  • Migrating SVN Settings to SQL Developer 3.1EA3

I had SVN set up in SQL Developer 2 and it was working just fine. When I installed SQL Developer 3, I migrated the settings from SQL Developer 2, but the SVN settings did not move over with it. In addition, when I attempt to set up SVN in SQLDev3, it sees it as a new repository and attempts to overwrite my existing local SVN repository.
What is the recommended way to migrate an SVN repository from 2 to 3?
    Thanks!

Here's the solution (in case any one else has had the same problem).
You need to export your SVN settings from the previous version of SQL Developer and import it to the current version. In my case, it was version 2.1 to 3.
Right click on Subversion in the Versioning Navigator, and Export connection.
Then, in the new version of SQL Developer, right click on Subversion and Import connection.
    Done.

  • How to get these settings in sql developer

as per this link, when I selected my rows in sql developer am not getting any of the options shown in the screen shot of the link,
my sql developer is Version 3.2.20.09 windows 64 bit, to use this options do I need to do any settings?
    http://www.thatjeffsmith.com/archive/2013/02/how-to-copy-only-column-headers-from-query-results-in-oracle-sql-developer?
when I highlight and right click am getting only
    a) Save Grid as report
    b) Single record view
    c) count rows
    d) FInd/highlight
    e) Export

Once you have identified the desired column headings by highlighting one or more related data cells in the results grid, position your cursor over any column heading and right-click to get the context menu shown in Jeff Smith's blog.

  • Lost settings of SQL Developer

    Hi Buddies;
I'm using SQL Developer, and inadvertently, I changed the configuration. By this, I mean, initially when I enter to SQLDeveloper I got the window with the conections at the left, and at teh right i got the windows to execute queries or to see tables contains.
But now, when I enter, initially I got a big window with the conections, and when I open a table or I wan to execute a query, I need to look for the especific window, and it's not easy.
How can I restore the initial configuration? I was thru Universar Installer, trying to delete the SQLDeveloper, but I couldn't find out under which section it's.
Any idea what can I do, to solve this problem?
    Thank you very much.

To reset the layout, delete the (hidden) \Application Data\SQL Developer\system2.1.0.63.73\o.ide.11.1.1.2.36.55.30\windowinglayout.xml under your Windows user profile. It will be recreated at next startup.
    Hope that helps,

  • Experiences on first usage of Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeling

    Hi @ll,
working with Quest Toad Data Modeler 2.25 over a year, I'm searching for a replacement with the ability to create ALTER TABLE... statements. Today I downloaded the standalone version and tried to compare my local database against our develoment server.
Our usage scenario is that the development database can be changed by each developer. We have a trigger activated for monitoring (and logging) database changes. Currently the tested and released changes will be merged into the Toad data model manually by me.
Using the Toad model, we create DDL scripts for the SAP supported databases: Oracle, MaxDB, MS-SQL and DB2.
I'd like to facilitate this process.
    h3. Test 1
    1. Import the current model from the development database (User A), save it as XML
    2. Import the current model from my local database (User B), save it as XML
    3. Compare the XML models
    h4. Results
    a) each table is displayed as modified, although no difference is displayed in any column
    b) in the DDL, source tables are renamed with a "bcp_" prefix
    c) for NVARCHAR2, data types are changed (length from 756 to 510, 1800 to 1200)
    h3. Test 2
    1. Import the current model from the development database (User A), save it as XML
    3. Compare the imported model with the XML
    h4. Results 2
    a) The field attribute "Mandatory" changed from "true" to "false"
    h3. Test 3
    1. Import from database
    2. Compare against a XML scheme
    h4. Results 3
    a) Comparing shows the modified tables only - this works nearyl as expected
    b) still different length for datatype NVARCHAR2
    h3. Wish List
    a) the Open File dialog always opens in "My Files", better would be the last opened directory
    b) While starting the comparing, allow changing "source" and "target"
    c) Allow comparing two database schemes
    d) Support for MaxDB?
Overall, this new tool looks very promising and I'm looking forward to testing the next versions ;-)

    Hi Christian,
thanks for trying Oracle Data Modeling.
EAR2 is released and NVarchar2 problem is fixed there. Also are fixed some problems related to your area of interest - applying differences to database.
    On your observations:
    1) each table is displayed as modified, although no difference is displayed in any column - column ordering could be changed, or some of table properties - you can check this by clicking on table node and you can look at details tab for more information
    2) in the DDL, source tables are renamed with a "bcp_" prefix - this is typical rename, create, copy pattern for applying changes that require restructuring of table and intermediate preserving of content. If it's not enough you can try "Advanced DDL" option which gives more control over the whole process - self controlled script with logging, restarting, execution window, error masking. You have option to unload table into file system and load it back after original table is recreated (LOB columns are not supported - we can add support if there is demand for that). Transformation function can be defined for columns with changed data type. There are few words about that in "Data Modeling overview" document (p.15) - http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/pdf/sqldeveloperdatamodelingoverview.pdf

  • Migration issue in SQL Developer (from SQL Server to Oracle)

    Dear All,
I am using SQL Developer 3.0 to migrate data from SQL Server 2008 to Oracle 11gR2. I used Quick Migration Wizard for migrating and everything was Ok but when it was running migration process, I got this message: “Migration actions have failed. Check the migration reports for details. : null”
But there was not any report to check. Does anyone know how I can do it without any problem?
    Thanks in advance.

