Finder flickering.
Hi,
One of our G5 with 10.4.3, strated to show a peculiar problem which I never seen before. The finder starts flickering and the user is no more able to do anything. He can't access his folders or partitions as the screen is flickering. I tried to repair the permissions from the os cd but still the problem remains. I don't want to do the archieve and install. Is there any solution to this?

Crashed, rebooted, cannot open Finder, desktop empty, Finder flickering. Help!
I discovered my MacBook Pro OS X Version 10.6.7 had crashed. Command+Opt+Esc would not work to reboot, so I had to press the power button to reboot. Once it booted, I was able to launch applications in my doc, but when I went to open Finder, I got the error message 10810 that finder could not be opened. I noticed that my desktop was completely empty, no icons. When I close all applications, there is no bar at the top of the screen. The little light below Finder that indicates that an application is running is flickering. When I Command+Opt+Esc, Finder appears to flicker in the listings as well, so I can neither quit Finder nor open Finder.
Is this a virus or something else and do you have any ideas how I can fix it?

Go to ~/LIbrary/Preferences
Move the com.apple.finder.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
Restart your Mac.
MIght be a good time to see how much free space there is on the startup disk.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
If you can't open the MacintoshHD icon, launch Disk Utility in /Applications/Utilities
Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then check Available and Capacity at the bottom of the window. -
Finder unstable/monitor stays on with closed clamshell
Am experiencing some strange problems with my MacBook Air running Mountain Lion and up to date. My finder flickers off and on every minute or two, and my apple logo stays lit when the clamshell is closed. Occasionally the fan keeps humming too. I have an external monitor that used to come on when the power, keyboard, and monitor were attached. No more. It still connects, but since the monitor on the closed clamshell stays on the external monitor does not do me much good. I've tried everything I can think of, including resetting SMC and PRAM, booting in safe mode, and checking power saver setting. Any ideas?

Where is support? This is my main question, FCP Studio had phone support.
After importing a XML from DaVinci Resolve a few clips seem to be corrupt, if i play these clips it breaks FCP and the video in the viewer flashes from the video to black almost every other frame, i have to restart the computer to get it to play normal again.
I have a 2013 Mac Pro and FCPx is sluggish as ****! I alway work from Proxies and the interface still is sluggish and clunky! So frustrating!

Flickering finder and safari, and sound not working?
Firstly the screen froze whilst the radio was still playing. I could move the mouse cursor but not click on anything.
So, I did a safe reboot and the desktop reset.
Everything now responds to the mouse but Finder is flickering when scrolling and Safari is really flickering - in hte window and address bar.
The sound is also not working.
Any ideas?

Just been playing with the desktops and found a bunch of open Finder windows along with a window asking me if I wanted to erase the Trash files.
Seems like they were hiding behind an app window on one of the desktops (found it by accident as I was scrolling through the desktops using the swipe gesture on my Trackpad).
I've assigned the Finder to a desktop (desktop 1) and it seems to be OK at the moment (opens new windows and Trash icon works).
I've tried opening Finder by clicking on the Dock icon in all the desktops and it opens without any problems (you can see it scroll to Desktop 1). The folders on the desktop I couldn't before now open OK (again in Desktop 1).
Looks like the quick fix to the problem is to assign Finder to its own Desktop. I'll be keeping an eye on it :-)

Just upgraded to OSX 10.9 mavericks on macbook pro mid 2011 version. Having a big issue here that whenever my mac comes back from sleep, i.e after I open the lid, the screen flickers and there is an error of Finder not opening properly. Any fix to this?
My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now. About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

Flickering on finder window when uploading or opening.
I got my macbook pro 13in in November so it is brand new.I suffered a fall on the ice with my laptop in my backpack.Back pack first a week ago.I have a shell case for it,but am worried something might have happened internally.
It has been fine up until the past couple days.I began to notice black flickering occurring on my screen.I rebooted and fine.Then today I noticed when uploading things online a strong flickering showed on the finder.So I tried System Preferences > Display and UNCHECK the setting for "Automatically adjust brightness as ambient light changes".This worked on safari,but I went to open up a file in photoshop and the flickering occurred once more.I'm not sure if when dropped something occured or if just some kind of error.Anyone know?and I have a macbook pro 13.3 retina and yosemite

Finder bugs - No jpg/pdf preview in iconview, flickering copy + icon
I updated to Snow Leopard last weekend, most things seem ok but i've got some real problems with finder.
As described in the subject.
The icon view completely fails to show me some jpegs or pdf contents, it just stays as a jpeg or pdf icon from preview. Quite frustrating when the zooming and multipage pdf navigation is one of the features meant to be in Snow Leopard.
Other than that whenever i try to copy a file or folder the green + in a circle that goes next to the icon i'm dragging with the mouse flickers like crazy.
I've rebooted, no joy. Anyone else suffer this or have any tips?This has been happening constantly. Every few days I lose my icon previews for PDF, JPG and other graphic formats.
You can fix it by tossing your Finder preferences:
User > Library > Preferences > com.apple.finder.plist
Then relaunch Finder -

Hello, since 10 minutes now my icons on the desktop are flickering / bliking / flashing, the little light under the finder keeps going off and on also. I was working on word, and everything shut down. I tried to restaure my file, but then the paperbin was empty !!!!!! !!! Please help me !! the finder won't open, nore my docs file !!!! Now there is just NO MORE files on my desktop.. it's getting worse !!!! Also, I tried to restart the computer twice.. nothing happended.. still blking... PLease help me !!!!!!!

