Firefox Ver. 34.0.5 fails to render Youtube website. CSS not working. Ideas?

Youtube.com website not rendering (CSS requests are not working), and videos not accessable. This is not related to any plugin issues, such as Flash, etc. The youtube.com main page renders like an experimental HTML document, with no style-sheet info. I've attached screen images to show what it looks like.
I found one other similiar situation, in Arch-Linux, where the problem turned out to be a DNS configuration issue. I have tried many DNS configurations, and confirm I can get to every other website, and they seem to render ok. I can even watch videos on other websites, if I enable the Flash plugin. I have removed and re-installed Firefox at least three times, as I have it working correctly on several other machines (LInux and Windows ). The problem machine runs Windows XP, SP3, and is an older HP box. Note that all other websites seem to render correctly, and videos are watchable. It appears to be related to i.ytimg.com CSS (cascading style sheet) access just not working, but only for Youtube. Any ideas? Three detailed screen captures are provided below. I tried removing the firewall restrictions, made no difference. I also did a detailed scan for virus issues and malware, but no evidence of any found. I'm stymied. Any suggestions appreciated.
One issue might be the recent TOR browser bundle, which I have installed on the machine. It works fine, and renders Youtube.com, but videos are slow. TOR documentation and technical reports assert that TOR-browser does not interact
with existing browsers (it is Firefox 31.xx, I think.) TOR does establish proxy settings, and I have confirmed the Ver. 34 non-TOR Firefox is configured to not use any proxy setting.
I am running out of ideas here. This behaviour is strange. Any suggestions how I can detail debug Firefox in operation as it does this broken rendering? The error even affects earlier versions of Firefox.

*** SOLVED *** !!!
Got it!
I have spent *days* on this, because it just bugged me so much!
FOund it by searching and reading all the Mozilla FIrefox support forums.
Problem was an old hard-coded fix that I put into my HOSTS file, on my Windows XP, SP3 machine. Specifically, I had experienced hang issues with a site called "i.ytimg.com", which I believe is the static cache for Google/Youtube stuff. I tracked this error down to failures of security certificates, but confirmed my security cert store was isometric between my machine cluster (they were all the damn same!)
So, I had put two lines in the HOSTS file, to hard-code an IP address so that Google-youtube pages would not hang up waiting for "i.ytimg.com"
Well, of course, Google/Youtube is now using different locations, or akami servers or some damn thing...
The fix just involved removing these two hard-coded lines from my HOSTS file. I just commented the old fix out, and now everything works.
<pre>
# --- two lines added to fix i.ytimg.com hang problem
# 74.125.162.39 static.cache.l.google.com s.ytimg.com
# 74.125.162.39 static.cache.l.google.com i.ytimg.com
</pre>
(The # symbol is used to make a comment in hosts file... )
On Windows XP, XP3, the "hosts" file is typically located in:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
If you are having goofy problems with some youtube/google webpages
not rendering, or generating SSL (bad_certificate) errors, check your
"hosts" file, and ensure no ip redirection has been slotted in there
from a while back.
Hope this helps others...

This is intermittent but happens quite frequently each day if Firefox is active.

  • Firefox wont start, all soloutions given on website do not work

I am using Windows XP and the most recent version of Firefox. I was browsing last night and had multiple pages open (the websites were bbc.co.uk, eurogamer.co.uk, ign.co.uk). I clicked on a link for an article and the page started behaving strangely, like it was being re-directed so I closed it immediately. All of my open pages then disappeared completely. I received no error messages or acknowledgement of what had happened so I decided to simply re-load. Now, when I click on the Firefox icon I get nothing, no browser, no error messages. When I check my task manager there are no open Firefox processes. I have tried un-installing and re-installing but even that does not work. I can still open internet explorer so I know my internet connection is working ok. I have tried everything suggested on the official Firefox website but still nothing. Does anyone have any ideas, any help would be greatly appreciate.

I have the exact same problem. Firefox has been my default browser forever. Was trying to load Sorority life, an app on Facebook. Although FaceBook loaded, SL wouldn't. After doing all the cache clean up ect that was reccommended, and still not able to load the game, I ended up removing and reloading FireFox Once I re-loaded, nothing. I don't care how many times I try to load it, I get absolutely nothing.

#A link to Firefox 4 versions will not be offered by any '''''responsible''''' contributor here, because Firefox 4 versions contain stability and security issues <u>that will not be corrected</u>. Firefox 4 is a thing of the past.
#The only currently supported versions that a '''''responsible''''' contributor here will offer are Firefox 5 and Firefox 3.6.18. • Why o why does my cimputer say uopdayte now to latest Firefox Version and then say add ons like SKYPE etc will not work with new version . I di not understand .o

    as above

Many add-ons work only with a particular range of Firefox versions. After the upgrade, Firefox will attempt to find new compatible versions. This is not always possible.
To determine whether an add-on you can't live without has a version for Firefox 11, you can check the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ Add-ons site] or try this add-on to make that a little easier (I haven't tried it myself): [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/is-it-compatible/ Is It Compatible? :: Add-ons for Firefox].
By the way, many recent posts report problems with Skype add-ons, so you might want to research here if you notice any strange copy/paste problems.

  • Why do some website forms not work in Firefox?

I went into my wireless phone account to black a phone number. Blocking the phone number doesn't work in Firefox 33, but it does work in IE 11. Why doesn't it work in Firefox 33?

  • Why si firefox so quick to updatewand make many of my add ons not work

every time firefox has an update different add ons do not work after the update.i use my computer and add ons for about 6 hours per day. the add ons are ESSENTIAL. i am sick and tired of updating then having to go back to a previous version. i used to love firefox now i am beginning to hate it almost as much as chrome and IE

I can understand your frustration. The reason for compatibility checks and the resulting deactivation of your add-ons, however, is the concern for your own safety and robustness of your environment (... you may have had some bad experience in this regard yourself, for instance with Flash crashing now and then).
Go to the page '''Tools > Add-ons ''' and click "Extensions" to open the page with currently installed add-ons. There, you can reactivate disabled add-ons or - what's better in any case - look for updates and/or more recents replacements of your older add-ons.

  • I updated to the newest version of FIREFOX and now my NETFLIX won't play, YOUTUBE videos will not play. I was one of the people that donated to you this year.

Hello Mozilla/FIREFOX I just updated to your latest version and now my NETFLIX nor my YOUTUBE plays anymore. I just get a black space without any volume or play symbols - this isn't working for me. I donated to your organization as I am a supporter but you'll need to honor your side of the street. What are you guys doing to fix this and by when will it be resolved?

    Hello,
The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.
'''''Note:''' When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences.'' See the [[Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings]] article for more information.
    To Refresh Firefox:
    # Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
#*Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Troubleshooting Information''. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
#*If you're unable to access the Help menu, type '''about:support''' in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
#At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
#Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
#Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.
Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.
