Firefox download fails if interrupted

My computer is far from my router, so it disconnects frequently for short periods of time. When downloading files, if I notice that I have disconnected before Firefox does, I pause the download, and continue it when I reconnect. However, if I do not, it gives the message: "", and am forced to redo the download from the beginning. A similar issue was addressed in this ticket ([https://support.mozilla.org/questions/913829]). I will try this solution next time the error occurs, but I believe that firefox should integrate a retry mechanism (or at least, button) at this stage for the user to select once the internet connection has been re-established, to continue downloading from the point reached before disconnection (as pausing before firefox gives this error does not interrupt the download).

Your first step should be to update Firefox, [[Update Firefox to the latest version]]. There are known bugs in the older versions of Firefox that are fixed in the most recent version.
You may be able to find an add-on to improve the download process at [http://addons.mozilla.org addons.mozilla.org]

  • Windows 7 and firefox download fails

download drivers using firefox get C;\users\appdata\local\temp\lj1018-hb-pnp-win64-en-15.exe could not be opened because an unknown error occurred. Try saving to disk first then open file. There is no option in the dialog to allow me to save to disk. This works fine when using IE.

You have Firefox configured to save files to a permanent folder probably. You can change it in Tools | Options | General. Checkmark "Always ask me where to save files". There's a picture of it in this article: [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Options%20window%20-%20General%20panel?as=u General options]
Could you also go to Tools | Add-ons | Plugins and disable the '''WildTangent '''plugin. it may not necessarily be the cause of the problem, but it's not helpful either. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WildTangent#Criticism

  • How can I get Instant notification if a download fails, instead of sifting through the whole library later looking for a fail message

sometimes I download hundreds of articles, pdf's, videos etc at one sitting, and cannot stop to watch whether or not some few of the items "fail" to completely download. Later, when scrolling down the whole list of recent downloads in the library I try to squint and see the tiny words notifying of a failed download but it is easy to miss the warning plus when there are hundreds of items it is VERY time-consuming to double click each item to attempt a re-download . . it usually DOES re-download ok BUT selecting this process sends the cursor back to the top of the library listings and now it takes forever to find your place back in the area where there were several "fails" listed together to continue the correction process for the whole list. Would be SO VERY MUCH better if and when a particular download fails, that a pop up window message would alert to that fact and a simple click within said window would automatically re-start the download, etc. That way a vital article would not later be discovered to have no content or error message, etc, just when one needed it and perhaps was not able to go online to fix it.

You can run this code in the Browser Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) to add a tooltip to the icon of each item in that list.
You probably need to scroll the full list to make Firefox update all attributes and you need to rerun the code in the browser console via cursor Up and Enter to update all tooltips after having done a new download.
If you run the code then you get a pop-up that shows some information of all selected items (Ctrl click multiple items).
You can open the Browser Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer).
Paste the JavaScript code in the command line and press the Enter key to run the code.

Open the Java pane in System Preferences. A separate application will launch. In the Security tab, check the box marked
Enable Java content in the browser
If necessary, adjust the Security Level slider, but if you must reduce the level, do so only temporarily and only if you are absolutely sure of what you're doing. Don't do this to play a game or because a stranger on the Internet asked you to. Java can be dangerous.
If your browser is Safari, you may also need to make changes to the plugin settings in the Security tab of its preferences window.

with a phisical machine and a virtual machine ( workstation ) and  both failed, the sccm is a virtual machine running in a hyper-v server, i created a vm in the same hyper-v in miami and finished sucessfully , i checked the firewall , antivirus they are

80072efe = "The connection with the server was terminated abnormally"
This is a winhttp error meaning it was issued by the client because of a failure to communicate with IIS. Ultimately, this means that "something" interrupted the session. What that "something" is is outside the control or visibility of
ConfigMgr and is most likely network related.
Setting the two task sequence variables is a possible solution (of course make sure you are using SMSTSDownloadRetryCount and SMSTSDownloadRetryDelay with no spaces) for a known timing issue in the task sequence engine.
FInally, allowing anonymous client connections is not recommended and is not needed.
    Jason | http://blog.configmgrftw.com | @jasonsandys
thanks for reply yes the variables that i am using are with no space,   when you state a "failure to communicate with the IIS " you are talking about the IIS of the local DP or the SCCM ? also i going to double check the network .

  • Thank you for the virus included in the Mozzella Firefox Download it shows you really care. "\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\fajy3yg3.default\Cache\2\1A\D0454d01"

a free download from your websiter

Let me guess you used a antivirus scanner to scan the computer and it found something in the harmless Cache and made you think you were infected.
This is not a Firefox browser failing or Mozilla's doing. The Cache well caches things as you browse the the internet. Also Mozilla has never included any form of virus, trojan maleware or such in a Firefox download as otherwise it would have been all over various tech news then.
The Cache is not vulnerable like the IE temp files can be as viruses and trojans and such are completely harmless while sitting in Cache until either you clear or delete the Cache or it gets bumped out as Cache continues to Cache stuff.
Just clear the Cache and scan again.

The server is failing to download some updates.
This error is happening everyday. Please advise for a fix.
If this is happening on an UPSTREAM server it is because you have approved updates that are no longer available from Microsoft. Almost always this involves approvals of *EXPIRED* updates (which have been pulled from the catalog and cannot be downloaded).
If this is happening on a DOWNSTREAM server it's because something/someone deleted the files from the upstream server. It can also happen if the entire upstream ~\WSUSContent folder has gone amuk.
For an upstream server, find the expired updates, remove the approvals, cancel the downloads, and then decline the updates.
For a downstream server, figure out what the affected updates are and fix the upstream server.