Sorry for the delay. I tried another computer and it still flickers. This is an intermitant problem. I always turn off my monitor when I am away from my computer and it usually happens when I turn it back on. Sometimes it goes away but not always.
Ok now I just went to my desktop to find out the settings. I right clicked and the monitor started flickering then stopped after a bit. Weird.
1920X1080 (recommended)

It happens with HDMI and regular monitor cable.
If it is a defective capacitor do you know if that can be fixed?

Macbook pro 2011 early cannot find right resolution for external display and keeps flickering
I have a macbook pro 2011 early running 10.9, and a LG FLATRON W2242T external screen. Also, I have a VGA to miniport from Apple and a VGA to HDMI, plus a HDMI to miniport(from Apple). By just connect with VGA to miniport to my MBP, it just flickers few times and stops detecting. But by connect VGA to HDMI converter and HDMI to miniport to my MBP, it keeps flickering, a non-stop flickering. The external screen always shows no signal. However, if I connect my MBP to my TV through HDMI to miniport, it works fine. But connecting the VGA port to my TV, it gets the same problem. I have tried clear my PRAM many times, and it gets the same result. Does anyone have the same problem? Thanks

Flickering Network Drive icons+crazy finder behavior?
I have a video that I will post a link to below. In FCP, this is what I am seeing. It is a network drive and the flashing icons on the desktop are network drives. Any help would be great as I can't select media to reconnect to. Thanks

Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter flickers
I have 2 Samsung SyncMaster 23 in, HD Displays connected to my Mac Mini. The Display connected via the Mini DP to VGA adapter flickers erratically. This started happening after installing the latest upgrade of OSX Mountain Lion. I called Apple support, they gave me a list of steps to try to fix the problem, which I followed to the letter, to no avail. The problem is annoying, to say the least. I tried to find out if there was a firmware update for the adapter, but I am running the latest firmware (1.03).
I would appreciate any help to solve this issue.Thank you for your message.
1. Both monitors only have VGA input.
2. The other adapter, Mini-DVI to VGA has always worked properly.
3. The Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter is an Apple original product I bought at an Apple store. I bought 2 adapters.
4. Actually I have 2 Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapters: The one I use with my Mac Mini, and another adapter I use to connect my Mac Book Pro to a Panasonic projector.
5. I have tried using both adapters, and the flickering problem is present using either adapter.
6. I believe the flickering problem is definitely something that needs to be addressed and solved by Apple. The adapter is its product, and should work as advertised, no matter what version of OSX I am running. Please remember that there was no flickering before I upgraded to the latest OSX Mountain Lion.
7. I do not believe buying an adapter from another manufacturer, as you suggest, would solve the problem.

I have been podcasting...downloading lots of the free ones... and some of them are a few megabytes but some are 1/2 of a gigabite. This takes up space, and also OS X And OS 9 on the same 10gb hard drive. There is 1.5 gb left.
My 80gb samsung hard drive connected to USB, keeps getting "Device Removal" again, and I opened Disk Utility and it said something like "It is a 1 and it should be 0." and it did not repair it. }=[ It still mounted it, and it has all the files and nothing appears to be damaged or missing, but it kept not-ejecting the hard drive. It began when I transfered a large podcast file onto the external hard drive and Finder hung on the transfer. Finder itself did not freeze up, it was simply not finishing the transfer file. I forced quit Finder and it would not come back up. I went into Terminal and typed
/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/MacOS/./Finder
and it came up. and it froze and then I typed killall finder and closed out of Terminal and re-opened it. Finder launched by itself this time with no problems... but I ran disk utility and my disk is messed up. That's it. I am going to connect the large hard drives to OS 9 only, and to transfer files off of OS X, I will use SD Cards with a USB adapter.
And in a few weeks I will buy fire wire enclosures. I hope very much that the fire wire won't have the same issues that USB has. It is plugged into USB hub now. The hub is self powered...and plugged into its own power strip. I know I shouldn't use USB hubs, but it can be difficult to have the hard drives plugged in, sync-ing an ipod, etc. all at the same time, and it annoying to have to unmount and disconnect routinely. Also...all my mp3s are stored on the external drive...so that is one reason why I had the ipod connected to the imac, and a hub connected to the imac with everything else (keyboard, mouse, and one of the USB enclosures) so I could easily have mp3s on my ipod.
But the only thing I did when it hung was transferring one (very large) podcast from internal hard drive to external hard drive.
Anyways, I have more "Computer Trauma" and do not ever want to connect external hard drives while running OS X. even with fire wire.
Also I am not going to bother moving files off of damaged directory hard drives with USB. I hope Fire Wire will be MUCH faster.

