Firefox very slow and Thunderbird not responding with new HP laptop.

I recently purchased a new HP laptop with Windows 8. I had been using Firefox and Thunderbird on both my old laptop and desktop with no problem. However, since trying to use both on my new machine, Firefox has slowed down to the point of making it impractical to use. And whenever I log into Thunderbird, it takes at least 10 minutes and more before Thunderbird becomes responsive.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Are there any solutions?

  • Droid x2 touch screen responce very slow and sometimes not responding.

I've been having issues with my 3g also dropping to 1x and not getting 3g back until i remove the battery also.I did the *228 and seemed to help this situation, but still has a hard time with connecting to 3g. Idk if this a area problem or not.  When switching from apps to browser and main screen to browser, i can tap the browser and getting the indicator coming up so i know I touched it.It will delay like 5-10 seconds and sometimes i have to hit it like 5 times before it will come up. Friday i went to a verizon store and they cleared the cache and installed the dolphin browser. it seemed to work better until yesterday when it started freezing and not responding. Sometimes the keyboard will stay on my main screen when i exit my browser. I have to shut the screen off to resolve this issue. this is my second droid x2 and I had 4 droid x's in the last 18 months due to software issues. this is a very annoying issue and am very tired of the motorola devices i've had. verizon offered me a early upgrade but i refuse to purchase another motorola device.

"lags" or "nonresponsiveness" is USUALLY a 3rd Party App sucking the life out of your CPU (processor).  Is it reproducible? If so, I would boot into SAFE MODE and test it. If the problem goes away, that pretty much confirms that you have an APP or WIDGET causing your grief ... and time to start Uninstalling things until the problem gores away. the silver "bullet" is a factory Reset - but don't automatically have all your APPS redownload or you'll likely just be back to the same issue.
Do a Search for "SAFE MODE" in the search bar just above ...  if you can't find the procedure, let me know.

If multiple people are seeing the same problems after making the same changes it is hard to believe that each problem is fundamentally different. To say that a change is specific to a single configuration implies that every computer and every operating system installation are different. This is not rational. Treating each problem individually fixes one problem. Finding the root cause fixes all the problems. I am familiar with finding root cause of communication systems - in particular mission critical spacecraft command and telemetry links. That experience teaches me to break the problem into pieces. My troubleshooting indicates a very high packet loss between my computer and my wireless router. In the exact same configuration with with two other devices i see negligible packet losses. i can go outside my home network and see the same ping and traceroute evidence in comparing the devices. That rules out my ISP, my email provider and pretty much isolates the problem to the router Mac link. Is this thinking flawed? Can you suggest additional tests I can run to further isolate the dropped packet problem? Further, no hardware has changed in my configuration. The only change is the upgrade to 10.8.3.
In posting to other threads I am trying to find if there is evidence of the same problem and to determine if there is any other way to gather evidence, and perhaps suggest ideas that folks might double check their fixes. In doing so you aggregate the problem and not decimate it. The problem in this thread may not be solved if a packet loss is still present. I am seeing packet losses as high as 60%; an iPad at the same location is seeing less than 0.1%. The network connection will work with high packet losses. You know that is what TCP/IP does but why accept 20%, 10% or 5% packet loss if you know it should be much less than 1%. The problem can only be determined if it is tested.
I have created my own thread - I linked to it.
If you prefer to not allow comments on closed threads I would suggest closing the threads to editing. In the future I will link from my thread to the solved one however if my thread finds a better solution there will be no way of pointing from the closed thread to a better solution.
My apologies for attempting to perform a methodical root cause analysis.

  • Firefox Locks Up And Is "Not Responding" A Lot

This has been going on for years. When I have 3 or 4 tabs, especially facebook open, and am watching a youtube video Firefox freezes up a lot. I just dealt with it but I'm starting to get sick of it. The only addons I use are DownloadHelper and AdBlock Plus. I have a lot of plugins disabled. I don't know what is causing this but I just checked on my CPU Usage and Firefox was using 266,000+ K and that's not counting Flash, which was using 70,000+ K. Someone please help me fix this extremely irritating issue.
    PC Details:

FF hangs with Not Responding is frequent, while this is hung, it locks up my entire PC and I cannot do anything including opening Task Manager.

  • How do I make Firefox stop crashing and giving "not responding" messages. I don't want to reset it because I've got lots of extensions. Other browsers work fine

Every few minutes it gives me a "not responding" message and/or it crashes. I've checked all my add-ons, they're all updated. I've tried accessing the same websites that crash on Firefox with other browsers and it works really well. I don't want to reset it as one of the troubleshooting solutions suggest because I'd rather change to another browser than having to re-install all my add-ons. Please, is there anything that can be done to fix this?

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
Also try to disable hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Why does my Firefox freeze up and say Not Responding no matter if i`m on a website or e-mail?

Every time I use my Firefox whether its for browsing online or using my e-mail, it freezes up and says Firefox Not Responding. It has become so frustrating and I would really like to continue running Firefox. PLEASE HELP!

Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    * You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."''
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

  • Start up very slow and sometimes not at all and other weird stuff

Installed Leopard right after its release...had a mail issue which was resolved using phone support. My Macbook seemed to be a bit slower functioning and yesterday I couldn't get into it half the time - it would either get stuck in the screen between starting up and the desktop or would show the apple logo and then a 'no' symbol (like u see with no smoking signs minus the cigarette!) I did manage to persevere and get in and search a few things but the whole time everything was very slow. I downloaded the update for Leopard but its still quite slow and today I have had problems with various random programs being shut down for no apparent reason....any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    Helena.

    Hello helena:
I am assuming you installed OS X 10.5 by using the easy install (update).
If the problems have been with you from the beginning, I think I would consider and archive and install:

    Hello,
I wrote on another tread with same subject about month or two ago and until now, no one replied. I had the same problem. Today, I was at the friend who has HP laptop. We tried to solve the problem and tried it as follows:
    1. My battery in my laptop with my charger - not charging (appears in windows battery charging but all the times it remains at 90 %).
    2. His battery in his laptop with his charger - everything is working fine (this is just for the records)
    3. My laptop, his battery his charger - everything is fine.
    4. His laptop, my battery and his charger - everything is working fine
    5. My laptop, my battery and his charger - everything is OK.
I didn't try putting my charger in his laptop with his battery inside. But from above, it seams that something is wrong with the charger. Does anyone have some explanation? This is totally weird problem. Is there any logic in the charger that can prevent somehow battery charging? I am waiting another friend to bring his laptop and charger to assure that everything is OK with my motherboard and battery ( after all, charger is the cheapest, isn't it?) Since I'm electrical engineer, i would like to hear some explanation for this problem.

  • My email is very slow and does not refresh automatically.

My Yahoo and Gmail accounts on my iPhone are very slow.  They do no refresh automatically and I often have to restart the wireless to push emails out.  I thought it might be the email provider but it happens with both accounts.

Try these basic troubleshooting steps and see if any of them help.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit all apps and restart. In order to quit or close apps - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Safari 5.0.1 is running very slow and doesn't communicate with iPhoto

Hi! I recently downloaded the suggested update for Safari 5 and now Safari runs slow and can't import photos to iPhoto. It takes 3 tries to import a photo and a message comes up saying the file didn't make it to iPhoto. I know I can't go back to Safari 5.0 unfortunately, but is there any way to make my internet experience a little bit more enjoyable?

Deleting the cache only made things worse. Now pages won't open at all! Too > bad I ever updated, it made things "broken" that worked fine before!!!
I've notice the last few days that "emptying the cache" is being recommended a lot on this forum for all kinds of problems with Safari. And in fact, removing the cache would actually slow down Safari, since the page needs to be reloaded completely instead of being read from the HD. And in your case it completely messed up your Safari.

  • Firefox 16.0.1 Crashes, Not Responding with Unresponsive Script Warnings and Adobe Flash Plugin Crashes

    Hello,
I'm experiencing some issues with Firefox 16.0.1 which I had also experienced with Firefox 15.0.1.
On numerous occasions Firefox has crashed while attempting to access a website link contained in an AOL e-mail message.
Unrelated to that issue, Firefox has hung up frequently with associated unresponsive script warnings and occasionally with the Adobe Flash Plugin crashing. Some of the unresponsive script warnings are:

You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

  • Firefox very slow and repeatedly hangs after upgrading to 7.0

I upgraded to Firefox 7.0 this morning. Since updating, Firefox is running excruciatingly slow. When trying to load webpages in new or existing tabs Firefox will hang indefinitely, and I need to restart Firefox to get it working again.
I have tried clearing cookies and cache, and starting Firefox in safemode with all add-ons and plug-ins disabled, but neither have helped the problem.
    Running Windows 7 64 bit, 4GB RAM

I may have found a solution to this problem [http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2321783 here] (well, at least Firefox has been working again for the last few hours, not sure if it will prove to be a long term solution or not).
As it says in the linked article, type '''about:config''' into the address bar, find '''network.http.max-connections''' and change its value from 256 to 48.
I have absolutely no idea why this works but it seems to. According to my resource monitor Firefox still seems to be using a ridiculous amount of memory and disk, and my cpu fan is still going crazy, but at least websites are loading again!
Does this fix the problem for anyone else?

  • ITunes Store works very slow or does not connect with my account.

When I use my account to sign into the iTunes store, the store either (1) Operates very very slowly or (2) Ignores my request or (3) Reports an unknown connection error. This happens on ANY Mac computer (Windows not tested). Problem moves with the account to other machines. Other accounts work fast and fine. Store works rapidly when signed out. Logging into an Apple website with my id works fine. Tried managing my id. Nothing changed. Started experiencing problems today (December 25, 2011) when trying to purchase iTunes Certs. for Christmas gifts. I have one of those old mac.com Apple IDs. Very odd. Ideas?

    jmgg0025,
Is there something in common between our accounts. It appears we are/were getting routed to a different server than most perhaps.
    1. I'm a iPhone Developer.
    2. My apple id is [email protected]
    3. My account predates the itunes store.
    Ideas?
