Firefox 29 sync hung "determining your account status"

As question states. Have installed Firefox 29. Have tried to log into Sync service but just getting it permanently hung on "determining your account status". I've tried shutting down and restarting browser to no avail. I am guessing that data in the user profile is corrupt somehow. but what might it be?
If your only suggestion is to wipe out and recreate the user profile in question, I will be taking steps to abandon Firefox. This seems to be the default solution to every technical problem and it is an irritating bore and not acceptable any more.
I can't believe the trouble I had to go to to just even post this question. There isn't even a simple, plain, straight-forward way to register for the support forum. You have to GUESS that you have to start composing your enquiry before you are even given the chance to register to post it. What witless individual dreamt that up as a simple solution?

I ran into this issue where I made a new sync account with one computer and then tried to move Firefox on another computer, and it went and sat there on the sync pref pane saying "determining your account status"
After tooling around for a while and not finding an answer online I decided to dig into the file that firefox uses for storing preferences. The steps below worked for me on my Mac and I think I figured out how to do it in Windows as well using my XP Virtual Machine.
'''On Mac OS X:'''
Quit Firefox
in finder choose 'Go To Folder...' under the 'Go' menu. put in the following path:
~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/
click 'Go'
Then open the folder in that directory.
In this folder there will be a file named prefs.js
open it in a text editor.
Find lines that start out with:
user_pref("services.sync.
These lines should be all together.
Select all the lines that start out with this and delete them from the file.
Save the file.
reopen Firefox and try accessing the sync preference pane as before. This worked for me.
'''On Windows:'''
Close all Firefox windows
Using Run from the Start menu, enter the following and hit enter:
%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
Then open the folder in that directory.
In this folder there will be a file named prefs.js
Right-click and choose edit from the menu to open in note pad.
Find lines that start out with:
user_pref("services.sync.
These lines should be all together.
Select all the lines that start out with this and delete them from the file.
Save the file.
Reopen Firefox and try accessing the Sync Preference pane again.

  • If not possible to change, can i keep my email for firefox sync if that email account is closing down by its provider?

i have just figured out after searching, that it is not possible to change my email for my firefox sync.
it is already a nightmare for me that nokia email provider just simply closes down my account which i use for EVERYTHING in my life...
i have somany account to change the email in it, but firefox sync doesn't allow me to do that.
i really don't want to lose any details of my mozilla settings, so will it be possible to keep it with a non-existing email?
or is there a way to open a new account with a new email and merge my settings to it?

Doesn't sound like you are using Firefox Sync for its intended purpose. Plus, it sounds like you ''might'' be leaving your Sync data "all over the place" - using Sync on computers owned by strangers.
Sync doesn't just "use" your Firefox data in real-time from the Sync server, it '''''downloads''''' your data to each device that you connect to your Sync account. That data remains on each device until it is removed manually. And if you didn't "unlink / disconnect" that computer when you were done using it, Sync will stay connected to your Sync account until the "owner" of that device gets tired of seeing "his data" get changed as your data changes. Plus, unless you manually remove your Sync username and password data from the Password Manager, that other person might be able to re-connect to your Sync account at will.
Of course, the risks you are taking by doing that depend upon which types of data you fed to Sync in the beginning. Hopefully at least not Passwords.''
IMO, you would be better off carrying a USB stick around with a copy of Firefox Portable to use on Windows computers that you don't own or don't have exclusive control over. Sync will work between "Portable" and regular Firefox, even when they're both being used on the same device, at the same time.
That will "fix" two things - it will give you a 2nd "device" ''[even when plugged into your own computer]'' and it will allow you to use your own Firefox installation on on another persons computer without "sharing" your Sync data with that other person, where such is allowed by "permissions set on that device''. Nothing that you do will appear on any device that the USB stick is plugged into, at least as far as Firefox is concerned. That applies to any "loaner" computer that you might use, too.
    http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable
As far as setting up a new Sync account goes, your data is in Firefox ''[even when it is in Sync, too]'' - so just "disconnect" from your current account, and then set up a new new account. At the end of the setup procedure the Sync service will automatically "Sync" your data to the new account, and you'll be "good to go".
I highly encourage you to do the Firefox Portable on USB stick as I mentioned above, because it sounds like the way that you have been using Sync sounds very risky with your data. Once your data gets Sync'd to another persons computer its "meshes" with their data and is all but impossible to remove completely - unless the person set up a Logon User Account specifically for you and then deleted that LUA after you were done.'' Doubtful, because from what I have seen the "average" PC owner has no concept of what a Logon User Account is all about.
In conclusion, ''tell me that you weren't sync'ing your Password data''.