  • Zzxc: I am having problems with Firefox and a Google gadget score board on my Google home page. Every time I go to my Google homepage, a file called "scores.htm" downloads into my Firefox download. I can have at least 50 of those files downloaded over t

You have chosen to open “scores.htm”
What should Firefox do with this file?
-Open with: Firefox (default), or other
    -Save file?
Do this automatically for the files like this one.
I chose cancel and when I rebooted the Google page the same window came up.
I don’t want to open with or it will open with something every time I come back to Google.
The best option until this is resolved is to “Save File” and that continues to down load into the “Download Firefox” folder.

When I go to my Google page with the sport scores gadget on, Firefox download, in the downloads window a file "scores.htm" everytime. Consequently I have 10's if not 100's over time of scores(1), (2)(3).htm respectively. How do I stop it?

  • Firefox 12 failed to restore my previous session!

    Hi there!
Well, last night I shut down my computer from the Start menu in Vista. I believe I had closed Firefox manually before I proceeded with the shut down. I don't think it has anything to do with the way you exit Firefox, but I'm just saying it.
I usually have several tabs open in Firefox, this time I had about 50 of them and every time I close Firefox it prompts me if I want to save the tabs. I don't think this is a default setting, I think I set this up myself. So I just click the option which saves my tabs so that the next time I start Firefox I can continue where I left off.
I believe I clicked the save button last night as well. But today I started up Firefox and the tabs were gone.
I did follow the procedure for restoring the last session as described here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firefox%20does%20not%20ask%20to%20save%20tabs%20and%20windows%20on%20exit?s=Firefox+12+failed+to+restore+previous+session%21&r=1&e=es&as=s
But the thing is I don't have the option to restore last session when I go to Firefox button and History.
Also, I have started and closed Firefox since that several times. So this restore option might only just restore the last tab I closed anyway. As described...
''If you close each window or tab, only the final window or tab that you closed will be available when you restart Firefox.''
Why did Firefox forget to restore my tabs?...
This happened to me once before but I don't remember how I restored the tabs.
And also, it happened once that Firefox failed to prompt me if I want to save my tabs, and instead prompted me with a whole different dialog, the one where it warns me that I'm about to close all open tabs and asks me to confirm.
There was no way around it so I intentionally ''crashed'' the computer, knowing that once I log on to Windows and start Firefox again it will restore my tabs automatically whether it wants to or not. And, of course, this proved to be true, all my tabs were back.
But did I really have to ''crash'' my comptuer for this? Maybe I could have crashed only the Firefox by terminating it's process... but it works either way. One time it asks, one time it doesn't ask to save tabs. Completely disregarding the settings! There is something seriously wrong here!
After that first incident I was again able to save my tabs on exit, it always asked me to save them from that point on, as I would expect it to. Until now...
Now it asks me if I ''want to'' save my tabs, and I say ''yes please'', just to find out the next morning it didn't restore them, as if they never were saved. Haha! LOL! Ridiculous! Haha, that Firefox 12! :) What a clown!
As mutch as this is a call for help in restoring those tabs, it is also a reminder to Firefox developers that something really stinks here! You need to work out the session save and restore mechanism in Firefox 12. Unluckily for me I had not installed the Session Manager extension. That's one tool that does better what Firefox should do by standard.

Yeah, if the tabs were not restored then unfortunately sessionstore.bak was overwritten. But you're taking it surprisingly well. :) Most people are pissed beyond belief, which is expected. :P
Also let me clear up the confusion between sessionstore.js & sessionstore.bak. Sessionstore.bak is the backup file that Firefox makes after every shutdown of Firefox. Sessionstore.js is the main file that stores all the data about tabs, app tabs and recently closed tabs & windows.
You can backup either one of these files but, like you did, it's best to check the modified timestamp on both files and most importantly their sizes. It will let you know how old that file is and the bigger the size of the file, the better. A 2kb file likely has 1 or 2 tabs, where a 500kb one has around 20 tabs or more.
But to keep it simple, just backup sessionstore.js.
And yes, great idea about Shadow Copy. I've used it on Windows 7 and it really is a life saver. I found it had around 20 or 30 backups for the places.sqlite which I was trying to recover. You could try to implement it on Vista with 3rd party software, I'd just read some reviews first.
Or you could install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/session-manager/ Session Manager addon] we both discussed earlier. Unless you think adding that add-on is overkill or you don't want to weigh down Firefox with another addon? But in this case, I think it does do what you want, which is backup your sessionstore.js everyday or every few days. I think the setting is customizable.
I'm praying for the day they create a "sessionstorebackups" folder like they have for the '''bookmarkbackups''' folder. That way we can have a better chance to recover the tabs.
'''Edit:''' You replied while I typed this. But great work! I didn't know Shadow Copy kept backups of files on Vista even though the service wasn't running. Anyway that's great news. And I see you'll be using Session Manager from now on. :D
And thanks for clearing up the part about Firefox prompting you to save your tabs at closing. I haven't seen Firefox do that in a while (the last version that showed that prompt was maybe 3.5?) so I was wondering what was going on there. :) Take care and have a good one!

    Hi,
We have an application  built using HTMl 5 and Javascript running on IPad2, iOS5.1 Safari 5.1.
When a file url is clicked instead of asking for Save or Open or Cancel options, the file gets opened on IPad by default.
Is this default behaviour which cannot be changed or can it be configured to ask user preference?
When we try to download a file(.pvw file -> a model file) in the above application, safari throws "Download failed" error.
Please suggest what needs to be done.
    Regards,
    Pramod

Safari on an iPad in general does not allow downloading of files. That's a safety precaution in the iOS SDK to keep unauthorized content off of iOS devices. Safari will open from the web site file types that it can handle, but direct downloading isn't normal behavior, and I don't believe the behavior can be changed, though you can try asking in the developer forum, either here or the one to which you have access as a member of Apple's iOS developer program.
    Regards.