And This Is Where I Am Now:
I connected USB enclosure with the 80gb Samsung directly to an imac with OS 9 booted and I turned on the enclusurer. The volume mounted instantly. Files could be accessed instantly. I also transferred some files on it to see if it would let me or if it would display an error message. It let me put files on it.
But........
Why was it flickering for like 10 minutes???????????????
The light was flickering from green to red a lot.
Is this "Mount Check" ?????????????
I thought Mount Check turned the arrow into a watch and the clock froze until the volume could be mounted. But the volume mounted, nothing froze, but the mouse arrow was slow and choppy for a while. It has stopped flickering. The light on the enclosure is green. What was OS 9 doing?????? Mount Check????? Defragmenting????? Repairing a directory?????? =S
Also.........sometimes when I had it connected it to OS X, OS X was doing something to my hard drive. =S I don't know what, but I wanted to eject the drive and it wouldn't let me!!!!!!! }=S I did not have any applications open such as iTunes, which could have been Using the hard drive. =S
And..... since I have discarded my 120gb maxtor, and the 20gb Western Digital and a 20gb Maxtor got zapped by that Blue And White power mac g3. ... I am using a damaged 80gb seagate.
I connected it. Nothing was on it anymore. But I connected it to OS 9. I erased it, because it said "the disk could not be read". It formatted it as
40gb!!!!!!!!!
And. every time I mount it, It says "...disk could not be read...", and if I select, "Eject"...
It mounts!!!!!!!!! =S
I can store files on it. I am not going to attempt to connect it to OS X. But OS 9 mounts it, even when it is damaged.
I appreciate lots of advice.
What I have:
= 80gb samsung with a 1 that should be a 0.
= 80gb seagate with damage but os 9 formatted it as 40gb and if I select eject on the error message, it mounts it instead.
= 2 imacs. One with a os 9 startup volume, and one with a OS X startup volume. Both with OS 9 drivers. imac g3s.
= 2 USB enclosures. But I am going to get Fire Wire. and some large drives. (should I get SATA, or 2.5 inch... or do these cost more????????? )
= AC adapter USB hubs... 7 port, with LED, and connected to its own power strip. The enclosures also have their own power strips. No, the power strips are not plugged into each other.I appreciate any advice that people have.
It is possible that one of my enclosures has faulty power...something could be loose. An error message occured once while transferring files with OS 9.
I am still going to use OS 9 to move files and organize files that are in external storage because in my experiences, OS 9 is less likely to cause directory damage in the event of some power failure. -
Macbook pro - Display flickering stripes

i'm having, again, an issue with my macbook pro 17' mid 2010.
This is my story
I bought it in July 2010, it worked fine until one month after the end of the one year warranty period (shouldn't be two years in Europe?).
I don't remember if it was on sleep or power off but that day three bands appeared in the middle of the screen:
One is more or less 1cm , colored and flickering, next an half cm white one sometimes flickering with a green tone and, last, another 1 cm colored and flickering.
I called apple explaining my problem they said they cannot do anything as my warranty period was expired and they gave a contact for an authorized apple service in my area.
I went there, they asked me 50€ (living in France…) only to take in charge my mac plus, in case, additional costs.
I accepted, after one week it was repaired at no additional fees (as they were an authorized apple service I get three additional months of warranty).
I’ve asked them what was (apparently a software problem…) the problem and how they solved they answered me something like “it’s a secret”.
Mac was working, fee was acceptable , I didn’t care about the answer and I went home.
After 5/6 months problems – as usual… just after the warranty period - come out once again. I don’t remember what it did, for sure the usual PRAM reset, SMC etc. and I solved the issue by myself without paying other 50€ for “the secret”. At least I thought the problem was solved…
Past week, after one year of good behave problems appeared again restarting from sleeping… this time no way to solve the issue.
I ran all the usual tests, reset everything, reinstalled from a previous time machine , also found ASD and used it (hope no one blame me for this… as you can understand I’m little bit upset) running it several time from OS and EFI. No problem found.
External monitor through HDMI works perfectly, print screen doesn’t show the stripes… shouldn’t be an nvidia issue.
I got an appointment next week with “genius” and if they are going to run ASD they won’t find anything wrong and, reading other messages here in the board, solution will be “replace LCD or Logic Board. 600€ to the counter please.”
3000€ (when I bought it I went for I7 core… and additional ram) for a pc giving me headache after one year … is not the quality I was in habit with Apple.
Let’s see… but, before to go there do you have any suggestion on additional check I could perform? I know there was a known problem with nvidia but mid 2010 has GT330m that is not the same model apple confirms having problem (and by the way, I had no freeze. OS starts without any problems)
Additional info, mac never moves from my flat desk. I’m a kind of maniac… never had a shock, no hot temperature…
Any suggestion (even “take a long breathe and calm down” ) is more than welcome.
