Finding old itunes songs

How can I find old itunes songs on time machine? When I go to itunes it only shows me the application and a few random roots songs. Is there a way to search itunes songs on time machine? Thanks.

itunes is not integrated with finder so do a finder search for kind: music with whatever other criteria you want to specify. while in finder search window start Time Machine, scroll back in time and search that particular time point.

  • Can't find most iTunes songs?

I am running iTunes 10.1.2 on a Mac, and most of my files are invalid.
When I click on a song, a window pops up that says "the song X could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" This happens for songs I have downloaded from the iTunes store as well as albums I have downloaded off CD. I looked in Finder- Music - iTunes - iTunes Music and there are about 8 albums in there that are remaining, most of them recent downloads, one CD recently imported.
I don't have Time Machine working on this computer. My 4 year old son likes to play in iTunes and my wife decided that we have too many downloads, so she emptied the download folder in the Finder and then emptied the trash.
Please help, I don;t know where to go from here, the Apple support only got me as far as finding the iTunes Music folder.
    Thanks!

    Hmmm,
    I'd get EasyFind...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11076
Use it to search your whole drive for case insensitive & show invisibles for something like...
    .mp3
(dot em pee three) or whatever type they were.
Does that find any missing songs?
Any chance the missing ones were in the Downloads folder?

    Welcome to the forums Pete
If you go to the Store main screen, you will see on the right an option "Upgrade to iTunes Plus".

  • Getting Old Itunes song from previous Computer

My old powerbooks hard drive just crashed and the data is completely gone. I was wondering if I could get my purchased itunes songs on my new computer since the previous copies are unusable. How would I go about contacting apple to get this done.

The iTS policy is a one time d/l. You are responsible for the b/u.
There have been reports that the iTS has granted a second d/l. You can contact the iTS Customer Service via the links on this page and see if you get lucky - http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/

  • Old itunes songs only playing halfway on new computer

I used to own a 2006 macbook and now have a new windows HP laptop. When I tried to transer my itunes library to the new windows computer, all of the songs DID transfer over to the new computer from the mac, however, the songs that were purchased in 2006 under a previously used itunes account (no longer being used because of unused email address, etc. etc.) will only play halfway thorough. So I will be listening to my music and then at around, say, the 2 minute mark there is silence.....the song freezes and itunes just sits there. It wont move to the next song...it just does nothing. It's like I paused the song, but it is still technically playing. It does this on my computer as well as when I play the songs on my iphone. Does anyone have any idea about this? All of the songs that this happens to are "protected AAC audio files." No clue what that means, no clue why this is happening. Im not too computer savy (and the new itunes version isnt helping either) so I am lost on this one...and mad because I paid for these songs but now I can't listen to them!

You're supposed to transfer them from the old computer to the new one instead of redownloading them from the iTunes Store. Except for applications, Apple pays a royalty for each download and therefore usually doesn't allow free redownloads.

  • Can't find old itunes library....

I recently got the 60GB ipod after already having the mini. I then installed the new itunes program for my new ipod. Everything was going smoothly-my old library from the mini was transferable to the new ipod and i even saw the picture of some of the albums on my new ipod! Then one day i plugged in the new ipod to update it and i must have hit a wrong button or accidently reset it somehow because I lost ALL of my old library and had to start from scratch importing all of my music again. Big Bummer. I used to have 5.6 GB of music and now i only am up to 1.5 GB so i should have about 58 GB left because i lost the 5.6. However i still only have about 54 GB left. Interesting. To top it off, the pictures of the albums don't even show up anymore! Somewere my old library is lost and i need to get it back......please help.

Right/option click on the files and look for a menu entry that says Shown in... This should let you find the source playlist they are in. Alternatively SHIFT+Delete should let you delete them from iTunes directly.

  • Accessing old iTunes songs

I purchased a lot of songs on an old computer that no longer works. Is there a way I can access those tracks on my new computer, using my same username/account?

