First Gen iPod Touch 8GB, doesn't clear rented movies
So I rent a movie from iTunes Store, move it over to my iPod Touch, watch it. I watch the movie, then the movie expires, and I get a message on my iPod telling me the movie had now expired. All good. The movie then disappears from my "Videos" section on the iPod. Then, when I connect it with my computer, the bar at the bottom (which shows the capacity and what percentage is taken-up by music and videos), the videos bar is now at some 4.3Gb even though there are no movies on it.
Is this a bug of some sort? My iPod touch version is 1.1.5 and frankly I refuse to pay for version 2.2 which only seems to offer feature I do not care for.
Can anyone offer a remedy short of Factory Restore everytime I sync movies?
Oddly enough, at times when I go to "Videos" on my iPod Touch, some of my previously rented movies still show up for a brief second (movies I've rented months ago) but quickly disappear.
Thanks a ton guys! BTW I have the latest version of iTunes.
You're going to have to do a factory restore on the iPod.
What you've described suggest corrupted files, the usual cause is some error in the sync.

How much space does the 4th gen iPod touch 8GB actually have?
I'm considering buying the new 4th gen iPod touch but am not sure whether to get 8GB or 32GB (wish they had 16GB). My 2nd gen iPod is 8GB, but only has 6.8GB available according to the about tab. I'm down to about 500MB, and am about to import 1GB of music. I'll pick and choose for now (70% I don't listen to anyways). But does anyone know how much available space there actually is for the new 4th gen iPod touch 8GB (I know 32GB is plenty big )?
If it's not worth it, I won't buy it, but mine is having a few problems and I would like a new one that I know is fine instead of refurbished w/ the battery needing replaced (and a camera would be nice).I do use it a lot for games...they tend to be larger files. My songs are whatever my dad buys and whatever I buy. Once I import this big batch of songs I will be at 700 songs and then will only add more when Dad or I buy them. I make a lot of money for a high schooler but my mom doesn't like how much I spend on iTunes (she's not into music the way I am). I don't want to have to pick and choose on which apps I have on my iPod. Songs, I can pick and choose if necessary. I just hate running low on available space.

Can not download any apps from app store with my first gen ipod touch
I am able to search for apps and maneuver around the app store, but i can't download anything. The button that says "FREE" or has the price of the app is unresponsive. There does not seem to be anything wrong with my screen since I'm able to use any apps I already have.
A google search turned up a couple of discussions from others that seem to indicate this is a recent issue.
I'm using a first gen ipod touch with the latest OS it can use.
Does anyone else have this problem? For me the problem started on my IOS 3.1.3 Gen 1 iTouch sometime between my last purchase on 12/10 and a sync. So a sync didn't preceed it. I discovered it when I tried to purchase an Audiobook. I can do podcasts, buy individual songs, but that's about it. I can update apps so long as I do them all, although update has been like that for awhile. I can't buy apps (even free ones), audiobooks, or albums using the Touch directly. I can't see many of the screen previews for apps and I can't review feedback on productcs either. I don't have any problems transfering purchases from my computer to my Touch using the iTunes app. I guess I eventually figured Apple might go here, but I sure haven't seen any announcement they were gong to do it now, so if it's intentional, it was sure done in an unfriednly way. I'm a developer, so I understand having to move on, but my Gen 1 is no where near end of life, even if it can't run the latest IOS. I was an early adopter of the Touch, so I'm one of millions that helped IOS devices become popular. I have newer IOS devices in the household under the same AppleID and another, and they work perfect. But still use the Gen 1 daily. If this is the way going forward, I guess I'll have to buy on my computer or other devices and transfer to the Gen 1, but I'll sure miss being able to do it directly. And I of course tried a factory reset and that didn't resolve it. Given so many are having this issue, I'm pretty sure it's the older IOS or Gen 1 interacting with the Apple storefronts that's the issue. The question is, is it intentional by Apple, or Apple oversight with an update to the storefronts? If intential I can understand apps, but not sure about Music and Audiobooks other than possibly the older IOS is holding back new store features???

