Finder/ OS X UI locked up

Hi, my MacPro is operating at full tilt (CPU usage maxed out). I tried doing a little 3D modeling yesterday, but the whole UI locked up. The pointer changed to the spinning beachball and then stopped spinning. The clock stopped, the mouse pointer can still move around, but the UI doesn't respond to clicks or keyboard shortcuts.
The computer is still rendering and I can still access the shared folders from another computer so I'd like to let the machine keep working uninterrupted. Is there a way to reset the gui without restarting the whole computer and having to deal with a interrupted multi-day render?

There is a distinct possibility the cause of this issue may be
something requiring, in the least, a restart and diagnostic to
be able to find out what else is going on in the computer & OS.
{Of course, if it really is actually working on that file, then maybe
it could take some hours for it to resolve this situation. Or not.}
Check and repair the hard disk drive, perhaps even more, may
be required activities; and to do so would involve unmounting it.
If the GUI worked, you could probably quit specific items in the
Activity Monitor that were not working or behind the problem.
But that does not seem very likely, while still trying to render a file.
And it may not succeed in actually doing so, if the hard disk drive
is too full and things have ground to a stand-still.
There are some possible alternative answers, but while the Mac
is not responsive to the inputs from mouse or keyboard, those are
unlikely to work. And, as you know, the file may be damaged as it
hangs there. The reason behind all of this is where the work begins.
To find the status of the OS and the computer; and discover if there
is a co-relation between the hardware and software symptoms, and
then go about rectifying whatever the causes are behind this failure.
You will more than likely, have to restart the computer to get into it.
And then see if the booted Disk Utility on the Installer disc could help.
Good luck & happy computing!

  • My ipad mini was stolen and i have activated the find my phone to lock it. how can i get the serial number off my itunes or icloud profile? and what are the chances that the find my iphone app works when someome erases the device?

my ipad mini has been stolen and i have activated the find my iphone to lock. now it is only a wifi device so what are the chances that a person can get hold of it and log onto wifi without the password of my device to unlock. does that not make the app rather less useful as i have to hope that the person is apt enough to log onto the internet but not enough to erase it and start afresh. is it possible to find my device even afte someone has erased it?

"Losing your iPhone feels lousy. Thankfully, iCloud can help you get it back. But if it looks like that’s not going to happen, new Find My iPhone features in iOS 7 make it harder for anyone who’s not you to use or sell your device. Now turning off Find My iPhone or erasing your device requires your Apple ID and password. Find My iPhone can also continue to display a custom message, even after your device is erased. And your Apple ID and password are required before anyone can reactivate it."

  • Find user who has locked

    Hi All,
Some times when we are using the SAP system it show that a particular object has been locked .
My question is , Is there any way to find that who has locked the data i.e. can we get the computer name or some other info from which the user can be tracked .
    Regards,
    Aditya.

    Hi Aditya,
If your are looking for terminal name (Computer Name), Transaction name, SAP User Id and the time, then maybe transaction SM04 is the one which will suit you.
If you double click on the row and say " End Session ", the user will be thrown out of that transaction.
    Reward points if helpful.

  • Find My iPhone Activation Lock

    Hello,
I give my iPhone 4 to a friend, he used it for a month then he give it me back.
I make a restore, but now I'm stuck on the activation lock.
I followed the procedure described here: Find My iPhone Activation Lock: Removing a device from a previous owner’s account
    - I asked him for the password, and we removed the device from it iCloud account.
    - but the iPhone is still asking for the activation account when I try to setup the iPhone.
And the strange thing is that the account it's not a valid account (".con")
So how can I activate my iPhone 4 back???
    here the screenshot:
I have purchased this iPhone4 some years ago and I still have all the purchase informations!

My friend told me all possible account passwords and tell me that he activate the iPhone with [email protected] and not [email protected]
And I think that it is not possible to activate an iPhone with the suffix .con, because is not a recognized email address... how is this possible ?
I'm stuck in this strange situation....
    can someone help me ?
(I have all the information that this iPhone is not stolen, becauseI purchased it from an authorized reseller.)

  • HT201441 If you've found an iPod that was locked using Find My Phone/Activation Lock, and cannot contact the previous owner, is there any way to activate it still?

I came across a 5th gen iPod touch at a bus stop, and tried but cannot activate it, as it is under the Find My Phone/ Activation Lock.
Since I do not know who the previous owner is, is it possible to get around this roadblock? Or is it just no good to try?

There's no way to get around it.  Turn it into the police so they can find the rightful owner.  You won't be able to use it anyway.

Apple (and no one else) can not assist (with serial number or iCloud) in finding a lost or stolen iPad.
Report to police along with serial number. Change all your passwords.

