Five Class Model QoS Design?

Hi all,
I work for a company with a medium-sized network. There are about seven MPLS WAN sites. One of them is a data-center. The rest are sites with mostly users.  The sites are dispersed through-out the continental United States.
Currently, the network is a basic data IP network with no QoS. There are a few projects slated for 2010. One involves implementing VoIP between just two sites. The other project calls for implementing IP-Video-Conferencing between the majority of the sites.
Should I start out with just a five-class model?
        - voice
        - call-signalling
        - IP video-conferencing
        - streaming video
        - default-traffic (all data)
Is there really need to break down the data traffic into QoS classes as well?
As always, thanks an advance for your help.

The answer is  - it depends
Cisco recommend using the full model even if you don't actually use them or allocate bandwidth to them. That way you then don't have to go back and change all your configs if you need to add another class.
Weigh this against where you intend to use QOS primarily ie. on the WAN or LAN or both. The key thing is to talk to your WAN provider to understand what classes they provide ie. how many, how much each class costs etc. If they only provide 5 classes for example you could in theory simply use 5 classes internally and map these to the provider classes.
However there is nothing to stop you using 11 classes internally within your LAN and then mapping multiple internal classes to a single provider WAN class.
The other thing to bear in mind is the applications that make up the company data. Are there a few recognisable critical apps to the business of the company compared to the majority which are not critical. If so it may be worth reserving a class for these apps, even if you don't use it at the moment. If the time comes that the company then needs better performance for these apps you have already provisoned for it (makes you look good !), and you can simply map it to either a new provider class or an existing provider class with increased bandwidth.
It is basically a trade off between complexity of QOS configs and making things easier in the future and a lot depends on the apps that the company runs.

  • Eight-Class Model QoS for voice and video

One of the QoS recomendation in the SRND "Enterprise QoS" is to create a Eight-Class QoS Model utilizing a seperate priority queue for voice and video.
It says that even though you have only one physical priority queue, that LLQ has an implicit policer that allows for time-division multiplexing of the single priority queue. This implicit policer abstract the fact that there is essentially a single LLQ within the algorithm and, thus, allows for the "provisioning" of multiple LLQs.
My question is if anyone has tried this and if there are any limitations on the platforms that can support this "dual-LLQ design."

Design guide which is basically the QoSDesign recommendation bible.
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/solution/esm/qossrnd.pdf
It has a large section for WAN recommendations...while you may not
need to follow one of these Based on my understanding what what you
have for a link (DS3) and what you are trying to accomplish, I
believe the following section would be a good place to start.
    - WAN Aggregator QoS Design
    - WAN Edge Classification and Provisioning Models
    - High Link Speed QoS Class Model
    - Eight-Class Model

  • How to push Process model to design model?

I just learned how to capture business requirements and a logical design using the logical data modeler and process molder to create data flow diagrams, with composite, primitive and transformative processes in SQL Developer 3.0
I know in Oracle Designer we were able to associate entities to business functions and transform the business functions into modules of type PL SQL or screen, etc.... We could create detail design documents from this information in Oracle Designer. In Oracle Designer the modules would be associated to the physical table definitions. However, the data flows in SQL developer are associated to logical entities.
My question is can these objects/items (processes primitive, composite, transformative) be transformed into design items similar to how we transform a business function in Oracle Designer into a modulel?
    Thanks
    Mark
    Mark Kramm

    Hi Mark,
there is no support for applications and modules in Data Modeler.
Design can be exported to reporting repository and there is no limit in how you can utilize these meta data. Column groups and UI defaults can be defined at table and column level - I know some people are generating APEX applications and process model can be very helpful for that.
In Oracle Designer the modules would be associated to the physical table definitions. However, the data flows in SQL developer are associated to logical entities. Each entity can be mapped to unlimited number of implementations in form of tables in relational and physical models. You need to engineer logical model to one or more relational models. There is small wizard appearing in context menu of data flow diagram node in browser - "Transform Process model roles to Physical role". You can create roles in process model and assign them to processes connected to data stores. Then this wizard will create these roles in selected physical model and CRUD settings will be transferred to permissions to select, insert, update and delete for related tables. This is just example that physical model can be reachable from process model.
We'll add more utilization of definitions in process model in future releases.

