Firefox says "Unable to connect" but Interent Explorer works fine

Randomly one day, opened up firefox and it was unable to connect. I have gone to the support sites I have followed everything, yet nothing works. Internet Explorer works just fine so its not my connection. I have also uninstalled and re-installed the entire program it still doesn't work.

Did the problem appear after updating your version of Firefox? It could be your Firewall does not recognize the new version. See:

  • Firefox won't work, every website has an error like the internet isn't connected but internet explorer works fine, how do I fix it?

    This is the message I get for EVERY website I have tried: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at support.mozilla.com. I have checked the firewall and didn't notice any problems but I might not know what to look for.     Which extensions did you install?

    I cannot access two site through Firefox, one is facebook.com. The message says, "Problem Loading Page. Unable to connect. Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.facebook.com...." Another website is a Proboards site. I can get to proboards.com, but the specific board I want to access. I am able to get to all other web pages except these two. I am also able to access these websites from other computers using the same internet connection. I have disable all add ons and uninstalled all antivirus software. Firefox is checked as an exception to the Windows Firewall (I even tried turnign off the Firewall to see if that would work, but it did not)

    After my iPod connects to a network for wifi, it says that it is connected to that network, and the wifi symbol appears in the top left hand corner to show that it is connected. But, whenever I try to go to Safari or another app involving the internet, the iPod says "invalid argument" and the internet doesn't work at all. How do i fix this problem?

    Are you trying to FaceTime to your computer, or iPhone with your iPod? Do they share the same address? If so change the address to one of your devices, otherwise it's like trying to call yourself from the same phone. If not the problem, then I'm not understanding your question.     I don't know if you are still having the issue but if you are have you contacted your ISP? It sounds to me like it's more of a connectivity issue than a browser problem. I've dealt with similar things several times and in both cases it was something with the modem or an ISP setting.
    I'm also wondering if it could be a Wi-Fi issue. Can you log in to your router? (It varies by brand but you would go to a site such as http://192.168.10.1. That is for Trendnet. The information for yours should be in the documentation that came with it.)
    You should be able to get the router log in page to come up even if you can't connect to any websites. (Provided the network is set up correctly.)
    I also would double check your connection settings (if you're connecting over Wi-Fi) or your ethernet connection. (If you're connected directly to the modem and router.)
    Hopefully one of these suggestions will be helpful.

    In my experience t here are two different problems with the speed of firefox on startup
    # your os and setup
    # firefox - and exactly what you use with it
    Some factors will be down to your OS and for instance what does start up initially, many of those factors will affect other programmes/applications and not only firefox.
    Some other factors depend on Firefox and how you set that up, I always like to have the option to using Firebug but realise it cold clash with other software or slow down firefox startup so I only enable it as I need it. see for instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/performance/
