Firefox 3.6.12 wouldn't open after I did nov. 1, 2001 restore. Why

Firefox was working wonderfully for a long time.
Unclear why it wouldn't open. I even downloaded it gagin and run it, but none helps.

If Firefox works in [[Safe Mode]], try [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]].

  • Firefox 6.0.1 doesn't open after upgrade from 3.6.8

I've been running FF 3.6.8 since, well, forever.
Today I installed 6.0.1 and everything seemed fine. When I ran 6, however, it never loaded. After a minute, I killed in the process table; I notice that there was another firefox process running, so I killed it, too. For good measure, I rebooted.
6.0.1 now just hangs--it's outer container doesn't even appear; there's a Firefox process, though.
After goof around for a a while, I installed 3.6.8 again and it came up immediately--apparently no worse for the wear.
    What's going on?

Do you mean that the report works, but all test is unreadable? If so, it is because the font size is set to '+0' and IE doesn't understand it. Netscape does.
To make it work in IE,
With some help from Oracle, I fixed the font problem in IE:
    1. From the Portal Object Navigator, click on the Applications tab.
    2. The report is not directly viewable. In the "Find" box, type %search%
    3. Edit SEARCH_RESULT (owned by wwv_system)
    4. Click the "Display Options" tab
    5. Under both the "Full Page Options" and "Portlet Options", enter a value (10, 12) for the "Size" for "Row Text"
    6. Click OK

  • Why does my firefox 9.0.1 occasionlly stay open after I have closed it and it's not displayed on my monitor?

I still use Win XP sp 3. My firefox browser doesn't do it very much. I will have everything else closed out except my firefox. I'm not doing anything differently than should be done to finish. I will click the X to close. Then, I want to go right back into firefox and what happens next is the point I'm talking about. When I click my desktop icon, a box comes up that says, "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. You must first close the existing firefox process or restart your system." The problem being, is that there is nothing on my screen but my desttop.

Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    * You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."''
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

  • FCE 3.5 wouldn't open after installing Security Update 2008-007

Installed the update from Software Update like a good little girl, then couldn't open FCE, which is my main reason for owning the Mac. Don't remember the details. After it dawned on me that the update or my simpleminded approach to installing it was probably the cause of the malfunction, I rebooted from my Carbon Copy Clone, first time ever for real. After everything was demonstrably back to what passes for normal, I sent CCC another $25 to celebrate!
Now I have checked for updates and SU 2008-007 is still sitting there but I am afraid to try it again. How was I supposed to know about doing disc repairs and god knows what-all else before & after? And what else don't I know that will skunk me? Looks like there have been a number of problems on this forum traceable to SU 2008-007. Kind of like dear old Service Pack 2 on the PC...
What's the downside of NEVER installing the update? Or can somebody clarify for me how to do it safely?
    Thanks,
    Sharron

    Hi Sharronuss,
Let me give you my full method...
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.
The combo update for PowerPC-based Macs...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateppc.html
The combo update for Intel-based Macs...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateintel.html
Repair Permissions before & after re-install, then reboot again each time.
If all the above do not resolve the problem, then it's time for an Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.

  • My new version of Firefox crashes as soon as it opens, even in safe mode, at the 'restore session' page. How can I get that session back?

I updated to the newest version of Firefox and restarted the internet. When it reopened the browser, it had the 'about session restore' tab open, but when I clicked on it, it crashed. I've restarted the computer three times to no avail.
The browser opens, then says 'Not Responding' before you can click on anything, then crashes.
The Mozilla Crash Reporter appears, and I click to restart (or quit - same results) then it suggests to open in safe mode, which I do, but the same thing happens repeatedly and I get nowhere.
It wasn't even generating a crash report but finally one went through to my email: bp-0a80049a-6643-452d-b3b2-d8c622130823.
I want to restore my previous version, as I had tabs open that I need to go back to.
Could you please advise me how to proceed?
    Thank you.

