Firefox's awfully poor Resotre Session has caused me to burst a capillary

...almost. Seriously though, how are we in 2013 with an internet browser that, after a crash, won't restore the last session? This has been a constant problem with firefox over the years, and whilst I appreciate that the functionality of tabs in firefox and being able to manage them in groups via addons is fantastic for workflow compared to its rivals; how is it that all this can be entirely lost from time to time with no more than a blank Restore Session page as its only answer!?
Yes, I have tried about:sessionresotre that doesn't seem to work these days. Yes I have tried doing the replacing of the .bak file to the sessionstore.js. For me, this did not work after my system was restarted and Firefox couldn't manage to keep the information. If the browser isn't capable of managing tabs long term then why have it as an option? I have lost a lot less months of organisation to this, and an hour FURIOUS just now trying to get it back and subsequently writing this.
Am I missing some killer esoteric Mozilla 3rd party app that sorts this out? Why can't we just save or autosave the tabs or even a document of the tabs/groups in word saved somewhere form at least!
I hope you appreciate my blind rage about this, but as I said, we live in a world of Graphene and 3D printers but we have no way of safeguarding or backing up or having a contingency plan for a internet browsing session?

Quite right, peerbeckmann, however I have had this problem since before using the Tab manager addon (a great idea in itself) You have given a useful idea however to save a Tab group to a bookmark folder every now and then and then restore from there...still...this should be a feature of the addon I think! Or officially a part of Firefox.
Cheers.

when i click download it starts to download the file. But then when it hits 99% i get another box that says that it was unable to download Firefox 3.6 and the session has timed out. What is going on?

  • I am trying to install current Firefox 3.6, as I am currently running an older Firefox on my Windows ME, but I keep getting this error message: "Setup has caused an error in SETUP.EXE Setup will now close."--Please help?

I have downloaded all IP changer Privacy software I have purchased and am trying to install it, and although it is made to work with WindowsME that I am currently using on my computer, it now says it requires Firefox 3 or above to be able to install the software. Therefore, I am trying to update my Firefox to current 3.6 but once Firefox 3.6 downloads it doesn't install. Instead I just keep getting the same error message: Setup has caused an error in SETUP.EXE. Set up will now close. Several times, I have also tried restarting the computer as the error message also recommended But I just still keep getting the same error message when I try to update/install Firefox 3.5. Please help/advise on how I can fix this problem. Many thanks in advance!

Firefox 2.0.0.20 is the last ever version of Firefox for Win98 / SE / ME.
You can get it from here, but you are better off using K-Meleon (derived from Firefox) or Opera instead an old version of Firefox:
    [ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/2.0.0.20/win32/en-US/]
You can try KernelEx to get Firefox 3+ to work, but it would be very slow with an old PC of less than 750Mhz. 3.5 and later supposedly doesn't work.

Install Portable Firefox 3.6.x to your hard drive for that one website. It won't affect your current Firefox installation at all. <br />

This can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked (check the permissions on the about:permissions page).
Clear the cache and the cookies from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":

You get an alert about resending POST data if you go back to a page or refresh a page that was previously requested from the server by submitting form data via a (hidden) POST form.<br />
Firefox can only make sure to get the same page by resending that POST form.<br />
Firefox doesn't know what that form data means, so Firefox asks for confirmation before resending that form data as such an action can cause you to repeat an action and buy another item or post a message another time.<br />
A way to prevent this pop-up about resending POST data is not to use the Back button, but to open links on a page requested from a server by sending a form with POST date in a new tab (window) with a middle-click or a Ctrl + left-click.

Well, first, why are you running such ancient versions of Firefox as 3.6? i would immediately update to Firefox 15.0.1 as Firefox 3.6.28 is no longer supported and is critically insecure.
As for the dreamweaver thing, I'm not sure this is a Firefox issue, so I'd check again after updating Firefox.

  • Firefox on my wife's laptop has lost the black bar that used to show Maps, Gmail etc. Now at the top of the screen there is a blank bar, triple height, with just the Google search input box. How do I get this back? Or is this a question for Google?

When I open Firefox there is a black bar, sometimes vertical, other times horizontal, across the top, with links to Maps, Gmail etc. When I open Gmail the same links are listed across the top of the screen, right under the Tabs. In my wife's laptop this appears in the Firefox start-up screen, but not in the Gmail screen. At the top of her screen is a super-wide gray bar with just a Google search input box. Is this a Firefox or Google problem?
She has XP Home SP3 and Firefox 9
    Thanks for any help.

