and \t ... javascript needs that for some reason):
    ^\\d+\\t(.*)$
    After the script gets the info it needs from a found instance of the above, it replaces that line with "---", to prevent that line from being picked up once again.
    The script with then place the needed page number in it's rightful place on page 2, replacing the XX.
    A while loop is used to repeat the above process until there are no longer any instances of "^\\d+\\t(.*)$" present.
    Not every town runs every issue, so once the script is done, it removes all remaining instance of "XX" on the page 2 TOC.
    FINAL CODE:
    TOC replace
    This script will use grep find/change methods to apply page numbers in
    tocGen to the XX's on page2TOC.
    // define the text frame of generated TOC
        var tocGenFrame  = document.masterSpreads.item("T-tocGen").pages.item(0).textFrames.item(0);

    var okGo = "1";

    Thanks for the reply.
    You are correct but the problem is there are three rows, One row is 100% black, the second is 60% black and the third is 40% black. I want to change the black to blue, the 60% black to an orange and the 40% black to a light shaded blue. In the find/change option you can select the tint you want to find and replace but yea.. does work on table cells.. oddly enough.

  • How to use Find Change to add FC in front of all item numbers?

    Hello,
    I am using Indesign CS5 on iMac, running OS 10.8.3.
    I designed a product catalog that has 148 pages. Now I need to save the same design and make a new catalog for our wholesalers. On the wholesalers catalog I need to change the item numbers and add FC in front of each item number. How can I use find change to find each item and change them with FC in front of the item numbers? The following are a few examples of the item numbers:
    LED-4042 I want to change it to FCLED-4042
    UA-42 I want to change it to FCUA-42
    SC-110 change it to FCSC-110
    KN-10 change it to FCKN-10
    etc....
    I am hoping there is a fast way to find and change these.  I was looking in to GREP, but I could not figure how to do this.
    Thanks,
    Omar

    One way would be to just run it and then *remove* any double FC's -- but GREP can do even more! One of its many functions is to scan ahead for the presence or absence of certain text, and only act when it is (or it is not) there. This is called "lookbehind" (before the text you want to match) and "lookahead" (after the text you want to match).
    In this case, you want to find a phrase starting with capitals, but NOT the exact string "FC". That's a job for Negative Lookahead -- Only Match If Not.
    Try this: search for
    \b(?!FC)\u+-\d+\b
    ... the Replace With stays the same.

  • [JS CS3] How to load Find/Change dialog?

    Hello,
    Below is a script that uses GREP to find straight apostrophies and then change them to smart (curly) ones. The script invokes the Find/Change dialog so that the user can see what she or he is doing.
    However, if the user last used the Find/Change dialog in the TEXT mode, that is the mode that appears. I want the script to go to the GREP mode. I see that there is code for app.loadFindChangeQuery(queryName, searchMode), but I have no idea what the "queryName" is and how to use it in this script.
    Thanks for any help.

    theGrepLoader("~'", "~]");

        app.findGrepPreferences = NothingEnum.NOTHING;
        app.changeGrepPreferences = NothingEnum.NOTHING;
        app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = grepFindIt;
        app.changeGrepPreferences.changeTo = grepChangeIt;
        app.menuActions.item("Find/Change...").invoke();
    }//end theGrepLoader

    Thanks, Peter!
    I appreciate your help but I have found another solution. I am amazed at my own stupidity sometimes. You see, I do my scripting in a very lame sort of way because I have never used Javascript outside of InDesign. As such, I find myself at a disadvantage because the documentation that Adobe provides assumes that you are aware of many of the basics. Case in point: I have always had trouble manipulating strings because I NEVER KNEW that you could search and replace strings! I just could not find examples of this in the Adobe documentation. So here I was in some cases adding temporary textFrames so I could get to my strings as text contents and then removing the temporary textFrames at the end of the script. In this particular case I needed to merge several paragraphs into one paragraph. Now that I know how to search & replace strings, it is so simple to strip away all the paragraph returns (which are included in text contents). I am learning, albeit rather slowly. Thanks again.