  • Firefox sync: Cannot access my account on a different computer

I upgraded my work laptop. For security reasons, I uninstalled FF on old laptop. Now, while setting up FF Sync on new laptop, it asked me for account information.
As I setup account months ago, I don't remember anything. I tried resetting my password, but the Username/Password comobo is not matching. I tried looking for an option to have my Username sent to registered email address, but that does not seem to be an option (wierd?).
I am stuck. Is there a way out of this sanctum ?
    Thanks for any lead.

The information that you really need is the '''Sync Key''', which isn't stored by Mozilla, for your security. The only place the Sync Key resides is on the PC's that are set up for the Firefox Sync service, and maybe where you keep track of your passwords off your PC's. You might be able to access your Sync storage space if would remember your username / email address that was used to setup your account and you password, '''but''' without your Sync Key your data on the Sync server is useless. The Sync Key is the "key" for encryption to the server and back to your PC's.

  • Firefox Sync (Weave) 1.4b2 removes status bar icon

After updating Sync to 1.4b2 the status bar icon is removed. This is annoying as i use a third party password manager.
Why has it been removed or where to ask for Sync support?
Please help, Sync is a life-saver!
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I updated to 1.4b2

v1.3 was perfect, v1.4 is a disaster... please bring back the icon... Since I upgraded to v1.4, I do not know if things have been sync'ed and it should be done automatically, not manually like in v1.4. I have gone back to v1.3... and I have to do this to all my computers... please ask the users before making any changes, if you really care about the users who use this.

So all my other devices have joined the new sync easily, but my main device has been stuck displaying the 'Sign in to access sync' item in the drop down menu, and 'Determining your account status' in the sync tab in the options menu for hours now. Despite being the pc i actually created the account on in the first place.

I saw this in my googling.  Listed as the cause on the hotfix page is the following: "This
problem occurs because the Ipmiprv.dll module leads the Wmiprvse.exe process to crash. This behavior depends on certain hardware sensor types when the sensor is enumerated."  The
faulting module for that hotfix is ipmiprv.dll, and our faulting module is ntdll.dll.  I'm thinking that this hotfix isn't applicable, but I'm open to hearing why I'm incorrect if I am.

  • I deleted my Firefox Sync account at one point, but would like to create a new one using the same email address. Is this possible?

I had a Firefox Sync account a while back on an email address and then I deleted it. Now I want to use Firefox Sync again. I had forgotten that I deleted my account, but after trying to send password reset emails to that address and failing to receive them I can only conclude that the email is still on record in Firefox Sync, even if the account has been deleted.
Is it possible for me to set up a new account using this email address? Trying to set it up through Firefox tells me that the email address is in use, when from my point of view it is not.

Strangely enough, sending the email from account.services.mozilla.com did the trick this time! Thanks.

hello, for the old sync system in firefox 28 and below you also had to sign up with a mail address and password originally - to connect firefox to the old account you would need to have all those three pieces (mail, password & recovery key) available to you unfortunately...

  • I had saved all my bookmarks using firefox sync. Now i changed the OS and trying to get the bookmarks . how can i do this

i had change my operating system. so the bookmarks which i had in firefox i saved using firefox sync by creaating the account. Now i have changed my operating system but no idea how to get back those bookmarks on the same laptop. cani do that? is there any solution for this

    Add another computer
Do these steps on the computer you are trying to add to Firefox Sync.
At the top of the Firefox window, click the Firefox button and select Set Up Sync. The Firefox Sync Setup window will open.
    Click I Have an Account.
Since you're not near the device with Sync already set up, click the I don't have the device with me link.
Sign in to your Sync account:
    Enter your account email address
    Enter your password
    Enter your Recovery Key
    Then click Next
You will see a Setup Complete screen. Click Finish to complete adding this device to your Sync account.