  • ISE 1.2 issue with CWA (Error : Your session has expired)

    Hii
we have ISE deployment with two administration nodes and two service policy nodes running 1.2.1.198 , with CWA for wireless guest users (Cisco WLC) . Suddenly , many guest users faced an issue where login page is redirected but after inserting user/password  it gave ""Your session has expired. Sign on again""
    authentication logs on ISE shows:
    Event  5418 Guest Authentication Failed
    Failure Reason  86017 Session Missing
    Resolution  Please contact your Administrator
Root cause  SessionID is missing. Please contact your System Administrator
we suspected the bug CSCul10677 , but it is fixed in 1.2.1.198 . We reloaded the two service policy nodes and that resolved the issue temporarily , but it showed back after couple of hours . The issue appeared with some users not all , and with no specific devies or operating systems.
    Any idea ?
    Regards,
    Mohammad

Please refer the link : https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12131531/ise-12-guest-access-session-expired
    Workaround:
Terminate session from admin UI and type in the original URL to redirect to guest portal with a new session-id.
Disconnect SSID, wait for a few minutes, reconnect and enter the original URL to redirect to guest portal with the new session-id.

  • Firefox always uses the same session id

    Hi,
our company changes standard browser from IE6 to Firefox 3.5.10 .
Now we have  great problems with with our ColdFusion application when running it inside Firefox ,because Firefox doesn't create new session id
when working  in two tabs or two windows. It always uses the same cfid and cftoken.
So it is not possible to work with two different sessions.
IE6 always creates new session id when opening new window.
Has somebody solved this problem? It is very urgent!!!
    regards
    Claudia

I suspect that this is browser issue, not a server-side (CF) issue.  In order to support different cookies in different tabs you will probably need to try to find a Firefox extension to change how the browser uses cookies.
This extension is advertised as doing what you need.  Note that I have never used this product.

  • Firefox isn't restoring last session, holding on to old closed windows...

I have my Firefox browser set to restore my previous session. However, when the browser crashes or my computer is turned off and then back on, it will only restore a single blank browser window. I know a fix around this, though - go to History and Restore Closed Windows. However, for the past three weeks, when I've done this the only windows that are restored are from my session three weeks ago - tabs that were closed get opened, and new tabs that were opened are now missing. Clearing my history and restarting my computer have not helped. Does anyone know why this is occurring and what I can do to fix it?
    Thanks.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

  • Your login session has expired

    Hi
We have upgraded customer instance from 11i10cu2 to 12.0.6
Its a 2 node RAC (on linux) and 2 application nodes , pcp and load balancing implemented
Customer has reported the followign issue
    Error
    Cannot display page
You cannot complete this task because one of the following events caused a loss of page data:
. You accessed this page using browser's navigation buttons (the browser Back button, for example).
. Your login session has expired.
. A system failure has occurred
we had set the session cookie domain as null as per metalink note 741803.1 but this hasnt helped
Also we had set the ICX session time out as null . initail value was 30
customer says issue could be with load balancer because when he by=passes load balancer , it works
for now I passed metalink note 387306.1
    to customer.
    Changes With Load Balanacer Configurations.
Cause The session persistance was set to low. The Microsoft IE browser is the only browser affected due to the HTTP 1.0 header with IE. IE will break cookie persistence.

  • Your Session has Expired - iPhone SDK 3.1.2

I am new in development. I had my activation done. I try to download from my Mac - Safari and Firefox and I have this error.
    Your session has expired.
Please return to the ADC Member Site and attempt to download the file again.
If you feel you received this message in error, please reference this code when contacting the ADC Support Team: V2
I had been trying for almost a week and still have this error. I had submitted my problem to Apple but no reply from them. Anyone can advice on this.
    regards

Updating - my issue was solved:
I've noted that when I was trying to download it through my VPN connection (which connects my internet with my office internet), I forgot to check the "Send all traffic over VPN connection" under the "system preferences - network - My VPN Connection - Advanced...". After checking that this option was "enabled" and all of my network traffic was passing through the VPN, I succeeded downloading it. By that point it must be something wrong with my ISP "Telefonica Espana - Madrid".
It turns out to be a "intercept proxy" which was implemented by them. As I'm a new subscriber to their service, by default, they redirect my internet connection through this proxy, which they "offer" as a "security" service in order to avoid spamming, fishing websites threats, "parental control" over the web and finally as a "ad blocking proxy". My actual ISP (telefonica espana) offers it by default to their new subscribers and after 30 days they charge us 3,50 EUR/month for this proxy service called "Canguro Net Plus". Actually this clumsy proxy service was blocking my download requests on http://developer.apple.com/iphone. Even after disabling the "Canguro Net Plus" service through its web page configuration, it was still forcing my internet connection to pass through their clumsy proxy. I had to call to their customer service number to request it to be cancelled (They will only accept to cancel it if you call them by phone). After that I'm now able to download the iphone sdk 3.1.3, 2.82 GB in 45 minutes.
So, if the workaround mentioned above, regarding the change from http to https, doesn't work for you, I suggest you to try a VPN connection in which you must be able to access the internet as well. As a diagnose action you can even try to download it through the "Tor" (The onion router) just to let you verify that through "Tor" you are able to download just a small part of the 2.82 GB. "Tor" is really slow therefore you won't be able to download the iphone sdk (as I said - it's only for a diagnose action). It'll just indicate you that your ISP probably is blocking your download with a clumsy "intercept/cache/transparent proxy" service. Maybe you are able to detect that your ISP is applying some kind of proxy service over your internet connection. Just google it or contact your ISP customer service.
    Good luck!
