FiOS disconnecting in the afternoon
For three days in row now - my FiOS connection has dropped or been very intermittent between 5-6:30pm Pacific. I'm on the 10/2Mbps internet plan with phone service.
The first time it happened (Friday, two days ago) - I was out of town. My wife called via cell phone to report internet\phone were offline. It didn't go back online by itself. When I returned home Saturday early afternoon - I checked the OMT (the box on the side of the house) and found the Fail light was red.
After fully disconnecting\reconnecting the power to the unit (both AC and battery back-up) - the OMT reconnected. The phone service was fine at first, and then gave a busy signal after an hour, followed by working just fine.
However, at approx 5pm Pacific Saturday, the connection dropped again. Once again I looked at the OMT to find the Fail light glowing red. This time it took a few power reset attempts before the system came back online... only to be plagued with connectivity issues during the hours of 5-6:30pm. Finally on Saturday evening, all appeared to be normal. I called FiOS tech support once on Saturday... but during that brief moment, the OMT was working fine and internet\phone were online. The technician had little input
More forward about 24 hours to Sunday, 4:51pm - talking on the phone when suddenly the line drops and a busy signal comes across. I look at my Westell router and it shows Internet connection offline. I look at the OMT outside - and it shows Fail. I call FiOS support - and in the 5 minutes to get routed to a live voice, the system "fixes" itself and is back online. The technician effectively shrugs his shoulders and says - "Well, it appears to be working". He promises to place an "active monitoring" on the line...
5 minutes after hanging up with the FiOS tech - bam! - Internet\Phone are offline again, and OMT shows Fail light. I call FiOS support one more time and the technician confirms the box is offline.... but offers little input beyond that. He sees no record\entry about active monitoring, and indicates he has no clue what that might be. He suggests that my house wiring might be bad or the circuit is having issues - frankly I find that answer very misleading since the FiOS OMT has battery backup, and the battery backup has given no audio\visual indication of power failure, nor have other units on the circuit shown any indication of power failure. Plus - even if there were a power failure, phone service shouldn't be affected - that's the point of the battery backup (stated to provide up to 8 hours of phone service during a power failure) In summary - my confidence level is diminishing on the tech support.
We've had a few hot spring days here in the Portland area (high 80's... which is relatively hot for late May in this area). The OMT is on the North side of the house, which is usually in shade. However, between 5:30-6pm - depending on the exact location of the sun, the OMT is bathed in full sunlight. I suspected direct sun might be the issue - but have confirmed on both Saturday and Sunday that the failure occurred before direct sunlight on the box.
I shared this information with each technician I spoke to... and the last individual kept saying I needed to shade the box. I assured him that it's not yet in direct sunlight and failing (the last call was ~5:10pm... direct sunlight expect to hit around 5:30 or 5:40pm). After expressing my disappointment in the customer service, the technician responded unfavorably and suggested that I might be imposed fees if a house call were needed.
The problem hasn't been fixed... and I am betting the FiOS connection will drop again before sundown today... followed by more outages during the summer unless something changes.

If the fail light continually comes on at the ONT, I would ask them to replace the ONT. It sounds like bad hardware, and bad hardware at the Verizon office would be dropping everyone on the fiber plant's OLT. Not just your connection.

If the same website is opening each time you launch a browser (Safari?) hold down the shift key as you launch to prevent previous pages from opening.
Have a look at your settings in Safari > Preferences. Especially General and Privacy.
Reset Safari to remove cookies and other stored data.

My Time capsule did a backup yesterday in the morning without any problem. All of a sudden, it disconnected from the wireles system last night and the little indicator lamp turned off. It still makes a noice, as if a disc was turning inside. The Time Capsule was bought last year in June. Any suggestiom what to do? What happens if I press the little buttom (reset?), will I loose af my backup?
Do a reset.. power off the TC..
Hold in reset and power on.. keep holding in reset until it flashes rapidly.. if it turns on at all.
If you bought it in June.. take it back today.. it is broken.. at a guess.
Some Gen4 are failing this way.. get Apple to replace it.. even if it is a few days out of warranty it won't be much. -
When I first got my phone it worked perfectly fine with the wifi. Although later on I began to have problems connecting it. It will randomly disconnect from the wifi and when I try to retype the password it tells me it is wrong, although it is right. It will eventually work but in its own time, a message will pop up and allow me to type in the password and it will work. But sometimes it takes an hour or more and sometime it takes 10 minutes. I've seen where other people have had this problem but I don't know how to fix it. I'm not sure if it's an issue with my phone or if it's with my wifi. Does anyone know how to fix this?