I am working on a project to migrate from SQL Server 2008 to Oracle 11gR2. It includes some tables, views, indexes, triggers and store procedures. At first I worked on SQL Developer 2.1.1.64 but it doesn’t support SQL Server 2008 (I had to use SQL Server 2005 in its offline options). I got a lot of error when I used the offline options. I know that I may be having some problem in table or view definition in my SQL Server but if I don’t have any log file I can’t solve them.
Unfortunately, in SQL Developer 3.0 there isn’t any option to generate a SQL comments from objects (convert to Oracle) because I need to rewrite comments if they have problem. For example I have a filed named USER that it’s a reserved word in Oracle so I have to change this field name.
I also can’t use “Translation Scratch Editor” because it has some error to convert. For example when I use it for the following code:
    CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Table1](
         [ID1] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
         [Name1] [varchar](50) NULL,
         CONSTRAINT [PK_Table1] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
         [ID1] ASC
    )WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY]
    ) ON [PRIMARY]
    CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Table2](
         [ID2] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
    [Name1] [varchar](50) NULL,
         CONSTRAINT [PK_Table2] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
         [ID2] ASC
    )WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY]
    ) ON [PRIMARY]
I receive a wrong code like this:
    CREATE SEQUENCE Table1_ID1
    START WITH 1
    INCREMENT BY 1;
    CREATE TABLE Table1
    ID1 NUMBER(10,0) NOT NULL,
    Name1 VARCHAR2(50) ,
    CONSTRAINT PK_Table1 PRIMARY KEY( ID1 )
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER Table1_ID1_TRG
    BEFORE INSERT
    ON Table1
    FOR EACH ROW
    BEGIN
    SELECT Table1_ID1.NEXTVAL INTO :NEW.ID1
    FROM DUAL;
    END;
    CREATE SEQUENCE Table1_ID1
    START WITH 1
    INCREMENT BY 1;
    CREATE SEQUENCE Table2_ID2
    START WITH 1
    INCREMENT BY 1;
    CREATE TABLE Table2
    ID2 NUMBER(10,0) NOT NULL,
    Name1 VARCHAR2(50) ,
    CONSTRAINT PK_Table2 PRIMARY KEY( ID2 )
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER Table1_ID1_TRG
    BEFORE INSERT
    ON Table1
    FOR EACH ROW
    BEGIN
    SELECT Table1_ID1.NEXTVAL INTO :NEW.ID1
    FROM DUAL;
    ENDCREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER Table2_ID2_TRG
    BEFORE INSERT
    ON Table2
    FOR EACH ROW
    BEGIN
    SELECT Table2_ID2.NEXTVAL INTO :NEW.ID2

  • SQL Developer 1.5.3 Can't Import Text Files

It is version build main-5783. When I try to import data in text files, I get this message "there are no readers registered for the txt type"; how can I get a reader?
While SQL Developer allows excel file import, but the imported tables have their column orders reversed and excel files can only hold very limited rows. Is there a good data pump kind of like what MS SQL has that we can use?
    Thanks for your help!

The Data Import Wizard almost froze on step one reading the file, it has only 120,000 records and not very wide, after it came back I had all the column data types specified, click on verify then finish and it ran for few minutes; when I refreshed no new table was created.
I loaded the file to MS Access and tried to push the table through using ODBC with the Access Export Wizard; it ran for few minutes and when I refreshed in Oracle, the table was there and looked perfect.
Off first glance Oracle's SQL Developer does not appear to be a mature product. At least it lacks the data pump that MS SQL Enterprise Manager does which is ultra fast and easy to use.
Thanks for the help, I will use Access as a bridge then.

  • SQL Developer is not exporting the time part of date data types.

I need to export data from a table using sql developer. The column is a date data type but when I export the data to a csv, xls or an sql file with insert statements, sql developer only includes the date part without the time.
    Please kindly advise.
    Thanks,
    Erika

  • Oracle SQL Developer Release 1.5.5 "compile for debug"

Using Oracle SQL Developer Release 1.5.5 on Windows XP pro machine connecting to 9.2.0.4 database on AIX machine.
Trying to debug a procedure, in the navigator window, I rt-clk the procedure and select "Compile for Debug", then nothing happens. This happens for every procedure I've tried. I've been granted both DEBUG ANY PROCEDURE and DEBUG CONNECT SESSION. Any ideas?