  • More Find/Change Issues !!

    by script I'm going to create and setup new doc, use a dialog to place a text file, and remove content from the text, format and save.<br /><br />the text file contains old msword-to-pagemaker format tags that I need to delete. the tags are in this format: <br /><br /><PmTags1.0Win><fSouvenir>    etc.<br /><br />I need to delete or convert to indesign cs3 the tags<br />(including "<" & ">" signs). <br /><br />I saved a series of 8 find/change steps to delete the content (text not grep) and need to run them consecutively and through as many as 400 entries<br />(all in the same threaded text box).<br /><br />Supposedly their is a "new" FindChangeByList.jsx somewhere that works, but I am unable to find it. the scripting/index page on adobe's website is useless, and provides no help what so ever. no links either.<br /><br />Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Seth,
    re: "Supposedly their is a "new" FindChangeByList.jsx somewhere that works, but I am unable to find it. the scripting/index page on adobe's website is useless, and provides no help what so ever. no links either."
    I just looked, and everything is still working. Go to:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/indesign/scripting/index.html
    Then click the Scripting Resources tab.
    Here are the direct links that might be helpful--first, updated sample scripts:
    http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/products/indesign/scripting/downloads/indesign_cs 3_sample_scripts.zip
    Second, the scripts that go with the Scripting Guide:
    http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/products/indesign/scripting/downloads/indesign_cs 3_guide_scripts.zip
    In the latter, you should take a look at the ReadPMTags.jsx script (it's in the Text folder inside the JavaScript folder of the uncompressed archive). You can take the function (of the same name) from that script and modify it to do exactly what you want.
    Also, if you don't see links or information at that page--which browser are you using?
    Thanks,
    Ole

  • Keep layout position when using Find/Change?

    When using Find/Change in InDesign CS4, each occurrence of the "Found" material is centered in the window, so the page moves around with each find. Is there a way to keep the page in a fixed position when searching through a document?

    Actually, I can think of a shortcut for the hard part: The user uses the
    regular find/change UI to make all their settings. Then, they run the
    script, which will simply use the settings in the UI. Nice, huh! So you
    could get a listBox of all the finds -- select the entry and you get
    taken to the desired location. Click the "change" button and the change
    is made. Here's a proof of concept:
    #targetengine engine20
    var myFinds = app.findText();
    var w = new Window("palette");
    var myList = w.add("listbox", undefined, myFinds);
    var changeButton = w.add("button", undefined, "Change");
    myList.onChange = gotoFound;
    changeButton.onClick = makeTheChange;
    w.show();
    function gotoFound(){
    app.select(myFinds[myList.selection.index].parentTextFrames[0].parent.parent);
         app.select(myFinds[myList.selection.index]);
    function makeTheChange(){
         myFinds[myList.selection.index].changeText();
    Obviously very rudimentary: but this does work in CS4. If the list is
    too long, though, the change button will disappear off the bottom of the
    screen. Also, really once the change is made, the item should be removed
    from the list, but there's a bug in CS4 that makes it impossible to do
    that simply, if I recall correctly (or was that only a tree list?)
    Also, I have found that the only sure way of getting the entire spread
    to show is as I've done it above (and it would need much more error
    checking than this -- for instance, overset text).

  • Text or GREP find/change method to assign tags

    Hi all
    I could use a text or GREP find/change method to  assign tags to paragraph styles (for use in FindChangeByList), would anyone be able to help please?
    Steve

    Hi Peter
    I produce a quarterly magazine for which text is supplied in Word format.
    I currently run the 'FindChangeByList' script to format body text, headings, bulleted and numbered lists, web and email address text styling and to remove/correct all extraneous characters etc.
    Once the job is printed I need to produce a tagged 'accessible' readable (eg: read out loud function in Acrobat) pdf from the file, for text to speech readers.
    I am currently using the map tags to styles function, which allows me to assign tags which in turn gives me control of the 'text reading' order.
    What I'd like to be able to do is automatically apply the Tags to syles while processing the 'FindChangeByList' script.