Error 8288 when upgrading my first gen Ipod Touch to IOS 3.1.
I am having some trouble trying to get IOS 3.1 on my first generation Ipod touch. I have the latest Itunes, I do not have any dvd burning software like Anydvd that can interfere, and I've tried it on two different computers with no avail. Any help is greatly appreciated.
msoviolist, I opened a ticket via their so called "Express Lane" support page, I assume it'll take a couple of emails before they decide to credit you for the download. I would suggest linking to these two threads in the correspondence, this is what I included in the message;

First Gen iPod Touch will not update to 2.2
Hi guys, having a major issue here with this 2.2 update from Apple. I have a 16GB 1st Gen iPod Touch and am running Windows Vista Home Premium along with iTunes 8.
When I click to update my software from 1.5.1 to 2.2, it goes through the whole process, but when it should finish, it says "Update could not be completed, Error 14." I then try to restore the iPod, it won't do that either. The iPod gets stuck on the screen showing the iTunes w/usb cable picture.
Any help on this? You can try this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275
Beyond that if you are near an Apple Store you might make a Genius Bar appointment. -
Bluetooth game play first gen ipod touch
As far as I have read the first generation iPod touch does not support bluetooth. Is this correct and does this mean that bluetooth gameplay for multiple players on the iPhone OS 3.0 will not be available for first generation iPod touch users?
There seems to be a tendency with some (not all!) game publishers to move to BT (OS3) multiplayer from the traditional (but, not taken the compatibility with iPod Touch 1G and iPhone 2G models, much more restrictive) Wi-Fi model.
Some new games have completely abandoned Wi-Fi in favor of BT; some have added BT in addition to the already-existing Wi-Fi.
What I recommend is contacting the devs of games that have abandoned Wi-Fi (or never used it, only BT) and asking them to re-enable it.
Incidentally, there's a full roundup (a chart) of all MP games at http://winmobiletech.com/sekalaiset/iPhoneMPchart.html -
IPod touch won't remove expired rented movies
ipod touch 2nd gen won't get rid of my rented movies that have expired. When I hit the video button, the movies show up and then disappear, so I don't have time to hit the button to delete them. As a result, my iPod is getting clogged up and I don't know how to get it removed. I need to figure out how to clear up the memory. Anyone have an answer?
Hello Gcaz,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Try this:
1. Open iTunes and have the device attached.
2. Click on the iPod Touch device in the left panel.
3. Click Summary.
4. Check Manually manage movies and music.
5. Click the drop down arrow to the left of the iPod Touch icon.
6. Click Rented Movies.
7. Try deleting the unwanted movies again.
See if that helps.

First gen ipod touch won't download apps. PLEASE HELP
I just got the first gen of ipod touch as a hand me down from my brother...But It won't let me put any apps on it....I recall one time seeing an option to buy the update that allows you to put applications on your ipod, is it not there anymore? or is there some other way to get my stuff going?

Two awkward problems with my 2ND Gen iPod Touch 8GB
1) I can not update my apps. It tells me I do not have write access to the itunes media folder, I do, and I constantly add music to it from sources other than itunes. I checked finder and all the folder is read and write/ as well as the several subfolders within.
2) The next problem is quite a pickle. After restoring from a time machine backup, my iPod touch, no longer is recognized on my mac. Recovery fails with itunes. Get this: it works on every other computer i tried, and im using the same cable. Keep in mind my USB ports are all 100% good, i am constanly using external HDD'S with them. So my question is here, how can I get the iPod to mount without bending over backwards, reinstalling the OS and all. Also since it is still under warrenty, and I have tried getting it restored at apple store (it worked, but to no avail on my acutal iMac at home) will apple replace my ipod with a totally different one?1) You looked in the write place and your access seems correct. However, try repairing permissions as this will usually fix these things.
2) This one isn't as bad as you think it is. Apple Mobile Device Services is not loading properly. If you want to try a quick fix, restart your computer and try again. If that doesn't fix it, go through the troubleshooting steps in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747 Probably the path that will work best for you is to follow the steps for uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. -
Please Help!!! My itunes or computer wont recognize my first gen ipod touch
A couple of months ago my iPod touch kept turning off on me even though my battery level read half. When the ipod turned off on me the first time I tried turning it back on, but the apple logo would only stay on for a couple of seconds then turn off. I tried turning it back on about three times, when I finally decided to stop trying for a couple of minutes. About ten minutes passed and I tried turning it back on, but this time it actually did turn on. The thing is though that when it turned on it had the usb and apple logo on the screen. I tried connecting it to my computer and it didn't pick it up. I plugged it to my friends computer and it still didn't pick it up. I tried reinstalling i tunes, I tried putting it in recovery mode and again nothing. Can some one please help me. I really do not want to spend thirty bucks on apple phone service.
Have you tried placing it in DFU mode and restoring it.?

Problem installing firmware 2.2 on first generation iPod touch 8GB
I recently tried to update my iPod touch from firmware 2.1 to 2.2. However, the install failed and restoring it (to 2.2) failed as well. On a different PC I tried the same. I managed to restore version 1.1.5 of the firmware on it. Unfortunately an upgrade to 2.2 failed on this PC as well.
The symptoms: the software is apparently unpacked correctly and downloaded to the device. However, during the verification stage, the iPod suddenly disconnects and reconnects and iTunes reports an error (error code 6).
Are there known issues with this firmware that can cause this?