  • I enter the code and it returns me to Firefox Sync again

I want to sync my desktop to my new laptop. I entered the code both ways, desktop to laptop and laptop to desktop, enter, then the original Firefox Sync page comes back up.
Directions say "See Where can I find the code to add a device to Firefox Sync? for more information" This is nowhere to be found.
    HELP!!

hello, does this article help: [[How do I set up Firefox Sync?]]
basically you first have to set up a sync account (with mail address and password) at one computer (let's say your desktop).
as soon as you've done that, switch to your laptop, in options > sync click "set up firefox sync" & "i have an account" in the next step. then go back to your desktop & in options > sync click on "pair a device" and enter the 3x4 digit code that is shown on your laptop & confirm. this should do it...

  • How do you keep Firefox Sync connected?

Firefox Sync says, "Be sure to leave Firefox Sync connected so your data will automatically sync every day," but there are no instructions on how to stay connected.
There is no explanation as to how you would become "unconnected" so I don't know what I should do to avoid that. Would someone explain this to me?
    Thank you.

I have set up Sync. Perhaps the wording on the page that appears after you set it up was not carefully thought out when it was written. The phrase "leave Firefox Sync connected" implies that it can become unconnected. If that is possible, what do I do to prevent that from happening?

  • Account status:

Hi  I have a message that says : You are currently restricted from purchasing services or redeeming vouchers. Please contact Customer Support to review your account status. How do I get this reviewed and need support please thanks in advance

    hi suchita,
If you need to maintain only status then i will suggest you to maintain dropdown of filed added by eewb on BuilHeader.
Other wise you need to create your own bol object under CRM> cross app comp> genil> componet specific settings>simple object and extend object model for business partner.
You need to define object status profile and give key and structure. Since no documentation is available, it was taking lot of time to understand. It sometimes gave dump as well. So my suggestion would be to adapt first approach.

  • Deleted my firefox sync account and now can't get back in.

I recently upgraded to firefox 12 which appeared to break my firefox sync and would not allow me to re-pair my PC or any other devices to my account. In order to try fix the problem, I decided to delete my account. Having done this, I created a new sync account from firefox on my PC using the same email address as I had used in my previously deleted sync account.
This appeared to work alright and so I tried to pair my iPhone (using firefox home) to this new sync account. I used the passcode firefox home gave me and according to firefox on my PC, the sync was successful. However, a minute late, my iPhone came up with the error message "Login Failure: Unable to communicate with server (503)".
I then tried to log in to the firefox sync website with my email address, (https://account.services.mozilla.com/), and got the message "We were unable to log you in". I then clicked on the Forget your password link and entered my email address and got another error message "Unable to locate account. Please check username"!
It would appear that deleting my account and creating a new one with the same email address has stuff everything up? I don't want to have to use a different email address.

Yes, I was thinking it could have just been a glitch in the system.

  • Can I delete my old Firefox sync account if I have a new one which uses the same email address?

    Hello,
I have unlinked all my devices from an old sync account and setup a new sync. In this process I have used the same email address as before.
I have no use of my old sync account, therefore the question is:
Can I delete the old sync account (via https://account.services.mozilla.com/ ) and - implicitly - all data associated with it without affecting my new Firefox account (and its data) in any way?
    Thank you!

Yes you can https://services.mozilla.com/delete-account/ and put in your username and password, and hit permanently delete your account. I personally wouldn't you never know if you may need it in the future.

  • I deleted my Firefox Sync Account. How can I set up a new account on the same device?

Now, when I open Firefox, and go to Tools, there is only the option to "Sync Now," rather than the option to "Set Up Sync." My account is definitely deleted, b/c Sync replies "Unable to locate your account" if I try to sync. How do I set up a new Sync Account on this same device? Thanks.

    karenbee,
Here's the solution for PCs: Tools>Options, then click Sync in the Options window. Good luck.