How can I edit lightroom 5 smart previews on mac book pro (mbp) when the lightroom 5 master image files are on my external hard drive is disconnected from the mbp? So far when I try to disconnect the external HD from the mbp, I get the following pop up window: The disk "external hard drive A" couldn't be ejected because "Lightroom" is using it. Quit that application and try to eject this disk again. When I do that and restart Lightroom 5, the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom - Select Catalog screen pops up but doesn't list my external hard drive A as a choice.
I've reviewed Adobe's Lightroom Help | Smart Previews Lightroom 5 web page and still haven't been able to figure what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.Your internal HDD. by default, is named 'Macintosh HD'. From what information you supplied, it looks like there is already a Lightroom catalog installed on you local (internal) HDD using the standard naming convention Adobe uses as well as a Lightroom catalog on your external drive which you created. To be sure of which catalog Lightroom is loading when it starts up, To do this, start Lightroom as you normally would. After it starts, select the Lightroom menu item, then select the Catalog Preferences item and finally, navigate to the General tab. The Location information will tell you exactly what catalog Lightroom is opening by default. This will likely be the Photography Mac Book Pro Versions catalog on your external HDD. Once that is confirmed, you are ready to proceed. As an additional test/verification, you can shut down Lightroom and, this time, start Lightroom while holding down the ALT/OPTION key. This will cause Lightroom to pause and display a screen which will allow you to chose a different catalog to open. Navigate to the /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder and select the Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat file. When Lightroom comes up, there should be no previews or folders as this catalog should be empty. Now you can be certain which catalog is being used and which catalog has all your data and you are ready to migrate your current catalog. Shut down Lightroom.
To migrate your current catalog, use Finder to locate your Photography Mac Book Pro Versions folder on your external drive. Select the folder and select COPY from the context menu. Next, use Finder to navigate to the /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder on you internal HDD. You can start at the Macintosh HD level and work your way down by opening each level (Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures). Select the /Pictures folder and then select PASTE... from the context menu. When the COPY/PASTE is complete, you should see the following files on the Macintosh HD:
Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom/ and
Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions
The Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder will contain the empty default catalog the Adobe created when Lightroom was installed and Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions will contain a copy of the catalog you created on your external HDD.
You are almost done now. Make sure your external drive is still attached for this step. Restart Lightroom using the ALT/OPTION key again. When the Select Catalog screen appears, select the Choose a Different Catalog button (lower left side). When you do, a Finder window will open to allow you to navigate to a catalog of your choosing. Navigate to Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions and select the file Photography Mac Book Pro Version.lrcat. This is the copy you just created. Select the Open button and Lightroom should start. You should see all of your previews and settings just as before. Also, in the left hand panel, all of your folder should show up and none of them should be dimmed and none of your previews should display a small exclamation point badge. Either a dimmed folder name or an exclamation point badge indicates that Lightroom can't find the associated image file. If everything looks good, go to the Lightroom menu, select Preferences and then select the General tab. Under Default Catalog, select an option to either load the LAST catalog opened or select the Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions catalog from the drop down. Shut down Lightroom and then restart it normally. This time, when Lightroom starts, you should be viewing the new copy of your catalog. You can confirm this by looking at the General tab on the Catalog Preferences screen (Lightroom/Catalog Preferences menu items). Shut down Lightroom once again and this time, eject your external drive before restarting. This time, your folders in the left hand panel will be dimmed but you should be able to work with your smart previews. If Lightroom should display a Select Catalog screen with the external drive detached, double check your settings as it indicates Lightroom is still looking at the copy of the catalog on the external drive rather than the new copy you made.
Finally, if you are seeing dimmed folders and/or exclamation point badges with the external drive attached, this indicates a problem. You can select any folder and select Update Folder Location from the context menu. This will allow you to navigate to the copy on the external drive and select it. Lightroom will then update the catalog (select to synchronize the content). This will not only clear the dimmed folder problem but also remove the exclamation point badges for all photos in that missing folder. However, it may indicate that not all went well with the copy of the catalog so make sure to verify all went well. You can use the Get Info option on the two folders. You should see the same number of files/folders for both the copy on the internal drive as well as on the external drive but you can't rely on the byte count because of the possibility of differences between the geometry of the two drives. Help! isight doesn't work in the morning, but work in the afternoon...
Hi everyone, I am almost mad with my isight.....I found when I start the laptop in the morning, it doesn't work, it shows"there is no connected camera". But I keep using the laptop for several hours until the afternoon, then I open the isight, it turns out working as normal.....as long as I restarted, it doesn't work again, until waiting for several hours.....I tested these for several days....so strange.
I tried all the ways mentioned in the "troublesome isight", none of them work. Should I reinstalled the systems or send it to the technical support?