  • Does Huawei router NE40 support Class-Based QoS?

As I know Class-based QoS defines traffic classifiers based on certain rules and associates traffic classifiers with certain traffic behaviors, forming certain traffic policies. After
these policies are applied to interfaces, class-based traffic policing, traffic shaping, congestion management, and precedence re-marking are implemented.
Does Huawei router NE40 support Class-Based QoS?

The NE80E/40E supports DiffServ and provides standard forwarding services such as EF and AF for users by using the following traffic management measures:
    1 Traffic classification
    2 Traffic policing
    3 Traffic shaping
    4 Congestion avoidance
QoS of the NE80E/40E supports traffic policy with the above measures and mapping between the QoS fields in the IP header and the MPLS header.

  • Not getting Report Model Query Designer in SSRS

I am working on SQL Server reporting Service(SSRS) with Report Builder 3. I successfully connected Data Source with Oracle Server. When I working in Report Builder I did not find Report Model Query Designer. How can I find this?
How can it possible to merge dataset with datasource(database entity) in SSRS?
    Please help me.

    Hi Jewel,
To enable Report Model Query Designer in Report Builder, we need use Report Model as the datasource. Report models can be used as data sources for reports created in Report Designer and Report Builder 3.0.
So in your scenario, you need to create a Report Model project in SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS), and then deploy this report model to report server. Then in Report Builder, you can use this report model as datasource and open
    Report Model Query Designer window.

  • Cisco 3650 QoS design: "mls QoS" not supported

    Dear colleagues,
I am currently testing a Cisco 3650 for various catalogue items. One key feature that we use on almost all our catalogue items, is Quality of Service (QoS).
On the old Cisco 3560 and 3750, we use "mls qos" and related commands. We use numbered ACLs for  untrusted QoS policy that sits on the LAN / ingress port. I have raised a TAC case for this issue but is there a tool to help me convert the "mls QoS" design on the old 3560 platform to the new 3650 platform where "mls qos" is not supported?
    Many thanks.

    Hi,
The new 3650 runs IOS-XE and the older Cisco 3560 and 3750 run IOS.  So the QOS architecture on the new 3650 is different.
here is the link to the qos config for the 3650:

  • Generate Data model from Class model

I am using JDeveloper uml features for a first time, so I am interested if there is a option that I can generate class model to the data model.
If I have class model and than when right-click select Generate , there is a option to generate data model from it.
But it is dimmed. Is there any precondition to achieve before this option become possible.

  • URGENT: QoS Design on Data Center MPLS - MediaNet Question...

    Hello,
I am posting this in hopes I can get some guidance from anyone who has done this in the field.  We have a large enterprise customer with 21 sites all around the world, they have Verizon MPLS and are experiencing QoS related issues on their WAN regarding Video/Voice.  We have proposed remediating their network acccording to the Enterprise QoS SRND 3.3 and the new MediaNet SRND to account for Video and TP QoS (
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/solutions/Enterprise/WAN_and_MAN/QoS_SRND_40/QoSCampus_40.html )
Here is the problem/question that was proposed in our presales meeting and I honestly don't know where to look for an answer... I am not asking for anyone to design a solution for me, just merely point me in the right direction:
The Data Center has a ~40MB MPLS Connection ( full mesh ) into the cloud ( Verizon )
    Site A has a 8MB connection
    Site B has a 4MB connection
I know on the Service policy and the interfaces at SiteA and SiteB I can assign "Bandwidth xxxx" and use ~95% of the bandwidth to do queuing and shaping/policing ect.  I am not concerned with SiteA and SiteB, that I think I can handle...
Question was posed from the customer, "How can we ensure at the DataCenter level the 40MB MPLS is "chopped" up so that only 8MB of the total speed goes to SiteA ALONG with an attached QoS policy designed for that specific site, as well as ensure only 4MB goes to SiteB with an attached QoS policy.
So I am looking for a way to allocate bandwith per site on the DC 40MB connection going into the cloud ( so that SiteB cannot use more than 4MB ) and attach a MediaNet specific QoS Service policy to that site.  The customer does not have seperate MPLS circuits for each site, they all come into the DC on 40MB shared ethernet connection ( no VC, or dedicated circuits to other sites ).
Any thoughts on if this is possible?
    Thanks!
    Alex