  • Need to find out how to lock a point in a path that will not allow the rest of the path to rotate or move around it

    Hello,
I am having some trouble with using shape layers and paths to create a solid, flat 'hair' effect in a cartoon animation.
I have used a semicircle shape layer as the hair on the head itself and then a path with a stroke of the same width as the semi circle to be the long part of the hair.
Unfortunately when I move/rotate the bottom point in the path it causes gaps to appear further up where the stroke is rotating around the point at which the stroke is supposed to "connect" to the semi circle.
I have included a couple of screenshots of me rotating the hair opposite ways so you can see.
    - imgur: the simple image sharer
    - imgur: the simple image sharer
I need to find out if there is a way to lock the top point in place where it joins the semi circle blond hair which will stop this part from moving at all, even rotating around the point.
But the bottom needs to move freely and obviously the part between the two points will move fairly naturally.
If you can imagine how a girl with long hair has her hair attached to her head, it does not move at all, but the bottom moves freely. It needs to be like this.
If you can provide any assistance it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

That is perfect thank you so much!
Can't believe I didn't think of that but you da real MVP!

  • How to find out who provocates locking of SAP account?

    Hi,
we have the problem that someone obviously tries to annoy one of our SAP users

  • How to find out what user locked account

We had production type schema account locked this morning. I checked profile which this user belongs and it has 3 times for Failed Login Attempts. My question is how to find out what user had 3 unsuccessful login attempts and lock this account.
    Oracle version 8.1.7

Assuming that [auditing was enabled|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/security.htm#sthref2916], the command
AUDIT CONNECT WHENEVER NOT SUCCESSFULThat will write audit records when there is an unsuccessful login. Depending on how you've configured auditing, those records will either be written to the SYS.AUD$ table, in which case you can query them through a few different views, or to a file on the operating system that you can grep.

  • ORA-00054 - Find user who have lock

    Hi,
I'm using "select for update NOWAIT" in my application for editing records. It works but after I catch ORA-00054 I want to find username who have the lock.
The basic step is propably to query view v$lock and propably after then some else view.
    Thanks for any idea/solution
    SASA

You'll need to scroll down a while to get to your particular question in the thread I linked... I believe it's about a third of the way down.
It is not possible to know who is locking a particular row unless there are two sessions that are blocking each other. If session 1 has a lock on a particular row and session 2 requests a lock on that same row and session 2 is waiting for that lock to free up, session 3 can query the v$lock table to see which session holds the lock and which session is waiting for the lock. Assuming everyone is logging in with their own user name, you can join this information with v$session to find out the username of the person holding the lock. In your case, though, no session is ever blocked, so you cannot determine who owns the lock.

  • If a stolen iPhone was in airplane mode will a find my iPhone passcode lock apply itself when the hone is switched off of airplane mode?

My girlfriend's iPhone was stolen whilst on holiday in London. The phone was in airplane mode and didn't appear on Find My IPhone, which was installed and enabled (all set tis correct other than airplane mode). I sent a remote passcode lock to the phone.
The next day the iPhone appeared on the map, obviously having been switched on and had airplane mode switched off. My question is, will the remote lock apply immediately the phone comes back online?
I assume their only opting at that point is to do a factory restore which would wipe all the data anyway, right?
Also, can't Apple track the IMEI number regardless of a restore and a new SIM? Or the network operator that the phone was originally connected to?

This notion that is being floated around that Apple's hands are tied due to privacy and legal concerns doesn't impress me much at all. My iPad was stolen about a month ago. I have the receipt, the serial number (from my box), and the MAC address (from my home router's log). Armed with that information it's technologically feasible to track, deauthorize, and eventually recover my device. But for reasons I have been unable to ascertain Apple refuses to provide anything like this for their customers. And as their devices become increasingly smaller, more desirable, and more expensive theft of them will also increase.
But to my point about legalities and privacy concerns: whether they are true or not, it certainly doesn't stop Barnes and Noble from blacklisting their Nooks when they are reported stolen. At least, that's what I found after buying a Nook color off craigslist. When I tried to register it online it refused. When I called in to customer support they informed me that it was a stolen device. If I wanted to remove the blacklist, they explained, simply provide the last 4 digits of the credit card, the name on the receipt, and the total dollar amount of the store along with store number where the device was purchased. If I lacked any of that information, I could simply contact the store and retreive it from their records. Since I was not the original owner, however, my option was to turn the device over to the police and hope they returned it to the rightful owner.
When I explained this scenario to Apple Care he insisted the limitation was due to privacy concerns. That defies logic, however, when one considers that it's the original owner (and only through the poilce and Apple's legal department) who must report the device stolen. And, like B&N, it's the customer who is able to provide personal information to blacklist (as well as unblacklist) a device according to his or her own volition.
I've been thinking a bit about this for some time...plenty of time to think on the couch sans iPad anway...and I've been wondering why in the world does Apple not allow users to deauthorize and blacklist iDevices through iTunes itself. At that point Apple has no involvement in the process and even the barest of legalities are irrelevant. My assumption is that Jobs has thought long and hard about these issues, including my described resolution, so it begs the question as to why Apple refuses to do anything about stolen devices. I hope one day I can ask him because that is a question I would like answered more than anything: what is the rationale for the hands-offs approach to this? I can't fathom one myself but I have to guess there is one. Apple hasn't come across to me as a callous company so I'm reluctant to attribute it to that.