Restart your Mac and try the PMU/SMC reset one more time. If properly resetting your SMC does not resolve your problem, I think your problem you describe is a hardware one that will require professional service by your Apple-Authorized Service Provider.
You could try reinstalling Snow Leopard and applying the 10.6.4 Combo Update, but I do not believe that either could resolve the problem you describe.
*Be sure to backup all your important data files immediately before sending or taking your Mac for service*. When you retrieve your Mac after the work is complete, ask the AASP to show you that the camera is working before you leave the store.

40gb Ipod says "do not disconnect" all the time... please help!
My 40gb ipod just says do not disconnect all the time when it is connected to my pc. itunes says the update is complete and my computer is recognising the ipod.

I have a 1TB WD external hard disk, which suddenly cannot be detected in my system. When i connect the hardisk to the macbook, the disk appears and immediately disconnects with the message "Disk not properly ejected". Any advice ?
verify on another Mac if the same
WD is having issues with mavericks as you can see on the WD forum, did you install any WD software (never do that) when you connected the drive for the first time?
possible issue is a dead SATA bridge card or the new WD firmware w/ Mavericks.

my apple tv is disconnected from the wifi intermittently, the problem is not the wifi as it only happens to the apple tv. that I can do to fix this problem.-
That doesn't rule out a network issue, as it can impact devices differently. Intermittent issues are most often related to wifi issues. Try connecting via ethernet. Go to istumbler, netstumbler or similar to get a report of the network, look for signal strength and noise.

Error 9 pops up when trying to restore Ipod 5. The problem seems to be that my ipod disconnects during the restore process. My ipod is stuck in restore mode so I can't access its update serever. I have already updated my pc and its security settings. Is there anything else i can try?

Usb3 drive disconnecting all the time at a usb 3 port on my macbook pro
i just bought the new macbook pro 13 inch and i was into some point tricked because the salesman from apple assured me that the laptop would be shipped with mountain lion and i could do the upgrade for free for maverick. so when i recieved the computer i found out that it actually came with maverick intalled and after talking to an apple customer support he said i could not go back to mountain lion. so most of my software are damaged according to the new system and it simply doesnt let me open many apps i just installed.
so now i have another bigger problem. everythime i connect a usb 3 HD into my new macbook, the HD gets disconnected. i used already 3 diferent drives and tried at least 3 diferent cables but the problem persists. Note that it never happenned with a usb2 port. is anyone having the same problem?
at this point i am pretty upset with the company alltogether. i had purchased at least 30 macs and i never had any sort of problems till now.I just got a new IMAC and experienced the same issue with a RAID 10 array with 4 drives spontaneously disconnecting in the middle of a data transfer with the message "you should eject disk properly, etc. etc." message.
As many others I tried all the obvious solutions. Different cables, different drives, etc. Then I read something about radio wave interference from wireless keyboards. Well, I don't have wireless keyboards or mice (don't like them) but still, it stuck in the back of my mind.
I did find that a USB 2.0 cable with noise suppression dongles at each end worked just fine, if a bit slowly. Anyway, I found an old set of ferrite couplings that were made for video cables back in the day and placed one set at each end of the USB 3 cable. I then moved my RAID array as far from the computer as possible and plugged it all back in. The problem has not reoccurred even with the transfer of very large folders of files from a networked PC RAID.
Just a thought but it seems to have worked for me although the fact that this sort of thing is necessary does not speak well for Apple. -
When I sync my iPhone5 with my Macbook Pro I get the following message "iTunes could not sync calendars to the iPhone because the iPhone disconnected". The strange this is that the phone did not disconnect because it sync my contacts and is charging.

Hello. I am using a ZTE 3G modem. Whenever I connect to internet, Sometimes during browsing or downloading it disconnects with the error message, "You were disconnected by the PPP server. Try reconnecting." There is no problem with the modem. Last few months, I have used it with Mac OS X Mavericks. There was no problem. Some days ago, I downgrade to Mac OS X 10.8.3, because I was fed up with different bugs in 10.9. Anyway, the first two days the connection were fine. But, after that, The problem began from no where. I tryed everything i could, but, It didn't help.