This is the first I've used SQL Developer, so I'll take the blame. I had not noticed that the Messages Log does in fact tell me that the proc compiled. However, the debug icon (little red bug) was nowhere to be found.
I see now that I need to Edit, not Open, the proc in order to debug. If I had read the Help screens a little more closely, I would have seen that I needed to be in Edit mode. My bad. Thanx to all for your responses.

  • SQL Developer startup is very slow

I'm finding that the first time I start SQL Developer it takes between 3 mins 30 and 4 mins to start up. This seems far too long. It's installed on a Windows 7 PC in it's own folder in Program Files. What's causing it to be so slow? - virus scanning, JVM startup? Also why are there 3 executables - sqldeveloper.exe in teh root and sqldeveloper and sqldeveoperW in teh bin folder?

Your "Automatically Check for Updates" option may be turned on. You can look at this setting by going to Tools->Preferences->Extensions. When I unchecked the "Automatically Check for Updates" checkbox my startup times drastically decreased. Hope that helps.

  • Issue with SQL Developer connect to SQL server

I'm using "SQL Developer 2.1.1.64.45" to work on a migration project which needs to convert a SQL server database to a Oracle 11g database. But I got an issue when I setup the SQL server connection. The SQL Developer let me connect by selecting a SQL server database name (For example: Northwind), but once connected, it always connected to "master" database instead. The "SQL Developer" is running on Windows 7 Professional (x64) platform. My Oracle database is 11g, and SQL server database is SQL 2005. And my SQL server instance name is "SQL2005". Anyone have ever experienced this problem? Thanks in advance.
    Edited by: user8276338 on Feb 8, 2011 1:05 PM

    Hi Bob,
Thanks for the feedback, lets stick with SQL Developer 3.
    Correct me if I'm wrong,
You attempted to migrate from SQL Server to Oracle including target generation and datamove in one go, by filling in each step of the migration wizard to the end.
    During the datamove you got
    ORA-01000:maximum open cursor exceeded
So it looks like SQL Developer during the migration is not closing cursors fast enough and hits the maximum number of open cursors in your Oracle database.
I think the default max open cursors is 300 in Oracle.
There are a few things we can do here.
You should be able to see the new migration project in your Migration Projects navigator.
By navigating down the project tree to "Converted Database Objects" we can attempt the data move again by right clicking and choosing "Data Move".
But first I would restart SQL Developer so as to free up any lingering open cursors.
That may allow you to complete the data move, as the only cursors being open are being used in the data move and not some cursors which may have been left open from previous steps in the migration.
Now from my perspective I would like to identify where are we leaving open the cursors, so I'm going to setup some testcases my end to see if I can replicate.
From your perspective Id presume you just want to move on with the migration.
So if the above (shutdown and attempt just the data move) doesnt workyou could
    A) Increase the MAX OPEN CURSORs on your Oracle databases so it complete the data move
    or
    B) Use the offline data move technique.
    A) Increase MAX OPEN CURSORs
This wiki explains how to do that, looks like 1000 is fairly common, but even a much larger number is not a problem
    http://wiki.oracle.com/page/OPEN_CURSORS
    ALTER SYSTEM SET OPEN_CURSORS = 10000;
    OR
    B) Offline Data Move
If you are moving large amounts of data (say > 1GB), then the standard data move (we call it online), which just uses JDBC to SELECT * FROM and INSERT INTO may not cut the mustard.
In this case you can try using our offline technique. SQL Developer will generate a set of scripts for you.
unload_script.bat will use SQL Servers BCP tool to dump out the table data into DAT files.
oracle_ctl.bat will load the data in the DAT files into Oracle.
As we know the names of all the tables, columns ,both SQL Server and Oracle, we can generate fairly good scripts.
The benefit of this technique is large amounts of data can be migrated and you get to use tools designed to dump data and load in data, so you have better error logging and tweaking.
To attempt this in the Migration Wizard , Data Move page, select offline.
If you can describe your database a bit (number of tables, number of procedures, amount of data to migrate) I may be able to define my testcase better so I can replicate the issue.

  • Double click to open .sql files with sql developer on mac osx

    hi,
I am trying to double click a .sql file and open it with SQL Developer on Mac OSX lion. I have associated .sql files to SQL Developer. On clicking the file it opens the SQL developer application but does not open the actual .sql file. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hello,
Did you find any solution to your problem ? My SQL Developer worked fine and could open additional SQL files. Now it only opens the first one when starting SQL Developer. Additionnal files cannot be opened. Even running sqldeveloper.exe from command line with a SQL file as parameter doesn't help.
I'm on Windows 7, 64 bit, but the environment may not necessarily be the cause.

What does that have to do with SQL Developer?
You can limit the rows a query returns by using ROWNUM
SELECT * FROM myTable where rownum < 11If you just need column info you can describe the table
    SQL> set serveroutput on
    SQL> desc dept
    Name                                      Null?    Type
    DEPTNO                                    NOT NULL NUMBER(2)
    DNAME                                              VARCHAR2(14)
    LOC                                                VARCHAR2(13)