This is an example I have seen and I hope that is useful to you.
    Site A
    Subnet: 172.16.1.0/24
    Site B
    Subnet:172.16.2.0/24
    HeadOffice:

    permit ip any 172.16.1.0 0.0.0.255
    ip access-list extended Site_B
    permit ip any 172.16.2.0 0.0.0.255
    class-map match-any Site_A
    match access-group name Site_A
    class-map match-any Site_B
    match access-group name Site_B
    policy-map To_Spokes
    class Site_A
    shape average 8000000
    service-policy Sub_Policy(Optional)
    class Site_B
      shape average 4000000
      service-policy Sub_Policy(Optional)
    class class-default
      shape average 28000000
      service-policy Sub_Policy(Optional)
    Interface G0/0
    Description To MPLS cloud
    bandwidth 40000000
    service-policy output To_Spokes
    interface G0/1
      Description To HeadOffice
    bandwidth 40000000
    service-policy output To_Spokes
It would be greatly appreciated if someone can correct this or improve it as I am still learning.
Please see the netflow graph from one of our routers using a similar policy as above.

  • OBIEE Best Practice Data Model/Repository Design for Objectives/Targets

    Hello World!
We are faced with a design question that has become somewhat difficult and we need some help. We want to be able to compare side-by-side actual measures with their corresponding objectives/targets. Sounds simple. But, our objectives are static (not able to be aggregated) with multi-dimensionality and multi-levels. We need some best practice tips on how to design our data model and repository properly so that we can see the objective/target for a measure regardless of the dimensions that are used in the criteria and regardless of the level.

    - Right now we have quarterly objectives set using 3 different dimensions. So, if an author were to add one or more (or zero) dimensions to their criteria for a given measure they could get back a different objective. They could add Dimension1 and get 99%. They could add Dimension1 and Dimension2 and get 98%. They could add all three dimensions and get 97%. They could add zero dimensions (highest grain) and get 99%. Using our existing structure if we were to add a new dimension to the mix the possible combinations would grow dramatically. (Not flexible)
    - We would like our final solution to be flexible enough so that we could view objectives with altogether different dimensions and possibly get different objectives.
    - We currently have 3 fact tables with 3+ conformed dimension tables and a few unique dimension tables.
Could anyone share a similar situation where you have implemented a data model structure with the proper repository joins to handle showing side-by-side objectives/targets where the objectives were static and could be displayed at differing levels with flexible dimensions as described?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi..yes this suggestion is nice...first configure the sensors(activity or variable) ..then configure the sensor action as a JMS Topic which will in turn insert the data into a DB..Or when u configure the sensor action as a DB..then the data goes to Oracle Reports schema..if there is any chance of altering the DB..i mean if there is any chance by changing config files so that the data doesnt go to that Reports schema and goes to a custom schema created by any User....i dont know if it can b done...my problem is wen i m configuring the jms Topic for sensor actions..i see blank data coming..for sm reason or the other the data is not getting posted ...i have used a esb ..a routing service based on the schema which i am monitoring...can any1 help?

  • Publish data model with designer

    Hi,
so far I used ERwin for data modelling. ERwin can generate HTML output consisting of the graphical data model plus hyperlinks on the tables. If you click on a table a report pops up with all details, e.g. table and column comments.
I find this very useful to publish the data model.
Is there something similar available with Oracle Designer?
I found this announcement, but no product: http://otn.oracle.com/products/designer/pdf/ROB_Announce.pdf
    Best Regards,
    Jens

If you have any recent release of Designer installed, then you have the ROB automatically installed. Select your Start menu in Windows and then navigate through your menus to the Designer sub menu and you'll see a link for setting up the ROB.
The ROB was made available as part of Designer from March 2003. The lastest release of Designer, viz Designer 10g (9.0.4.4) and the equivalent 9i and 6i releases, all now avialable on OTN, have additional support for the ROB. This offers the ability to save and ERD or Server Model Diagram directly to the ROB.
You do need to add the "hotpost" functionality manually. The ROB help gives a step by step apporach on adding these hotspots. There are a number of demos on the Designer demo page on using the ROB and configuring the App Server to use it. http://otn.oracle.com/products/designer/demos.htm