The feature described by Rysz in the post above is called 'iTunes in the Cloud' but it is not available in all countries that have the iTunes Store. If your country store does not support the ability to download previously purchased music you will need to try and recover those files from the hard drive of you old computer.
One way of doing that is to remover the hard drive from the old computer and placing it in the new one if you have additional drive bays. If you don't have additional drive bays then you need to place the old drive in an external case with a USB port on it. This will allow you to plug the old drive in to your new computer so that you can access your old files. If the old drive is damaged in some way you may need to seek the help of a service to see if the old files can be recovered from the old drive.
Here is a list of countries with iTunes stores where you can check for support of iTunes in the Cloud: iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match Availability

  • How do I find my itunes songs on my computer?

    HI,
I recently just deleted my entire itunes library. Most of my music was from cd's and I saved those files in one of my folders, but also I realized that I also had quite a bit of songs I bought from itunes. Does anyone know where on the computer music bought from itunes is saved?
When deleting all my songs I pressed "move songs to recycle bin" or something like that, if it matters.
If anyone could tell me where they would be saved, that would be great.
    Thanks!

Those songs are located in a subfolder of the folder \Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\My Music\iTunes by default, where yourname is the name of your Windows user account.

  • How do i put my old itunes song on to my new computer

my computers not new it actaully crashed but still the same idea. how would i put music from b4 my comp crashed ont my comp right now???

If you're using iTunes 7, you can copy music that you purchased from the iTunes Store back to iTunes directly. If you're not using iTunes 7 or want to copy other tracks, the easiest way will be to search VersionTracker for "iPod". You'll find a number of utilities that can transfer your tracks and your playlists from your iPod back to your PC.
It's also possible to do this manually, but the procedure is rather involved. If you're interested, though, see this thread:
    MacMuse: Computer crashed
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums, in the User Tips Library and in the Apple Knowledge Base before you post a question.
    Regards.

  • Importing old iTunes folder to new computer

I would appreciate any help with this you can give.
I have a MacBook Pro that I had four multi-user accounts on. One of them got corrupted, so that one was deleted and another account was opened. I want to get all the old iTunes songs out of the corrupted user folder and put them in the new account iTunes folder. Do I just drag the whole old iTunes folder into the Music folder of new user? ... letting it overwrite the existing iTunes folder?
If I overwrite the new iTunes folder with the old iTunes folder, will it delete whatever I downloaded in the new iTunes since, or meld the old and new together? How do I keep from deleting newer songs and still keep the iTunes library or directories, or whatever, intact?
    Thanks,
    Michael

Just copy entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer.

  • Find which country store was an iTunes song purchased from?

I found some old purchased iTunes songs on my laptop and I'm curious how can I find out which country/store that I bought them from. Since I'm an iTunes music collector so I have a lot of different iTunes accounts for many foreign stores. So I just want to ask if it's possible for me to find out which store I bought a song from. Thanks!

Which countries have you been to and purchased songs whilst you've been there ? You can view your purchase history via your computer's iTunes, that will show you the currency : See your purchase history in the iTunes Store - Apple Support.

  • Can't find iTunes songs

I recently moved my large iTunes library to an external hard drive. I followed specific instructions and everything went fine. iTunes sees all of my songs, movies, etc., and plays them. But......when I go to GarageBand, iMovie, and all of the iLife apps. for that matter, they can not see my library. If you click on a song in one of those apps, it says it can't find my iTunes library, and none of them will work.
Is there some way to show these other apps where it is ?
I hate to have to move the library back to my internal hard drive. I looked around in the GB and iMovie forums, but couldn't find anything specific about that problem. (maybe I missed it) I'm thinking, surely I'm not the only one this has happened to. I've heard of people moving their iTunes library all the time on the podcasts I listen to.
Well.......if anyone could steer me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks for your time.

    Thanks for the response Christopher,
Sorry I didn't explain that too well. Yeah, it was Apple's instructions.
All I did was move the folder that holds all of the music.
I left everything else where it was.
After I read your reply, you triggered something in my memory, and it solved the problem.
What I "forgot" to do was delete the old iTunes Music folder. So, when I went back to look , I discovered that I had my old XML file in that folder I didn't delete, and a new one (outside the old folder) that I'm assuming iTunes created when I moved my music to the new location. I'm thinking that the old XML file was causing the problems, as all of the iLife apps were using it, and there was nothing tied to it anymore. Could that have been what it was ?
Everything seems to work alright now.