I don't have a good sense of what is going wrong.
Was Firefox stable in step 3 -- open with no sessionstore.js file and then exit?
If that was stable, it might be easiest to cull the open URLs from your sessionstore.js file and re-open the most important ones manually. You will lose the ''detail'' of your session on those pages (e.g., data you had entered into a form), but if that's okay, it might be the next step.
I found a script on mozillaZine that will extract URLs from the sessionstore.js file; I just changed the formatting of the output. To run the script:
    (1) Return to your profile folder and rename sessionstore.js to sessionstore.old again, then copy it to a convenient location
    (2) Start Firefox (it should be in a new session)
    (3) Open the following link, select all (Ctrl+a), copy (Ctrl+c) to copy the script to the clipboard: http://dev.jeffersonscher.com/sessionstore_reader.txt
    (4) Open the <s>Error Console</s> <u>Browser Console</u> (Ctrl+Shift+j), click next to <s>Code</s> <u>the caret (>>)</u> and paste, then press Enter <s>or click Evaluate</s>
    (5) A file selection window should appear. Navigate to the convenient location and open sessionstore.old from there.
    (6) As long as the file is not corrupted, a new tab should open with a list of all the URLs the script found in the file. You can save this page for future reference if desired. Also, you can close the <s>Error</s> <u>Browser</u> Console now.

  • CS5 Not Opening after OS X Reinstall

I bought my copy of CS5 Design Standard way back in 2010.
The apps have been working wonderfully until this summer when they no longer opened after I did a reinstall of OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4).
I have done reinstalls before Mountain Lion and have never had an issue using the apps. I'm unaware if I have committed some grave mistake on this occassion (unauthorizing each app for example???).
After the reinstall, I was able to use all programs except Illustrator which would close after the splash screen. After a while, none of the programs would open at all and the splash screens were gone.
I've done a good amount of research and tried digging into the library folders, deleting preferences, uninstalling and reinstalling, but nothing has been successful.
What's strange to me is that I'm able to run Creative Cloud perfectly fine. What's also strange is that CS6's demo version also functions well except Illustrator crashes.
Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You will have to provide crash logs and other details. Most likely the licensing system simply is bombed due to an invalid signature/ key stored on your harddrive from the previous installs. Look into this:
Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
Running as root may allow you to overwrite the old stuff and produce a valid activation. Naturally also check your user privileges and file permissions - outdated info would effectively make some files belong to no one and block them completely...

  • Firefox won't open after

My computer was running slow after my grandchild was on it while I was on vac
So I restored to the date of July 20, 2013
When it rebooted I tried to get on the Internet and Firefox wouldn't open
A little box came up which read
    Couldn't load XCOM
    Internet explorer would open either
    What do I do now
I have an I phone but I really use my desk top a lot

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 23: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

  • How to stop tabs re-opening after firefox crashes.........when it crashes and I have multiple tabs open, when re-starting firefox all of the tabs re-open too. How can I stop this?

Firefox crashes quite often, especially when I have multi tabs open. I usually have to use CTRL ALT DEL and end the process as Firefox stops responding.
My problem is not the crashing........it is the re-opening of the multiple tabs I had open, when normally it is one of them (not the home page) that caused the crash in the first place, so I cannot re-open firefox until I restart the pc, because every time I do it is the same story. Firefox tries to re-open all of the tabs and stops responding. I have looked in options but nowhere does it allow me to stop multiple tabs opening after a crash. If this continues, I will have to uninstall Firefox and stick to Chrome.

Set the pref browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes to 0 on the about:config page to get the about:sessionrestore page immediately with the first restart after a crash has occurred or the Task Manager was used to close Firefox.
That will allow you to deselect the tab(s) that you do not want to reopen, but will allow to reopen other tabs.
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Session_Restore#Restoring_a_session_after_a_crash
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

  • After installing Firefox 5.0 and attempting to open the browser I get: Error: Platform Version '2.0.1' is not compatible with MinVersion = 5.0 MaxVersion = 5.0 At the top of the message is Yul Runner

Above the message in the border was XULRunner

That can happen if the updater wasn't able to update (replace) all the files in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
